      I think he could be a very important player for the national team.......He would perfectly complete England's 4-3-3 alongside Rice and Bellingham. He would compliment Dec and Jude perfectly. England are rather thin for through and through number 8's......because the other players to fulfill the number eight roles after Bellingham are Connor Gallagher, Ward prowse, an aging Henderson, or an inconsistent Mason mount. No disrespect meant to these other players, but I've always though Curtis was a level above them, particularly with his skill on the ball. Southgate actually has mentioned Jones in the past couple years as a player on his radar, even before he received a lot of plaudits for the end of last season/u21 Euros, so I'm sure he's close to the squad. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Jones for the England national team, Pythagoras.

    Rated him since his debut season. Technically great and very press resistant. His issue was he was an attacking mid who deliberated on the ball too long, but Klopp’s even said his speed of decision making has improved him a lot. We were converting him into a Wijnaldum role, and he’s become very good at it whereas before his tendency was to hold the ball too long and hinder our transitions. He’s actually very good in a more creative, attacking role (as we saw when MOTM against Porto), but that’s just not how he’s been used in the system.
    Outside of LFC, Rangnick admitted he wanted Jones at RB Leipzig but Klopp insisted he was not open to a loan (about 3-4 years ago). Said he’s a big talent but that as he’s playing for his boyhood club, he didn’t want to leave.
    People like Rio Ferdinand talk about being around coaches from the England U21 setup said years back that Jones was the most talented player. Teammates have suggested the same, and I absolutely believe that he is.
    A bottom level of 66 still underrates him. Imo, it’s more like 69-73.

    Low-key he's becoming an absolute baller, I think he's transformed as a player over the last 12 months or so, and the team looks a lot better with him. His decision making has improved a lot (klopp's words) with the ball and he's an absolute pressing monster.

    The best thing about him is his ability to implement what Klopp wants him to do . Last season, towards the end , with heavy legged midfielders , Jones was the one providing dynamism for LFC in the middle now with Dom n Alexis , he's playing the LCM with so much awareness and discipline .
    Him covering and getting in there to help Robbo has been superb .

In my opinion, i think Jones is perfect definition of jack of all trades and master of none, he's one of the most versatile midfielders in PL and maybe in the world but he doesn't have that outstanding attribute that makes a specialist in a specific position, i hope he becomes something because he looks like he has alot of things going on with him that it will be sad to see all that talent being wasted.

      Jones knows how to use his body well. Where I had complaints in the past was his overall energy level was not high enough to be a great Klopp midfielder. He could be beaten when fatigue caused little let ups. Last season, he came back from injury more energetic than ever. And Klopp has been using him carefully, usually subbing him after 70-75 minutes so he comes off the pitch feeling strong. Only very recently has he been completing full games, again, and he looks good.

    I knew he'd have world class potential, but he almost got to generational.
    I always critiqued him for his lack of consistency, and his poor and slow decision making. Happy you touched upon it. His dribbling is one of his best attributes.
    His decision making has improved a bit, but I would like to see more consistency from him.

    I really like Jones, have admired him ever since I saw him in playing in the LFC youth sides, I appreciate his confidence, skill and work ethic! That said, from what I've seen I'm jot sure he'll ever be a 1st choice starter for a top team like Liverpool, I see him having more of a James Milner career as a hardworking, reliable and deceptively skillful player who adds real strength and depth to our squad and probably plays every game in the domestic cups.
    Having said all that, I hadn't realised how young he still was. 22 is pretty young still and while he's definitely behind in development compared to others his sort age who've had more game time (Foden for instance) he still has tome to make the step up and become a star if he puts the work in.

