My condolences to the 5 remaining speed-dating pianos who didn't get picked.
If I were rich I'd take all of it.
@@GabsARV I'm saving up for an upright german piano. It's going to take a while...meanwhile back at the ranch I just have my Yamaha keyboard with deep keys that feel horrible for a novice. My tutor has a Baldwin which has really light keys which feels amazing everytime I play it.

@@MICKEYISLOWD may u be blessed with ur dream piano 🙌😇
so playing a c major scale is like shaking hands with a piano you've never met before
Basically yes
@@Johnald26 why is that?
@@Jimmy-rd5ig It's all white keys and they are the first thing you touch on a piano.
hahaha, yes
The way you played C on all the pianos is like a little girl inside a candy store trying all the free samples.

Tiffany has a natural talent of letting us take part in her musical life without ever being boring. I love the way she presents herself and moves around naturally. Plus, she is an excellent pianist and deserves all of the support. Keep doing it, Tiffany!
the way you walk over to each one of the pianos to play a C major scale is just too cute 😂
it seemed like she was greeting each one of them, haha
She's the only one that can make scales look cute haha
Its cute not because she is a professional pianist. its because she is an Asian . HKer. Every morning I see lots of these little cuties in the mtr. (actually some of them are quite tall though). khatia buniatishvili will never play anything that you could call it cute! Sexy may be ! but not cute .
Y'all simps she just playing a basic scale🤦♂️
@@epyonsystem1869 why is everyone a simp now
I’m listening to a professional pianist playing a $109,000 piano on my 9.7” iPad. I can only imaging how that fabulous instrument would sound if I was standing next to it.
I'm listening to this on my $7.50 computer speakers and a desktop computer from 2009
Really that’s the price?
@@UltimateProduction20 yes
@NonyaBusiness! I think they can go way more than 200k, I saw one 2,5million other day, but i'm just a noob in piano matters
@@TheNGuii they do go more than 220k the older one go for more because of selected spruce.
It's like a job interview but instead of people, it's all these babies
Steinway just gave you a piano? Thats
A good friend to have.
And also, you play beautifully. Thank you.
TIffany: I don't know what to play
Also Tiffany: Is a concert pianist
cuz there’s too much to play
Walked passed the Steinway store on 6th Avenue yesterday and immediately thought of your vlogs. I probably wouldn't have paid attention to the store if your vlogs hadn't shown up on my computer. Best of luck with your new companion.
My first job outta high school 15 years ago was moving pianos. Just like those guys at the end. I wanna say, Steinway's were always my favorite to move. They were beautiful pianos, but from a mover's standpoint they were well built and easily disassembled. Some cheap pianos had weird locking mechanisms for the legs with a piece of wood to wedge them in place. Those would wear out a lot and the leg would become loose making it somewhat dangerous when lowering the piano. Steinway's always had bolts for the legs, 2 large bolts to be exact and they never had that problem, even for obviously old Stenway's that show their age.
Correct. I think this is also a Steinway patent. Other grands have large screws to fix the legs, or in the case of old models, the top of the leg is itself an enormous wooden screw. In the first case the screwholes get dilated by time and wear or the screws get lost, second case is even worse when the wooden screw gets damaged: impossible to fix this in a satisfying way.
Interesting! That’s an amazing first job
Is moving a grand piano easier than moving an upright piano? It looks like grand pianos can be disassembled to several pieces.
@@ysk249 Depends really, a baby grand would be easier to move than a full sized player upright. On average though an upright or a console would be easier to move than a grand. Even with the legs and pedals removed the harp in a grand is still very heavy and it's shape is more awkward on the furniture dolly than an upright.
The person at Steinway responsible for finding Tiffany deserves a big raise. She's the perfect spokesperson.
The middle piano on the right was my favourite
Yes, I picked that one from the very first whizz round so it was fascinating to see whether I would be right. Close but Tiffany rules.
Exactly
Mine was the last on the right. It took her much longer than me to arrive at the same conclusion ^^
Mine as well. I liked the warm full sound, but I got the feeling it might almost be too much in her apartment.
I still stay with the middle one on the left, but I wouldnt need stamina in my fingers. I am not even near to a good player ;)
And the most emotional moment is when they carry your piano in! And you realize it's just like you've always had it... I got my first piano when I was 11, and I still have it... Just like a friend of mine! Best wishes!!! (even if more than a month later)

