I really enjoyed the fight from kortana’s view, although would be good to have it in Picture in Picture. But given the 7th fleet being attacked when they haven’t actually done anything but scramble aircraft, they’ve declared war on the US, which I’d expect many nations to bring in equipment.
I mean I doubt that. Heading full sail into Chinese waters in wartime after explicitly saying its to intervene in what is technically a civil war is itself an act of war. If you pull a gun on someone you can't play the victim if they shoot first. Idk how it would go down in the states; losing a nuclear aircraft carrier in a war without even going to congress first let alone getting the consent of the people. Public reaction in the states would be insanely divided.
@@92HazelMocha They were still in international waters at the time. An argument can be made for posture but no they were not yet in Chinese waters. They were well further than twelve nautical miles away from any shore which is the recognized border for international waters.
@@92HazelMocha They were on Taiwan's side of the line. Y'know, the part that BLUFOR navies sail through regularly? I do believe that public opinion would be divided, though, but we argue about "potato salad or coleslaw" these days.
@@PhoenixT70 The question I'll pose is this; if it happened the other way around, a Chinese CSG sailed towards the US, got within 200nm of the coast, and launched fighters as we were actively having a military conflict, and had recently said they would intervene if we did, would we not consider it an act of war and sink their ships without waiting for further escalation?
@@92HazelMocha Fair, but legally, the Chinese are in the wrong here. Realistically, you’re right, but when have politics ever cared about reality, Bismarck notwithstanding?
If this were to become real, China would have neutralized all Taiwanese airfields with cruise missiles, then airstrike waves would be timed such that there would be round-the-clock aerial engagement with no breathing room for the Taiwanese air force. There won't be a "First strike" or "second strike" concept. God forbid, hope we all live in peace.
Well the east coast airbases and auxiliary runways is still a little hard for PLA ballistic and cruise missiles to effectively neutralized, unless PLAN could maintain absolute control over the Pacific ocean beyond the first island chain, or deploy nuclear warhead, ROCAF would probably still be able to maintain a decent amount of 4th gen fighters to harass PLAAF operation. From what I had heard, the Taiwanese defender have predict that the west coast airbases and runways, and will not be operational under constant bombardment, which they had already planned to abandon after the first air engagement happened, and would rely mostly on their "SAM WALL" for air defence. Do note that Taiwanese Phased Array Warning System is able to detect almost every PLA aerial movements.
I'm not too sure about that. For one, the chinese are notoriously bad at command and control with larger operations like this being a nightmare to coordinate even for the US. Though China is getting better at CnC its unlikely they could pull off anything like that. In addition even if they have the aircraft and air crews to continue a several day round the clock air operation of this magnitude it's unlikely the ground crews could. They have to have air traffic controllers, refuelers, munitions armers, maintenance crews, ect all working essentially non stop as long as that is going down. That would very quickly overwork and tire them leading to mistakes and after even a few days just plain collapse of the ground crews.
I am amazed by the simulation that you are using for these battles. Your battles are better than a lot of movies I have seen. Your detail is awesome and your human pilots are very talented.
I cant believe so many complained that it was boring. The depth you go into I find the interesting part. What can be fielded, the different units, capabilities etc.
A very serious blow to the US fleet to lose their carrier that easily and so soon into the campaign. Speaking of which, can we see the Chinese vectoring their own carriers and ships to help out ? Also kinda bummed we aren't seeing any human pilots for the PLAAF side.
I would just watch it for entertainment. In real life no American naval vessels would be sunk, because American Admirals are fully aware of China's A2/AD capabilities and would have stayed well out of range, basically nullifying the existence and usefulness of the 7th Fleet. Also in real life China would have neutralized all Taiwanese airfields with cruise missiles before launching manned airstrikes. The airstrike waves would also be timed so it would be round-the-clock engagement without giving the Taiwanese air force any breathing room. God forbid for a real engagement, hope we all live in peace. Regarding no human pilots for the PLAAF.....if you watch any of Grim Reaper's series, most of his videos place China as the enemy by default. Some of his comments also exhibit subconscious racism towards the Chinese but obviously he doesn't realize it. I'm just used to it and still give him the thumbs up for every video he uploads.
Brilliant work Cap! What an effort into setting up this scenario. Kortana and Simba's flying is inspired. What now? Well as you say, the remaining 7th Fleet ships, after their massive rescue operation, will become an expensive and powerful air defense screen to Taiwan. When the news of the loss of the Ronald Reagan hits the US public, strong cries for escalation will result in the insertion of maybe 3 additional CSGs, including the one with the F-35Cs aboard. This may take time, they may not show until Part 4, as a Pacific transit will be at least a week. Theater ballistic systems will be involved as well, though I doubt any of that can be modeled in DCS. Great series!!!
I think "strong cries for escalation" is a stretch. No one watches the news anymore so when half the country finds out via Facebook that we lost a carrier in foreign waters off the coast of a country people didn't even know we were near, half the country is going to blame it directly on the WH. And after GWOT, many will suspect it was intentional to get the US wrapped up in another conflict. Idk if we'd send another CSG, but either way the internal turmoil would be probably higher than the height of the Vietnam War. Also I doubt we'd send more than one, simply due to the fact that we wouldn't want to pull out of other theaters so hastily.
@@92HazelMocha Although i agree with you on some points, I think you're underestimating how much Americans like to fight. The sinking of an Aircraft carrier would be the main story on all social media platforms as well as typical news media. The US doesnt like getting punched in the face and certainly this would be stirred into a "Pearl Harbor" like propaganda effort. Of course, mis-information campaigns from the Chinese would flood social media, but I think most Americans would want revenge. Also, the US gov doesnt need support from the public (Afghanistan and and Iraq shows the US is willing to fight an unpopular war for almost two decades).
@@n1ckf00c I don't disagree that Americans love to fight, it's that we mostly fight amongst ourselves. I've literally had people tell me that it was "good that the taliban won" in Afghanistan. That's how skewed the view of many Americans is these days. While I agree that the government would react without the consent of the people, which was often in the case in GWOT, I feel like the public outcry would be pretty severe, and made even worse by the fact that half the country would be on board for a retaliation.
@@92HazelMocha yeah that's totally true. Lots of divisiveness in this country currently. It would immediately be political with bad hit takes from both the left and the right. I'm guessing that in this scenario the US would launch MASSIVE cruise missile strikes throughout China to give us time to make a decision on how much to commit to the defense of Taiwan and to build up any forces/coalition as necessary.
@@n1ckf00c That seems like a much more realistic response, low risk of endangering US personnel, no boots on the ground, and precision munitions mean super low risk of civilian casualties.
Great series this is an excellent showcase on DCS and it's limits but also it's potential. Also flying in this video was spectacular! Cortana canyon run?
Excellent work I should add. Day #1 was a real nail-biter. Day #2 perhaps less dramatic than Day #1, but Day #1 was so good that saying Day #2 was less just highlights how good Day #1 was.
Cap - next time DONT brief the players on Chinese tactics or positioning as that's a massive, unfair and unrealistic stance to expect the Blue force to have perfect advance knowledge of the enemies intent. You should instead vector the players in real time only based on the FC's best guess and interpretations of the Chinese actions?
I'm wondering if you could legitimately say that the Americans have some birds in orbit that can at least relay some info? Wonder how you'd model ASAT ops in DCS?
@@technicalfool - You may get some type of radar signature detection to classify targets, but you definitely wouldn't know their weapon loadouts, mission type, or target in advance. They would need to be deduced on the day of the operation!
@@Draksyl no we would know that for sure from at least 3 different intel assets. As a mater of fact If we thought it was about to go down for real those planes would never have a chance to leave the ground.

