Honestly, I like the idea of the Banu Merchantman. I'm just thinking of shipping stuff to remote worlds and setting up shop to supply the locals with stuff they don't get locally. The Privateer sounds like it's more like running a business, and focused on large systems.
I think it's going to be quite tough to get players to be permanent security and do that for hours on end; for that reason I hope we can hire NPC security.
Great Video! Thanks LotW. To be honest, I own only one ship in Star citizen and it's the Banu Merchantman. To add to that, I have zero interest in travelling bazaars, merchant, or even cargo hauling! NO. THIS BMM is a Space Galleon. It'll be the Golden Hind and I'll be Francis Drake. I'll explore the seven system and most of the cargo I'll haul will be the one I'll have taken from my gunpoint negociations.
This is why I always veer away from extremely large ships. I love group play but huge group play is something I hold no stock in. Especially with how expansive this verse will be -- finding a large crew to play police in a privateer is not realistic to me. You'd have to hire mercs to fill out security and one could easily help another group to sneak on and hijack the privateer. Great video, Law of the West. You are the reason I got the BMM during alien week. Soo many possibilites and soo much fun to be had. Thanks :D
I agree, this is why I have set a limit to my crew size when choosing whether or not to buy it, currently my biggest is the reclaimer and probably won't bother with anything bigger. That said time will tell and my mind could be changed.
CIG needs to update ship info on the website and give us info on changes as soon as possible so people can make informed purchases and not feeling screwed over(both old and new players).
One other thing to consider, jump point availability. I understand the capital sized jump points will be more limited than large jump points. This will limit the Privateer's mobility as well.
I am in love with the idea that CIG is creating the elements for players to create their own stories with, ad that you can extrapolate what will be possible with the kinds of ships they lay the foundation with. I watched a video on how they plan on dealing with intersolar economics and industry as the players & NPCs regulate it. That alone will drive so many gameplay elements. Its massively impressive. But when you add exploration, xenology, and war into it, it's going to exponentially increase the amount of things you can do in the 'verse. It's not just a functioning system, it's a living universe.
Oh thank god this video is back. You removed it before I could watch it on my lunch. I died a little inside when that happened. Who needs to work right now, I will just watch this now to make up for not seeing it during lunch.
Loved the video ! I never thought that I would see the day but ... Yesterday I bought a BMM. And I must say that even with 1000 SCUs I will be happy with it as long as it retain it's bazaar section. Especially if you consider that it will require a fraction of the cost of operating a Privateer as you stated. Great "little" ship and great addition to my personal fleet ! Thanks for the video man. Now ... The wait begins !
Still trying to see how they have the cargo be five times more than the kraken which is substantially larger even with an increase in size. The merchant man would need to in my estimate double or triple in size at the bare minimum which would essentially make it the poor man’s capital ship for $350. Also the most common capital ship in the universe which is ironic considering the lore. Either that or the privateer cargo hold will increase to 5000 and the base model to 10,000. Too many conflicting reports I have one video where they say no it will drastically decrease because it is impossible and another video of them saying no it’s going to keep two statistics that we already said is from an old system and outdated. I have both. But if it stays with the old statistics it obsoletes a $1700 capital ship with ease. It has landing pads… that’s it that is the only difference.
It actually didn’t need to grow, based on the cross section calculations of the ship at 150m length it can hold nearly 4000scu without growing. This was confirmed by John Crewe in a recent vid.
I nabbed a warbond kraken privateer when they were available (the warbond ones really wouldn't sell compared to the upgrades and non warbond options and I was willing to splurge tbh) and honestly it's probably going to be a lot more work balancing the books for it, but at the same time you can sell a lot more different products, and diversity in what you sell brings in more buyers. I honestly will be having a lot of fun with it.
The big problem I see with the Merchantman down the line is that it probably will be one if not the most targeted ship for boarding Pirates. If you think about it.. -it´s likely to carry valuable/rare cargo or a big amount -will probably often be flown by understaffed crews & minimal escorts -It probably needs to travel to remote/unsave areas to maximise it´s profits -it´s a huge alien ship and therefore probably worth a lot of credits on the black market if captured. Not much stopping a torpedo boat + emp fighters to take down the shields from afar and disable the thing. You´d need multiple escorts to feel reasonably save.. I do have one and hope I will be wrong :/
Been a while since I've been able to check on you. You mention the thing that entertains much laughter. It exploded when I saw the Polaris on sale. "I'll have this ship and win" Most of these people eluded to being 'lone wolf' I think a lone wolf shouldn't get much bigger than a Cutty Black. Cuz if my time on EvE online taught me, Just because you got it, can fly it, and use it...doesn't mean you should.
