    Thank you, Rabbi Singer, for explaining this 'issue' to the caller. It is one of the things I have most often noticed being profoundly misunderstood by people who aren't Jewish, and most of the time I can tell that it isn't enough that I, being a commoner, explain the truth to them. We really need people like yourself to help make it all readily available to everybody.
    I am grateful to be able to visit your channel, to watch your content and listen to your wise words. And I pray that you and your family remain healthy and well during these difficult times. שלום

      The term “dog” was indeed a common expression in Jewish culture of the time when referring to Gentiles, though it was not flattering. Dogs were generally viewed as unclean animals in Jewish thought, and the term was used metaphorically to highlight the religious and cultural separation between Jews (God’s chosen people) and Gentiles (non-Jews). However, Jesus’ use of the diminutive form of the word for dog (akin to “puppies” or “little dogs”) softens the tone, suggesting a less harsh interpretation, perhaps hinting at eventual inclusion.
      This story has several layers:
      1. Cultural Context: The term reflects the Jewish perspective of the time, where Gentiles were often seen as outsiders to the covenant with God.
      2. Testing Faith: Jesus’ response can be understood as a way of testing or drawing out the woman’s faith. Her humble yet bold reply showcases her deep trust in his ability to heal, despite her outsider status.
      3. Foreshadowing Inclusion: The woman’s persistence and faith symbolize the breaking down of barriers between Jews and Gentiles. Ultimately, Jesus praises her faith and grants her request, pointing toward the later inclusion of Gentiles in the Christian message.
      So if anything: Jesus was trying to get rid of your ways of seeing Gentiles, it's not that hard. Then now you want to say it was Jesus who did the things YOU would do, while He showed you that is quite evil in fact .By the way read the Tal mud you hold so dearly and come back and discuss your own true colours please WOW

      Gentiles are not outsiders to the covenant with God.
      1. Noah and his family were saved because they obeyed seven laws.
      1. Know God.
      2. Respect God.
      3. Respect life.
      4. Respect marriage.
      5. Respect property.

      Gentiles are not outsiders to the covenant with God.
      Gentiles follow the 7 Noahide laws given to Prophet Noah which does not include circumcision.
      Muslims follow the 7 Noahide laws given to Prophet Noah and the circumcision covenant given to Abraham through the descendants of Ishmael.
      Jews follow the 7 Noahide laws and the additional laws in the Torah given to Moses and the circumcision covenant given to Abraham through the descendants of Isaac.

    Sanhedrin 59a discusses the role of Gentiles in Judaism: "From where is it derived that even a gentile who engages in Torah study is considered like a High Priest? It is derived from that which is stated: “You shall therefore keep My statutes and My ordinances, which if a man does he shall live by them” (Leviticus 18:5). The phrase: Which if priests, Levites, and Israelites do they shall live by them, is not stated, but rather: “A man,” which indicates mankind in general. You have therefore learned that even a gentile who engages in Torah study is considered like a High Priest."
    Rabbi Weiner quotes and explains this ruling in The Divine Code, 2nd edition, page 92: "If the Gentile is one of the pious of the nations of the world who keep the Seven Noahide Commandments as their part in the Torah of Moses, because he is commanded to do them, and he is careful in their proper observance according to the Noahide Code, and he is involved in learning the parts of Torah that relate to these seven commandments, he is indeed considered before God as being as honorable as a proper Jewish High Priest who served in the Holy Temple."

    What a brilliant answer..Tovia has a great sense of humor..with a little sarcasm…he really cares about people wherever they are in their understanding or where they find themselves along life’s journey in the pursuit of truth…which coming from a Christian background usually starts with anger mixed with a little curiosity tucked in an argument lol…but I have found just studying the Bible and using Tovia’s study guide (all scripture)..there isn’t an argument anymore..just questions here and there and I am so grateful fir gaining wisdom and understanding by much study…and all the good podcasts here on this channel and others…it’s a long journey but well worth giving time to. Tovia’s example of being loving and kind with those who don’t understand yet is priceless..and something worth putting into practice.

    Rabbi Tovia Singer is correct. The narrative indicates that Jesus referred to the Canaanite woman as a dog. A critical takeaway from this account is the perspective of the authors of the Christian Bible. It is essential to recognize that they seemed unaware that, according to the teachings of the Prophets of Israel, during messianic times, all righteous individuals, whether Jewish or non-Jewish, would have a place in the World to come.

      Not he's NOT. In the original Greek text, Jesus never referred to the woman directly or indirectly as a "dog". The exact word Jesus used here, in Greek, was kunarion, meaning “small dog” or “pet dog.” This is a completely different word from the term kuon, used to refer to unspiritual people or to an “unclean” animal. Christ used a metaphor to make a point and test the woman's faith and intentions. Besides, what people here are ignore is that Jesus praised the Gentile woman for her great faith and healed her daughter.

