ADDENDUM: I didn’t include the “IDRIS K” in this comparison, but still it should have at least been mentioned at some point in the video. It's not a standalone version of the IDRIS, not like the M or the P, instead it’s the result of an upgrade kit that was offered during the last holiday sale only to IDRIS P owners. It increased its anti fighter capabilities by swapping out the four remote turrets for an automated point defense system, it replaces one of its gun turrets for an single anti ship missile turret, and included a size ten laser beam weapon that’s mounted where the rail cannon would normally go.

Yeah, I think a lot of orgs are going to look into getting one. It's a great mobile HQ, has decent cargo, capable of repair and rearming ships. If your looking for a fight, I would %100 go for the Idris. That railgun it mounts is a dedicated ship killer through and through.
Though i think the kraken is going to be slightly more popular because it really needs it's fighters to do damage while the Idris had less but more powerful weapons. And it's hanger is big enough to fit some fighters or a shuttle or two.

Haha, I've done that with an 890, or least as much as I can before they all despawn. I managed to fit 9 in the hangar if I remember correctly, and actually on the elevator where it could raise and lower properly. Then you could land probably 12 on top of the closed hanger and 4 or 5 in the cargo bay. I think at worst you could fit 24 Merlins into and onto the 890, so I can hardly imagine what an actual carrier would be able to handle.

      @mobiuscoreindustries 5 лет назад +22

Well, it is already there to an extent. The main issue is the fact that armor isn't active right now. Damage is way higher than what it will eventually be because there isn't any mitigation applied to it, plus the intention is that ships will suffer catastrophic failures instead of instantly exploding. These systems are present in the game already, but cannot possibly be activated until server side OCS is implemented because without it the tracking of all the data would be impossible to sustain.

It will come to a version close to the end of 2020. The Core Tech Feture is called "Physicallized Ship Component Damage". Basically, you have to go through the shield, then the hull, and then you can damage any subsystems of the ship. also you are already able to interchange some systems to expand your ships capapbilities. this will be the core aspect of upgrading ships later on once the game comes to beta in 2021/2022.

The Kraken also will perform very differently, depending on what ships it carries and how well trained their pilots are, so it makes it a fully skill-based carrier, while the Idris-M and its heavy shielding, armor and that huge rail gun at the front will get you a good result, no matter how good you are.

If these 2 titans were to fight( and damn that would be awsome) I my theory for optimal uses of each are as follows: Idris loads 3 super Hornets because the Idris is a big game hunter and its point defense isn't the best. If the battle is in an open playing field the idris should close distance to where its S8 guns can engage reliably so it isn't just relying on the cannon. If not an open playing field then just get in there and brawl. Reason later comming in Kraken half. For the Kraken if it can mount a large ship on top then the retaliator bomber. 3-4 Hornets, and the rest are the small ships with big gun (forgot the name). How the kraken fights: in open. Launch fighters and boogie. It does not want to be in range of the rail cannon. (Calling the irdis weapon a rail gun is like calling a rocket launcher a bottle rocket). Let the fighters do the fighting basically how a modern day/ww2 carrier plays. In a closed terrain is similar. Try to not let the idris get a clear line of sight because it has the better guns and wants to get on top of you. This is imo feel free to post alt idea

Tactically speaking, the major downside to the kraken is its vulnerability to ambush. 3 retaliators or eclipses with full size torpedoes ambushing from above would not only damage the landing pads but all ships docked there this reducing its response capability.
The Idris has the advantage here of holding its ships internally, so even if it can hold fewer ships they are more protected.

@@danmoore4503 it should work, considering that cargo is loaded directly on the landingpad wich "should" include transporting vehicles towards the ships on top, or rovers etc would be useless... im not sure about how long a ballista is, but maybe they will design the elevator exactly towards that kind of "balance", it would be kinda logic to lets say: ok everything that you can push into a cutless is okey and everything above is not.
the issue i see, especially with hurricanes and ballistas is their lack of shieldpower and they mentioned a couple month ago that the shield of the kraken wont shield the ships on top, so you wont be motivated to let them stay there if you go to battle, i could also imagine the same sort of innactivated weaponsystem they do on port olisar etc.

Kraken = what being on a warship is like
In other words drake ships are what the military ship should be like, and the Anvil/RSI/Aegis ships are just scifi warships. Military is function and that's it, with the exception of O country and chief mess. It's why I love the drake designs the most. Function to the point they make the "military" ships look bad.