And if the Chinese do their preparation properly there won't be any SIGINT before they launch the operation either... That only leaves GEOINT which is wide open to misinterpretation.....
My only complaint would be cap is giving far too much information to taiwan defense team basically giving them a god like oversight a thousand times greater than any radar system, equivalent of a spy giving every detail of the Chinese attack plan to taiwan . Channel& videos are amazing though
The human players now a loot yes but I do not think that's that much of an advantage for the outcome compared to sending the Japanese squadron and the 7th fleet on a suicide mission. I mean the Japanese squadron wouldn't just have flown straight at china as they know sams and stealth jets would great them. I also think the 7th Fleet would have been station behind Taiwan to get better protection of the carrier.
1. Kortana is a machine. Amazing flying there, the onboard shots had me on the edge of my seat. 2. If the US has lost a carrier, due to Chinese aggression like this... all hell will break loose.....(fingers are going to be hovering over red buttons), and big strikes incoming in multiple theaters. From Japan and Korea into China, possibly the Indian forces are going to get really jumpy too. before you know it everyone is shooting at everone....Would go way beyond this simulation. This really would start WW3 if China ever tried to take Taiwan. 3. One observation, I'm not at all convinced that the US carrier group would A. Approach from that bearing my feeling that they most likely would swing out wide and come in from the "friendly" side of Taiwan ( somewhere from the direction of Antalya in Turkey on the real word map) and B. Would of stood off much further and sent the F/A 18s in with a refuel on the way to Taiwan, at least until force could be built up on Taiwan and or other carriers could arrive. Same sort of thing with the Japanese, feel they would of transited a bit further from the coast. But that said, thanks for a great video Cap, and all your hard work!
Now the geopolitical situation is about to get interesting, to say the least..... Wiping out a whole squadron of Japanese F-15s and sinking a US carrier; good luck explaining that 😬 Looking forward to the next video of this series (if there's anything planned)👍

