I know if I saw a combat group with 1 Polaris, 1 Perseus, and 4 Connie's coming at me I would probably crap my pants.
Very late to the reply as I just found this video but I 100% agree. My org's fleet of 'line ships' consists of 2 Perseus, 1 Polaris, 1 Hammerhead and 1 Carrack (the Carrack to operate as AWACs, sensor support, and to assist the Hammerhead). We figure that with this set up it will allow us a chance to punch way above our weight class if push comes to shove.
Perseus and Hammerhead seem like a great combo for a smaller fleet. If you don't have the huge numbers to crew a massive armada, you've got one set of huge guns with little worries and a ship bristling with turrets to mop up fighters.
For me. If you choosing based on strength of the ship, the Polaris. If you are choosing based on the crew you can field, the Perseus, cos you can fire every weapon on 3-4 Perseus with the crew it takes for 1 Polaris.

@James Stewart perseus can stay +10km range from idris while bombarding it. From that range, idris wont be able to hit perseus because that boomstick projectile is quite slow.
@IOwOI 1 v 1? The Idris wins 11 out if 10 fights against a Perseus. Perseus won't dent a fully fledged Capital ship. Not if the capital is captained by a half competent player.
@@captainharlock3998 But that's the whole point of the Perseus is to actually go and take on a capital class ship. It's is extremely armored so even if there were a few fighters on it while it was firing on the Idris it would take a long time to do some decent damage that and there are the size 3 turrents to help take on those fighters and deter those fighters. I'd say it's 70/30 fight leaning towards the Idris but the Perseus will definitely be able to take on some capitals but not without a challenge.
Great stuff dude! I picked up a Perseus during IAE...but I think the Polaris is my dream ship for late game exploration/patrol and colony defense! Thanks for the videos, they're super fun! :D
I don't even understand why they're being compared to begin with. You could man a Hammerhead and a Perseus (Two ships smaller, and cheaper to run) with the same amount of crew a Polaris demands and have a better security net for your operations than just having one Polaris, not to mention the Polaris being a military capital inherently means it's going to be extremely expensive to operate.
Imagine if they brought out torpedoes that had a personal shield on them giving them abit more survivalbility via the shield needing to be depleted, but might have to have their payload reduced an the cost of them increased. Or if you could use smaller ships like fighters as escorts for the torpedoes that might try an keep pace with them in close range their shield maybe giving some protection till they veer off when the torp gets close to the target.
It would be interesting to see something like being able to destablize a small area of shields with a specific type of weapon, which allows missiles or rockets thru the shield to hit the hull without fully having to deplete the shield, but this would be only for a short period of time before it stabilized once more.
Imagine torpedoes only being visible in the HUD within the 4000 meter range. Giving turret operators only five seconds to lock on and destroy them before impact and the suprise on their face when they realise it was a Polaris firing four of them at once.
Got the full set of "Corvettes" which I intend to use in a small anti-capital "task force". Org gameplay is a prereq 'though Carrack -> Scout Corvette Role: forward scout and target management. Basically this ship can't really fight but can act as a small Command'n'Control ship in the field. The Carrack doesn't have to fight at all so the captain can act as a group leader and direct other vessels in combat. Also the Carrack can launch a shuttle or light fighter (I think the Arrow fits in its hangar), supporting other fighters or defending itself. Hammerhead -> Anti Fighter Corvette (the ship is not a corvette but currently listed as one in the game) Role: screens against fighters and needs to work in tandem with the Perseus. Both ships are grouped with the Polaris. If needed, the Hammerhead can be outfitted to defeat other similar sized vessels including the Perseus by using cannons instead of repeaters or gatlings. Also, if fitted with distortion cannons, the Hammerhead can be used to shut down shields of a hostile target. Depending on its outfit, the Hammerhead can fill different roles but only one at a time. There's no "jack-of-all-trades" loadout. Either anti-shield, anti-ship or anti-fighter, but not all three. Perseus -> Anti Ship Corvette (again: this ship is not a true corvette but may be listed as one in the game) Role: fire support. The Perseus fields four size seven guns and is intented to take out ships of her own size and even above, when used in "wolf packs". However, if used as an escort craft for a Polaris or Idris, the guns will bolster both ship classes fighting capabilities. If an Idris or Polaris is attacked by hostile craft, the Perseus may tackle the attacker with its S7 guns while the Idris / Polaris