This so much. I'm trying to acquire an Idris for my corp, but I'll still stick to my 600I most of the time I fly solo because you can't fly a ship like that solo. You just can't. There's too much to do, and yes, NPCs could help to a limited degree but they'll never be as responsive to orders and input as other humans, and in a fight against another ship of similar capabilities this is going to be the deciding factor. Not who has the marginally bigger guns or marginally stronger Shields, but *who can employ them more effectively*. And it damn sure won't be the guy with the AI.
Thanks for the vids. As though we all knew what we were getting into when some of us bought the Merchantman, the conversion from FU to SCU combined to the uncertainty of the mentionned mechanics still hits hard ;_;
I agree. That 3500 SCU really added a lot of value to the BMM, hearing it is going to be cut significantly hurts. Hopefully as compensation we will get something in the form of speed, maneuverability or firepower. I still remember the parts where they said the Banu used the BMM as ships of war and blockade runners. Would kind of like to see a little of that come back if we are losing 1000 SCU.
This discussion actually makes me want for a medium-ish market vessel. Something in the Freelancer to Constellation size range, with just 2 to 4 shops on board.
Actually, it would be cool if you could just set up shop in area's that might be momentarily interesting - like i.e. a small Titan, trading out from its back entrance. Sort of a Medieval Merchant, but in the future lol :D
@@ReallyDazed "It would also divert too much attention to why the MM and privateer exist." Not necessarily. Although to avoid that, it would have to be mechanically different. Both the BMM and Privateer are built around maintaining multiple NPC-operated shops. So, why not make a smaller merchant vessel focused more around running a single player-run shop? Something that you can load up with goods you find during your travels that you can sell at a single location. Heck, even in the Stanton System alone, you have to run all over the place to find equipment for ship builds, ground setups and the like, so someone could do that themselves, buy parts in bulk, and then set up shop over at one of the moons of ArcCorp or Hurston and profit off of being a marked-up one-stop shop for all your equipment needs. And people who don't want to bother running all over the system themselves will be willing to pay a bit extra for the convenience.
@@VestedUTuber Until CIG decides to actually make a single-shop-ship. I'll still believe in what I said. Its either regular ports, towns, floatillas, and cities, or you go to privateers and bmms.
Great video, and I agree that bigger isn't always better. I couldn't imagine trying to keep up with the upkeep of a Capital sized ship. I love that the Merchantman is smaller and more mobile.
Brilliant evaluation. Looking forward to seeing players establishing this level of complexity and continuity. People would be doing this already in EVE IF they only had conceived the beauty of its realization. Here's to the merchantmen!
I can see new landing pads being built, not hangars, for larger/capital size ships Specifically for the BMM and Kraken like ships Have a tram stop and everything Greycat rental/asop terminals Wouldn’t be that hard to setup, other than the artwork
I have the BMM in my account. When the game finally comes out, I'll grind as much as possible in my BMM so that I can afford the Kraken Privateer. I'll have dedicated pilots, petty officers, admirals etc.
Imagine a mining version of this, which you could park in orbit above a popular mining location, allowing players to use your refinery and stock up on modules without making the long trip back to an L1 or L2. You set the markup for refining, and the markup on the mining modules and heads, etc. That would be huge for mining ORGs. What you charge the miners could be the ORG's part of the profits, and the players could keep the rest. Also any other nearby players could make use if it as well, maximizing the loads they can gather before they have to head back.
I hope the BMM has a slaver mod so that you can hold bounties and you can use it to transfer them from other ships and make it a bounty hunters mobile base of sorts. And with the Banus slave markets it would be lore correct.
BMM is the only ship I own, I really hope they do it justice. Also I hope it will have at least around 1k usable scu, cuz I fear most will be reserved for shops. Either way even it earns lot less than expected it's still an exotic alien ship and it's simply plain cool and IMO that's the most important thing playing any game - to have fun :D
It should have 3500 SCU as they already downsized it once, and given that a cheaper ship like the Orion now is bigger than it to "fill" it's role then the BMM needs to big enough to do the same.
My BMM will be a space-faring brothel. My escorts will be from all walks of life and planets of origin. Citizens will be greeted by my escorts Cinnamon and Destiny, two lovely Vanduul women of large frame, to the vice selling terminals and maybe for some fun times in the corporate lounge.
