  • Battlefield is one of the most iconic FPS games of the past few decades. From the humble beginnings of 1942 to EA's upcoming Battlefield 2042, we break down the history of Battlefield and its legacy over the years.
    Battlefield has released several games over the last two decades as one of the most recognizable franchises in the video game industry. With Battlefield 2042 just around the corner, now is the perfect time to take a look at the History of Battlefield. In this video, we'll start from the beginning with Battlefield 1942, and how it set such a significant foundation for future Battlefield games to build off of.
    Battlefield has an emphasis on land, air, and sea combat, creating a series that relishes chaotic and exciting gameplay, eventually expanding upon the core Conquest mode with other ways for players to engage each other. Every Battlefield game is notable in its own way, but Bad Company 2, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield 1 are standouts for various reasons, whether it's a greater emphasis on campaign modes, or taking the Battlefield destruction capabilities with the Frostbite engines to an all-time high.
    Battlefield 2042 is slated to release on October 22, 2021, on Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, PS5, and PC. The game will increase the size of Battlefield matches to a massive 128 players, with customizable load-outs and the incorporation of brand new Specialists in place of character classes. We’ll have so much more to break down with Battlefield 2042 in the coming days, so stay tuned!

    I think bfv was more a victim of presentation. Most I found just had an issue of how it was presented and how the devs addressed the dissatisfaction. They really didn't do themselves any favors

      While the social commentary certainly didn't help the game, it was a buggy mess for a looong time. Whenever something got patched, something else got screwed up. Also, don't forget the TTK changes which happened TWICE. It only turned into a good game after they introduced the Pacific theatre of war, but soon after they stopped updating it except for skins to spend your money on.

    Battlefield V problem was that they took the wrong direction with the first trailer. They focused too much on costumisation instead on giving the fans the gritty WW2 feeling they wanted. Comments from the developers facing the backlash didnt help the games popularity and the content delays and never given features were the nails in the coffin. The War in the Pacific DLC turned the game in the right direction but sadly they ended content Support after that, laeving out the whole easter front and a chance to redeem themselves like DICE Did with Battlefront II.

      You missed one of the biggest things most people brought up which is historical revision. The biggest offender of this is the entire campaign of Nordlys. It takes a 15 minute google search to find that they completely disgraced the people who went on their heavy water campaign to prevent the Germans from creating a hydrogen bomb. It wasn't just in the single player either, now don't get me wrong here I could care less about being a chick in a video game. What I did care about is if you tell me this is going to be historically accurate then spit in my face with historically inaccurate features then yeah no. I know this is a video game, I know its not real, I know getting blown up after jumping out of a plane to get revived by a syringe isn't really realistic.

    I think the main reason people disliked BFV for the inclusion of women, was because BF1 set the bar too high as far as immersion went. Like you said, Operations in BF1 was so fucking good, and then DICE made a complete 180 and went full PR Gen Z on BFV.
    It really does boil down to historical accuracy, because I guess people expected BFV to just be an upgraded BF1, which no one would've complained about. The idea to include women wasn't a bad one, but the execution was definitely poorly done.

    • @UrbaneLegend
      @UrbaneLegend 2 года назад +1

      It's worth mentioning that immersion and historical accuracy are two separate things. I would argue that BF1 wasn't as accurate as ppl expected -- trench warfare was incredibly slow. BF1 would be more accurate if a match spanned several weeks and your player got hypothermia or trench foot from all the cold wetness hahaha
      But ofc we know that's not what an action/compelling game needs -- BF1 was wild and full of battlefield moments and hints of historical accuracy through it's aesthetic, but it's incredible immersion in its gameplay made me completely disregard any historical accuracy cause it's just too damn fun!

    25:01 that's why I love Battlefield 1. Because the way they portray all of it makes the developers seem like they actually cared about this war and it's significance in history. Battlefield 2 was my personal fav BF game of all time because at the time, it was absolutely state-of-the-art graphical fidelity for its time, it is still to this day, the most complete Battlefield game ever made, it had BOT support / MOD support / LAN Support / MAP Editor / The BattleRecorder / Eventually it had fully unlocked 64 player maps for singleplayer and coop / It had the Commander Mode which is massively missed now / and was set in the modern era. To me, there has never been a Battlefield game ever released that was a more complete experience for everybody then Battlefield 2 (until BF2042). Wish you woulda showed off some of the BattleRecorder stuff because that was just absolutely incredible, being able to watch your past battlefield matches, freely roaming the camera all over the entire map, with pause and slow-motion functionality, with the smallest file sizes of all time for something thats recording the entire 20-30 minute match, could be used in both MP and SP vs BOTs. It was the ultimate capture tool for capturing some of your most iconic moments in Battlefield, and the dumped it. For absolutely no reason. It's never made a return and has only ever been seen in BF2.