    • @VictorBenNoach

      @sammydasilva6152 Then why use the term 'dog' in the first place? By the way she responded she clrearly knew she was being called a dog, when all she wanted was to help her daughter. admit he was wrong for calling her that.

    • @JackDavidsen
      @JackDavidsen 3 дня назад

      Whose translation? The King James bible is in English, right (I haven't read it, that's why I ask)? King James is the most widespread version of the Christian bible in English speaking countries, so it isn't unfair to expect that the caller would have found these things there.
      I'll admit I was a little shocked to hear that Christians call gentiles dogs and pigs. That's horrible!..
      I haven't met any Christians who used these terms about non-Christians (or about Jews or anybody else), so maybe it's a thing of the past? Still, if it is indeed in the bible, then it has an effect on those who read it. And considering how many, many times the bible has been rewritten, and parts have been taken out or added, I think it might be a good idea to consider changing this particular part too - if such a thing is possible in our time.

    • @yoshiperspectives4880
      @yoshiperspectives4880 3 дня назад

      The KJV is actually the best translation from the Hebrew. It may not have all the layers of meaning as Hebrew does, but it's p'shat meaning is an accurate translation from Hebrew. You would have a hard time finding a word and saying it was "incorrect".

    • @MFPhoto1
      @MFPhoto1 3 дня назад +6

      @@yoshiperspectives4880 The King James mistranslation is not taken from the original Hebrew, but from Greek and Latin mistranslations. If you want a good English translation taken from the original, I recommend ArtScroll. The Judaica Press translation is also good, but I like ArtScroll better. Note that there are certain words and phrases which cannot be translated. The good thing about ArtScroll and Judaica Press is that they will contain footnotes explaining those passages which cannot be literally translated.

      On the contrary, it had a much deeper meaning than was attested in this video. To be blunt, if you want to understand Jesus, you don't go to a Jew, and Singer intentionally avoided the truth of what the Talmud says about gentiles, which it has made comments that are not good. I expect Singer to leave that out though. As for Jesus referencing gentiles as dogs, it is a reference back to the garden where Cain's lineage went on to produce a legacy of criminals. God is always honoring that original branch Israel, and even a jew that is out of the promised land can be a dog, and non-Jews can be grafted onto that branch and be likewise servants of God.

    Even the Exodus was not just the salvation or rescue of the Jews/Israelites alone. As is written in Exodus 12:38, "a mixed multitude went up with them" out of Egypt. In other words, many non-Israelites were redeemed from Egypt along with the Israelites. It has always been the Jewish belief that "all the families of the earth will be blessed with" us. See Genesis 12:3. The idea that we think we are superior to others or have any interest in ruling over others has only ever been a lie by those who hate us to trick others into hating us too.

    Food for thought for us all : Noah, Abraham, Job, Enoch where call counted as righteous in G-d's eye before Moses got the laws. By the way the laws are there for the Jews, as we been taught by the Rabbi's(my understanding paraphrasing), to do what pleases Him not what we think we can do to please Him. So the whole world can server G-d. Enoch pleased G-d, before the law, so much he did not see death, image that it's mind blowing.
    May the whole world learn of these truths so idolatry and man made religions can be gone and the one TRUE G-d can be served.

    Paul conjures Christianity for the gentiles. So Christianity has nothing to do with Jesus, since Jesus says you won’t enter God’s kingdom if you ignore the slightest law.

      Dude, stay in your lane. What do you know about Jesus? Clearly not much. Jesus stated that those who deny him will not enter the Kingdom of God, and he said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Moreover, in the original Greek text, Jesus never called the woman a dog but used a metaphor where he used the Greek term for puppy or pet dog and not the bad term dog that means unclean animal. People who do not understand Koine Greek always get this story with the Gentile completely wrong, leaving out the fact that Christ praised the woman's faith and healed her daughter. Of course, many here also fail to mention that Jesus referred to the Hebrews/Israelites who denied him much harsher and worse things than a dog or a pig.

    Being raised a Catholic, I never heard an unfavorable remark about members of the faiths.
    1. Catholicism does claim that our faith is a better and easier way, not the only way.
    2. Other faiths are critiqued, themselves, not the followers.
    3. The faith only references certain parts of the Bible. Very little of the OT is used, except the Psalms and logical and pertinent sections.
    4. Catholics are not required to read the Bible.
    5. I attended 12 years of diocesan ran education.
    6. In 10th grade, we studied the Bible like a history book. In 11th, we studied the major world religions. We were required to be as objective as possible.