I find myself looking forward to a Law of the West video with as much hope and anticipation as a I do for a Star Citizen update. (Maybe a little more, LoTW is always bug free ;). )
LAWoftheWest Gaming, that is a great insight and advice to players. Wonderfully excuted coverage of practical and real possibilities. I was hopeful that I could have NPCs run my Merchant man for me when I can afford one lol I was hoping that I would be free to be an explorer while making money off my NPC run Merchant man. However you are right. It's going to be a long time in development of AI before NPCs act like Players do. Sigh!
Exactly, the Kraken is a capital ship and they are intended to be bought and operated buy orgs when the game launches. There are going to be a lot of butt hurt players that find out the hard way that there are to many large ships and not enough players willing to sit babysitting their ship for them. And on top of that npc's are going to be limited in what they can do and real players will be required to run these ships as CR has already stated.
My original plan for the BMM was to use it as a treasure hunting ship, searching for fancy baubles around the 'verse and sell them off for the amount that I decide, while having a few other shops around to gain some extra UEC, I'm hoping that my dreams haven't been dashed by their decisions...
Love your vids. You make really good points. I’ve gone back and watched all you videos. Help me a lot to decide what ship I want, and never regretted a choice, thanks to you!
Looking forward to both ships! Maybe owning a Merchantman again some day as i got rid of it. I can see myself getting valuable exotic items in it from different corners of The Verse and then selling it elsewhere. Doesn't the Merchantman also have a negotiation room where the owner can show the wares?
I feel like the merchantman will be more adventurous where you can go cargo runs and do trading at the destinations or hot spots on the way between and then restock your stores at the same time, both at space stations and ground locations. The privateer will probably avoid ground locations as much as possible depending on how expensive it'll be for a capital ship to escape gravity, especially locations on planets with high gravity and there for not source it's inventory from the factories where it's (probably) cheapest to restock. That said, since it'll have a lot larger inventory you might consider it being worth it to go down and make a big restock now and then. But overall unless your going to restock or playing taxi for a bunch of small ships you're probably staying in one spot trying to build up a reputation of having good wares and letting all the profits come to you with minimal fuel expenses, you can probably hire some haulers to go do your supply runs for you too if business is blooming in the sector. So it's a bit if you want to focus outwards and be nomadic or inwards and have a small private space station. Both ships weaponry doesn't matter too much since you'll probably avoid conflicts as much as possible in both ships since you have a lot to lose, But if you have a rep of carrying good inventory and prices then probably every respectable person in the sector will come to your defense if someone tries anything.
Experiences like this makes me want to have a little bigger then a snub sized personal transport ship other then the Argo. When having org. Meeting, shopping, ship to planetary objectives, cap ship to cap ship without connecting both ships. 8-10 people with cargo hold on outside like a bush plane or bus. great video. Don’t own either but I will wanna shop or resupply using them. Good to know how they will work for me and crew.
I'd love to see a hybrid model for NPC shops. I'd like to have a choice - either I can hire a human NPC, who works only as a cashier and sells the stuff I stock for them, or a Banu NPC, who would essentially be his own small business and I'm just his landlord. I feel like a mix of the two would be best, so you'd have a certain base reliable income as rent from the Banu NPCs, then you could dictate precisely how much extra you want to make vs. how much effort you want to put into acquiring it for the human NPC shops. This would even make lore sense. As the Banu are a merchant-focused race, they have their own trade-related traditions and practices and it stands to reason they might not allow a human to dictate their stock or pricing. That said, I do feel like this presents a problem. As far as we know, the BMM isn't a carrier. I believe they stated that it will have docking booms on either side, but no landing pads. Since the Defender cannot use docking booms (as it has no port for them), if you want to restock your BMM, you are going to have to either A) take the BMM and leave to go buy more merch to sell or B) use a non-Banu ship like a Freelancer to restock it, which inherently begs the question of how the hell does a Banu captain of a BMM restock his ship? Are we to believe the bazaar packs up and leaves every time one shop sells out, or that the mercantile race is content with cutting so deep into their profits as to leave before everything is sold? It's inefficient and illogical. With the Kraken, this problem is negated. If one shop sells out, you need only take a Caterpillar or Cutlass to go buy more goods, and you can leave the other shops selling while you go. I have no idea if the Kraken has docking booms, but even if it doesn't, a human crew on a Drake ship almost certainly has an Argo MCUV or two lying around and can quickly ferry cargo from the Cat to the Kraken. So, either the BMM is kinda broken in this shop model, or the Banu have a cargo ship we haven't seen yet.