All the pipes, cabling, ect is all readily accessible for ease of repair and damage control since you build a warship knowing it'll take damage. Aegis, Anvil, and RSI all have way to much interior paneling for warships. Hell where are all the valve stems for my character to hit his head on?! It's a rule somewhere that all warships must be able to give there crews random head trauma when they least expect it or have someone walk past them in a pway!

As chris roberts said: A kraken would do certain missions better. I would guess it is more for civilian type of missions and when in a battle with military ships as you said, it needs to stay away...but only the 2 medium sized ships actually can be really dangerous in wounding an Idris as the rest of the small sized ships cann really penetrate shields or later on the armor. It is made to send out some ships with quick rearm, repair refuel mechanics and mainly for its capital ship gun....which is pn both ships the only real nasty weappn to face against as another capital ship like a javelin as well. A bengal is probably far too heavy armed to tackle.
As CR said in an interview: A 1vs1 would end up nadty for a kraken for sure. It isnt meant for such heavy duty military grade approaches. You would probably be even waaaaay better off against multiple enemies with fast ships of medium to large size + fighters. They wont really endanger an idris but it would also have a harder time than when a kraken lauches an equal amount of ships.
So: Kraken can really tackle other capital ships. Idris isnt that good of a multipupose base for your ventures...especially on a planet...the kraken sound much more fun in that regards to setup an adventire weekend with your org getting exploration and gathering done in multiple magnitudes. And it probably is cheaper to run as you deal with consumable of normal grade...while I dont want to know how much missiles or railgun shells cost per firing 1 round. ;)

Especially the P variant can have decent cargo capacity and its ability to land on planet and rather good defence (compared to dedicated cargo ships) might make it quite good for some specific scenarios.
Also it might be a surprisingly good smuggling ship for similar reasons.

Every time I look at one of these, I see something that makes me think there's going to be a LOT of variants of the Kraken. For instance, it looks like the medium landing pad deck is just sitting on top of another 4 small landing pads. This makes me think that there may be Kraken variants that have the stock 4s/2m configuration, a 4s/4s configuration, and a 2m/2m configuration, at the very least. The 2m/2m option would be a boon for mining guilds using 4 Prospectors, being able to carry supplies for long trips, and having plenty of space for mined cargo.

Here's what I came up with:
    - Kraken as Mothership
    - Prospector (small) for Mining
    - Expanse (small) for Refining
    - Vulture (small) for Salvage (optional)
    - Cutlass Black (medium) for Cargo/Combat/Dropship
    - Freelancer MAX (medium) for Ground Operations
    - - Ursa Rover
    - - 2x ROC
    - - 2x Dragonfly
Leaving the internal bays of the Kraken either as unable to function as standard hangars OR carrying 2 fighters for defense
Plus 1-2 spare small pads for defensive fighters or other utilities

What's your opinion of an Idris-P with the upgrade kit versus either the Kraken or Idris-M

    • @nerfedgod
      @nerfedgod 5 лет назад +1

The Idris M is on a different league from the other 2, having military spec components and weaponry. The Idris P is a stripped down Idris, that becomes more defensive with the K upgrade, sacrificing much of its dps. The Kraken is a "paper armor" utility ship with pretty decent offensive capabilities, it has about 50% less shield than the Idris P or M, and we can assume about 50% armor less too. The M version should easily tank both the K and the Kraken and would easily destroy them with a mix of S10 hell and a torpedo salvo, thats kind of a nobrainer. Even if you consider Eclipses as ships, the M can take a beating and none of the other two can, especially the Kraken.
Now the K vs the Kraken... The would be close, I believe the K pack was meant to balance things. This is one of those fights 100% dependant on skill, can the Idris keep the S10 on target? can the Kraken evade and make use of its 2 med fighters and 6 small bombers? Will the Idris just launch a small squad to board the Kraken? The ship looks terribly vulnerable to boardings...
Theory crafting aside, there's gonna be a load of Krakens, they will be less expensive to fly and will turn a profit due to their utility, but you can't say the same for the Idris, so I'm pretty sure they will just kick ass in combat to make up for being a money sink.

