    Every time I watch [and re-watch] one of these I not only come away having learned the specific items covered, but with a much more comfortable attitude towards finding my own way through the menus/SCP/LV controls. Before I approached all of this with such timidity because I was afraid I'd change something, forget where it was, and never get things back to normal!

    AWESOME information! I bought the M10 mark ii, exchanged it for the M10 mark iii, was disappointed in the lack of options in the M10 mark iii, (massively dumbed down!) and exchanged it for the M10 mark ii again. People should understand how stupid the M10 mark iii is compared to the M10 mark ii before they buy. This is such awesome content, THANK YOU!!!

    THANK YOU so much! Answers many questions that had me stumped, especially the video specification setting while in S or A mode (I'm convinced now that the Movie Camera dial mode [≥8] does not offer complete movie capture control as available in A and S and M). You are the best when it comes to explaining these Olympus cameras. Better, in fact, than the company in regards to finer details.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 лет назад +2

      I knew the part about the video in Live Control would answer your last question! There are some finer details I didn't cover, like you can tap to focus while recording in S-AF, change exposure comp, etc...

      @@RobTrek Just a suggestion related to Sean's (me, too!) request...My main target for improvement is real estate, which I know you are involved in. So, I have ALWAYS had a hard time dealing with outdoor vs indoor video while in A or S or M modes. At present, the best I can do is to shoot 60fps with higher F-stop and low ISO outdoors and 30fps with lower F-stop and high ISO indoors to get some detail but TRY not to have blown out windows. VERY difficult and often unacceptable. Photos, I'm pretty good actually. But video work, not so much.
      It is self evident from your channel, Rob, you are very good with video. Thanks!

    Thanks Rob for the tips. I have been shooting Olympus since the first OMD M5 was released years ago. I just recently sold all my Nikon gear. I have added a M5 MkII to my Olympus gear and have been spending the last few days getting it set up to my liking. So far so good it is a real improvement in so many ways when compared to the original M5. I not totally sure I like the new flippable LCD because it has to be swung out to be able to tilt the screen up and down.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 лет назад

      Yes, I have mixed feelings on the flip out screen too. I prefer tilt screen for photography, flip screen for video. The flip you can do both, so if you do video equally as much, it's better to get it that way.

    thank you for those videos on the E-M10 mk ii as i have a slightly used one on my way. I'm mostly a Lumix (G85+Gx9) user but want to go back to some night and light painting shots the easier way . Excellent as usual.
    FWIW, one gotcha I figured out (by being a wimp and actually looking at the manual) is that the Utility (K) menu Quick Sleep Mode is not accessible if the Release Lag-Time (B menu) is set to Short.
    Also, setting the Release Lag-Time to Short will shorten the battery life.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 лет назад

      Yes, the quick sleep mode is greyed out if Lag-Time is set to short. That's why I did a reset on the camera so that I didn't have any weird settings messing with my tutorial. Thanks!

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 лет назад +1

      I adapt full frame lenses of all sizes. Just be careful of the weight against the lens mount on the camera. It wasn't designed to for that. Use a lens collar or hold the lens so that it is the primary contact point of support.

    Great videos Rob, I own a Om-D E-M10 mark II and your videos are really good! Learn a lot with you. I bought this Olympus because I am a traveller and with this camera, I can take it with three lenses, three batteries and a tripod in a small bag, and the camera itself is quite good. I was scared when I started seeing folks bashing on M43, saying it was dead and useless... I thought I made a mistake and at certain time was considering on buying a Fuji Xpro2, but, cant justify the extra cash... Pen F is gorgeous, is it that much better than the E-M10 or E-M5 ?

    I set F2 to AEL/AFL, as on the Mark IV. Custom Settings A assigns AEL/AFL to Shutter Button halfway for stills. In video, other settings can over-ride this. Done SF in G, again, after Full Reset, Live Control in D. The IV has a more useful selection in Super Control than the II has. The EV button retains highlight detail and color in night stills. I have to press OK for Super Control before I get Live Control. Quick Sleep is a pain. I carry spare batteries. But Thank You!

    Hey Rob watch a lot of your videos and have learned a great deal. You have so many to choose from could you steer me towards the ones on taking sunrise and sunsets pics. I've been thru pretty much all and maybe I'm not set up for them in my settings. I've seen on the scn dial it will show a setting for sunsets but not one for sunrises. I've been using the beach & snow setting which is alright but still not what I think it should be. Again if you could seer me to one of your videos that I can learn from shooting from the hip is to frustrating and getting me nowhere fast.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  3 года назад

      Hi. I don't have any sunset/sunrise videos. Generally sunset/sunrise shots are very high contrast. To overcome the very bright sun vs. harsh shadows, you need to either use a graduated nd filter and/or bracket your exposure to create an hdr. Set your whitebalance to 5000k to keep the warm glow of golden hour. Hope that helps.

    Hi Rob, I have already learned shooting with OMD E M10 mark2 . My question is about star tracking,
    I can not make proper manual focus in pitch dark using my kit lenses. In the other lenses, there is an infinity sign and you can turn the focus ring that, but on Olympus kit lenses I could not manage it. Could you show me the way to focus infinity with kit lenses?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  4 года назад +1

      You have to use your live view screen and set your camera to manual focus. Find the brightest star, magnify to 14x, then manually focus until it's sharp - usually when it looks smallest on the screen. You may need to turn on live view boost. I've done it before. Here is a shot I did with the em10-2 and kit lens just like this: instagram.com/p/BzdLZVFHd04/

    Love your videos I just got the mark 3 so disappointed it doesn't have myset modes or even a way to re map the rec button! Why did they dumb the camera down what should I do? Sell it and get a mark 2? Or a m5-mark2?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 лет назад +1

      The Mark 3 is a very capable camera and I think you should keep it and wait for the EM5-Mark 3. Unless you have a specific workflow that would save you time and/or money with the mysets, I don't see a need to switch. If you can minimize the loss on the Mark 3, then maybe switching to one of the Mark 2's would be okay.

    It shows that you don’t use the image aspect ratio. It doesn’t affect only the JPEG but also the RAW image: in Lightroom the cropped image is shown immediately the way you shot the image. Of course you can reverse the aspect ratio to the default 4:3.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 лет назад

      True. I don't use it much. However, my version of LR shows the thumbnail of the embedded jpg in the raw file only briefly before generating it's own full aspect preview of the raw.

    I dont dare to use the highlight/shadows feature anymore on my EM-10. Tried it only once and immediately some pixels got stuck! Therefore I had to do that special pixel mapping thing-feature in-camera, which did the trick and saved the day for me.

    Hi: watched this video a long time ago, but am reviewing it again. I use a lot of vintage lens on my em10 MarkII so I changed the FN1 button to magnify and the FN2 button to peaking. If I change the FN2 button to Multifunction like in your video and the FN1 button to peaking, will the Magnify function as part of the FN2 button operate the same as when I had the FN1 button set to Magnify ? Thanks and please let me know

      I'd need to know exactly what 50mm you bought. My guess is the OM System 50mm f/1.8 vintage lens. You would need an OM-m4/3 adapter. Be sure you always buy "m4/3 mount" lenses. You may want to consider the Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 lens. It's relatively inexpensive and is a fabulous lens.

That said, I make an effort to read every comment regardless of any perceived tone and take in as much as I can to improve my efforts here. This video was more for experienced users of the Olympus menu system and I should make that more clear in each video.