Liked the Merchantman and bought it for $350 with LTI. Then I realized so many people were going to have one and melted enough ships to get the Privateer with store credit. Now I have both.
Ah, but will it be possible to use it as a Q-ship like originally promised during the concept sale? This is the biggest question I have about holding onto mine.
Interesting thing about hangars and landing pads. While largest hangar can fit an Idris, it still can't fit BMM because of wings and ofc Kraken, because of length.
I don't understand the Privateer needing / having 10 shop spaces. 1. Personal Weapons. 2. Armors. 3. Ship Weapons. 4. Ship Systems. 5 Clothing. 6. Food and Drinks. What other shop types are there? Maybe a bar, I suppose, in slot 7.
I think there plenty of shop possibilities. Technically twice as many as i listed at least given each could have a "Black Market" variant. 1- Personal Weapons 2- Ship Weapons 3- Componemts 4- Armors 5- Clothing 6- Rare Materials 7- Curios and Decorations 8- Food, Drink, Liquor 9- Medical Goods 10- Illegal Goods (and thats without splitting thise up too) Then some extra possibilities 11- Small Vehicles 12- Services for Hire 13- Animals and Plants 14- Mapping, Mining, and Survey data/Info Brokering 15- Personal Curations
honestly, the bmm becoming another puny freighter that has stores instead of the merchant family ship that it was originally envisioned, is a real bummer... guess it is an lti token by now...
doesn't matter the definition of familiy, fact is, it was to be the living home of a group of traders that didn't have a permanent base, and they conducted all their trading with it.... which requires a bit more cargo space than your run of the mill freighter that just runs cargo from point a to point b.... they would need to be able to stock up on various goods to meet demand whereever they go. but fine, it's your opinion everything is fine, but that still doesn't invalidate MY opinion that the ship sucks with the changes....
Another Outstanding video. Every time I watch one of your vids, I get motivated to play the game..lol. I waiting for another vid in the style of "Beast of Aberdeen", that one was my favorite. Keep up the good work and Thank You
I built my fleet around the Merchantman. The Merchantman will transport most of my wares to the main trade planet of the system, while i use a Starrunner and a Starlifter to transport wares to the other insystem planets.
You really laid out the reality of owning a capital class ship lol geesh... Thankfully the Endeavor will only requires 3-5 for crew lol.. The Endeavor and Apollo are my most anticipated ships!... The Privateer (or Merchantman) would be a great for the expedionary fleet! (Flotilla) i can't wait to be part of lol.. Having fleet members buying what they need from fleet ships would help maintain the fleet economy.. I absolutely love the aircraft carrier look of the Kraken/Privateer.. The Merchantman is beautiful but I like more human, utilitarian looking ships, and Drake Interplanetary does that look very well.... I always wondered what is the difference between Privateer and Kraken, so this was perfect!... Great video as usual!
You've inspired me to go back and start watching Gundam again, I checked and there's a ton of it that available on HULU, they even have a few Gundam series that I've never seen before. And better yet I check out Netflix and they have the entire Macross TV series as well. Looks like its time to pop the popcorn and do some binge watching next time I have a free weekend. I was hoping that they also had Macros Plus, I remember loving that OAV.
My mention of Gundam and Macross inspired me to restart Gundam Seed then Gundam Seed Destiny lol.. They are my childhood favorite of Gundam franchise because i have my best memories of (from 9 years old to early teens) watching them religiously with my oldest brother as they aired.. I do like Gundam Wing and Mobile Suit Gundam but they are before my time.. Gundam Seed Destiny is where i got my username "Lunamaria" that I use for almost everything online related lol.
I think both ships will have a target on their back in the verse. I can't help but plot on how a 5 man boarding party could enter one of these ships and take it over or disable it from the inside. Or if it were attacked by a group of pirates how well it could defend itself and how far away backup would be
The BMM still have giant guns (3 size 6 and 2 size 5 turrets) that are gonna be a threat to anything between medium and big size ships. Capital ships of course are too powerfull and smaller ships are too zippy, however despite the size increase, the BMM retains enough front fire power to be a blockade runner. I would be very surprised if any BMM captain would stand still long enough to be EVA'd in, and if one is careless enough to let his lift down or his ship's power on while they're away, then they deserve to be hijacked! All in all, the BMM will be, i believe, not an easy prey. As for the Kraken, any captain that flies his without extensive escort deserves to be hijacked as well...
