I love how you get to show the places where he is lacking compared to other prem players. He is a golden boy no doubt but most threads I have read on Mainoo tend to focus only on the strengths. Finally something to dial down the hype a bit.
He’s 19, is he expected to be the finished article? It goes without saying he would have things to improve on, but most of us don’t crave negativity and have unrealistic expectations when it comes to a 19 yr old at the beginning of his career. He deserves the hype.
As an arsenal fan I have to say Mainoo from the small amount of games ive seen him in has a high footballing IQ for this age and will no doubt be a baller as a 8 going forward . He has great ball carrying and passing ability and he can dictate dictate the tempo of the game knows when to slow things down and retain the ball or go forward and creates scoring chances for his teammates. He has great vision and fairly precise distribution. On a defensive contributions level he is timely with interceptions and tackles. His adaptability to different positions is also on a ridiculous level and has bags of agility in tight half spaces as well as amazing composure for this age. I cant see him failing at united he seems to be getting better and better in every game I see him in and doesn't shy away in difficult games and big games . United just need a certified 6 really like Amadou Onana which I hope arsenal can get.
Spot on. I love mainoo, being a united fan my self, but his explosiveness needs work. He should focus on his athleticism and he would be a staple in united. The media are also not helping things tbf.
Not wrong but easy to forget he’s only 18. Sooo much room to grow. IMO I don’t think he’s overhyped by media he really got thrown into a crap United side and at 18 has showed great composure/potential
Mainoo dominates so many "explosive " midfielders. He uses intelligence nd brains, th opponents need energy. What he needs is an all out DM besides him like xavi nd imiesta had busquets along..in the FA Cup final wen Amrabat was just there to destroy the Man city attacks.. Mainoo looked dangerous with all the freedom to create and score
He can definitely play the De Jong role alongside a ball winning midfielder. Personally, that's his best role. He's gonna be our tempo setter not the main creator.
Been waiting for this one! I think the main reason why he's not the best yet at progressive passes as others is due to the fact that MU lacks technical players to open up, receive and hold the ball, most of the time they hold possession for 5-10 max minutes then struggle to get the ball out of opposition team, can't even have 60% possession against teams like Fulham, Everton. Of course I'm not saying he's capable to compete with players like Rodri, De Jong yet, he's too young but he got potential to surpass them if he keeps improving, very talented player.
I dislike such comments by Ten Hag about trying to pace the kid to exert himself harder. He shouldn't try to make him a work horse at 18; let him grow to become one of the greats. I hope INEOS will steer Mainoo in the right direction so we can watch his amazing potential and let him develop into a true elite at his own pace (and he is already at an incredible level considering his age). Instead of trying to make him immediately be more, we should just be happy that we already have a player who can already contribute so consistently and at such a level. And as such, I disagree with comments like he should try to cement his identity on the pitch when, to me, it looks like there's still plenty more natural growth to be done. A Danish saying says, When you tighten the string, you strangle the child. Regardless, thank you yet again for a very intelligent and well-delivered analysis. I look forward to more!
Agreed like at 18 he is already doing a great job especially in current circumstances. Literally keeping Eriksen and Amrabat even Mctominay out of the team. Other parts of his game will come with time. Fans are so impatient
Great video. Mainoo is probably the most intelligent 18 year old I've ever seen. His technique, strength, and tackling added to that makes him a great talent. My biggest problem with him currently is his completely lack of defensive awareness. Being a United fan, we've conceded a few goals from him letting players run past him too easily. I never blame him for it as he's 18 and he's just come from playing a more advanced role in the academy, so I put it down to inexperience, but it is a massive negative to his game. I think his long shots will improve with time. Pirlo never had the most power but was unbelievably good from range. His accuracy and technique was just such perfection that he could pass the ball into the corners from anywhere he was on the pitch. Granted, he still had a lot more power than Mainoo does, and Mainoo will never be THAT good from range, but with enough practice, I do think he has the technique to be solid from range without needing too much power. I agree fully with the point about him potentially struggling to find his best position. If he was to play as a proper DM, I think he'd need to be coming in as a backup to someone more defensively capable, rather than starting already. He's definitely not a 10 either. I think he'd be best in a double pivot as the more advanced of the two, or as an 8. Hopefully he finds a better midfield partner than Casemiro, who doesn't cover for him very well imo, and he can keep improving. I'm excited to see how his future goes.

