Another advice: only collect what you REALLY want to collect. In collecting hobbies (LEGO, stamps, coins, etc) people have different interests. Some are generalists that collect everything, others are specialists that have very specific collections. Some collect to complete a set, others only collect what they really like. Some collect sealed, others collect loose. Personally I only collect premium castings that I really like and avoid castings that are too similar. A small but diverse collection, that's exactly what I want.
@@MUSTANGHUNTER I'm doing the same, really keeps me from hording. However growing up with brands like Action Diecast and TSM I can't stand leaving them in the blister. So now they are on a 3d printed display with the card art built into the background to add some personality.
I’m a general collector I don’t have many vehicles I dislike I’m an open person I generally dislike most IRL teslas but I still buy the MBX and HW castings since it’s cool to collect each model of car a company makes it’s like a little auto museum
I’m glad you touched on the buying 30 of 1 casting. I’m a customizer as well, but I try not to buy every one I see of a livery that’s more popular than a lesser one. I try to remember that in speaking of mainlines, they’re a children’s toy first. I’m a collector bcuz I remember what it was like finding that one I wanted when I was a kid. Today’s kids won’t understand that feeling bcuz of grown men taking all of them. The future of the hobby rests on those children today and it’s important to plant that seed. Especially for those that are in it more for a monetary reason (I’m not, I open all mine), bcuz without them growing in the hobby, the values will decrease. I’ve left STHs on pegs if I already have it.
I recently bought a few hot wheels cars. I haven't bought one in probably 10+ years (I'm 26). When I bought them it reignited my love for hot wheels from being a little kid. Right now I am just getting cars (and motorcycles) I like. I didn't even know what to look for with the more rare cars. Great video! Thank you!
That's awesome man, just get what you like and don't stress the rare one, chases or Supers. They will come with timing and luck. Welcome back to the hobby!
That’s a great explanation, though for those who are new to using fandom do be aware that not every variation is going to be there as it’s a community run website and relys on people sharing their variations that are not yet on there
I took a hiatus from collecting diecast from 2008 to 2018 and I had to learn so much, especially with all the new manufacturers, and the terminology. Back in the day, I just picked up what I liked, couldn't care less about TH's or if it was rare! I would see cases on top of pallets and didn't even think, to ask someone to open them, just walked away! ✌
Jason has been on a crash course of Hot Wheels knowledge and he's been flying straight up the whole time! I'm impressed by his thirst for knowledge, not just knowing it. I’m from Malaysia and I started to collected hotwheels since 2016 until now… since the price back then was RM7.90 ($1.61) each, now is RM9.90/RM10 ($2.14) each 😮💨
That's a great explanation. I know everything about hot wheels, I know how to collect hot wheels, I know how to hunt for hot wheels, I collect at least 2 of each hot wheels casting, I collect just about everything out there in hot wheels, and I will be collecting hot wheels for the rest of my life.👍 Awesome hot wheels collection you have congrats.👍
Sadly here in Southern California those TH's, STH's and Chases never make it onto pegs. The store managers, stockers, employees are all in on the racket to pilfer the desirable cars from the cases and a regular consumer doesn't even stand a chance of finding one.
Jeez i started by buying one i liked now im like a kid i spent 200 in last week😂 didnt realize they were just as popular when ur an adult as when u were a kid 😂
I feel like STH’s, and most TH’s are for the resale market. Same with premium chase cars. I mean props if you land one, and you collect. But a collector to me != reseller, so I hope for folks starting out, don’t worry about TH/STH’s in the stores, instead think about what brands you love the most, and stick to those, or a type of car, etc. If you hone in over time on a car, it’s cool to get many many variants of it too, like a Porsche 911. Ohh, also, I really recommend coming up with a way to catalog easily. I used an app that’s a custom database. Super helpful when you can’t remember if you already have a piece. Awesome video!
Great info and advice MHD!! Very good of you to share your wealth of knowledge with the community and help all collectors out there. Great job my brother!! Thanks for sharing!!