don't have to turn and won't have to quit their current job. The Perseus is LESS versatile compared to a Hammerhead since turret guns can't be replaced. Polaris -> Anti Capital Corvette (the only true corvette so far) Role: Capital Ship Cracker. Seriously. A Tali or an Exclipse are using S9 torpedoes and a single one is usually enough to destroy a Hammerhead. A couple of them can kill an Idris. The Polaris comes with S10 torpedoes and can fire four of 'em per salvo. I can't imagine what damage a full hit does, but I bet, any Idris won't survive two direct hits despite active shields. The Polaris comes with 28 torpedoes, which means, one can take out 3 Idris frigates in theory and still has torpedoes to spare. Now think of a wolf pack of 'em and you got a serious threat that can and will punch a hole in your fleet if left unattented. That being said, even a small task force as the one I want to use, can take out single capital ships with acceptable cost overhead. Also comes with a hangar for a fighter. "Currency" manpower (cost efficiency) The currency I'm talking about is manpower, as every single player usually has at least one, more often than not multiple fighters and ships and need to be convinved to join a crew instead piloting own fighters. The sum is: 5 (Carrack) + 7 (Hammerhead) + 6 (Perseus) + 9 (Polaris, skeleton crew) = 27. Plus 2 fighter pilots. 29 players for that task force. The Idris, if crewed properly, may have a similar amount of players but is only one ship and comes with less firepower and less versatility per player. However: you also can bring 29 players via bombers and fighters to the field and may have the same result. It's just less cool :)
While I think the point defense can be used against fighters, I think they'll probably be more often used for defending against incoming torpedoes. I think the Perseus will be best-used in conjunction with another sub-cap like the hammerhead (and the polaris, for that matter).
@@tticd Yah the polaris is designed more to be a solo forward observer scout for a fleet while the hammerhead and Persues are support ships. Though I made sure to have me a good base in smaller ships to go make money until either my org gets enough players are we end up merging in with a bigger group for the big ship play. I get a feeling a lot of folks are going to get ships stolen from them by having to few crew to man them.
Awesome video. I went ahead and got both. I am hoping the Polaris is practical enough for me to use on my own with an NPC crew, but I got the Perseus in case the Polaris isn't practical for my primary big ship gameplay.
I'm really curious to see what the Perseus will be like when it comes into the game. At the moment we can only speculate about the design, functionality, armour or firepower of this ship. But I wouldn't be surprised if the final result has some deviations from the concept design.
I never really thought about slaving the Perseus main gun to the pilot - I just assumed a turret that size was going to require a man to operate, but being able to run solo ERT's would be pretty hilarious
Warbond CCU from perseus to Polaris is $25, and it's no longer limited. I kinda wish the perseus was a better ship- it seems so much weaker than the Polaris. The Perseus is probably the coolest looking ship in the game.
I mean, it's role is entirely different though, when comparing to killing big ships sure, but like was said in the video, the persues is a defensive ship.
A task force based around the Polaris I think would ideally include a Hammerhead, two Perseus, a Starfarer Gemini and a Crucible. Load the cargo bays with spare parts, ammo and food/water, and you have a patrol with extreme longevity and no easy counter. The Hammerhead and Polaris each are lethal to fighters, and paired with a Perseus, bombers and any other medium ships can't get close. Anything large can be overwhelmed by the Perseus' smaller torpedoes so the Polaris' Size 10's can knock out at least one shield facing, and then the Perseus' guns tear it up to be finished by the Polaris' next volley, if needed. Add a Liberator carrying a Vulture and a Mole, and you could stay out nearly forever.
Again quick, clean, and all the info I needed with as good an orator as morpholegyst, that makes all the difference in the world jus nice cadence precise pronunciation and enunciation and we'll formated and well organized delivery of information. As a seizure vic there are times I just can't understand what someone is saying but those who are amazing at these skills it's totally different, I have no trouble understanding them and I'm left with understanding instead of a feeling of ineptitude.
bouth the Polaris & Perseus need to have a HH as suport, and a combo of those 3 ships will be an awsome site to see,my is a very small org and the Perseus would be a perfect fit for us ,but still thet is mostly for fleet fights ,but i like bouth ships
Why does a Polaris need a Hammerhead? It already has a l load of S4 turrets on it, plus automated missile turrets. It's more heavily armoured as well. Dragging a Hammerhead along would just be an expensive waste of time.
