    I'd love to see a "Trick" Hull that has little to no cargo hauling capabilities, but instead has weapons mounted on the cargo struts to ambush other players.

      yup..dummy cargo pods that open up to cans of whoop ass to ambush pirates with, sounds good. The vid author totally ignores that they will be modules that replace cargo space....Most players will be running a few of these pop out modules because we already know how much a grief fest open play will be from experience with Elite. This will allow a Hull C or D to totally blow a Merchantman to pieces with enough investment.

    The Hull C has such an awesome design that even though its an unlikely feature, I wish we could customize ships to make them function not like what they were originally built for. Just like the Millennium Falcon originally being a freight ship, I just want to turn the Hull C into a blockade Runner type ship, remove the extending cargo arms and weld the two halfs together and add more thrusters around the ship to make it more agile and add more guns to it

    It'll be nice to see if these cargo ships carries container pods. Players can buy container pods and make their own base on any planet suited to their taste. Larger ships will probably only run small/cheap cost goods that are used in bulk, while high cost goods will most likely be run by smaller trade ships like freelancer Max’s, I’d rather spread 50 million of goods around 10 ships then 50 million of goods in one.
      (Plus since amount of goods + profit margin will make up for high cost goods+ profit it just doesn’t make since for people to run high risk, pirates will want the easy to move stuff then the bulk stuff. )

    I used to want the Hull C really badly because I want to specialize in trading. But then I went over the MM again and suddenly it clicked so to say. As the ship will more or less be my home in the verse the sacrifice in cargo capacity seem really negligible when you think of all the extras the MM has to offer over the Hull. When I realized this the choice became really easy. I see the Hull series as more of an asset to organisations and not as a ship that is meant to be an indiviual's focus if you know what I mean. I go for the MM and a Carrack. These two basically represent everything I'll ever need in the verse... besides upgrades... and lots of cash^^

Human players are likely to be more efficient but hey, train your NPC crew and they'll get getter and better

    • @IronPhysik

      thing is, in a fair comparison the BMM would be stacked up against the Hull D or even Hull E
      because the BMM is ~ 500 USD, thats more than twice of the price of the Hull c, 150 USD over the Hull D and 150USD under the Hull E
      and well.. compared to the Hull D the BMM overall is worse, it has 1/6 of the cargo capacity and the larger Hull D has most likely similar space for the crew compared to a BMM
      (its a over 200m long ship)

    Great video!
    I have a BMM/Defender, and don't ever plan on letting it go.
    However, I just wanted to point out that the Endeavor can hold 500 cargo in the Command Module, and the hangar bay can hold 4500 more (at half capacity, so potentially more?)
    "you’d be able to add roughly 4500 additional SCU of cargo to the ship if you used half of the available space in the Landing Bay (with the remaining space being used to enable a Cutlass to land/take-off with that cargo.)"
    MM can land on planet, so there's that advantage.
    Hull C can't.
    Endeavor's Command module can bring down 500 SCU at a time.
    I also like how much more functional capability the Endeavor has.

    The biggest thing that bothers me about the Hull series is the huge retro thrusters located at the front of the ship. Just like riding a bike, you don't slam on the front break when all the weight is behind the point of pressure or you end up sideways and balled up in the street. The thrust reverses on the Hull series needs to be behind the center of mass at the back of the ship to prevent from breaking the whole ship in half under it own weight and momentum when trying to slow down.

    Something that I dont think was mentioned about the Merchantman in regards to how fast you can travel in a fleet - The Defender was said to have some kind of companion interaction with the BMM. Its sounding more and more like the Defenders are able to dock to it in order to piggyback on the BMM's faster quantum speed from its larger drive. The tail thing that hangs down under the ship when its in flight seems to hint that this may act as an attachment point.

    Something many might forget is that the cargo hold the banu have, might also be used for rental shops inside. So the actually used cargo for the owner of the ship could be a lot less then you might think. Not sure how many rental shops you can have in the banu, but say if each shop has 600 storage units, your personal storage isn't that high to haul cargo.
    Hull-c is strictly cargo hauling while banu gives the owner more of an option what they want to do.