What an awesome video for beginners, man! I love it! Me and my son just started collecting/hunting last year. Wish we would have watched this when we started lol! Good stuff, bro!
Dang!. What an awesome room. I would love to do that to my computer room. Wife comes in the room right now and goes "nah nah your not doing that to this room unless you get a bigger house and extra room". She walks out and goes "waste of money". Ive been collecting for a year now and ive learnt getting doubles is the way to go, 1 for show and 1 to play with. Im now out of room on my desk with over 100cars now. My mouse and keyboard cable knocks them around sometimes especially when im playing games etc lol. Then i have to re-position them etc.
I still haven't found the answer to the following questions... why buy everything and keep it locked in a package? To resell it later? What's the point? I just started buying different interesting Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, I open them and put them somewhere and sometimes you can play with them to keep your hands busy)
Some get opened, but most stay packaged for the complete collection later in life. It's easy to just display carded than building shelves or buying high-end display cases for loose cars. Plus, when I look back later on, I can see the card changes and know exactly when they were released. If my daughter ever sells them in the future, atleast they will all be completely packaged and easier to get rid of

How to interpret the codes printed on the back of the cards would definitely be so helpful for beginners like me. For example, how to tell what month or year the year was made on HW.
Ok im gonna start collecting, I need something else beside weapons which are insanely hard to collect because of price, this will give me something to kinda fulfill my need while waiting for enough money for a gun 🤷
I used to have scores of hotwheels, matchbox and other brands of 1/64. Had to throw them out cause my parents said I was getting old. Though I managed to save a few. I've been getting back into buying them. I don't open them. Just collect. Don't think I have the money to buy multiple copies
Great Video, I was collecting Hot Wheels since 2007 at stores and on eBay. I was thinking of getting out of it until I watched your video and now I don't no what to do. I was trying to collect 2 of all Hot Wheels from 1990 to now of every variation and you are right. It is over whelming at times. What I want to know before I decide to keep going with it is How good does the card or bubble of the Hot Wheel needs to be in order to count as being done. Can you Answer that, That will be great on my decision on keep collecting. Keep up the great work. Thanks.
Nice video. Thankfully for me I just like the "unique cars" ie dump truck, police cars, bus, etc and anything related to Batman not the traditional race cars.

How to interpret the codes printed on the back of the cards would definitely be so helpful for beginners like me. For example, how to tell what month or year the year was made on HW.
I'll add the month codes in another episode
I have found 3 or 4,5 supers and traded them all. The best one I found was the F1 ford truck from (2021?) I have a pic of it to remember it
😎🤙🤙
Thank you!

Ok im gonna start collecting, I need something else beside weapons which are insanely hard to collect because of price, this will give me something to kinda fulfill my need while waiting for enough money for a gun 🤷
Lol as long as you collect what you like 😎🤙
I like 👍 collecting hot wheels 🛞 and match box 📦 and I have about 10 totes full of cars 🚗
Very cool collection. Just wondering how many cars you have?.👍👍
Its about 7k
Put a penny sleeve in between the cars
Genius!
Ahh oké so i am safe with unpacking them😭😅
Fantastic video ! Very well done !
Now that's a lot of cars.
I'll be there one day haha 😄
🤙🤙thanks for watching!
I used to have scores of hotwheels, matchbox and other brands of 1/64. Had to throw them out cause my parents said I was getting old.
Though I managed to save a few. I've been getting back into buying them. I don't open them. Just collect. Don't think I have the money to buy multiple copies
Welcome back to the hobby!
I never kept the little box.Only the cars
Great Video, I was collecting Hot Wheels since 2007 at stores and on eBay. I was thinking of getting out of it until I watched your video and now I don't no what to do. I was trying to collect 2 of all Hot Wheels from 1990 to now of every variation and you are right. It is over whelming at times. What I want to know before I decide to keep going with it is How good does the card or bubble of the Hot Wheel needs to be in order to count as being done. Can you Answer that, That will be great on my decision on keep collecting. Keep up the great work. Thanks.
I will make a video on that for you!
I love this - thank you. Austins Toys 🙂
Thanks for watching
Thats an insane collection man
Lol thanks man!
👍 Thx 🇧🇪
Nice video. Thankfully for me I just like the "unique cars" ie dump truck, police cars, bus, etc and anything related to Batman not the traditional race cars.
That's good, very specific diecasts like that are much easier and also very cool to find
Do you buy collections or know where to sell? Large Hot Wheel, Johnny Lightning, Matchbox and more.
Shon & Amy McDonald, with their Whatnot, sell for really good prices and are also loyal collectors
You should tell to respect the cars and especially respect the people who work there
Great info! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Wow, thankyou
My one question is what is your LEAST favorite mustang
Mach E
Super awesome collection brother 🔥❤🔥
