Thanks for the shout-out, so happy you loved the knife! I think you summed it up perfectly - great quality knife, minus the clip and the jimping. On my first one (not the one I sent you) I did sand down the jimping, because I felt like I was using a saw on my finger every time I'd put my thumb there. The clip is so short (and ugly, but that's beside the point), I almost lost the knife twice already, and I already started looking for someone to make a custom clip for that. I think the fact that I'm newer to EDC helped me to not have a bias when it comes to SOG, and I'm happy I got it.
Not sure anybody has pointed this out, but you can order the other type of clip they use on the LTE version for $5 from SOG. Seems like it should work. May order one when I get the 3 LE ones (which still has the loud clip on them) I ordered in to see if it works.
Funny. I just took mine out of storage today and the first thing I did was take the clip off. Then I see you post a video on it. Makes a world of difference when it’s removed by then it leaves a hole where the screw is that goes all the way through both ends of the knife because the screw won’t stay in without the clip. The thumb studs and flipper were rough when I got mine but once it breaks in, is good and unnoticeable.
I have the same one and I do love it. I agree with all you said I just don't dislike the pocket clip as much as you do lol. It's not the best by any stretch but I've gotten used to it and it goes in and out of pocket pretty well for me. Great review as always 👍
Was "cheese grater" the term you were looking for regarding gimping on the blade? This was one of my first knives in my collection. I ended up grinding down the flipper tab much smoother and gave myself room for a forward finger choil. Removed the thumb studs, and put a zip tie. Now it's one of my favorite knives... Oh, and the pocket clip is back in the box. Feels much better in the hand.
I'm with you on that clip. Why are some brands trending with the wide clips ? I know for most it's got to be deep carry but for me an inch or less sticking out of the pocket is fine. Helps with a sure, fast grip. Branding the clip in small letters doesn't bother me but this is ridiculous. Yeah CF laminate over G-10 is too slick, those cuts give traction as well as look pleasing. I've heard S.O.G. has been doing some much needed upgrading, now someone needs to explain pocket clips to them cause they don't have a clue. Great review btw.
Thanks bro! And I agree with you on the carry depth of pocket clips. I still prefer a relatively deep carry, but it’s definitely not a make or break for me. Just keep the branding overload off it lol
I actually have a few sog knives I like mostly fixed blades. The trident folders are pretty good. The pocket clips on the folders are pretty annoying but other than that no complaints.
SOG seems to be going after the higher end market. Their prices are pretty high anyway. Quality has gone up too I have to say along with the price. They are definitely trying to change their image it seems. I do like a lot of their stuff.
I bought the D2 version of this earlier this year knowing about the pocket clip and that too is my only major complaint. The clip is HORRIBLE but the fidget factor and function are nice. 👍🍻
I bought a dog knife from ebay, when I received it oh man that knife was junk. Didn't try to find out why you couldn't deploy it, locked up. Seller wouldn't take returns so before I contacted Ebay I emailed dog told my story and no questions asked they sent me a new knife. That's customer service.
Yeah that clip is just stupid. Interesting knife might need to check one out. I really like the looks of their ultra xr and have been wanting a money clip type of knife but just can’t drop 125 on a SOG.
@@WaynesSharpWorld oh yes. I’ve definitely been looking at that one but it’s a bit too expensive for me. I’m trying to not get comfortable breaking the $200+ ceiling lol
could you do a tutorial on how to make a pocket clip? i have the terminus xr and agree, the pocket clip is way too tight. before i got it, i don't remember anyone mentioning that.
I don’t really know how to actually make a pocket clip, but if it’s too tight, just take it off and VERY CAREFULLY and lightly, bend it until it fits right.
"SOB!".... Sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for your big "negative" on this "SOG" and had to agree. All one needs is "SOB"... errh... "SOG" billboarding on the side of one's pant pocket. "Hey, I'm carrying a knife....but not any knife.... I'm carrying a "SOB". "SOD", "BOG", "GOG", "HOG".....? Nice textured carbon fiber handle. Nice steel.
I couldn't disagree with you more about the pocket clip. I like that it doesn't look like the other fifty million pocket clips. I can't wait to get my hands on one.
Just came across this review. Think you hit it on the head...great knife for the price, but there are a few cons, clip and jimping. Not much you can do regarding clip other than remove it, but I took a dremel grinder bit to the jimping on blade and rounded it on edges and softened the top, not it is much better. Use it every day for past few weeks. I have a few other SOG folders and they are great daily carry knives for the price, and if you mess one up, you don't feel really bad about it.
@@WaynesSharpWorld Buongiorno. Answering my own question now, I purchased one, and it has ball bearings. BUT that's only scratching the surface on this knife. It arrived NOT in a box, as most EDCs, but in a plastic blister pack suitable for Walmart or the grocery checkout line -- cheesy. Operation was very lumpy. After six surgeries - never before had a knife needing so much attention, it now works well. As received, it has black road tar (that's what it looked like and felt like) for lube. It would not swing freely like my Ganzo Firebird FB7651, or my Civivi Cogent. The flipper tab was nearly impossible to flip without medical attention for a sore finger. And so on. Six disassemblies later, much Dremel, file, and sandpaper work, as well as copious KPL, it is finally satisfactory. The lock bar no longer scrapes the groove in the blade. I like a challenge, but this is ridiculous. And I do not like any knife with washers!
Wayne's Sharp World- I agree with you 150%....I think having your name on the blade, the handle (some times, on both sides) and again on their gaudy and un-necessary and ridiculous clips. But, in addition, the main reason I won't, and DON'T carry anything "S.O.G.' id because of their positions and way they feel about Soldiers and Veterans....they don't think much of us, I damn sure don't feel the need to drop money on their company. Which sucks, because I REALLY want(ed) their 'S.O.G. ' copy of the ACTUAL Vietnam "SOG" unit Bowie. I've wanted it SO bad, for decades now, but just wont give my money to this shit-turd of a company. Then, I found the Bark River Copy of same knife, for close to the same price, and, gotta tell you guys, IT is superior in EVERY way, for just about the same, or slighty a bit more the the "S.O.G' brand copy (gotta include the period after each letter....ridiculous again, just like other shit brands that feel the need to label every single inch of their product, whatever it may be), so I am saving up for it-AFTER I get more ammo and a 11.5 upper for my AR, before any possible ban. So, for any and all knife companies out there that feel the "S.O.G" business model is the way to go, branding everything, including the friggin' screws, just know that doing so turn A LOT of prospective knife buyers off if you do so.
Thanks for the shout-out, so happy you loved the knife!

Hey Buddy. I am really impressed with SOG! What they put out the last year or so is just good! They come back with great stuff. Greetings my Friend
They’re making up for lost time with me as well with this model. Hope you are well as healthy as well, my friend! 👊🏼
I recently picked up this knife in D2 with the deep red G2, and I really dig it. Nice job...

Bearings or washers?
I believe washers. Not 100% sure though. An axis style lock kinda makes what the blade is running on not so important.