  • @maghulled
    @maghulled 8 месяцев назад +6

    He’s performing the gini wijnaldum duties in the team. This is why some of his stats are low. Gini was bottom of nearly every metric but was a vital cog in the machine doing the things that get very little attention or recognition and fit Curtis I think this is the best thing for him to play at an elite level. As a youngster he was the star of the team playing at one of the main attackers but he’s not of the elite level like foden. As a midfield facilitator though he can be a top top player

      @ComradeOgilvy1984 8 месяцев назад +1

      Good insights.
      It took almost two years for Wijnaldum to blossom into the reliable engine we remember so fondly. The hard part about tuning into Klopp's system is not about attacking -- Gini was always a creative and offensive beast for Netherlands. It means understanding when and how to not lose the ball. It means anticipating the danger and knowing when to press.

    • @PythagorasinBoots
      @PythagorasinBoots  8 месяцев назад +1

      That was clearly in reference to his previous use by Klopp. As in there was a rawness to his game and Klopp as spoken about how recently they worked with Jones to sharpen up his use of the ball and speed up his decision making hence he’s playing more regularly at the moment. In conclusion we said we hope Klopp keeps using him and that way he can realise his potential rather than stagnate again.

    • @kieranb4224
      @kieranb4224 8 месяцев назад

      @@PythagorasinBoots He was been ravaged with injuries the last few years, growing pains and shin splints, it's kept him out of training sessions and games which has kept him very frustrated according to Klopp, he wanted to train he would feel ok but the medical team would advise against it or simply not allow him to train.
      At the very worst he's a good squad player but this guy has potential who knows how far it will take him. I've liked Jones ever since he was 18 and scored top bins outside the box vs Everton to win the cup game, injuries have curtailed his development somewhat hopefully he can leave those behind him and have the urgency and fight to be a Liverpool 1st teamer, the time is now to kick on.
      He has all the attributes needed to become a very good player in the middle of the park. Left center mid is his best position but to be honest he could play anywhere in midfield if needed.

    Agree with all the analysis of him as a player. Pretty much all spot on. Was just unsure about the commentary at the end about his game time. Think he's actually grown into one of Klopp's most trusted players, and him cementing a place in this squad has been huge for Liverpool's upturn in form. A loan now would be a huge step backwards.

    • @PythagorasinBoots

    He is a totally different player nowadays. He used to be a tricky attack minded winger who was too slow to decide what to do with the ball & would massively slow down transitions & lose advantages. Now he is a number 8 who is press resistant & recycles possession. He still holds the ball but because he plays further back its actually an advantage. He has a fox in the box mentality which he didn’t have before, he gets in the right positions to score easy goals, instead of the 25 yard coutinho style wonder goals earlier in his career.

    If Salah does leave, Curtis Jones can be tried as a slow RW, similar to Kulusevski to make use of his dribbling and crossing. He can interchange position with Szob create a deadly combo on that side. His work rate can cover for Trent as well. However, Klopp like his winger to be fast. I will not be surprised if he buy neto or just put Szob on the wing.

      Time it takes to get the shot off. If you look at how his leg goes back before striking and then after the shot is made the follow through - it is very expansive which allows great power but if you do that for all your shots, it means it takes a lot of time to complete the whole motion. The best ball strikers can mix it up and know when to take a smaller motion to get shots off quickly.

    The players you compare to are just too good which deflates all his stats. I'm not saying he's world class, but he's definitely a working progress who just needs a consistent run of matches.

    Come on, man, he’s been in the Liverpool first XI for about 20 games now, ever since he got fit at the end of last year. It’s only injuries that have stopped him playing. The idea he should be on loan to get game time is laughable.

      Because Richarlison his direct opponent got an assist, and almost got another with the offside call and he bodies Gomez on to the floor during a 1 v 1. I thought Gomez was pretty useful going and it wasn't an awful performance but as a RB, if my LW opponent gets an assist - I am going to be gutted.@@CodPatrol

      @@connorc.Dont get me wrong im not disrespecting him. Being an average player doesnt mean bad. However if u look at henderson will people call him among the best midfielder in epl?nope right. He will always be a liverpool legend but as a player he will never be among the best in europe. Thats why i said Jones&henderson are a good fit in Klopp system but an average as a player in epl.