Absolutely good analysis. As much as I love this boy, I see the problem of his atletisme and pace. But all that he has time to work on it and hopefully he will fulfill his potential cause it’s huge
Just seeing all these clips makes me so excited for him. Doing all this at the senior level at 18. Imagine how good he will be in even as short as 2 seasons. And won't cost the club anything.
Agree with everything you said. If he improves physically your looking at 80+ caps for England. Hopefully under new ownership we can develop him in that regard as it’s something United have struggled with for years
great analysis. i think he's definitely not exactly rodri level yet but he's such an impactful player at just 18. honestly if he develops well and plays his cards right he could become better than scholes. quit low chance obviously and all it really is, is potential. great player at just 18.
Just come back to this after seeing him perform so brilliantly in all his games. Made me realise, why aren’t there many players who have that La Pausa like him. It’s such a rare but brilliant trait to have
I really like your analysis. Always grounded. Unlike these other youtubers who always think players are either perfect or trash. I think Mainoo’s main strength is his footballing iq. Everything a footballer does starts from the mind. He rarely gives the ball away because he has awareness, and already knows what to do BEFORE he gets the ball. This strength is also hard to teach. Look at garnacho and rashford. Doesnt seem like they will ever develop respectable iq. But mainoo has it at such a young age. Many other things can be taught/developed. Brains a but harder. He will be solid/world class in 3-5 years. Hopefully he keeps getting his game time.
He’s 18, and played 15 first team games. It take a season at least to build first team endurance, recovery sprints and maintaining strength for a 90. Look at Garnacho, used to die after 60 mins, now he plays 2 90s a week pressing constantly
Great analysis as always, I really love your content ! Also I think it would be nice if you did more videos on players outside the Premier League, like Xavi Simons, Warren Zaïre-Emery or Florian Wirtz, as they all are immense talents that would be really interesting to analyse. Anyways keep up the great work !
@@PythagorasinBoots Oh ok that makes sense, it's sad to hear but I'm actually not even surprised, copyrights are slowly killing football... Hope you will at least be able to continue your videos on Premier League, because all these regulations are really not evolving in a good way 🙏
Great analysis as always. I have to question how you justify the conclusions, especially about his long-term prospects, based on being a 19-year old after his first season of first-team football. It seems like an undue level of scrutiny for someone who still has 2-3 years of physical growth to come.
Spot on! Glad you didn't just focus on the stats as the way we play is shocking under ETH and this is a guy that won't suit our current play style. On the eye he has everything in tight positions, very much an eye test player right now. I noticed his lack of athleticism very early and questioned if him and Casemiro would work, and it's proven that with Casemiro's legs looking like they've gone, the 2 of them can struggle when covering large distances. When you add that to the tactics ETH uses, the two of them struggle even more and this makes the Mainoo stats look very average in certain aspects and when watching him he can get exposed.
I love Mainoo, but Seedorf like a few Dutch players, is very unique. Seedorf wasnt a pure 10, neither was he a DM. But he had all the attributes you'd want in a midfielder bar height. Jack of all trades, master of most. Mainoo has a some way to go before he gets even near Seedorf's level. But at the very least bar some mishaps, he looks well on track to be a great player.
So greatful and relieved to see the old style stats graphic back, perfectly implemented with the new graphics this time round. Night and day difference from the first video. Perfectly refined 👌 Mainoo seems to remind me of Caicedo more than anyone else funnily Enough but with much better football IQ. Could be that moussa Dembele/Wijnaldum type player (- aireal ability?) if he doesn't become a master of one trade with his main skill being his press resistance. Lets see how he develops physically over the years as this will have the biggest say imo.
Caicedo could only dream to have a part of Mainoo's technical skills on the ball, everytime I watch Caicedo in Chelsea, he's struggle to even have a decent first touch
My recommendation of tiers of players for the scouts reports: 73-75: Average-Mid 76-78: Above the average 79-81: Good 82-84: Has something special 85-87: UCl class 88-91: World class/Generational 92-93: Intergenerational 94+: Goat
The good thing is that he is just 18years and he also has a lot to learn i believe he is going to be great but he will have to grow gradually . All the way to the top 🎩 my brother 🎉
Great analysis! I think Miley is being overlooked possibly based on the team and his less eye catching style. He's more established than Mainoo at the moment and Id argue better stylistically for Southgate-ball. I think he deserves a break down and player analysis,
from what ive seen hes been more consistent and involved in games than Mainoo. Its partly due to his physicality and partly to do with the system. From what I understand hes more of a 6 but filling in as an 8. He was their best player in pre season too.@@nananou1687
Hey just wanted to say I love your videos very insightful even though I don’t always agree on your takes they are so well made and make interesting to watch keep it up
His 1st touch, lovely lay off passing and ability to dribble in tight spaces...all remind me of Zidane. Obviously Mainoo doesnt have Zildane's other skills...but in those 3 areas he is already top class.