What's going to happen to him according to every branch of Christianity including Catholicism? He's going straight to hell, right? Without Jesus, it is irrelevant what else there is. I was born and raised Catholic and went to a convent school from Gr 1-12. While in primary school, at the end of terms, we were herded into the school hall where we were shown films (movies) of the hateful Jews murdering JC. They taught us in a subtle way to hate Jews.
      Thankfully, even while I was watching said films, there was a voice in my head and, dare I say, my heart that told me those were lies and that G-d loves His people. I remember one specific film shown to us when I was 9 or 10, where this knowledge I had was very strong and I could actually see the evil of the movie. Because of HaShem's loving-kindness I am now a Noahide.

    It appears that you may not have fully engaged with the material presented.

    • @sammydasilva6152
      @sammydasilva6152 2 дня назад

      You're wrong. The exact word Jesus used here, in Greek, was kunarion, meaning “puppy” or “pet dog.” This is a completely different word from the term kuon, used to refer to unspiritual people or to an “unclean” animal.
      Jesus often tested people to prove their intentions, often through response questions or challenges. Jesus praised her faith-calling it “great”-and granted her request (Matthew 15:28).
      So, according to both the context and language involved, Jesus wasn’t referring to the Canaanite woman as a “dog,” either directly or indirectly. He wasn’t using a slur but making a point using a metaphor. He was also testing the faith of the woman and teaching an important lesson to His disciples.

    The ancient nation of Israel was made of twelve tribes divided into two kingdoms - the Jews and the other ten tribes. The Jews are the southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin and representatives of the others. The other ten were the Northern Kingdom of "lost ten tribes" of Ephraim, Manasseh, Reuben, Simeon, Issachar, Zebulon, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. As a Christian I was troubled by this verse when I first read it a couple of years ago. My fellow Christians will perform mental gymnastics to explain this. The most common explanation is that this was just the beginning of Jesus's ministry but later he was more inclusive of gentiles and Paul certainly was. Its a complex and confusing picture. Your explanation is helpful but only if we reject Jesus and KJV.

      Nothing troubling about this verse if you understand it. You have to understand the fundamentals of your Bible. This refers to the lineage of Cain, which is a deep topic, but the woman's answer proved to Jesus that she wasn't a dog, and she received her need. Read the parable of the sower of good seed and the enemy that sowed seed after him. That explains it. You also have to remember, 99% of the world never had a clue Jesus was on the earth, and that includes many in Israel, because Jesus was only sent to the few servants of God.

Imagine calling someone in such distress a dog who came to you for help. The woman didnt have the benefit of reflection on other parables. "Fundamentals, deep topics" dont answer it. How would you feel if you reached out to Jesus and he called you a dog? You are right that 99% of people on earth never had a clue that Jesus was on earth which is why the idea that people will suffer eternal punishment in Hell if they dont believe in him is so abhorrent. The actual word is not dog in Matt 15:21-28. In the original Greek it is actually “whelps” or “puppies”. Puppy or whelp is more endearing word as opposed to dog. That said, the more important message of this passage is that Jesus does end up helping the gentile women in the end, as he did other gentiles in the New Testament. Yes he came for the Jews as he mentioned in the passage, but he was even more harsh in his language to his brethren the Jews when he criticized them in the NT.

    The Latin word ''Gentiles'' is not even in NT nor in OT there is such a specific concept. Nor in Latin it does not even mean ''non-Jews''.
    A lot of apartheid kind of issues are made up. Just like Jesus calling a woman ''dog'' is not made up (if you believe in NT) but there is no such thing that ''The messiah would only come for the lost sheep of Israel'' as Jesus claims.
    Really a lot of seperation-issues do people have. Just like in Hebrew the word goy originally did not excluded Jews in the bible, meaning ''nations''. But centuries later in Yiddish etc. the word goy got more and more the meaning of ''non-Jew''. So yeah, people have cultural issues in all kind of groups.

    No Jews in England at that time?
    Why then does HaShem say that Israel has been scattered among every nation of the earth?
    Because His word is eternal, there isn't any nation established which is without the seed of salvation that has been planted in the Jews that they may be fruitful among the nations, leading all on the Way of the circumcision of our hearts and minds.
    Of all who seek their life and being in the Lord, that is, in the Spirit and the Word of Truth which came to the world through the Holy One of Israel, who is the King of kings of kings.
    There is far less division when each of us drop the act of being puffed up by knowledge. It is not even our knowledge, but all is of HaShem. A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand; therefore, let us give our lives to the Father through the following of His Word and His Spirit.
    Hear O Israel! The LORD our God, the Lord our God is One!