@@MonteKristof Im not really worried about its guns, it is 3 times the length +5 times the width 4 times the height of a Connie. It isn't going to be easy to get those guns on target against something like a cutlass or free lancer. Plus who is going to want to idly sit by and man those turrets
@@MonteKristof Imagine a boarding party where you get hit by a torpedo and your shields are going down from afar and then EMP ships zipping in and disabling your craft. Nothing much you can do about that with your big guns in a big ship... that´s what worries me most for future ventures in the BMM
@@norko6883 To be fair, that's an issue with every big ship in game! If that (understandable) worries you, maybe stick to large-ish, or medium ships who are faster and maneuver more easily?
@@MonteKristof true that, but additionally to other big ships it is alien an therefore pretty rare and expensive on the black market probably. Also I know a lot of people who want to pretty much solo their BMM with NPC´s
a way they can balance big cargo haulers vs smaller ones, like constillation vs c2 hercules, is that the constillation can maybe carry heavier and more value on cargo, whilst c2 carries quantity but lower value, the c2 will still get more money, but not so absurdly much more like it is now. or that the constillation can go to more high risk buyers where it is beeing swarmed by pirates. something needs to be done reguardless
also one down side to a Kraken is its speed, we still do not have any info on it, but judging by reclaimer (100m/s at max 892m/s) that is almost the same length as BMM and pioneer (as the only capital ship that has some info about speed on its page being stated 85m/s with no max speed stated that will most likely take a nose dive in future and being 70m shorter that Kraken) i guess Krakens speed will be really slow and it will be just a practice target for ships like Ares inferno and others even not "capital killers". Meaning that BMM has more chances to take part in the fight and even survive with minimum amount of help on the side while Kraken will have to travel with escort bigger than most of corporations will be able to afford on regular basis which will have a negative impact on profits as either more people are involved or the ship will be destroyed or boarded more often. Pure fire power and bigger components cant be taken into account here with out considering manoeuvrability as you need to avoid attacks and reposition yourself for being able to use the given fire power in order to take part in the fight. For example if your ship has a giant size whatever fixed mega canon and enemy fighters just avoid going in front of you while your manoeuvring speed is definitely much slower than theirs it renders your gun worthless in this fight even if it potentially can one shot them as you wont even shoot it. Similar point may be maid against turrets even though they compensate the fact that you are slow there still will be blind spots and even more of them if you can afford a full team to man all the turrets In short Kraken has one big problem of being a capital ship compared to BMM being a large ship, it is the fact that it will be more desired target for an attack if it is not protected and if it is protected it will lower the profits
I started playing a month ago and I've been following the past citizencons and I've never heard of these 2 ships. When are they coming out? And by the way great video. Well done! Subbed
No release date as of yet, so expect a few years at least. And with them now spreading the ship team out over more ships in 2020, you will see more of them on the road map but they will take longer to make.
Banu Merchantman has a chance of coming late this year/next year as they brought the Banu defender in as a style guide for this purpose. I would expect however most of the larger ships are going to go into earnest development after SQ42 release as many of the ship pipelines are currently occupied making the larger ships for that title like all the Vandu’ul ships.
Yes I built a titan class ship in another game and it was a lot of running all the time. I blue printed and when game wiped never built it back lesson learned. I like smaller one
The kraken is my ships of choice tbh I'll probably buy a BMM one day but I love the idea of the priv and using it as a space station pr mobile base for me and my friends
Already see myself resupplyying an OrgMembers Privateer... Fill up the Kraken at launch, refill it with corsairs and Cutlasses when in Space, Prices will be a little higher, of course, as I would want to make atleast a small Profit, But this ship, allows for so much more gameplay than an 890 etc...
Imo, the privateer would be best used as a way to start your own colony. Find a place to build a home Land privateer Boom now you have a store front to bring business to your colony.
One question. On the viability on the krak private over the merch which was the usage of the gates between systems. Do you think the merchantman might be at another advantage as its smaller size could make it easier system to system jumping? If CIG decides to add another in depth aspect to the gate gameplay loop which knowing them Im sure of. XD
If I am in the captain seat all by my lonesome, in a Cat or a Merch which one will offer me the greatest chance of survival.? Guns and maneuverability are in mind. Thanks again for the great story telling.
All alone, I'd put my money on the Merch. It's supposed to be a blockade runner, and more maneuverable than ships of its size. Plus, the Cat has about as many weapons as a drinking fountain when solo.
@@blacksheepboyz Well, the ship page marks it as having 4 size 6 slots available, with 3 filled by Unannounced weapons, and so far all concept ships have kept their concept weapons. As for leaving the atmosphere, it might leave faster considering its a blockade runner, but I have no proof to say that the Cat wouldnt beat it out of atmo.