I think the response in the US would be outrage, with half at China and the other half at the US govt. Imagine missing the news for a day or two and suddenly a whole US carrier is at the bottom of the ocean. It would be Vietnam all over again.
@@Mmm-sx2ui Or eliminate the condition of the war in advance. I suppose that's why you see international ships and airplanes wondering around the strait from time to time. No one would really want the war to happen from any side unless there's a mad man in power.

sadly not possible to get more than e or 4 humans into Wargames. Reason is we have to use many un-official mods to get these to work which procludes 90% of the human players.
Love the idea of taking this war-game approach to historical hot-spots when conflict was very possible or even seemed imminent to explore a few "what-if's". late 80's last gasp soviet offensive for instance?
Love your Wargames series. You should expand it. Indo-Pak, Sino-Indo (there is a standoff going on the Sino-Indo border, North-South Korea, Israel-Arab conflict etc
There's also the fact that there are land based missiles from the PLARF(Rocket artillery) that fields stuff from simple rocket artillery as all the way to df-17s and df-21s, and nuclear capable df-41s. Additionally, there's the PLAN with their type 55 and type 52D destroyers all lobbing missiles both at Taiwanese jets, and ground targets. Pretty much, if this were to play out in real life, Taiwan would fall before the Americans or the Japanese would have time to react, let alone get that information to the top decision makers.
Do you think China is the only side making plans? Attacking taiwan would not go over well for china. The rest of the world is tired of their shit. The Australians just raised the price of coal for china. I hope the chinese economy collapses before we are forced to wage war on them.
@@everettreimers148 Well their plan is to only use the amphibs and landing craft to secure a minimal beachhead, supress the beachead from the air, and ship in the rest on commercial ships
Taiwan knows they would lose (eventually), the question is how much damage the CCP can sustain and whether victory is certain in a short period because a drawn out invasion would place the CCP in a dangerous situation domestically. Nuclear is irrelevant, if they use nuclear then this thing would spiral out of control to epic global warfare in an instant.
@@Tankerpaul223 No, china is not the only one making plans, but they hold all the advantage, absolutely all. The rest of the world can be tired of this how much they want, does not mean they will do anything, most of them do not have any capability to act and about everyone are dependent on trade with China, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Philippines and many more would have an economic downfall without the trade. And Australia did not rises the price, China stoped using it and Australia are badly damage by this. For USA to go to war would mean a economic crise, thousands of dead and most experts do not believe they would aid Taiwan.
The 44th and 67th FS fly F-15Cs from Kadena,Okinawa. Anderson AFB ,Guam much further away has rotational units as well but the composition and Squadrons change.
Very commendable effort by SuperCap to make the simulation as realistic as GRly possible. I assume there are no S-400 mods in DCS? PMU-1/2 isn't the most capable air-defence system in the China any more. And I remember some 24 (?) Chinese Su-35's being stationed in the area, being somewhat sure it's not just a coincidence. Also, the point that was made in the past, that human players don't affect the outcome, seems less and less convincing each time. Maybe Cap and his aces could change colors every other time?
@@SteveSun89 As it is always been the case. Still, China has the Russian support. Although, for what degree -- I couldn't say. I highly doubt they will commit all the way, as the American allies would. But in the worst case scenario, if things will get out of hand, the West would have to deal not only with China, but also with Russia. And that is a war they cannot win, regardless of the public opinion or the sentiments of their people. I only hope the decision makers understand that. Western greed made China as strong as it is today, and the West has no means to prevent China from absorbing Taiwan, unless WWIII is considered to be a viable option.
@Grim Reapers: I was just going through reviewing some of your older videos. Have you considered doing this series over again using the latest US 2020 carrier group and Chinese type 055 mods you now have to use? I don't think geopolitics should factor in total war, because that brings in nuclear weapons, at least used tactically. What it might be is something like the Falklands War styled regionalized warfare, where a total exclusion zone is set up. This is essentially what happened during the Korean war too, Where China and the US fought directly in an UNDECLARED war, but both sides didn't attack outside of the Korean Peninsula to limit the risk of the war going nuclear.

I don't know how to fly but I'd love to learn, but in the meantime I'll simply watch, admire, and join your Discord. Top notch guys and gals!
Thanks Mars :)
Cortina flies like a Jedi. Simba has the skills too.
You don't see as much from Simba's perspective as he doesn't typically record, but he can really do some damage in that F-16!
Amazing video. Loving the War Games immensely. It also has to be said that Kortana is a BOSS.
LUV it! Great flying folks, watching Kortana fly was mesmerizing!