i think the problem mainoo is facing currently is that kobbie space is being occupied by casemiro. mainoo best trait is him getting on the ball and growing into the game but with casemiro being back casemiro himself likes to also sit between the two cb's so it leaves mainoo kinda in a no mans land. and much as i see mainoo as a 8 he's more of a 6 or a deep playmaking 8
I like the ethos of this video a LOT. 👍👍 However - and this has nothing to do with the video -, if we are talking numbers, then as any decent statistician will know it only truly makes sense if there are plenty of samples. Else the margin of error is just too high. And bluntly put Mainoo just hasn't played enough games to warrant a sensible comparison. Watch this space and come back in at least year I say.
Yea I agree with all the praise of your analysis. I've watched a bunch of your videos and never hear you say something that makes me think I'M crazy lol
looks a good player, i get why utd are excited about producing youth players again. hopefully he's sponging the best bits from the older guys around him, and he grows into his body and becomes more dominant. reminds me a bit of milner, and i think the comment about finding his best position makes a lot of sense. the problem is, united really struggle to develop players, so it's going to be tough.
I see a lot of praise about this analysis. And I totally get a lot of it. But I for sure think Mainoo has debunked the “lack of explosiveness and can’t take on players at men’s level” killed both Liverpool and Belgium with his running with the ball. The way he turns and explodes out of tight spaces is immense!
Hi Jan, we didn't say he can't beat a man. Watch the dribbling section more closely. We said his dribbling suits players coming on to him and him breaking lines from deeper/central but not so much in final third time and time again. Secondly we said its about quantity of ball carry. So someone like young Cristiano could time and time again go on lung busting dribbles whereas Mainoo has to pick and choose when to beat a man. Thirdly we said with age this might change and is hard to predict, next 4-5 years will show us what his physical level will truly look like and we aren't in a position to accurately gauge that - but we do not see him as athletically matching a Seedorf (but technically/IQ wise he could).
@@PythagorasinBoots Just because he's being played in a deeper role. We've seen games lately where hes drifting into the final third and beating a couple people and laying the ball off. He has the ability to dribble in all phases of the pitch.
As people watch this I hope they keep in mind that this boy is only 18 lol coz he looks so good he can only be compared to the good and more established players like the ones mentioned in comparison statistically here, he will develop most if not all those attributes hes still not yet developed, we are genuinely witnessing a special talent and his ceiling is so so high
While I might appreciate your keen analysis, the lad is developing his game everytime. Bringing up his under18 days games to talk about his present doesn't follow. I'm not one to hype players but I wouldn't encourage downplaying anyone either. Comparing him with players who're very much older than he is and have more senior team experience doesn't follow. This is his first team experience but he's played better than many of the senior players in the midfield. Let him develop further before bringing up such comparisons. 🙌🏾
Struggling to follow any of these complaints when to predict a players future, it makes sense to see what things they have been capable of at youth level - some will translate to mens game and some will not. Likewise he is playing against senior players all the time, so it makes sense to see where he is already matching them, where he has scope to grow and what might remain a long term weakness.
He is growing taller and stronger and once he gets his Seedorf size and gets more pace,he will be elite! Advantages for him is he is in a big, stable club and will grow with no pressure and proper guidance! He has a very high ceiling but needs to have his game time managed at club level to prevent burn out or injuries!
When I watch him he reminds me of Clarence Seerdof and Moises Caicedo. He has a really good base, a natural feel for the game, some Casemiro-like nous and good arrogrance. He's fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game, offensively and defensively. He has a lot to improve upon but he's preternaturally talented like Pedri. That said, if he played for Klopp or De Zerbi he'd be much better and with a higher ceiling.
all the points made in this video were amplified by his performance after the FA cup game. It's like he's never afraid to lose the ball and he has the composure, the reflexes and technicality to back that "arrogance" up. And he's only 18. Generational prospect.
I would play Kobbie as the Martin Ordigard in Arsenal. I think he could be a great number 10 in a possession based team because of his control and ability to keep the ball
@ 3:50 I disagree with him playing a deeper role, considering he is 18, he still has a decent amount of physical developing to do, he’s only just landed in the men’s game. If i were coaching him i’d have him further up the field and put two dogs behind him as cover, this way he can focus on the technical side of things, the physicality will come overtime naturally, and even if it doesn’t, his composure, technique and reading of the game will make up for it. Hyper-focusing on physicality is what always holds back English talent on the world stage.