As you mentioned the Perseus has a long range due to 2 L fuel tanks and a L quantum fuel tank . If you are operating in the outer rim systems, I don't know if large swarms of fighters can get out that far. Besides the Perseus has heavy armor + 2 L shields and I don't see S 3 weapons doing much against that while occupied by auto turrets. The 92 max SCM speed is just standard combat maneuvering speed, not how fast it can go.
I see the perseus more as an anti big ship deterent for your home base thats able to respond quickly to a big threat in a region or indeed act like merchant defense like the hammerhead. And the polaris as a patrol craft for security missions or for locking down a sector. Or wherever you may need it, since it has a lot more versitility.
I enjoy your video! The Perseus feels like a USS Missouri styled for space spaceship to me, which I totally love! I hope it's as pew pew as I think it will be.
Considering the S5 torpedoes of the Perseus, I think they are more of a finishing weapon for physical damage models. Instead of firing them at fighters, or even other large ships as an opening salvo, I see them more as an execution weapon. First you cripple the target with the S7 guns on those turrets. And after the target is crippled by repeated hits on engines, drained shields, damaged components... You fire a salvo of S5 torpedoes into the side of the target, to make sure it doesn't get back into the fight. In contrast, the Polaris torpedoes are its' main weapon. It is designed to launch a deadly nuclear weapons style missile strike against larger targets. Aided by the capital class radar and computer, it should be able to land rather consistent hits on large capital class ships. This sort of firepower will be enough to completely solo the shields of large capital class ships. Cripple those ships systems once shields are down. And deal the finishing blows after they are crippled. Trade-off being, the Polaris is rather squishy for the size it is, being comparable to Perseus and Hammerhead, but having noticeably thinner armor. Instead, relying on devastating salvos of torpedoes, and relatively high speed to hit and run before being critically damaged. The guns on the Polaris are just for defending itself against fighters and bombers. Too small to even dent ships of its' own size. Or at least, that is the design intent. And if we do get physical damage models with armor being a thing, it will play that way. But as of now, torpedoes and guns are just DPS. The large spike damage profile of the torpedo, is not extremely useful until we get to the S9+ classes, and just shelling the target with more guns until it blows up, is the meta. But once ships start physically degrading from being fired, and losing systems as they get damaged. Then you will want missiles and torpedoes to launch at crippled targets, as they are more likely to splash damage the remaining components, as well as cause structural damage that won't be easy to repair during the fight.
The way I see it is the Perseus has point defence turrets that are designed to shoot down missiles and torpedoes. The Polaris can’t shoot down size 7 cannon rounds as they move too quick.
But with far better radar, polaris can always attack first and run away before being scouted with information advantage and faster speed, and polaris have hangar even capable for an eclipse. I don't believe the Perseus could withstand such combo attacks.
thank you for that very clearly expressed contrasting elements between the two ships. I was seriously considering the polaris as what id described as "the useful and well armed 890Jump" (it will likely be 200m long by the end of concept with all those rooms), but in reality it will be a nightmare to crew and a money sink to run. ill stick with my wholly solo-able perseus. Merci beaucoup!
I am actually severely struggling on which of these two to get. Perseus has a cooler bridge design, can easily be crewed, and packs a massive punch for its size! The Polaris is much bigger (I consider this a +), can store ships in a hanger, has actual massive torps, but it takes a ton of people to crew, oh and it also has a medbay! Anyways, I am stuck, don't really want both of them. The current $$ price is just so close to one another that I may just upgrade to the Polaris if given a chance, as I expect its in game cost to be much much more than the Perseus! I hope this video help!
I would go with the Perseus because it requires less crew, I have two other friends that play and we could have fun in that, the medical bed and the landing bay in the Polaris is cool for boarding party gameplay but I don't see our group playing like that often.
How often are we going to need to destroy a cap ship? I agree that the Polaris is better, but the costs to operate need to meet its utility. I think we're going to use the Perseus more often. And this ship pair with the HammerHead is a no go for the major pirate raids.
Do you have any idea how many Capital ships there are in players hands? My Primary organisation has 38 Javelins (including mine) and literally hundreds of Idris and Polaris hulls. I would say the need to kill capital ships both PvE and PvP will be very common if you go looking for it.