    Honestly firestorm was my favorite battle royale when you could still find matches. It had its issues like the clunky looting/inventory, but it nailed the feeling of scavenging to survive in a warzone full of hostiles. The animations of friendlies occasionally stumbling in their spring and doing natural idle and reaction animations just made it feel so cinematic and grandiose, despite its smaller player count compared to other BRs. It should have been a free to play addition like warzone and it would have at least gained a reliable cult following.

    MW2 was the first real FPS I played on console. I played BF4 at launch on PC and being my first BF game it holds a special place for me. Yes the game had issues with netcode and servers at launch but after about a month or so most of that was smoothed out. I've played BF4 recently as well. BF1 is a game that I put a lot of hours into completely as a solo player. I loved it, the war stories brought some somber realizations to what war was actually like in WW1 and the multiplayer was fantastic making me feel like I was living through war history. I only got BFV about a month or so ago while it was on sale to kill time for 2042. I originally didn't get BFV due to a lot of the nay-saying around its historical inaccuracies and my interest in other games at the time. Man, I wish I had gotten into BFV when it was new, I've really enjoyed my time put in over the last few weeks (maybe due to it feeling like a new game to me and my excitement for a new BF game).
    BF4 is probably my favorite of the three that I've really played, but I like some of the quality of life changes in BFV (such as the way some vehicles are spawned).
    I'm still excited for 2042 regardless of the specialists. DICE typically fixes major issues over time, they're good devs. I just hope they can reason with EA to listen to the players for the better. Either way I'll be playing all three modes available.

    Honourable mention must go to "Desert Combat". It was a full conversion mod for 1942. It basically took the desert maps and replaced all the models for soldiers, guns and vehicles with modern equipment (they even made a flyable C130 Spectre as a mobile spawn point before it was cool). It was so influential that it basically gave DICE the idea for BF2. So much so that they bought the company behind the mod so they could help make BF2 (we shall not mention that DICE then shuttered said studio straight after its release and put people out of work!).

    BF is THE game for me and has been since 1942 . I have spent years in the games. BF2 was the biggy, with BF4 , BF1 and BF3 coming if very very close. Hardline was pants, and BF 5 I have struggled to get into.. Was so pleased when 2042 came out on trial, it was brilliant even though it was supposedly an old version. PS, I'll be playing on Series X and PC. BRING IT.....

    Might be a bit reductive to boil the comments regarding women in WW2 down to misogyny. It was the double discourse of telling the players on one hand that the game strived to be gritty and realistic, and on the other that historical accuracy should be relegated to the backstage to allow modern socio-political views to be pushed forward.
    They could've done it better and more elegantly, introducing those same women in the game had they just had a single coherent message.

    • @GodEnderX
      @GodEnderX 2 года назад

      except the notion they were pushing socio-political views simply wasn't true. they just wanted to expand their marketplace to include woman, because that means more money for them. it was just flavor of the month reactionary nonsense. the people who claimed about realism were perfectly fine with every other unrealistic nonsense that battlefield has.

While others like 1942 still having running or revived servers. And there is 2142, with both revived servers and an add-on that improves graphics, audio, animations, and general gameplay.

    Bad company 2 had good vehicle warfare you just had to be good at flying or a good shot with a tracer gun. Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 had the web browser because server owners were taking over most of the heavy matches while offering different versions of conquest, tdm and rush. I've seen maxed out multiplayer matches on conquest lasting more than an hour and a variety of different game modes like gun master. The reason they kept it going till battlefield 4 was because it helped to ban and monitor games while also giving server owners the option to more easily track hackers and rule breakers. Even have autobanning systems that restricted people from using grenade launchers or rpgs in infantry only servers. I even remember a lot of youtubers growing up from the battlefield 3 and 4 games because dice was back to back offering amazing new things and kept the promise of their season pass which I missed. Imagine paying 60 bucks to have 3 dlc and shortcut kits to get new guns?

Gameplay doesn’t look that great and absolutely hate the specialist idea - main character syndrome at it’s finest. It’s just not battlefield. Also HUD is ugly af and has few maps. Overall I’m very hesitant and think it will be a letdown and not the best ever.

    BF2 was my first BF, so it holds a special place in my heart. Thanks to the modding community on PC, we now have full 64 player offline bot matches. They had to reverse engineer the navigation meshes the AI uses to get around the map and fight. We now have the hardware to run 64 player bot maps with full vehicles compared to when it originally released, too.