@@PythagorasinBoots Gernacho next please.
Agree with everything you said. If he improves physically your looking at 80+ caps for England. Hopefully under new ownership we can develop him in that regard as it’s something United have struggled with for years
Let’s hope so
great analysis. i think he's definitely not exactly rodri level yet but he's such an impactful player at just 18. honestly if he develops well and plays his cards right he could become better than scholes. quit low chance obviously and all it really is, is potential. great player at just 18.
i think he needs to work on his shot power and placement (two things that made scholes incrediblE) and he could be golden.
@@LowwwZ But we already know Kobbie can tackle, so he's already ahead of Scholesy in some respect ;-)
Woah better than Scholes? That's something to certainly aspire to. Let's see because growing up Scholes was something special.
These videos are getting much better 👍🏽
Appreciate that
Impeccable analysis I love your videos so much for years man keep them coming PLEASE YOU MAKE ME BETTER AT FOOTBALL
Thanks! Will do!
I think it's an age thing in regards to him being dominant as ETH wants from him. He's feeling his way.
Just come back to this after seeing him perform so brilliantly in all his games. Made me realise, why aren’t there many players who have that La Pausa like him. It’s such a rare but brilliant trait to have
Excellent analysis. It’s exactly what both doubters and the overly enthusiastic need to hear.
Hopefully he keeps getting his game time.
his composure and calmness on the ball has impressed me a lot.
He’s 18, and played 15 first team games. It take a season at least to build first team endurance, recovery sprints and maintaining strength for a 90. Look at Garnacho, used to die after 60 mins, now he plays 2 90s a week pressing constantly
Correct. Hence we have to see how his body reacts to more games
Thanks for mixing the old simple stats with the new one as you told me in the last vid incredible video as usual ❤❤
No worries 😉
@@PythagorasinBoots ❤️❤️
Wow, first time I've seen your analysis, and was really impressed! Thank you
@@DJCoachCookie68 appreciate it mate
now do this again after his performance against liverpool. he is just awesome man
Great analysis as always, I really love your content !
Also I think it would be nice if you did more videos on players outside the Premier League, like Xavi Simons, Warren Zaïre-Emery or Florian Wirtz, as they all are immense talents that would be really interesting to analyse.
Anyways keep up the great work !
We would do more if we weren’t getting copyrighted. Zaire Emery is on our patreon
@@PythagorasinBoots Oh ok that makes sense, it's sad to hear but I'm actually not even surprised, copyrights are slowly killing football... Hope you will at least be able to continue your videos on Premier League, because all these regulations are really not evolving in a good way 🙏
Elite, world level player analysis as usual.
way much better than the last video... at lot more balanced with all the new graphs and illustrations.
imagine this guy in 10 years he be 28 in hes prime with 10 years of top tier football experience scary.
The one we have all been waiting for!
Great analysis as always. I have to question how you justify the conclusions, especially about his long-term prospects, based on being a 19-year old after his first season of first-team football. It seems like an undue level of scrutiny for someone who still has 2-3 years of physical growth to come.
As we said in conclusion- this one was especially hard to call and will probably merit another vid once he’s 22-23 to see how he fills out
Well done, I totally agree.
Thanks
Kobbie Mainoo is a LCM. Please analyze his performance in this role. In that role, he’s a fish in water.
Been waiting on your breakdown of Koobie
Love the new production value! Graphics look great
Much appreciated!
You should do retro analysis’s of players that are established now for example you could do one of like neymar at santos I think that would be sick
Yh you should young neymar especially would be really interesting
Good shout
I love Mainoo, but Seedorf like a few Dutch players, is very unique. Seedorf wasnt a pure 10, neither was he a DM. But he had all the attributes you'd want in a midfielder bar height. Jack of all trades, master of most. Mainoo has a some way to go before he gets even near Seedorf's level. But at the very least bar some mishaps, he looks well on track to be a great player.
Good summary agree with all of it
Mainoo is better on the ball than sedoorf was at his age
Let's stop with this at this age thing. It's what he is like 10 years from now.
Congrats on 100k subs!
Thanks bud!
So greatful and relieved to see the old style stats graphic back, perfectly implemented with the new graphics this time round. Night and day difference from the first video. Perfectly refined 👌
Mainoo seems to remind me of Caicedo more than anyone else funnily Enough but with much better football IQ.