Man i hate how each landing pad is only for 1 ship when it's big enough to fit 4 or 5 ships, in both vessels. The IDRIS should be able to store several ships by simply parking them to the side at an angle allowing for 6 to maybe 12 ships to fit within it, especially since they don't really need a start strip with they can just hover up and fly out. You just know that the military would cram it as full as possible so the publicly available version might store 3 ships, but when you come against a military version... that's a 20 ship minimum lol xD I wanna see the first group go against a military version thinking that the big cannon is the only problem and then a swarm of fighters and bombers burst out in a giant "Oh shit!" moment :D

    • @nerfedgod
      @nerfedgod 5 лет назад +6

The one jumping the other will likely take the win. In equal circumstances I believe the Idris M would always win due to having better armor/shield and superior firepower. If you consider both ships are full of Eclipses, I still think the 3x cap shields + armor and point defence missiles give the Idris M advantage. Now regarding the Idris P... I would probably put my money on the Kraken, but it would be a close fight.
I don't see the Kraken as a face tank, more like a support ship in the back of the battle, rearm and refuelling small and medium fighters avoiding contact with big guns at all costs.
Now the Idris... thats where you land when you're in a broken Sabre right in the middle of the heat, cause the Idris will be right there too, face tanking the bigger capitals and sniping whatever she's facing.

    • @fmartingorb

I think the Idris M specially, even the K is more of a frontline ship, the Kraken is a great support ship with teeth. It can repair, refuel and rearm... plus carrying a full squadron that do not have the range. I have both ships and it provides a great base of operation and impeccable escort for hulls and orion. I tend to put the Kraken in the back with the Nautilus to cover the rear part of the fleet. Now its cargo is compromised by its function and we should take that in account. I think combat at the scale that will include capital ships will be occurring all around planetary systems and include multiple POIs. In this regard, I think the two carriers will turn out quite equal in performance where the Kraken is more suited to supporting a fleet in indirect combat by serving as a mobile deployment center, repairing ships and providing fire support wherever necessary; while the Idris is more favorable in direct fleet engagements with superior anti-capital firepower but not as well-suited to supporting the other vessels in the fleet with the choked flight deck and smaller carrying capacity.
Also, I think the Kraken will end up with cheaper operating costs and higher potential to earn income outside of combat (even the base variant, not even considering the new Privateer). This will help offset any losses to the org during confrontation, and be more friendly to smaller groups who can't field a full capital lineup for every fight. This game won't be Eve Online, hot-dropping a capital ship force will be rarer and much more difficult due to crew requirements, fuel considerations, and subcap support necessary to keep everything running.

Not sure if I fully agree here.
DPS and Numbers of the guns, turrets, and distance says otherwise.
In terms of long Range. Kraken stands no chance. BUT... If the Kraken gets to a medium to close range battle Distance, Idris is rather out gunned. Not only by the numbers of turrets, but by the size, as 5 are size 6 and bigger.
Idris has Missiles and Mass Driver, sure. But Missiles are limited and capital shields recover more than what the missiles can damage alone, and Mass Driver not only is a fixed forward facing gun, but also needs time to charge and needs power routing (Confirmed by CIG to require more power than seen in the Demo, leaving you to sacrifice something to give more power to weapons, which is dumb to do once the enemy is close)
If we also use the logic of fighters. Sure the Idris can have 3 bombers with it... But the Kraken can have 8+. Or to make it even worse, IF IT FITS, it can have 6 Eclipse bombers and 1 retaliator with it.
Kraken is by far the more dangerous option. Where it lacks is agility, Vtol, Long Distance Fighting, it packs up with MOAR GUNS, Bigger main Thrusters, and more fighter escorts.
A fully crewed Kraken (with Escort) can make an Fully Crewed Idris's (with Escort) day a bitter one.
It all comes down to Idris playing smart with distance. If the enemy gets too close. Do not rely on the Mass Driver.
(also yes I did the math of turret damage alone. Optimal Kraken Turret power, vs Optimal Idris weapon power, which is the front. Kraken has more than Twice the Alpha Damage, which is damage per shot, not DPS, than the Idris NOT counting the Mass Driver, cause there are no numbers on that one yet.. But we gotta think about Damage - Time + Power.)

I think carrying ships for combat its already obsolete in SC, SC gameplay is basically the bigger the better, what do you want your fighters for? To make capital shiels giggle ?
What your squadron of avengers is going to do to a capital ship lol
The only useful task for small ships is to land in planets and deploy troops for land warfare, other than that they are usless
Right now, you already can place a 890, a HH or a carrack and just watch an entire server bounce against your shiels, now imagine going agains size 7 turrets firing at you at 10km ...
Now days big ships are vulnerable because 1 or 2 AS missiles will sink or take a carrier out of action, but in SC they will barely damage the pint that if they even manage to get close
So carrying ships will not matter outside logistics
