If I toggled my headphones sorta halfway in in my discman, only the music and background vocals would play. I used to test myself to see if I knew where to sing the lyrics. But also I it was cool to hear the effects on the harmonies that I never noticed as a 15 yr old. Thank you for all the vids you do on Pearl Jam and the 90s music that’s been integrated into my dna 😂
oh my god that was so good 17 year old me who listened to this song and spent 8 years teaching myself how to sing it well like you can loved every second of this video. I wish I was 25 again and had that malleability in my larynx to wail out songs like this still.
This song was so cool on Guitar Hero 3. Loving the production tips. Had no idea you could automate the send to a bus and it's not the same thing as creating an aux and automating its volume, thanks man. Btw you totally slayed that panned harmony line.
This is very cool. I love that song. The last time I really sang was back in the mid 80's when I was a kid. It would be very cool to find my singing voice again :)
Chris you know first time i saw you on David Wallman channel and started following you.but the way you are growing is the light speed.Best of luck soon you and David gonna have equall subscribers 👏👏👏😊😊
I create that "ghost verb" kind of effect by placing a fully wet reverb on a track with a dry reversed vocal, then reversing a bounce of that! This then gets blended back in with the original vocal. So you end up with a reversed reverb on a "forward" vocal like in the song. What you did sounds awesome as well!
Never really liked this song all that much, but I knew I'd appreciate it in this context. Man, you really channel Chris Cornell in the harmonies on the chorus.
Hey Chris I love how you always find a way to mention Chris Cornell! Awesome video by the way we really love all of the amazing knowledge and tips you provide! Have a wonderful day🙏😇😁
Appreciate the video, man! It’s great hearing some appreciation for Eddie Vedder in depth, nonetheless with some backstory and knowledge in combination!
Hey could you take a look at Dug Pinnick of King's X? He has such a unique voice. He's a hero of mine. Maybe try "Summerland" or even "Goldilox"? Great video as usual!
Lyrics: Eeoo zama dama zingy do billboard numero uno (ohyeah) Eeeo zama mama dingy dong covero time magazine-o (hayeah) Eeoo yama nama zeeoo nirvana kiss my assa (hayeah)
Awesome as always Chris, I always thought they had used a little reverse reverb on this track like they did on stinkfist. It's very similar but not at the same time. There's another reverb effect called glass I think and on guitar it gives you the nothing else matters effect. All very cool to mess around with.
It would be really cool to see you go over a song from Evanescence. Going Under, Call me when you're sober, my immortal, haunted, something like that. Also, Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace would be cool. Keep up the great videos!
Both mixes are great, in my opinion. In some cases, I prefer the original. "Even Flow" is actually one of those cases. But I prefer the Brendan O'Brien mix of "Alive." One thing I notice in the Brendan O'Brien mix is the vocals are much more "forward." There's less reverb on them and more saturation, it sounds like.
10/10 content again! So deadly 🤘 However, I think we should sit down sometime and have a long winded chat about a mild collective that goes by the name of The Dillinger Escape Plan 😂 - All jokes aside this Grunge binge is UNREAL..maybe Dillinger later? Lol
Wow, I didn't notice how crazy these vocals are. It really adds to the experience. Put it back on my 2.1 set up and now that I know what to look for I'm going through the whole album and loving it even more! Great video. I love listening to your take on these songs and I always walk away with a great appreciation for the music after. Thanks for all that you do!
Have you ever heard of Masayuki Tanaka? He is a Japanese rock star that sang in the band Crystal King. Before he had an unfortunate accident of a baseball hitting his throat, he sang almost like a woman. I’d love to hear your analysis of him!
How did they do this with tape? Lol. So cool man, sounds so erie with just vocals. I was told it was called poltergeist effect. I dont know the exact terms, this is beyond my depth, but so cool.
@@joshdoesstuff763 :D carbs make you burp and fart :) if you're sipping water often, as I do while singing, then yes, lots of burping. each sip is a bit of air that goes down. when you use your support and compression it'll push the air back up. now, burping hurting has to be either because your throat is messed up or you got a very acidic stomach
@@thedeadserv when i burp it turns into a scream from below the voice box. Yeah i am cutting out carbs as of today. I figured that had something to do with it. On the bright side, that means I’m using support correctly I guess. Thanks for the info!
Hey Chris. On many earlier versions, or just the early popular version they played on the radio, at the VERY BEGINNING of the song, Vedder does like, a short primal scream, as the opening chord starts up half way through is scream. And it is very noticeable and hear-able. Can you find that part and isolate it please?
Long ago, before I even knew what it "was", I actually guessed at a reverse reverb on several songs, as soooo many do it. And always thought was cool. And I've heard this song so many (100?) times, as was THE ALBUM in my high school, (along with U2's Actung) and just guessed this was reverse too, but now isolated, I hear it's forward. So thanks for that. At the end, is the guitar actually recorded on the vocal track? Or bleeding through?
Think that “life” note comes to Eddie naturally and without doing the goofy voice first or would you guess he has some sort of process to crack up in that note like you do?
I think he could do it both ways, he’s learned a coordination to call this kind of sound up in his voice. Now it’s “natural” but might not always have been
Yes! Thanks for asking! :) I open and close enrollment throughout the year and offer specials from time to time. Send me an email at info@mymusicalvoice.com and we can talk further!
Mate, for the first time I don't understand something in one of your videos. You're gonna take the master track now that you have the background vocals recorded. You're gonna slide it over and blend it into taste. Okay. Do you mean Vedder's vocals? So if I was to do this with a song, I would essentially need to do an extra take on the main vocal line, hammer than one with quarter delay and fade it in and out with automation. ON TOP of the other lead vocal and the choir voices. Is that right? And another question: Then how do you get preverb on a track where no sound was uttered for several seconds leading up to the place where you want to fade in the track? Like if I want preverb on a track saying "YEAH" but there was no noise before that word? Thanks Chris! We'll see you for more!
You don't even need to re record the main vocal line. Just duplicate it... slide it over so that it is AHEAD of the main line, then drown it in verb, pull it in and out and see what happens. So no extra takes. Does that help clarify?
@@chrisliepe Oh! Nic3! Yeah it does. Thanks a million as always! Chris, your generosity with your time and energy is so cool. Here´s an idea for something broader that you haven´t touched on yet. Some insights into your diet, bodily management or other workflow tips of yours maybe? You seem like someone who gets a lot of cool sh%t done! Just an idea if you feel like trying a whole new topic that´s still related to what you do here. I have an akg2c14 and a 8i8 focusrite with logic, how does your Vocals sounds so good even when talking into the mic? Do you have better gear than me in general or do you have some good eq settings?
I'm compressing on the way in using my Manley Core Reference Channel strip and then I'm hitting it again with a Waves Omni Channel for additional compression and saturation.
The Brendan O’Brien mix has a bunch of really off putting panning. He seems to have a hard rule where one guitarist is right and one is left and that’s absolute and parts of songs just sound like crap because if it. It’s really distracting.
I'm really appreciating this grunge series we have going here
I do too! More grunge and post grunge!
came here to say the same thing
It’s really well timed for me because I’m having a big grunge revisit
Reliving of my high school times!
I’m not even a vocalist but I watch this to learn vocal production techniques! I’ve already learned a lot of new tricks!

vocal analysis of fire woman by the cult? would love to see that, love this channel!