My recommendation of tiers of players for the scouts reports:
73-75: Average-Mid
76-78: Above the average
79-81: Good
82-84: Has something special
85-87: UCl class
88-91: World class/Generational
92-93: Intergenerational
94+: Goat
the whap whap intro keeps surprising me everytime lol 🇯🇲🇯🇲
In love with Boy❤ We've got a Gem.. We have to put his release clause up to 1B
Great video man! You should do Viktor Gyökeres next.
We will do this on patreon
The good thing is that he is just 18years and he also has a lot to learn i believe he is going to be great but he will have to grow gradually . All the way to the top 🎩 my brother 🎉
As a united fan, Get my boy MAINOO some help. He is gunna be great when we can actually control the possession in our favor.
Definitely
Great analysis!
I think Miley is being overlooked possibly based on the team and his less eye catching style. He's more established than Mainoo at the moment and Id argue better stylistically for Southgate-ball.
I think he deserves a break down and player analysis,
Will add to the list - great shout
Less eye catchy does not mean better. Miley is not as composed. He is better physically though
from what ive seen hes been more consistent and involved in games than Mainoo. Its partly due to his physicality and partly to do with the system.
From what I understand hes more of a 6 but filling in as an 8. He was their best player in pre season too.@@nananou1687
Your outro music hahah love it, cannot understand it for the life of me
Lol
Despair for Guardiola, Joy for Mourinho!
Banger incoming
Cant wait to see him in Euro's 24 final. His rise is ridiculous only 32 senior club appearances. Now in Euros final , player!!!
Would love to see an updated video on Saka
Will do
@@PythagorasinBoots thanks
Hey just wanted to say I love your videos very insightful even though I don’t always agree on your takes they are so well made and make interesting to watch keep it up
His 1st touch, lovely lay off passing and ability to dribble in tight spaces...all remind me of Zidane.
Obviously Mainoo doesnt have Zildane's other skills...but in those 3 areas he is already top class.
Really good work as always, try doing Gyokeres next
i think the problem mainoo is facing currently is that kobbie space is being occupied by casemiro. mainoo best trait is him getting on the ball and growing into the game but with casemiro being back casemiro himself likes to also sit between the two cb's so it leaves mainoo kinda in a no mans land. and much as i see mainoo as a 8 he's more of a 6 or a deep playmaking 8
I like the ethos of this video a LOT.
👍👍
However - and this has nothing to do with the video -, if we are talking numbers, then as any decent statistician will know it only truly makes sense if there are plenty of samples. Else the margin of error is just too high.
And bluntly put Mainoo just hasn't played enough games to warrant a sensible comparison.
Watch this space and come back in at least year I say.
Great analysis. Would you be able to do one on who should start in England's midfield?
Especially on Ross Barkley
Will do mate
Yea I agree with all the praise of your analysis. I've watched a bunch of your videos and never hear you say something that makes me think I'M crazy lol
I think it’s time for a Cole Palmer update video
looks a good player, i get why utd are excited about producing youth players again. hopefully he's sponging the best bits from the older guys around him, and he grows into his body and becomes more dominant. reminds me a bit of milner, and i think the comment about finding his best position makes a lot of sense. the problem is, united really struggle to develop players, so it's going to be tough.
gotta remake this after the euros
When you said Didi my head went WOAH WHAT but when you explained it its not far from it.
It’s just a stylistic comparison
Rice looking after him in the middle for England will be absolutely perfect. This kid could take us up a level
Out here bursting bubbles 😵
Excellent analysis 👏
Excellent analysis as always!
Much appreciated!
"Seedorf regen"
He is growing taller and stronger and once he gets his Seedorf size and gets more pace,he will be elite!
Advantages for him is he is in a big, stable club and will grow with no pressure and proper guidance!
He has a very high ceiling but needs to have his game time managed at club level to prevent burn out or injuries!
I feel like Mainoo is one of those players stats don't do justice. he is so smooth in everything he does. and at only 19 he's only gonna get better.
We need that joao neves!!!
That said, if he played for Klopp or De Zerbi he'd be much better and with a higher ceiling.
not over hyping but i think he will be what we wanted pogba to be
Really good analysis
all the points made in this video were amplified by his performance after the FA cup game.
The fact that he’s being compared alongside the best CM’s in the league all of whom are peak of their careers. Says it all
@ 3:50 I disagree with him playing a deeper role, considering he is 18, he still has a decent amount of physical developing to do, he’s only just landed in the men’s game.
My opinion has arrived 🙏
Really good analysis as usual!!
Glad you think so!