Vanguard Harbinger versus Freelancer MIS would be a good way to incorporate missile operator mode into the review in 3.14. Both are about the same weight class, similar pilot controlled firepower, single manned turret, and they differentiate themselves from the rest of their family with added missile capacity.
I was there for that idris fight! I’m excited for when these bigger ships will be usable and when there’s a good reason to have them, the org I’m part of plans to do massive cargo convoys when it’s possible which will generate large amount of income and you will want a security escort cause where there money there’s a pirate that wants it
Great vid, the main thing I don't like with the Polaris is that bridge position, I dont know if targeted destruction will be a thing such as bridge targeting but even if its not I just think it looks a little out of place. the main things I like about the Polaris that is has over the Perseus has are the med bay (hopefully this may change to a limited medical facility) and hanger. I also had to think about crew requirements and the Perseus better suits my solo play style and I just love the style of it, it looks like a futuristic destroyer/battleship with those big ass turrets.
I think the Polaris is going to be highly dependent on the Vulcans for re arming or refueling.... Unless there is a large or capital equivilant of a Vulcan. I think the effectiveness of the polaris will come down to the balance they strike regarding how difficult it is for point defense or counter measures to defeat incoming torpedos
Even though I got a Perseus and while I think the Polirs is nice having the hanger bay and all, but it's more long rang ship compared to the protective gun ship.
I think the Perseus will be the more popular pick, it looks much more traditional, cheaper, easier to maintain and easier to man. And having main firepower relied upon cannons instead of torpedos is definitely what id prefer tbh. Unless torpedos can be remotely controlled eventually
greetings from the guy in the defender who accidentally rammed the idris at the end there o/ was very bummed to miss the explosion and here it is for me, thanks for posting! I wonder how much damage the kamikaze did in the end
How I see the roles of ships rn (exempting their actual roles) Destroyer (main ship of a fleet)- perseus, most numerous of the capital esc class ships in an org. Cruiser (more specialized and stronger ship, capable of handling itself) - polaris Battleship/flagship (head ship of fleet, expensive and strong, maybe a couple in a big org) - javelin Carriers/assult ships (carries fighter/drop ships and large amounts of soldiers/equipment) - I see the kraken being the good carrier in a fleet here with fighters, and the Idris as well altho I personally due to the three ship carrying cap ive heard about the Idris would probably use it like a marine assualt carrier with drop ships instead of fighters. Only a few of these in each org as well Support frigate (also numerous more specialized smaller cap class ship) - the hammerhead for anti-fighter support. Nautilus for mine laying Submarine/anti-cap ship - retaliator, good for popping up and dumping torps, or long range support for a fleet. Medical frigates-endeavor and apollo(altho apollo is a medium ship) Then starfarer for refueling For patrol craft (most numerous multi crew ship not cap or cap esc class) probably connies (personal choice), pilot has guns and two turrets and lot of missles plus snub.
@@SanoSora would help the Idris work as a dedicated assualt ship then, carriers need support but the Idris could probably work alone as part of a marine corp
Yeah, not knowing anything about how the game will actually play in 10-20 years when it (hopefully) reaches something like a soft release, my totally unfounded pie-in-the-sky ideal small-to-medium sized org big ship loadout will be something like a polaris, perseus, and maybe an idris-k if there's enough folks to crew it + npcs, with whatever mix of fighters is appropriate for the job at hand. Possibly 2-3 Arrows if they'll fit in the polaris hangar bay, then maybe a sabre, an eclipse, and a mantis in the idris. Nice mix of torpedos for alpha strike, and heavy guns and lasers for keeping shields on the fritz and maintaining consistent damage on target, while the having a solid number of escort fighters.
Good comparison! But why pick between them when you have both? 🙂 I'll use the perseus as a more relaxed combat vessel, while my polaris will probably be functioning as my org base. Perseus is a very nice ship that fits a more realistic player crew size and still packs a wallop and has good utility with the 50 scu rover bay.