    RS should make a freighter to junction space station to their planet.
    With the amount of cargo a hull series can bring in one time, the station will maybe not be able to store much if there is multiple hull. Small transport will just not be sufficient to unload the station n time, so a barge dedicated for atmospheric entries with huge load of cargo, no or small weapon etc would do the job

  • @Shaderox
    @Shaderox 4 года назад

    So in conclusion, IF one is ONLY into hauling and doesn't want the smaller crew size of the smaller hull series or bigger capacity of the larger, then Hull C is the right choice, otherwise the Merchantman is better in pretty much every aspect, which is better in every regard except a bit less cargo space.. but since it CAN land and source it's cargo from planetside locations where it's probably cheaper than stocking up from a station so the difference in how much they make from a single run might not be very different + however much you can make from the onboard market.
    And for both i find the "need to hire ai crew" argument a bit on the "ok.. but, economy is what the ships do." side, you already make the money to pay them just using the ship, and you likely don't need as many specialized, well trained and expensive NPCs as you would if you hired NPCs to crew a combat vessel where it's a matter of life or death, and there's no inherent income from just flying the ships. So generally for ships that just need everyday workers and which purpose is to make money, the "need to hire a crew" is less of an issue.
    And if you asked a friend, someone in ones org or just some bored strangers "hey, would you like to go on (unpaid/underpaid) adventures in my Hull-C" or "hey, would you like to go on (unpaid/underpaid) adventures in my Merchantman", guess what most people would pick.

    i went with a Hull B and can't wait until docking is implemented so they can be built. The shield tech will cause cargo to not be protected, as it will wrap around the ship armor and not the entire ship. Since the armor will not be in the middle section the cargo will be exposed.

    With as little as we know about the BMM, other than what's concrete about it, like its role and fluff, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets even bigger and can carry more cargo by the time we actually get our hands on it. I'm really not a fan of the Kraken being able to carry as much cargo as it, AND have landing pads, personally. I really hope it gets more than 1 remote turret, too, but the time it comes out. I'm very curious to see what size shield generator it gets, my money is on either two Large, or one Capital, since the Banu do like to have the best stuff.
    Regardless, I absolutely love the BMM, and I was lucky to buy mine when I did, since I got it the last time it was available before the price increase :)

    • @lawofthewestgaming
      @lawofthewestgaming  4 года назад +1

      I did find out something interesting when researching the BMM. it's 3584 cargo capacity was measured in Freight units and not SCU's like it's currently being listed as on the ship matrix. So when they actually make it, that number is either going to be greatly nerfed, or the ship is going to have to be upgraded to capital class in size in order to accommodate for carrying that much cargo. I'm hoping they end up making it bigger so it can be more of a competitor to the Privateer. Either way, it'll be interesting to see which way they end up going with it.

    • @hansyolo8277
      @hansyolo8277 4 года назад

      @@lawofthewestgaming Wow, I did not know that. I'm with you, I hope they make it bigger. Every time we've gotten news about the BMM it seems that it keeps getting bigger, so I think that's the way its going to go. Something tells me it's going to be closer to $600 when we finally get our hands on it

    Great work.! Always enjoy your content. The only thing that I don't like is what your views are with the SRV. I really don't think that ships marketed and sold with the ability to land on planets should now need to hire another ship to aid with that. Is a HUGE slap in the face to backers, like myself, who have contributed significantly.

    I love my Merchantman and it's not even available yet. That said, I am scared to death of it. It's going to be expensive to crew and protect. So much so that I don't think I will be able to take it out on day one. But when overhead is covered then it could be a huge moneymaker. I already see the BMM being something I can use for cargo hauling, mercantilism and smuggling. I also think as a long haul and somewhat luxurious ship it can be used as a VIP transport. I am hoping that there will be a VIP Stateroom in the ship for just this purpose. I am also hoping for some kind of minor medical and/or repair facility. When I say this I am thinking about how the Carack has so much swiss army knife function packed into it for deep space exploration. I don't expect the BMM to become a deep space explorer, but I do think it will be a deep space trader. The Banu board this ship and travel for years at a time buying and selling commodities. Surely they planned for the event that they get hurt or break something.

    • @hudsonsmith8880
      @hudsonsmith8880 5 лет назад

      It will most likely be expensive to crew but the weaponry on board should do a pretty job at protecting against small to medium pirate attacks. I don't think its really meant to be a luxurious ship though and I think its more focused on the cargo capacity and weaponry than the facilities. Maybe it will have like a small medical bay you would think.

      It's going to be fun to find out. Way back when, during an interview with the artist who was working on the defender, he said that they're going to try and create some kind of synergy between the two ships. But what form that's going to take was still being debated on. It sounds like they're going to try and push for some kind of ability for the two ships to dock in some way, maybe even like how the Merlin docks with a Connie, but in the end nothing's definite at this time. I'm hoping that we'll get some more info on this when the defender's released in 3.7