    In the narrative, Jesus randomly wanders off into the region of Tyre and Sidon. It's clearly an insertion into the narrative, like a side-quest in a video game. Then the dog calling occurs.
    Christians will interpret this as progressive revelation pointing to the commision, which comes _after_ the resurrection. Jesus' ministry is not yet for the gentiles. They will say this was included to show faith as being paramount over the law (remember, these gospels were written under the influence of Pauline theology).
    Matthew is the most 'Jewish' of the gospels, reflecting Judaism and the law as it was at the time. But when you read it, you begin to realise there's an anti-Jewish theme. There's this passage; the incident where the servants of the high priest refuse to enter the Roman buildings before the Sabbath; and then the condemnation of Jesus, where they say, 'let this blood be on our heads and our children's.'
    At face value, it's a little story showing Jesus using bigotry to teach a theological point to his disciples. They may have thought this way about gentiles -- Jesus was a fringe rabbi leading a group of zealots or essenes, probably a revolutionary -- but the text is too sparse and contrived (by later generations) for us to truly know whether it's a legitimate historical view.
    I like the observation in this video that Christians consider God Jewish, but Jews don't. Nice riposte.

  • @steele0strella

    Great question, excellent answer and perfect delivery. It's good to remember that the Gospels include code language to keep it's secrets hidden from evil doers, like "water" doesn't mean literal water, it means the oral Torah and there are many keywords like that. Jesus said he came for the lost sheep of Israel, and that "salvation is of the Jews" and this video podcast goes to prove that.
    Yes, society can and has functioned in different places with only the literal interpretation of the New Testament, but we have been seeing 2000 years of war, poverty, famine, "end times" paranoia etc and so we can assess that any literal interpretation has proven its flaws. Literalist might reconsider their reading of all scripture for isn't the word of G-d equal in literation but more importantly in Spirit? Is there not always a point of light✡ in between the object ☦and the mirror✝?
    It says in the Gospel that John the Baptist was beheaded and his head delivered on a tray, wouldn't it be safe to assume that rather than some woman asking for a bloody human skull, she was instead asking for his mind, the teachings of his knowledge of Torah likely written down? It also said his head was buried. Could it be that he wrote out a text that holds valuable teachings for both Christianity and Judaism? Could finding the lost "head" of John the Baptist summon in the coming of Moshiach?
    Thank you Rav Singer

From that point on, anyone born to a Jewish mother is a Jew, and is obligated in the Jewish commandments of the Torah. Likewise anyone born to a Gentile mother is a Gentile (one of the Children of Noah), and is obligated in the Noahide commandments of the Torah.

    But when Y’shua said to go to the House of Israel, He was saying both houses. The northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah. The northern kingdom was scattered to the four corners of the earth. I believe that many of the lost sheep of the House of Israel, believe that they are gentiles, when in fact they are of the H.O.I.
    I was thinking when you talked about the Jews were saved from Egypt, and this is true, but there were 12 tribes at Sinai, not just one. And you are right about “others” that are not of Israel being grafted into the covenant, because the sojourners came out with Israel when YHWH saved them out of Egypt. They had to be circumcised, and to keep the Passover. There is one Torah, for the native born and the stranger.

      This once will I cause them to know
      My hand and My might;
      And they shall know that My name is the LORD.

      But he didn't read the whole Passage in Context
      Matthew 15:23-28
      New American Standard Bible 1995
      23 But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting [a]at us.” 24 But He answered and said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But she came and began [b]to bow down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” 26 And He answered and said, “It is not [c]good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 But she said, “Yes, Lord; [d]but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed [e]at once.

    The Rabbi is forgetting the rest of the story about the woman from Canaan. Jesus healed her daughter as she requested, showing that Jesus did not think that she was a dog. He was merely repeating what was popular sentiment among the people to make a point, and then he acted to heal the woman’s daughter despite her being a Canaanite.

      It appears that you may not have fully engaged with the material presented.

      @ The key take away has nothing to do with the issue of the perspective of the authors of the Christian Bible. The key take away is in the text of the wording of the story itself as it stands. Start with the actual text, before conflating it with other things. Jesus mimicked that the woman was a dog because that was the popular attitude among the people, including some of his disciples. And then he show this mentality was corrupt by his actions to heal the Canaanite woman’s daughter instead. It is pretty straightforward.

      The caller stated that the Sacred Divine Hebrew Scriptures refer to gentiles as 'dogs".. Rabbi correctly states that it is jesus in the christian book that called people "dogs".... not the Sacred Divine Hebrew Scripture.

      Any Gentile who accepts the Seven Noahide Commandments, and is careful to observe them, is truly a pious individual of the nations of the world, and merits an eternal portion in the future World to Come. (And with this merit, the person will be included in the Resurrection of the Dead).