The wargames is my favorite! Every time a new videos drops I always hope it's a new scenario. I've really been enjoying the WW2 with modern planes episodes.
Cap your Killin it!! Love these war games... Watch you and the Reapers each day!! Thank you for the daily uploads! Love this series, Pearl Harbor and Dragon absolutely Brilliant... Much Love and Hats off to you and the Reapers!!
Loving the kortana cam footage.
:)
The Taiwan campain is one of my favorite WarGames series. I hope you do some Vietnam and Near East (Israel) campains in the future, too
If this were to become real, China would have neutralized all Taiwanese airfields with cruise missiles, then airstrike waves would be timed such that there would be round-the-clock aerial engagement with no breathing room for the Taiwanese air force.
If I ever go to war, I want Kortana on my side please.
:)
Idk, I want to be as far away from her as possible cuz you bet the high command will send aces like her to the most dangerous areas.

Can't believe some people saying these are boring. Loved the first and this Taiwan vid. Appreciate all the work you put into these cap
thx. Pretty addictive for me also.
I am hyped for this new series. Many small flashpoints around the globe right now that we can sim out.
I am amazed by the simulation that you are using for these battles. Your battles are better than a lot of movies I have seen. Your detail is awesome and your human pilots are very talented.
I agree, watching this is far more fun than watching a movie.
Kortana is an amazing pilot. Fantastic flying!

Cortana is flying so sickkkk!!! My humble congrats for you, mam... I am absolutaley amazed.
Kortana flying the mirage seems so natural! Great Pilot! What do you do for a living? Fly for the Airforce if you have the time 🙂😁
One thing really surprised me, none of the f-18s even tried to engage the anti ship missiles?
AI not programmed to shoot even slow missiles :(
I know! I'm super surprised not a single jet made any attempt to stop the anti-ship missiles.
Love it when you've added the cam from the pilots - it adds a lot of hype.
Kortana deserves an award for that flying, god damn. Make a medal of a plane with grass stains on the bottom.
lol, I love it!
Kortana is and impressive gamer pilot , dodging all those pl15 and winning a few dogfights the mirage 2000 works for her
Holy shit, the cockpit view of Kortana evading only dozens of feet of the ground had my heart in my throat
I cant believe so many complained that it was boring. The depth you go into I find the interesting part. What can be fielded, the different units, capabilities etc.
Love the you got some pilot perspective footage in here. It adds quite a bit to an already excellent series.
I like how the host asks for feed back at the end of the vid and then immediately talks over her when she starts speaking.
Oh right! Imagine a future campaign where both sides have human pilots and we may even see human vs human fights!
nobody wants to be from the side of PLA, lol!
@@bohan9957 yes the unconscious bias AKA racism. Gtfoh with that BS could be just the fact that he doesn't like nor respect their government

Crazy skills from Kortana - o m g
:)
This is actually amazing, I loved the human tactics part

39:49....holy shit, this is unreal! I got adrenaline from just watching that. Superb flying by Kortana, still keeping cool as a cucumber!
Great series this is an excellent showcase on DCS and it's limits but also it's potential. Question do you have fiber optic internet and if you aren't running off of a server is your PC system setup to keep your tea hot or can an average PC run similar simulations? Also flying in this video was spectacular! Cortana canyon run?
Sadly I am stuck on copper internet here :(
Excellent work I should add.

Hello Cap! I love this new series, keep it up! Maybe a late 80’s Soviet Union vs United States Bearing Strait fight later?

My only complaint would be cap is giving far too much information to taiwan defense team basically giving them a god like oversight a thousand times greater than any radar system, equivalent of a spy giving every detail of the Chinese attack plan to taiwan . Channel& videos are amazing though
The human players now a loot yes but I do not think that's that much of an advantage for the outcome compared to sending the Japanese squadron and the 7th fleet on a suicide mission. I mean the Japanese squadron wouldn't just have flown straight at china as they know sams and stealth jets would great them. I also think the 7th Fleet would have been station behind Taiwan to get better protection of the carrier.
kortana is a BEAST wtf
:)

Do the Chinese have enough landing craft and amphibious ships to overwhelm the massive number of Taiwanese conscripts tho

Problem is they are all American and don't want to fly for China :( No S400 mods yet.
@@grimreapers Well, I guess that's understandable, but somewhat unfortunate non the less.
@@Struktualnyj Unfortunate is right. Shows what a great job the west have done to manufacture consent for the next war.

I don't think geopolitics should factor in total war, because that brings in nuclear weapons, at least used tactically.
What it might be is something like the Falklands War styled regionalized warfare, where a total exclusion zone is set up.
This is essentially what happened during the Korean war too, Where China and the US fought directly in an UNDECLARED war, but both sides didn't attack outside of the Korean Peninsula to limit the risk of the war going nuclear.
nuclear weapon usage protocols are very strict in every nation, unless mainland china is under threat of invasion, nuclear weapons wont be used