So while I agree with how nice it would be to land the merchantman in a hanger and open up shop, won't that just clog up the available landing locations for other players and make the station toss your ship in storage? I've also wondered about that in relation to the loading/unloading times for larger cargo ships. Like will my MAX be stored mid load and just end up being a pain in the ass?
I hope there will be a less industrial or alien contestant which is around as large as the Merchantman. I like the design and interior of both the BMM and the privateer but I would prefer a more kind of a luxury variant by RSI or origin. Anyways thanks for the vid. Even though I won't buy myself such an expensive ship I still liked your video a lot. If I were to buy such ships in SC it would now be the BMM.
I stopped playing 3.8 due to all bugs, crashes and money loosing meta. Everytime I watch LoTW content though it itches in me fingers to get back to the verse. Thanks for your always pro content brother keep em coming
Yeah same, lost 300k in one run so I'll just wait for 3.8.1. Hopefully it will be more stable and fix exploits so there won't be any wipes soon after it.
I would bet money on the merchant man becoming bigger personally. Normally I would say that they would downsize the merchant man a little and release a larger banu ship, but the lore is so entrenched at this point I believe it is more likely that they will do the reverse. I expect the banu to have a 600i sized ship dedicated to flea markets and that the merchant man will likely be scaled up to a captial class vessel because of the lore. I am not saying this because I want it to be that big, just that I don't expect it to remain at the same size it is now.
lostsanityreturned hmmm. Personally I think the reverse. Making it larger would necessitate it being waaaaay more expensive. I think it’s more likely they make it smaller and bring out the Banu Galleon which is capital size and $1500
I'm kind of hoping that the Merchantman outclasses the Privateer. I say that because the Banu are a mercantile civilization, so it would make sense that the Merchantman would excel at trade and more importantly, Commerce. And when outside of special systems, I can see them being more open to selling illegal goods that don't require an invitation to a back room, unlike the Privateer. More of a first come first serve kind of deal. But it is too early to tell. Hopefully CIG don't change the ship too much because I feel like if it turns out to be objectively worse than the Privateer, then that is just going to upset a large number of people who've been looking forward to this ship since its original pitch in 2013.
Personally I am gonna use my Kraken OG version like the Privateer. I like larger cargo of the OG version more. There was a big issue that I had with the Privateer and that is personally I dont like the idea of random people on my ship. Too many trolls in the verse and I feel someone will shot up everything inside or someone is gonna ram it knowning there is a lot on it. With the OG version it will draw a tad less attention and I can still allow people to land but inside I want to be able to transfer goods just straight out of my massive cargo hold to ther person. That way I can manage things a bit more directly than having randoms running around. Personally I have a BMM and gonna keep it at that scale if I actually ever use it. The BMM is gonna get such a large cargo nerf that it might almost might become useless since I am expecting like 100 SCU BMM and rest SCU just for the shops like the Kraken Privateer. Great video with great info.
I like both, but I'm curious to know, which of the two ships is preferred by most people. Comment below 👇 with : 👽 for the MERCHANTMAN or with 🏴☠️ for the KRAKEN
I like that my BMM won't have a gun rack........ she gets a gun store :)
Just the one?
Variety ,is, the spice of life.
Have one for commercial sales and an "exclusive" shop for more "discerning" clientele.
Honestly, I like the idea of the Banu Merchantman. I'm just thinking of shipping stuff to remote worlds and setting up shop to supply the locals with stuff they don't get locally.
The Privateer sounds like it's more like running a business, and focused on large systems.

CIG needs to update ship info on the website and give us info on changes as soon as possible so people can make informed purchases and not feeling screwed over(both old and new players).
You can "melt" purchases and get a different pledge at almost no cost, so if you regret something you still have lots of choices
Cutlass Red.... I googled it and everything said respawn medical bed. But now it only heals.
Oh hey a new vid the same day i found this channel, I'm watching these while downloading the game. Oh and I love your voice man.
Yeah, and he seems to be pretty sweet as well.
One other thing to consider, jump point availability. I understand the capital sized jump points will be more limited than large jump points. This will limit the Privateer's mobility as well.
Jump points have always been a concern for me seems just like a big neon sign saying come take my stuff
I am in love with the idea that CIG is creating the elements for players to create their own stories with, ad that you can extrapolate what will be possible
with the kinds of ships they lay the foundation with.
