Getting into Hot Wheels since I've found my childhood collection, but I must say as a Funko Pop collector your collection behind your right shoulder is bonkers. Love the lighted display
Could be.. would need to compare it to other same car/version.. get on google image search or ebay and try to see if others do.. its totally possible that its a tampo error.. depending on the year it might even me a “no tampo variant” ie.. so many where produced without tampo that it is a variant
depends on the car, but honestly the older the car even in bad shape holds value - plenty of restores out there can make it almost brand new and worth $
Cool information video. I'm into First editions. First time the car was released. Which basically means I collect all models at least once. Loose/Mint is good. but in blister is better. The newer ones are just called New Models, but to me they are still first editions. Variations are always included in First editions. Not sure if they are worth anything, but I don't collect for reselling or anything other than just having them for myslef. I Also like and collect all Muscle cars(trucks included), Chrome cars, and most Street Beasts. and any car with flames.
I'm more into collecting old vintage hot wheels. And I open pretty much every. I don't care about reselling my collection. Thanks for sharing. New sub.
Right on! My personal Experiance is pretty much 1995-current but ive got some friends that can help with some vintage knowledge that we can do content on
I think I am most definetely in the minority as a collector. I collect redlines and go for pristine very close to mint untoned examples. Most of my cars were bought when the prices were reasonable. I played with redlines as a kid and they hold a special place in my heart. I love the hobby and childhood memories, friends and the thrill of the chase has always been more important than investment. Whatever, the reason is why you collect, as long as your happy and honest, nothing else really matters.
Everyone is driven for one reason or another glad you still have your redlines.. i have a few loose redlines that i took as commission for selling some elses collection..
Thank you for making this vid. This was very informative, but one area I was hoping to see covered was how to protect and store the unopened Hot Wheels. What do you suggest?
A few things.. protecto paks plenty of variations.. any really will do.. also the blisters on the cars are susceptible to changes in temp and humidity.. keep them where the temps stay consistent
My daughter and I love collecting Hot Wheels but anything really. Love your Pops in the background. New Sub to support your channel. Shout out from New Zealand. Have an awesome day! Merry Christmas From HWFAH (For the love of collecting)
That did help, thanks. Question: There’s loads of types of cars (obviously) and within this they might be ‘Muscle Mania’ ‘then and now’ etc. Along with numbers like 154/250 and 5/5. Can you explain about the types and options please?
For sure.. so for a while now mattel has been assigning numbers to the cars the 154/250 means its the car #154 of 250 for that year. They have been steadily increasing the amount of mainlines since the early 2ks. The 5/5 means that it is the 5th of 5 in that mainline subset .. the subset being muscle mainia. So the 5 cars that make up that subset of the mainlines will all be muscle car models/styles. Some subsets like say the “virtual colllection” from 99 if i recall are 4 card deco’d out in a matrix style paint scheme .. thanks for the question i will cover this in a little more detail in next weeks video on mainlines!
@@RicksToyRoom Thanks for the reply, it makes perfect sense. I guessed it would be something like this but wanted to be sure. I’ve also noticed the same subset numbered car but in different colours, I assume that’s normal but is something else you could touch on? Thanks again.
@@ArcofZen 100% so color variants in my opinion are a result of error and variant hunters of days past.. mattel saw how hardcore some collectors get in having every version they started purposely introducing color palette changes into the assortments to drive more collectors to the aisles
RLC - redline club (mattels exclusive membership club to get limited releases) NFT - non-fungible token - think bitcoin but as pictures.. mattel and funko both do special nfts that can be redeemed for a physical product
Its when you go through all the cars on a peg(s) looking for cars.. like dump bin hunting is digging through a bin at walmart or target to find something same concept different location for the cars
ya for whatever reason i said paper.. meant paint but i probably got distracted my notifications stay on for work during my recordings and i went squirrel
I'd like to help here and correct you on the 1996 Treasure Hunt Viper. The white one is the correct version, and all 25,000 were produced as planned, The red Viper was made in China vs Malaysia for the white one. The red Viper was supposed to be part of the basic line but the factory printed the wrong card to be used for it, therefore creating this error. There are a LOT of them out there and that's why the value is so low. Hope this helps
Interesting I would like to get someone from mattel to collab that… but thanks for the feedback. Appreicate it.. it was always talked about as a running error not a card error.. hmm.
I'm not sure "errors" are worth anything other than the original 99¢. I have a few yet I can't find this mythical buyer that actually gives a dang. I have a robin's egg blue 64 Mustang convertible mainline of about 4 years ago with the front right bumper jammed out of the chassis weirdly. I bought another normal one as well, still unopened. When I found out nobody cared about the pair I opened the "reject" to see if I could fix it but no way - that front bumper - I don't know how they did it but it is off the hizzy on one side like the press just smashed it on - and I couldn't budge it. I put it back in the blister but....who cares !!! 🎸
So its crazy but it really depends on the error and the buyer.. i have a buddy that buys every error he rarely hagles prices as like you said they dont go for a lot but he actively looks for them.. most people pass as they are collecting for the car not the defects but again to each their own.. as for actual value only to someone that is an error collector will you see someone pay more than retail like you pointed out..
ya for whatever reason i said paper.. meant paint but i probably got distracted my notifications stay on for work during my recordings and i went squirrel
Custom builds are another because they are built and few to find! I sell my builds ford tons of money! They are becoming big because stuff they make these days most of the time are just ugly! And error cars are very common I find a bunch two in the past month missing chrome on wheels!
Dude you just give those scummy Scaplers a idea.. Oh no how Imma buy those in cheapers price when scaplers buy it and jack up the price to a price of a PS5?
Mattel should discontinue producing and selling the Treasure Hunts, Super Treasure Hunts, and Super Chase cars. They are actually ruining the diecast collecting hobby. 🙄
Why are you telling peopl they shoud get their "vintage" card graded ? That's the biggest waste of money for anyone that is just in it for fun ....only investors care about getting stuff graded ........ and yes i have have some good real vintage stuff at flea markets for less than $20 more like less than $1 lol .....
Hey man.. collect how you like,, me i like to grade and insure my collection.. collecting is like drinking whiskey - never tell someone how to drink - only how you prefer yours :)

i've been collecting since i was a kid but now I wanted to take it more seriously. This gave me a great place to start from. Thanks.
That is awesome! Glad you stuck with me through the video! Cant wait to keep doing more
Super cool😊
Thanks
I just started collecting about a year ago and this really helped. Thank you! Just subbed and liked.

I have a 82 Cadillac hot wheel that don't have the Cadillac symbol on it , would that be considered a error car?

Do you have anything on matchbox. Kinda hard to find a good video on what to look for in matchbox
I dont actively but give me by end of weekend.. i can put something together
What about the window part of the car being loose, sitting in the car. I’d that worth anything?
depends on the car, but honestly the older the car even in bad shape holds value - plenty of restores out there can make it almost brand new and worth $
What are the best stores to get hot wheels?
Depends what you are hunting for.. so many places carry them.. or look into distributors to buy them by the cases

I’m brand new to the hot wheels collecting so thanks for this video, it’s helped me a lot.👍👍

How can I find out what my hot wheel car is worth it has a error
Use ebay to search for similar year/model errors in completed sold auctions

What is the difference between discast and hot wheel
Hot wheels are diecast, just made by mattel .. diecast are a type of fabrication method.

WRONG! Vintage - 25 to 49 years old, Classic - 50 to 99 years old, Antique - 100 years or older. 🤔