From what we've seen of Size 5's and the Size 6's on the Jav. Plus being S7 Ballistics, they'll have the disadvantage of an ammo counter, but no energy drain, with high alpha. So.. probably punch holes through ships of its size and atleast be capable of aiding larger vessels in cap ship battles. Honestly, with the new mechanics, caps and so forth. With ballistics being high alpha / high ROF with ammo constraints. Yea, my above statement may seem more accurate now, honestly the Perseus is looking more enticing due to its low crew count, yet raw pure focus. Sub-cap upto corvette sized, I don't think you'll want to be hit by four size 7 ballistics. For a sub-cap, thats a pretty insane amount of firepower, yet its likely got a rather low amount of ammo, unless we're able to fill half the cargo hold with more ammo and haul it upto what appears to be the autoloading system.
this is a question i've been asking myself. i have an upgrade from a Perseus to Polaris. I frankly like the Perseus better. The one thing that makes me hesitate is the med bay. it could be so useful
I would have actually preferred if they just got rid of the lower back turret on the perseus and installed a larger torpedobay instead. S5 torps are very tiny, they are the ones that come with the Vanguard Harbinger and Gladiator.
Isn't the Perseus for attacks against medium ships (i.e. smaller than the Persus) and the Polaris for attacks against ships in its own weight class? Like the Perseus, for example.
One of the few reviewers who's come to the realization that it's not the ship it's the number of people it takes that determines it's usefulness. Personally I would say the minimum crew for Perseus is actually four because I think engineering is going to be a major part of gameplay so I'd want to dedicated engineer running around reactivating systems that got disabled by disruptors and so on and so forth, but still if I bring two perseuses to a fight against a Polaris I've brought eight people to fight nine people, and while I think the Polaris is definitely going to kill at least one of the perseuses if not both those size 10 tops are just going to be too dangerous I do think two perseuses could give that Polaris at least a bloody nose. At the end of the day being able to throw several perseuses at a problem is going to be more effective I think than throwing one larger capital ship and so I think you'll see Perseus is a lot operating in two to three ship squadrons to either protect the fleet or for hunting large ships to small Capital ships as a wolf pack.
Kinda missed out on the advantages of having a fighter housed in the Polaris which creates a larger array of dynamic offensive and defensive capabilities. Polaris seemingly underwhelming armor could be subsidized by better shielding equipment. Overall, Between the Perseus and Polaris boils down to effective roles assign. I choose the Polaris as a mobile base where I can move from system to system and do missions with the fighter. Most the crew will be AI/Blade (nonballistic armaments for cost efficiency) while the critical roles will be a skeleton player crew. Just the same if I don't have the crew I can still function with the Polaris. I think my initial go is to make 1MIL UEC and then move on to the next system. Could take a day could take a week. IF I am called to join an organized battle my ship is ready at all times.
I love both, but regarding defense and size, polaris has same shield as perseus with 55m (actually) more. Perseus can be operated with 3 or 3 crew while polaris need more people to at least use turest and fly snub. I hope polaris get a bit more cap with now a lot of subcap ship. Bigger fuel tanks, bigger quantum fuel tank, bigger shield or one large more. Even more if it got bigger. But i love how it look and how versatile it is. Perseus for me is how i would have design a corvette like the polaris. (If polaris sized i would have put hangar/snub bay between turet and main deck) and as an example i wish we had something looking like Brave class destroyer in star conflict as an anvil older corvette thzt fought beside perseus. Upper deck bridge give something more to military ship and as polaris is an hit and run i cant really see why cig put the canopy at the tip of the arriw shape. Strategically speaking a cockpit in the upper slope like cobra, viper etc in elite would have been better to deal with frontal fire of a head on attack. I will still wait them ingame both to decide as they are concept and subject to change both :)
I simply dislike the Polaris look. I find the Perseus look way more appealing, even over an Javelin. In fact I hope there will be a Javelin sized Perseus type of ship. Having those broadside weapons of the Javelin is pretty inefficient.. rather have some large cannons instead of spliting up the firepower.
@@Anvarynn yea I mean I guess some person might like boradside weapon by style. Just historically its going back even further than WW2 XD. Broadside weapons found an end when they just couldnt penetrate the ironclad hulls anymore and it was more efficient to have center mounted large cannons rather covering the weight limit with many small ones. In that way the Idris is a way more modern approach.