Now that CIG guaranteed that it's capable of holding 2880scu,wonder how u feel now😂
@@lan3384 Wonderful. And don't forget the Medbay that was not in the original! 🎉
Thanks for this, currently already own a BMM and cant wait to start my trades and nomad'ing :)
BMM has grown! The cargo capacity of the concept has been kept!!
-it´s likely to carry valuable/rare cargo or a big amount
-will probably often be flown by understaffed crews & minimal escorts
-It probably needs to travel to remote/unsave areas to maximise it´s profits
-it´s a huge alien ship and therefore probably worth a lot of credits on the black market if captured.
Thanks for the vids. As though we all knew what we were getting into when some of us bought the Merchantman, the conversion from FU to SCU combined to the uncertainty of the mentionned mechanics still hits hard ;_;
i'll be happy as long as it has around 1800-3000 scu :)
Sort of a Medieval Merchant, but in the future lol :D
i think this it impossible. Shop just wont fit inside.
@@onik7000 Not to mention how unsafe it will be. It would also divert too much attention to why the MM and privateer exist.
@@ReallyDazed
"It would also divert too much attention to why the MM and privateer exist."
Not necessarily.
I can see new landing pads being built, not hangars, for larger/capital size ships
Specifically for the BMM and Kraken like ships
Have a tram stop and everything
Greycat rental/asop terminals
Wouldn’t be that hard to setup, other than the artwork
Considering how the BMM has grown recently, i think the difference between the two is gettin far slimmer.
Great video. I just CCUed into a Merchantman days before the Privateer was announced. LOL
@@-JustHuman- BMM will have space only for 1140 SCU.
@@HideO-Z No. My comment was made 3 years ago the state page has been updated to the new numbers after the whitebox. The cargo is 2880 SCU.
@@-JustHuman- Oh ok.
I am in LOVE with the Privateer. Must get one!
(Maybe a little more, LoTW is always bug free ;). )
I wonder will the BMM have a Med bay.
A Ship that is going to have lots of people around shopping should have one
It's confirmed that it will now that it's been reworked.
Your explanations make a lot of sense
love the way he sounds fmd
this kind of video really hype me up about the game and i love it.
I feel the kraken will be great right outside jump points like a gas station between systems.
LAWoftheWest Gaming, that is a great insight and advice to players. Wonderfully excuted coverage of practical and real possibilities.
I was hopeful that I could have NPCs run my Merchant man for me when I can afford one lol
I was hoping that I would be free to be an explorer while making money off my NPC run Merchant man.
However you are right.
It's going to be a long time in development of AI before NPCs act like Players do. Sigh!
Let's talk about the real vs that matters most here. $1600 vs $350.
hopefully when the game launches (when ever that is) that wont matter anymore
Exactly, the Kraken is a capital ship and they are intended to be bought and operated buy orgs when the game launches. There are going to be a lot of butt hurt players that find out the hard way that there are to many large ships and not enough players willing to sit babysitting their ship for them. And on top of that npc's are going to be limited in what they can do and real players will be required to run these ships as CR has already stated.
I hope that the ingame Prices will somewhat relate to the RealWorldMoney, so that a merchantman will not be more expensive than a Kraken...
@@tobedone4079 I dont see how a merchantman could possibly be more expensive than a kraken
@@dukoth6552 they could possibly make it harder to get the bmm/defender by requiring some sort of reputation grind or something like that.
My original plan for the BMM was to use it as a treasure hunting ship, searching for fancy baubles around the 'verse and sell them off for the amount that I decide, while having a few other shops around to gain some extra UEC, I'm hoping that my dreams haven't been dashed by their decisions...
Man, I love your videos! So in depth! Thanks bro!!!
Thanks for a very attractive narration. It is a pleasure to listen. Keep it up.
BMM update:"Hey hey hey... looks whose back... now GET OFF OF MY CUSTOMERS "! SIZE 8's: "COO-DUNK"!
Great Episode I have a Merchantman and glad I saw your perspectives.
I got the carrack and LTI, Absolutely a upgrade when it is relesed. It speaks to me on so manny level's the Merchantman do.
That thing about the Fu and scu i never heard about. Thanks for the info
It is incorrect. The value listed for the BMM is in SCU and is accurate.
Cool RE upload. That last attempt went poopoo.
Interesting thing about hangars and landing pads. While largest hangar can fit an Idris, it still can't fit BMM because of wings and ofc Kraken, because of length.
That privateer looks amazing, I’d be using the market but also I’d be RPing a ton because it looks like a space aircraft carrier!