As a guitarist, I understand how little subtleties make all the difference. When most people don't hear a difference, a musician will hear and feel very subtle differences. Some are major, the other are minor. Some instruments are better in one way, and another better in another way. Finding the one that has the best of everything you want is the key. Hope you enjoy it :)
@Maurice what
@@micoramos7234 major minor
Yes, it is a lot more than what reach the eyes.
My local piano showroom has all the Steinways, Yamahas, and Bechsteins. One thing I found is that if the sound doesn't speak to you, it's a no-go no matter the cost.
Kudos to Steinway for having the wisdom to support your career with this collaboration. My B and I have been together for 25 years and I can’t imagine that any piano could be better in a home......unless one had room and ceilings to accommodate a D.
Point taken but there is nothing stopping these other piano makers from investing in these young artists by providing them with instruments. Perhaps they do....
@@jeffaldridge4051 Mr. Aldridge, as a Steinway fan, perhaps you could comment on their investment value and more or less guaranteed appreciation, as per the company and showroom's claims? Thanks,
Carlton Cotter They are a very expensive product and one is buying a beautiful musical instrument. The Steinway B that I bought 20 years ago is now about four times more expensive if you buy it new. In order to really assess the investment value you only need to look on eBay and see Steinway B pianos for five and $6000. So obviously that end of their marketing is far from something you can hang your hat on. An instrument sold second hand is only as good as what someone is willing to pay for it and not what Steinway says the appreciated value is. Having said that, I wouldn’t trade mine for the world and I hope it will pass to my son after I’m gone. The piano is no longer a central part of the American home and we all just have to suck it up and except that. The decrease in values of all pianos is a testimony to this sad fact. Stay healthy!
@@jeffaldridge4051 Yes, I know. I dreamed of owning a Steinway since I was a kid wandering around the old Steinway building on 57th Street on the weekends. Circa 2000 I finally bought one and considered it my single most prized possession. I justified the purchase after listening to Steinway's thoroughly rehearsed trade-in vs. a new one pitch, and the notion that the MSRP of their pianos has gone up like the S&P 500 since the great depression. But just to be extra safe, I bought a perfectly restored M for about half of the $65 K Steinway was asking at the time. Well a perfectly lovely piano yes, but it promptly depreciated like a stone when only a few years later when I decided to move. You say "that end of their marketing" ? Perhaps by NYC standards but within the context of a civilized transaction, I would say it's more like lying and misrepresentation. Porsche doesn't point to the value of a 1972 911 RS before selling you an off lease Cayenne and then after it promptly loses 80% of its value tell you that the world has moved to electric cars and we all just have to "suck it up". Again, a perfectly good piano, but c'mon?! They have a lot reforms to make in their leadership and integrity which I hope they do because they are lucky to have fans like Ms. Poon stand behind their product, as I also said.
Carlton Cotter Yup! Spot on! This is certainly true for any “investment”. I think it’s part of our culture of reassuring you that an expensive purchase is justifiable because you can always sell something. Just as in buying paintings, you buy it because you want it and love it not because you think someone will give you your money back. Sales peopleOf course are quite differently motivated.😉
My thanks on you showing this. I had no idea how difficult the selecting was done and the many variations that went into choosing the perfect piano. My ear chose one of the last two you compared, yet you selected the other. I was close. So until I get the chance, I know how it’s done. Enjoy your Steinway and, Go Play!
I have been a drummer since my high school days and now at 73 years of age I sit 17 minutes and watch a beautiful young woman get aquainted with the top of the line grand pianos and choose the one that was made just for her in what feels like a ZEN trance! Thank you for letting us in on such an intimate moment. I remember when after some decades I got my vintage Ludwig Chrome over Wood set I had dreamed of in my youth.