@@martinschemmel84 Well Space Bobberts apparently wants this game to be 6DOF WW1/2 Naval Doctrine when it comes to combat, instead of modern day air doctrine where most fights are BVR, quick and done. While I get it, gameplay, fun, w/e 900 years in the future but combat is 70 years backwards, go figure
I'll be honest I still have no clue how the Polaris has a capital class radar yet the Idris doesn't.... xD you would think a sub-carrier frigate would have one of those... love your vids bro :)
I have a Perseus, and I so badly want it to be what they describe it to be, however with its current size and load out, it doesn't stand a chance against any of the ships its intended to be able to go toe to toe with. They say it has tons of armor, great, but i highly doubt that would stop the Polaris size 10 torps. As it stands right now, the only ship it may stand a chance against is the hammerhead. They really need to rework this ship and come up with more optimal use for the bay inside the ship. As it stands now, its a giant open bay that can hold an ursa, but there its space above the 1st deck that is completely unused. I really hope they bump it up in size and add more gatling guns for protection. Most people say this ship compliments other ships which is true, however in its current state, its more viable to just use other ships in this ones place.
It's meant to go after sub capital and lower. Polaris is a fully fledged capital ship. If a Perseus finds itself 1 v 1 against a Polaris it means the Perseus captain fucked up. Perseus will shines against Nautilu, HH, other Perseuses, down to connies. Lower than Connies and the Perseus will be in trouble. Higher than sub cap and Perseus is yet in trouble. Polaris and Perseus aren't really comparable because it's a complete other size and range of ship. Like comparing Cutlass vs a Connie. Perseus is much more comparable to the HH.
These ships are going to be extremely expensive to run...Everyone talks about running a small fleet like a Polaris, Perseus and Hammerhead, my belief is that the effort to keep them running and maintained will only make them viable to use in major engagements and then I dread the claim time for something like the Polaris where it will be registered in days rather than minutes or hours if they are destroyed. The rest of the time the crews will be busy doing missions and making money to support them. Also, just floating around in a capital ship is going to invite people to try and take them out.
Polaris has more game loops I think. Perseus makes more sense game wise as you can run the whole ship with a crew of 4. Much more feasible for small groups.
I like my redeemer but my big flaw is flying big ships that I can solo and the Perseus fits that criteria with blades. When the ship expo comes around again I'ma trade my redeemer in for that beautiful, but intimidating ship
Great video I would love either ship but I am going with Big guns over Missiles as they are cheap to use LOL One thing I wish you would add is if you was on your own what would the pilot have at hand. you talked about blades for controlling turrets . when are they coming to SC ? as much as I would like to have a crew Im not so sure I could. so how effective would they be as solo ?
They overpriced the Persus by $75 but perfectly priced the Polaris. For that reason alone, the Polaris is the better buy. $675 for the Persus or $750 for a Polaris. The Persus is worth $600 in concept max and $650 after release. It's another Cutlass Steel.
The ships in SC are like potato chips. One just isn't enough.
You mean Ben N Jerry's? Take the whole tub.
potato chips, each ranging in real world money price from ~$40 to $3000
and after getting one you cant hold yourself back from getting another

It's is extremely armored so even if there were a few fighters on it while it was firing on the Idris it would take a long time to do some decent damage that and there are the size 3 turrents to help take on those fighters and deter those fighters. I'd say it's 70/30 fight leaning towards the Idris but the Perseus will definitely be able to take on some capitals but not without a challenge.
Great stuff dude! I picked up a Perseus during IAE...but I think the Polaris is my dream ship for late game exploration/patrol and colony defense!
Thanks for the videos, they're super fun! :D
Can't get enough of these comparison videos! They're really good :D
Good to see another versus vid, great job again Law!
Torpedo explosions add so much to the already-excellent B-roll.
When I got home from work, I was watching this at 4am and passed out from your soothing voice. Thanks buddy 😜👍
I really liked both so I got both. 😂🤣 just need to build up my org a bit more to get people to help me run them.
Same
If you wanna run with an org, we're a pretty chill group with a military theme. About 28 members so far. We do weekly ops and mess around in between!
I am part of Polaris Corp Organization. We are flying Polaris ships and now also Perseus ships.
@@ASSASSYN Jesus christ, can you imagine being assaulted by a group of Polaris and Perseus ships. Even a Javelin would be scared.
i wish i had a capital ship, my org is in need of such resources and we have more then enough people to crew 10 javelins XD
Got the full set of "Corvettes" which I intend to use in a small anti-capital "task force". Org gameplay is a prereq 'though
Carrack -> Scout Corvette
Role: forward scout and target management.
