  • Prior to the start of the 1983 NFL season, Clarence Weathers, the brother of New England Patriots running back Robert Weathers, was constructing mini golf courses in Florida, and hadn't played tackle football in three years. While visiting his brother, completely out of nowhere, Clarence was offered a contract by the Patriots. What started as a family get-together turned into Clarence getting the opportunity of a lifetime, and seizing the moment in an unbelievable way.

Clarence Weathers was arguably the Browns’ best WR in 1985. He was in and out of the lineup after that. And I remember there being some drama behind the scenes involving Weathers and management or the coaching staff or something. Never could find out anymore details on that though. Great story though.

I just commented on a call that you could argue was a more gutsy call than the flea flicker you showcased (my suggestion was when bill b took a safety late in a game the pats were losing! And ended up winning because of it). In this case you should dig deeper my friend. Consider the case of Bob Gladeaux. He was cut from the Pats. He found himself sitting in the stands as a spectator. His name was called over the PA system. The Pats signed him out of the stands!!!! He played that game! Cool huh?
Well, its in the discussion along with your story....

    1. The only reason why Weathers got a contract was because he showed up in New England. Later that season, tons of cowboy fans got free tickets to a playoff game, just by showing up and claiming them. Official Jaguar Gator 9 made a video about the reason why that was the case.
    2. Contrast that story with the story of Cleveland’s ball boy eating 107.4 crickets for free tickets to a PRESEASON game in 1989. Official Jaguar Gator 9 made a video about that.