Well done and thanks for showing us!
I would choose the last one on the right, exactly the same; It has a sound size less overwhelming than the others, a little warmer, but retaining the nuances of timbres and tone of what one would expect in a piano of that level (Chopin sounds incredible on it (although in your hands any of them sounds as the best piano in the world, Tiffany)).
I thought the same - they all sounds great though. It's hard to tell how much is the room/mic sounds though, I guess?
Thanks!
Am I the only one who can't hear any diffrence?
Barely noticeable over RUclips. The biggest difference is caused by the distance to the microphone on the camera.
You might have COVID-19. It's one of the symptoms.
NO !
Don’t worry, me as well
you can feel the difference
I preferred the piano on the bottom left! Also the one on the back left. (You didn't stick to those at all funnily!) "Bright" is a good way to put it. I called it "clear" or "direct" but most people in the store didn't understand what I meant 😂 What you describe as "warm" or "rich" sounds a little too dull and "hidden" to me - no fan at all. I was definitely looking for a super bright piano and my new Förster upright is being delivered tomorrow 😍 My first "real", acoustic piano! Super excited! But my room is really small now I'm worried that it might be too "bright" for it 😁
I never thought I'd spend 17 minutes watching someone pick a piano, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This one's too soft; this one's too bright; this one's too mellow, but this one's just right! Well done! Thanks for a(nother) fascinating video.
my favorite was the second one to the right ! i felt like it had a very "kind" sound if that makes sense 😂 damn i wish i could afford a steinway or even an acoustic upright piano but for the time being i'm stuck with an electric yamaha piano 🙃🥺
andy grds yeah I thought the same thing
That was my favourite too :-)
Yes, I agree. It was well balanced and warm sounding.
Same here, that one sings

So funny. I dont play a instrument i'm a audio engineer and true audiophile (design, setup and calibrate some the worlds best music systems) and from the video ( which I would be curious how you recorded it and mic ) but I also narrowed it down to the same three pianos and also my favorite before you chose which also was the one I liked the most. You play beautifully and congratulations.

Instead of studying piano I’m watching this😂
You deserve this and so much more. Thanks for taking us along
This a most unique experience for us, not directly involved to witness. To see and hear how a musician such as yourself distinguishes between so many beautiful instruments is amazing. Your joy and excitement is quite infectious. ‘Like a child in a Sweet shop’. And when you made each one sing, I then felt sorry for the one’s you decided to reject, each had it’s merits. The chosen one is indeed blessed. Thanks for sharing..
ahh this almost made me cry at the end, I'm so happy for you. It's been my dream to have a Steinway in my home, and your story gave me hope.
I understand the difficulty. I've just been through the same thing - sort of. I'm not really a pianist, I'm a violinist who can play the piano. I recently donated a 6' 1" piano of another leading brand to my church in memory of my late wife who passed 18 month ago. It's not a Steinway - that is out of my ball park financially.. But we do have a local rebuilder here in Metro Washington, DC who practically zero-hours used grands. I went with the organist/choir director of the church. Actually both of our heads were spinning after this drill. We had a room with about 30 grands to choose from almost all within my financial parameters. Our choice has now been delivered. We are now planning a non-worship concert series around this piano. While I do play myself at services and my string quartet (I usually play viola there) and other friends do play at worship from time to time. I'm also putting the touch on my conductors to help find suitable players for non-worship programs..
Ok.
Bless you
The gift of that piano is such a beautiful, loving and appropriate way to memorialize your wife. Her spirit will live with the music played on it's keys.
I'm sorry to hear about your wife.
This was great!!! Thank you for bring us such beautiful performances and sharing your musical journey with us! Thank you!!!
Congratulations to you on your piano! And just to let you know, I became a Patreon for you today! Yay! Good luck and hope to see new videos soon. Again priority is that you sleep, eat and practice well. Take it easy!
Congratulations Tiffany, Love you. And wish you lots of fun with your new stringbox ;) Lolz p.s. what an emotional moment when it arrived wow.

it would be a dream come true to one day just walk in a room full of steinways and just play them all, cant imagine what if feels like knowing youll be able to take one home
I don’t know why it does but it really gets me when there are nice grand pianos in rich people’s houses when no one plays it so it’s just collecting dust in a corner (not to mention probably really out of tune)
You can make a reservation with them, tell them you are interested in testing and trying to know steinway better, i recently did that, and they provided a really good service even after knowing i'm not purchasing
I picked that one almost right away!! Awesome
Tiffany, why didn´t you pick the middle one on the right side, when you wrote, that you played much better with this one. I think it sounded way better, than the other ones.

