    Hi Brett,
    I enjoy these videos and so glad you keep them updated. Even though I have a Goldwave licence and it is my preferred audio editor I did use to like to dabble in Audacity but stopped after their issues. Glad they have been reversed.
    I recently stumbled upon the Mail client "EM client". One thing I really like about them is that when I first downloaded the program it was not very screen reader friendly. When I told the developers about this they worked on it and it is much better for screen readers now.

    a couple more apps I'd like to add:
    - Figma (really handy free graphical editor);
    - Microsoft Powertoys (not only a must have app if you have vertical monitors, but also an app with multiple cool features);
    - Dimmer brightness control software (dim your screen in case minimal brightness isn't low enough);

    1) TiddlyWiki - completely customizable and portable (browser based)
    2) Obsidian - knowledgebase creation (Electron based)
    3) Logseq - similar to #2 (Electron based)
    4) ZIM Wiki - capable wiki style program for Windows, Mac, Linux

    1:39 The media player worked instantly. I first tried to find Windows Media Player on my Win 10, but no such luck. Then I tried another player that was free and recommended on the net. There were loads of ads and in the end I'd have to buy a version to play the file I wanted, so that one was no go. But this one installed fast, opened the file fast, and now it's playing - yay!

    • @shabadooshabadoo4918

      Id recommend switching to MPC. VLC is great and has like literally infinity features, but it also seems to have lost something with all of that. When I compare some video files on MPC vs VLC side by side MPC looks much more accurate and more vivid and frankly just works and has less options to really worry about. So if you are just looking to play files and don't need a mountain of config, then I would consider switching. Because even though we don't think about video players needing reliability, it is actually really important for a video player, because we can watch things in the wrong colours and shit for literally years, before we even see them side by side with something else and realize they are wrong.

    DaVinci Resolve and OBS Studio are great, but a big con of both is the steep learning curve for beginners. For video-editing Hitfilm Express or Shotcut might be a bit easier to start; for screen-recording there are Icecream Screen Recorder, Free Cam (Windows only) and QuickTime (Mac only).
    Malwarebytes is no longer free. They offer a free 14-days trial, but after that you need to sign up for a paid plan - it’s not a new thing, it has been like that for a couple of years now.

    • @BrettInTech
      @BrettInTech  Год назад +4

      You're correct DaVinci and OBS do have steep learning curves. But for free Hitfilm no longer offers a free version. Regarding Malwarebytes as I mentioned in the video, after the 14-day premium trial ends, it automatically reverts back to the free version.

    • @LucienSabre
      @LucienSabre Год назад

      @@BrettInTech Hitfilm still has a free version, it’s called Hitfilm Free - it seems to offer less features than Hitfilm Express, but it’s still available….at least that was the case last time I checked. 😊
      I tried Malwarebytes around last Christmas. After the 14 days of trial I was prompted to pay, but I “rejected” it thinking it would go like you say….instead it went that I was blocked from continuing to use the program unless I paid. Maybe it’s because I’m in a different country (the terms might not be the same everywhere), but still I could not use the program for free after the trial ended. 🤷‍♀️

    • @LucienSabre
      @LucienSabre Год назад

      @@BrettInTech Although honestly I’m not sure I’d really need Malwarebytes on a daily base - las year I tried it after a false alarm - as it’s been years since I’ve used an “external” antivirus (other than the built-in Windows security suite, I mean) and I’ve never had any real issues. 🙂

      @@uniqueurl I disagree. Having used Lightroom for years, until they started the "rental" program, I find Darktable to be better. Lightroom is okay for beginner photographers, but Darktable gives you a lot, and I mean a lot of control over your photos....much more than lightroom. Darktable has more editting tools than Lightroom. In short, Darktable has more tools than Lightroom...it is not for beginners....Lightroom is for beginners.

I have tried multiple times to use it for screen capture and it ALWAYS mangles the video. I have opened multiple issues about this with the developers, but I guess Linux is not a priority.