Hammerhead -> Anti Fighter Corvette (the ship is not a corvette but currently listed as one in the game)
Role: screens against fighters and needs to work in tandem with the Perseus.
Perseus -> Anti Ship Corvette (again: this ship is not a true corvette but may be listed as one in the game)
Role: fire support.
Polaris -> Anti Capital Corvette (the only true corvette so far)
Role: Capital Ship Cracker.
"Currency" manpower (cost efficiency)
The currency I'm talking about is manpower, as every single player usually has at least one, more often than not multiple fighters and ships and need to be convinved to join a crew instead piloting own fighters.
Just like Carrier groups in real life, you will have support ships in most big fleets.
Exactly - these things aren't meant to be out there solo, although people will definitely use them that way.
I still find this facinnating how many Wing Commander designs are being reimanged and updated.
I look at it like this, the Perseus is a great force multiplier, but the polaris is capable of being a force lol.
I never really thought about slaving the Perseus main gun to the pilot - I just assumed a turret that size was going to require a man to operate, but being able to run solo ERT's would be pretty hilarious
I solo ERTs in my Vanguard Harbinger. I can one shot heavy fighters with the torpedoes, and whittle down the Hammerhead with missiles and guns.
Dude, you make great videos, periodt. Hope you are having a happy and safe holiday! Thank you.
Love your content! I can't wait for the Polaris.
Great video I scooped me up a Persus at launch so excited for it for what purpose it serves.
That's up until now the best review of these ships I found. Thank you very much!
Nice comparison and since I also got an ultra-wide, it adds additional joy watching these videos. Merry Xmas!
Great video man, I love the comparison and the breakdown. Personally I'm leaning toward the Perseus.

bouth the Polaris & Perseus need to have a HH as suport, and a combo of those 3 ships will be an awsome site to see,my is a very small org and the Perseus would be a perfect fit for us ,but still thet is mostly for fleet fights ,but i like bouth ships
Why does a Polaris need a Hammerhead? It already has a l load of S4 turrets on it, plus automated missile turrets. It's more heavily armoured as well. Dragging a Hammerhead along would just be an expensive waste of time.
@@schoolboymafia not the Polaris ,but the Perseus yes, and i ment thet as a fleet heding to combat against other players
As you mentioned the Perseus has a long range due to 2 L fuel tanks and a L quantum fuel tank .
If you are operating in the outer rim systems, I don't know if large swarms of fighters can get out that far.
Besides the Perseus has heavy armor + 2 L shields and I don't see S 3 weapons doing much against that while occupied
by auto turrets.
Great breakdown of the two ships, some really good in-game footage too!!! 👍👍💯
Great vid, Law. Thanks for it and merry Christmas! 🎄
Thank you, and merry Christmas to you as well!
I had the Polaris but downgraded to a Perseus, I'm sure in another 5 years I'll change my mind again.
The teamplay with a group running BOTH.. That's the best solution!
Thanks for the insights!
I would go with the Perseus because it requires less crew, I have two other friends that play and we could have fun in that, the medical bed and the landing bay in the Polaris is cool for boarding party gameplay but I don't see our group playing like that often.
Awesome breakdown! I can't wait til the Polaris is in game!
How often are we going to need to destroy a cap ship? I agree that the Polaris is better, but the costs to operate need to meet its utility. I think we're going to use the Perseus more often. And this ship pair with the HammerHead is a no go for the major pirate raids.
I think if you need to kill anything smaller than cap 3 ares crusaders>Perseus
@@ragnarbaron6090 Perseus can easily concentrate fire on one section of shield. Aeres damage will be spread out
Polaris does a lot more than just carry torps, it will be an excellent general purpose and patrolling ship.
@@T51B1 it’s all right at what it does. I still think the ares is gonna be the pirate ship of choice
Do you have any idea how many Capital ships there are in players hands? My Primary organisation has 38 Javelins (including mine) and literally hundreds of Idris and Polaris hulls. I would say the need to kill capital ships both PvE and PvP will be very common if you go looking for it.
Always loved this series!!!
Vanguard Harbinger versus Freelancer MIS would be a good way to incorporate missile operator mode into the review in 3.14. Both are about the same weight class, similar pilot controlled firepower, single manned turret, and they differentiate themselves from the rest of their family with added missile capacity.