It was too easy for me to pick a piano. I was also in a room with many Steinways and I brought home the only Kawai there, an RX-5.
@alfredo reis deus... I went upright piano shopping at a Yamaha dealership early this year. Probably played 10 pianos there, most of them new Yamahas, a couple used baby grands (Baldwin and Steinway). The only piano I absolutely loved was a 30 year old Kawai!! All the difference in the world! I wound up buying a new Kawaii K-800 at a Kawaii dealership. It's amazing!!

You are truely an international diva! You Go Girl!
Hi Tiffany,
in one of your last videos - or was it on instagram? 🤔😄 - you asked us, what what we as your audience like about Debussy because you were getting so many requests to play his pieces :-)
I thought about to give you a quiet long answer - which I will haha - because for many years Debussy meant everything to me. Well, over the last month I rediscovered my love for baroque (Bach, Scarlatti, Händel, Vivaldi) and classic (Haydn, Beethoven).
For me this more original music is fascinating due to its purity and audibility of every single note, if you will. Every single note is significant for the melody of the piece. I like that veeeeeery much!
Nevertheless I adore Debussy, who worked in his compositions like a painter. His, like I call it, mixed colors and blended melodies created a completely new and avant-garde world of sounds and harmonics with international influences. This shows his innovativity and his freethinking spirit.
And many famous modern compositions like the Scores of Disney, Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings rely a lot on the harmonics of Debussy. Another beautiful example are the compositions of Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy X - for example his piano collections).
He made it to transfer the classical music to the modern music. You can like it or dislike it. But it definitely is remarkable.
I love his orchestral work - especially Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune! A piece, where you can almost hear sequences of the different movie scores that I mentioned earlier.
About his work on the piano:
ruclips.net/video/oYbgaPNjG3k/видео.html
What Mitsuko Uchida - a pianist that I admire as much as I admire you :-) - says in the linked video, contains many aspects of my fascination for Debussy’s compositions. But I have to add, that she specifically refers to the old and intellectual Debussy here.
His etudes are hyper-intellectual feasibility studies for what you are able to play on the piano - like gothic architecture. How high can you fly?
But of course there also was a young Debussy, too. He composed as emotionally and passionately as for example Schubert did, who unfortunately died too young…
The compositions from Debussy which are touching me most, are from his younger period - Nocturne, Ballade Slave, Rêverie, Suite Bergamasque (I am soooo happy, that you are playing this :-) ), Arabesque, Valse Romantique and so on.
And I personally think that these pieces can be interpetaded best on pianos by Steinway & Sons. Steinway is the manufacurer, who can reproduce these mixed colors and blended melodies in a unique way! On a Steinway chords melt to one wonderful, living creature.
For my hearing on pianos of Bösendorfer and Fazioli the single notes stay seperated from each other.
This could probably be more interesting for classical and baroque music but even here Steinway is the measure of all things for me.
… Well, in baroque I maybe prefer a harpsichord for the most authentic interpretation. But there are definitely some pieces, that have an own wonderful character played on the piano like Scarlatti sonatas or the magnificent harpsichord/piano concertos by Bach.
By the way, do you know the concerto for four harpsichords by Bach? The first movement of this HILARIOUSLY FANTASTIC composition makes me cry every time since I was a child haha. I will give you a link here, too:
ruclips.net/video/Mp7F4y7FWLs/видео.html
Well, I'm digressing haha…
In any case, I hopefully answered your question, what I love about Debussy :-)
Best regards und herzliche Grüße aus Hamburg, Germany

I do know very little about pianos and have not the good ear for hearing the difference between the pianos as you have. Your playing sounded nice on all of them! And I love your videos as you are describing things like this for us that had no idea that it could be variations between the same model of pianos. But I have a few questions:
1. Is the difference between the pianos because they are mostly hand made by humans and therefor is not exactly identical? Or are the difference made by humans on purpose because they now that pianists like you have different taste?
2. Will this tone quality change over the years you use the piano? Or will each piano keep its "base" tone but other things change while parts are worn down/settle in?
And forgot to say: good luck with your new piano! :)
You running around to all the pianos to test them out is really cute! Its enjoyable watching you document how you choose a piano! Your videos never fail to bring a smile to my face!😁
What about selecting a boyfriend? Are you going to tune him the way you want? Just joking. You are very talented. Your fingers are quite magical, like ballet dancing on the black and white keys.
