Just got my first greenovias this week! I had no idea they opened up after dormancy! Very informative and you told me what I needed to know about them to help them thrive - thanks!
So glad I came across this video. I have two of these and no clue as to how to take care of them. I hope they don’t die on me and grow big like yours. Very informative. Thank you.
I don't have these but you are very informative!
Thank you , I know this was 3 yrs ago but I just bought several of these & love them ! Of course they are in dormancy right now but I can't wait to see them wake up 🥰
Enjoyed. Put me on the list for purchasing one of ur babies! It'd be great to find a reputable dealer!
Something that NO ONE has ever explained to me- so I hope you can. How do plants go dormant (or not) when they’re grown indoors with grow-lights? It’s pretty much the same weather inside all the time. I had a feeling (since no one could answer me!) that most of my succs were going dormant this summer so I left them alone. And now in the fall we’re picking up again.
Also my greenovia - one leaf is curling. Bad?
They are really pretty!!! Thanks for the information.
I have some of these as well! Thank you for the video!
Thank you so much for this video! I too would like it twice. I’ve purchased several and it’s October and they are very awake. They are in my house, wood heat in a south facing window. I’m just wondering when I can expect them to go back to sleep? I planted them all in one pot when they came and now that they’re open they are very crowded. Can I separate them now or should I wait till they go dormant?
I'd love to see vids on all sorts of succulents actually. I think it would be great!
You did such an informative video! I’m going to look for these beautiful succulents, and try my hand!
They are so beautiful, thank you for the video!
This may sound like a strange comment, but these are too plain for me. Which is a good thing, because I learned about a new plant that I don't feel an urge to buy. ! But I do have an aeonium, so the information is very helpful and thorough.
inhim7777777, I totally understand that! I feel the same way when I find a new succulent that I DON’T instantly NEED! 🤣. Kind of a relief that not ALL succulents hit my fancy! 😉
inhim7777777 there are pink ones too!
Joshua Mize, I NEEEEED some of pink ones! Trying to wait till I have a greenhouse, but MAN there are too many gorgeous plants! 😊☺️
Very informative. I found some last month and wanted to get them but they didn’t look good. Kinda withered. I think I’ll get them now that I know more about them 😊
rooting hormone? What do you use? Mine came with no roots and I've taken a couple leaves off, hoping some roots will form. So far, no luck. Any recommendations to create roots? I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance!
Tanya A we are in the same agenda
Hello Ashley! I love this video, but I am stunted bec I don't know how to stimulate rooting for these lovely succs. Can you give me tips on how to produce roots? Thanks if you can reply. Love
Do you remember the name of the one that does not die after blooming? Thank you for this video!
I wanna to like it again ❤️!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Tenho uma Grenovia bem pequena , aqui no Brasil dizem que é muito difícil de cultiva-la .
Faz três meses que adquirir e não encontrava vídeo assim , obrigada pelas dicas .
Is that a grasshopper at 0:15 top right, on your planner?? 👀
I just received one of these it doesn’t have any roots , how I should plant it and water?
How do you make a greenovia close up (dormant) (like a rose 🌹) mine looks like the first big one you put down onto the glass tray.
I bought one a month ago. It has a long stem. I don’t know if it’s the similar one as yours. Mine has 2 babies growing on the stem below. I’ve been courageous to grow it in a small ceramic pit without a hole. I’m careful with the watering and crossing my fingers hoping it will survive, more because Ive just developed an interest in growing plants 😁
Ceramic pot ... not pit 🤣
Such informative video and lovely plants! I have 3 greenovias and aureum. I was wondering what time of the year do they produce pups?
Did you get them with roots or with out when you first got them? Im asking because I got one without roots and dont know what to do with it
Hi! Now that you’ve had the greenovia for longer what do you suggest for soil. Do you think that Superfly Bosnia succulent and cactua soil mix will be a good for it?
And Its 2020 And I just got one used!
My kingdom for a succulent. I love😍 these but I dont have
excellent!!
Hello! I want to ask how to make them root when they are dormant? And how often do you water when they are sleeping?
I just got mine in June, and it came in a tight ball
Hi there.. tq for posting.. just got mine today.. need some tips, one of the greenovia is blooming.. but the other 7 is dormant as u were saying.. should i water them or what.. im worried 😁
Hello, I purchased a greenovia dodrantalis from etsy and was wondering if you could give me some advice. When it arrived the roots looked dormant so I gave it some water therapy and noticed new roots growing so I potted it but it does not seem to be doing well. What do you do with yours when you get them in the mail?
Shalece Stoffers, how much are you watering it? And what exactly doesn’t look good? Is it drying up, are the leaves off colored, digging down into the soil, curling? And what type of mix is it in, and about how much direct sun a day does it get?