A Perseus seems like the perfect flagship for a small fleet. Only needing a crew of around 5 is a huge advantage.
So I was wondering the comparison of the Freelancer Max vs the theoretical Constellation Taurus (or even a regular Conny at this point?
I was actually considering getting the perseus. But after I've seen what they did to the Ion not any more...
Unless torpedos can be remotely controlled eventually
greetings from the guy in the defender who accidentally rammed the idris at the end there o/
was very bummed to miss the explosion and here it is for me, thanks for posting! I wonder how much damage the kamikaze did in the end
Polaris can deal with small fighters and large ships/cap ship attack. Also Polaris can easily be HQ for a small to medium org.
I've got a Perseus, and I bought the 20 dollar CCU to the Polaris. Once they're both out I'll make my decision as to which one to keep
I cant wait for all those cool ships to be in the game and fight it out, then some random pop in with a BMM who as of now have 4 size 6 guns.
How I see the roles of ships rn (exempting their actual roles)
Destroyer (main ship of a fleet)- perseus, most numerous of the capital esc class ships in an org.
Cruiser (more specialized and stronger ship, capable of handling itself) - polaris
Battleship/flagship (head ship of fleet, expensive and strong, maybe a couple in a big org) - javelin
Carriers/assult ships (carries fighter/drop ships and large amounts of soldiers/equipment) - I see the kraken being the good carrier in a fleet here with fighters, and the Idris as well altho I personally due to the three ship carrying cap ive heard about the Idris would probably use it like a marine assualt carrier with drop ships instead of fighters. Only a few of these in each org as well
Support frigate (also numerous more specialized smaller cap class ship) - the hammerhead for anti-fighter support. Nautilus for mine laying
Submarine/anti-cap ship - retaliator, good for popping up and dumping torps, or long range support for a fleet.
Medical frigates-endeavor and apollo(altho apollo is a medium ship)
Then starfarer for refueling
For patrol craft (most numerous multi crew ship not cap or cap esc class) probably connies (personal choice), pilot has guns and two turrets and lot of missles plus snub.
Idris has more armor and health than a kraken apparently, could be wrong
@@SanoSora would help the Idris work as a dedicated assualt ship then, carriers need support but the Idris could probably work alone as part of a marine corp
@@gregbagel791 agreed
Honestly, highly expect the component sizes to get bigger for the Polaris. Especially for the fuel tanks. Expect 2 Large or 1 capital
I'll use the perseus as a more relaxed combat vessel, while my polaris will probably be functioning as my org base. Perseus is a very nice ship that fits a more realistic player crew size and still packs a wallop and has good utility with the 50 scu rover bay.
Perseus guns are, what, size 7? It's hard to gauge how powerful that would be.
Love the theory craft bruv. Looking forward to the next vid
this is a question i've been asking myself. i have an upgrade from a Perseus to Polaris. I frankly like the Perseus better. The one thing that makes me hesitate is the med bay. it could be so useful
As a solo player , the Perseus is what I’ll aim for when it releases in game shops
Could you fit two small fighter ships in the Perseus’s hangar? Preferably a ship with a QT drive. With good firepower unlike the Snubs.
Guns actually hit so torps are the disadvantage you have to try to catch a torp
I have both in my buy-back! Keep up the awesome videos!
Why not just keep it in your hangar?
I have the same opinion, the polaris looks so strange..
I personally love broadsides, plus the Javelin does have its own massive turrets central mounted top and bottom

@@Anvarynn yea, but broadside weapon is back to the age of wooden ships xD. You can have it as you wish. I just dont find it very suitable.

you would think a sub-carrier frigate would have one of those... love your vids bro :)
Long range torpedo boat!
Perseus is much more comparable to the HH.
if u need a torpedo delivery system just grab a retaliator :D
Great breakdown
Excellent as always Law!!
Crew requirements, capital ship fuel and torpedo bills is gonna be rough for the Polaris.
love the new intro and logo. looks sick.

I would not mind have one or both escorting my Hull E!
They overpriced the Persus by $75 but perfectly priced the Polaris. For that reason alone, the Polaris is the better buy. $675 for the Persus or $750 for a Polaris.
The Persus is worth $600 in concept max and $650 after release. It's another Cutlass Steel.
