NBC games of the week are how I became a baseball fan as a kid in the 80's. You mean to tell me the Saturday FS1 games today with John Smoltz or AJ Piercynski or Tom Verducci compare? Not sure I'd even become a fan if I was a kid now.
Growing up in MA, my favorites were Rich Gedman and Wade Boggs. Up until 2004, this season was my favorite Red Sox team. I love the background music during the highlights. As a kid it made the game seem epic. Maybe someone should tell Dick Flavin about Mookie Wilson ahead of time so he can tell McNamara to take Buckner out and put in Dave Stapleton in Game 6 of the Series.
What great commentating!. So smooth, articulate, well-prepared and interesting compared to the current RUclips Game of the Week bunch who ramble, repeat themselves, stutter and stumble around, and make such inane comments.
@@brianfleming9879 Vin Scully. My broadcasting idol. Thanks for posting. Takes me back to my teenage years sitting back and enjoying NBC Game of the Week. Didn't care who was playing. Just loved listening to Vin and Joe do the game.
You probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot my password. I love any help you can give me!
@Boone Sergio Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I was not a Red Sox fan back then but I always liked Jim Rice, Carl Yastrzemski, and Carlton Fisk!!! The Boston games of the week were also great with Joe Garagiola Tony Kubek!!!
Just before Buckners nice play to end the bottom of the 8th he bobbles a ground ball right in front of him. When you watch it he seems to have trouble getting down to field the ground ball. Back trouble?
Still watching and enjoying on SUN Jun 30, 2024 , Marv Albert, Marge Schott , Vince Scully, Joe Garagiola , Earl Weaver, the Orioles 😅, doesn’t get any better than this!! 😅 Plus I now remember why I always hated Dwight Evans 😅.
Little did those Red Sox fans know that their biggest heartbreak moment was coming in a few months….I was 11 during that World Series. Made Bucky Dent HR look like nothing.
Did they ever use DON CRIQUI as part of their MLB "an inside look" coverage? I know Ahmad Rashad and Jimmy Cefelo filled in before. Not to mention Bill Macatee and Gayle Gardner.
@@BookClubDisaster I read that he DID call a few Mets games in the early 90's on WWOR. Probably filling in for Tim McCarver. But I was eluding to Don doing studio work for baseball, I know he did studio for NBC's Soccer World Cup coverage later this year.

I miss the NBC Game of the Week
Join the club. Very few duos can compare to Vin and Joe.

80 s baseball was fun I miss this kind of baseball as a kid Watching NBC sports on Saturday s
@ 2:34:50 “Boy, he ran over to 3rd like Festus on Gunsmoke.” - Vin Scully on Bill Buckner. LOLOL!
“like Chester”
Love the reference to Ripken’s consecutive inning streak … Little did they know …
Just love the opening theme. So nostalgic.

Yea- Vin was a legend ... tough for anyone to meet those standards

Marge Schotts the Racheal Phelps of Baseball 😂, thanks for this!!
24-4 in 86
After arm surgery!
Vin Scully @51:04 - “Boy! What a year this could be for Boston”. Lol, if they only knew…
This Red Sox team looks pretty good, it looks like they could win the World Series.
If they can just avoid wild pitches and balls going through the 1st basemen's glove they just might hoist the World Series trophy!
i thought they did
25:08 not a good call
"It's a full house here at Fenway on a crackling day in Boston..."
Love Vin Scully!
The two greatest baseball voices ever were Joe Garagiola and Tony Kubek.
Agreed. Kubek was the finest analyst I have ever heard.
Vin Scully and Jack Buck were the voices of baseball.

RIP Vin Scully!
Thank you for posting this. Do you have any other NBC games of the week from 1986?
I don't but there's a ton on RUclips:

Geez, is Clemons throwing all Vaseline Balls or what? 😝
Saucy
The Yankees in the 1980s were just God awful
26 - 11 is so awful 😃
They won more games in the 80s than anyone else in the AL East. Hard to believe but true.
@@whyimsmarterthanyou they actually won more games than ALL the other teams in the 80s.
1990 Yankees: Am I a joke to you?
Except they weren't. And I'm a Red Sox fan.
