Chimera Death Spiral

- Determined the most likely cause to be a damaged antenna on the radio. At the time, I had been using the stock whip antenna that comes with Rangelink, but attached to the OpenLRSng (Hawkeye / DTFUHF) transmitter. My measurements later indicated that the SWR = 9.0! That means more than 500mW of the 800mW total transmitted power was being reflected back into the module. I had been flying with this antenna for a few months, so I'm surprised the transmitter lasted as long as it did. Needless to say, that antenna promptly went in the trash.
The antenna was probably damaged by closing the lid of the Taranis case and pinching the antenna.
I've since repaired and reinforced the Chimera and it is flying once again.
awesome vid. I hate that feeling in my gut..watching it crash. So helpless.. glad to hear you had DVR. Beauty place to fly!
best quote
"what is going on?"
"I'm Crashing!"
Did it survive?
Ow. That sucks. Similar to what happened to my Gladiator XL a while back. The failsafe on the Hawkeye DTF/UHF receivers doesn't like to stay set. I've gotten into the habit of checking every flight.
GawainReif I'll be rebuilding it with my trusty Rangelink
Awww man! No good! ._. Damage report?
Damage Report?
Oooooof! Looks like link slowly degraded before it said goodnight. Repaired?
+SYN FPV yes, repaired, reinforced, and is flying again. Determined the most likely cause to be a damaged antenna (SWR=9) on the OpenLRSng transmitter which would've reflected more than half of the 800mW back into the module. I had been flying like this for a couple of months, so I'm surprised it took this long to give up the ghost.
Thanks for commenting, that reminded me to go back and add this info to the description.
Why didn't it jump in RTH on loss of signal?!
my failsafe settings were incorrect or not set.
secretspy711 SEE.. what if this had happened whilst u were buzzing that mans house fuckhead
+GunsOfPlentyNZ you're an idiot
+secretspy711 rather then just calling me an idiot, could you add some justification?
+GunsOfPlentyNZ I'm tired of doing that, perhaps you could read the dozens (hundreds?) of other replies I've posted to everyone else that has said the same thing that you did, almost verbatim.
Ouch. It's an unfortunate reality of the hobby.
It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Sometimes the air just plays dirty.
Any reason as to why?
trying to figure that out! I don't know yet.
im sorry man.
:/
Hope you find and kill that gremlin
Whirl that bird...
ouch
What's your setup?
DTF UHF control with the 9 channel hawkeye receiver. FC is a Flip32 running baseflight in fixed-wing mode. Most probable causes at this point are a loose PPM cable at the FC, or RX power failure, again probably via a loose connector because it still works.
+secretspy711 Hey, I'm having SBA build me a custom Chimera and I've got it set up with EZ UHF. I was wondering why you chose DTF UHF? Just curious is all. I live up in Loveland and hopefully some day I can fly with you guys. and BTW.....GunsofPlentyNZ needs to get a life. Just sayin.....
+Brian Rodda Hey Brian, I chose DTF at the time because it was cheap, open source, and had a beacon feature. I've s ince stopped using it though, because the constant updates drive me a bit crazy, and others have had issues with it (such as, it forgets failsafe values sometimes). I use my trusty ol Rangelink now.