Sorry so many questions! 😂. Just trying to give you the best help I can, but I need to know a few more factors! 😉
Ok. So the plant I received is a mini cluster. It has a tiny woody stem with small roots that also look woody. I potted it in succulent/cactus soil. It looked like it was opening up but then it started closing more and some of the tiny pups were drying out. It doesn't look really bad I am just trying to figure out what is going on before it gets worse. I have it in a south facing window. All my other succulents really thrive there. I am in a dry climate so I water about once per week. Will it go dormant when it is in the house? I hope I gave you enough info. Thank you
Shalece Stoffers, if it’s leaves are drying up I would suggest more water. These guys like a bit more water especially in their current active growth phase in winter. Especially after shipping you need to get the roots stimulated to produce new growth after the trauma of being shipped. As long as it’s in a very loose, gritty mix, you should water whenever it’s dry, even if that’s every few days until it recovers. It really depends how much light and heat it gets as to whether it will go dormant inside, but it should dry up if that’s what’s happening, it should just close up like a rose bud but the leaves are green and plump. Does that help at all? You could even try water therapy if it gets worse, but i would suggest just watering more, as long as the soil is gritty and dries out fairly fast. Sounds like it’s roots just haven’t woken up from the shock and aren’t up-taking water yet...
Ashley, where in the world did you get those beautiful plants. I can't find them online anywhere!
Craig, I don't know of any vendor that consistently has these unfortunately. (Or has them at all right now for that matter). I'm currently looking for a source to import them, which is what I do for many of my mesembs, and when I find a source you guys will be the FIRST to hear about it! These babies I got from an individual online. I took a big risk and could have got totally ripped off, but 9 months later, I'm very happy with them! But sadly she doesn't have more... 😢
The best advice I currently have is looking on Facebook groups that sell succulents and keep an eye out for when people have some. You have to be a little careful cause there are some bad scammers out there who take your money and then ship dead or different variety plants, but usually people spread the word fast and those sellers don't last long in the succulent circles. But I 100% agree with you they are almost impossible to find. Largely that's due to how rare they are in the wild, and their cultivation hasn't caught up with the demand yet. It's something I have to be careful about when sourcing, because I do not want to purchase from sellers who are harvesting from the wild, as they are getting close to extinction. I want to only purchase from sustainable growers, and that's proving tricky! But I am like a blood hound with these plants when I fall in love, so I have total faith I will find a source overseas, and as I said you all will be the first to know when I do! 💓
I got mine from succulentsdepot on eBay....If that helps at all. Please check her out well for yourself though since I've only bought one item from her.
Thanks, Truth
Thanks for the info, Ashley. You should grow them and sell them, they're beautiful!
Craig if my collection starts multiplying enough I certainly will! I sell other varieties off and on, but so far I've kept all these that I've been able to get my hands on! But hopefully one day I'll share! 😉
How big should pups be before propagating?
Does the weather in vietnam suitable for this to live ? :(
:*¨*:••:*¨*:• THANK YOU •:*¨*: they're BEAUTIFUL got to get some ALOHA
Why soak them in water as suppose to watering from the top?
Ruby Cornista the water gets trapped in the centers and either rot, leave hard water deposits, magnify the sun and cause sunburn, or simply damage the powdery coating on their leaves.
If you only use rain water it helps a lot, and watering from the top is less of an issue with rain water for sure. But with most well or tap water there are too many minerals and/or chemicals (in city water) and the water damages the leaves. So Watering from the bottom up prevents those common problems.
If you are able to mimic their natural environment, which would be crowded, bright light but not much direct sun, rain water, etc., then you can safely water from the top of course, because obviously these plants don't die in their natural environment from being watered from above with rain.😉
But most of us aren't able to mimic those conditions so I advise bottom Watering for succulents like this.
Hope that helps clarify!
I kill mine....really don't know how to take care them..... this really help.....
I have seeds coming soon
How often do they have pups?
They lool like tasty cabbage.
Aleksandra, they SO do! 😂🤣
Where did you get those there beautiful
Chim’s Garden Naturelover, I bought them from an individual that hasn’t had them since... 😢. Was a one time deal sadly, or id gladly point you in their direction! I suggest keeping an eye in plant groups, and watch for them in the spring. They ship much better dormant, so it’s hard to find them in the winter when they are growing. But they are really hard to find! I hope they get more common soon, because they are so lovely!
Aren't these just aeoniums ? They kinda look like mountain rose
ThatBatClover genus Greenovia was just recently re-absorbed into genus Aeonium. And yep, the common name the Greenovias are known by is “Mountain Rose”
It always die in my hand 😫