1- Personal Weapons
2- Ship Weapons
3- Componemts
4- Armors
5- Clothing
6- Rare Materials
7- Curios and Decorations
8- Food, Drink, Liquor
9- Medical Goods
10- Illegal Goods (and thats without splitting thise up too)
Then some extra possibilities
11- Small Vehicles
12- Services for Hire
13- Animals and Plants
14- Mapping, Mining, and Survey data/Info Brokering
15- Personal Curations
honestly, the bmm becoming another puny freighter that has stores instead of the merchant family ship that it was originally envisioned, is a real bummer... guess it is an lti token by now...
doesn't matter the definition of familiy, fact is, it was to be the living home of a group of traders that didn't have a permanent base, and they conducted all their trading with it.... which requires a bit more cargo space than your run of the mill freighter that just runs cargo from point a to point b.... they would need to be able to stock up on various goods to meet demand whereever they go.
but fine, it's your opinion everything is fine, but that still doesn't invalidate MY opinion that the ship sucks with the changes....
Wow
Both very cool ships in their own ways. Thanks for the info, LAW!
I can imagine scouting runs to keep aware of larger threats or cutlasses patrolling around the ship itself.
Love these videos. Keep up the awesome work!
Some great points! I love your format!
a way they can balance big cargo haulers vs smaller ones, like constillation vs c2 hercules, is that the constillation can maybe carry heavier and more value on cargo, whilst c2 carries quantity but lower value, the c2 will still get more money, but not so absurdly much more like it is now. or that the constillation can go to more high risk buyers where it is beeing swarmed by pirates. something needs to be done reguardless
That's not balanced though, a significant bigger cargo ship should be making a lot more money than a smaller one
also one down side to a Kraken is its speed, we still do not have any info on it, but judging by reclaimer (100m/s at max 892m/s) that is almost the same length as BMM and pioneer (as the only capital ship that has some info about speed on its page being stated 85m/s with no max speed stated that will most likely take a nose dive in future and being 70m shorter that Kraken) i guess Krakens speed will be really slow and it will be just a practice target for ships like Ares inferno and others even not "capital killers".
Similar point may be maid against turrets even though they compensate the fact that you are slow there still will be blind spots and even more of them if you can afford a full team to man all the turrets
In short Kraken has one big problem of being a capital ship compared to BMM being a large ship, it is the fact that it will be more desired target for an attack if it is not protected and if it is protected it will lower the profits
Thanks Law. Love your vids. You're the best!
As per usual, great video. Regardless of what people say, BMM for life!
Great Video, I am really enjoying your channel.
I bought the bmm the kraken or the privateer is my in game goal amazing vid
Imo, the privateer would be best used as a way to start your own colony.
Find a place to build a home
Land privateer
Boom now you have a store front to bring business to your colony.
@@seancombs1188 you think it will keep the guns for the pilot and leave an atmosphere as well as a cat?
@@blacksheepboyz Well, the ship page marks it as having 4 size 6 slots available, with 3 filled by Unannounced weapons, and so far all concept ships have kept their concept weapons. As for leaving the atmosphere, it might leave faster considering its a blockade runner, but I have no proof to say that the Cat wouldnt beat it out of atmo.
@@seancombs1188 I wonder if it will cost the same to fly as the cat?
So while I agree with how nice it would be to land the merchantman in a hanger and open up shop, won't that just clog up the available landing locations for other players and make the station toss your ship in storage? I've also wondered about that in relation to the loading/unloading times for larger cargo ships. Like will my MAX be stored mid load and just end up being a pain in the ass?
Now that we got a big update on the BMM recently, maybe time to do an update video now that they are both about the same size
The BMM goes where the market is, the Privateer makes the market go to him
I hope there will be a less industrial or alien contestant which is around as large as the Merchantman.

I think it’s more likely they make it smaller and bring out the Banu Galleon which is capital size and $1500
Master Blaster, Whaaat?
TIL: my computer background is the BMM. It is at 1:16
currently I'm waiting for my Carrack, but I already know what I`ll get for next christmas :)
I will just have to get both to really understand the differences in their applications. :D
BMM may be able to use medium jump points. Logistics are important.
Transfer of cargo ship to ship is said to be a feature of Kraken with that center tram for cargo.
I like both, but I'm curious to know, which of the two ships is preferred by most people. Comment below 👇 with :

Patiently waiting for BMM.
You're in depth analysis is outstanding 👍
They should make Banu MM cargo transporting as a primary goal instead of a mobile shop.
