Before you attack me over Rob Halford, I suggest you finish the video first.
Many people are missing the point of this video and coming after the people listed. I can't do anything about that other than expressing my disappointment.
There's another thing people seem to be misinterpreting, but I can clarify: I never stated BABYMETAL isn't metal. I'm fully aware that they are metal af, which is what got me into them in the first place. I even shared a picture of them listed among the best 10 metal bands of all times.
What I REALLY meant was that I can understand why other people may think they aren't metal and why we shouldn't get offended by it. Because they aren't JUST metal, they are much more than that single label. The snippet from FUTURE METAL wasn't used to back up the idea that they aren't metal, but that they are their own thing and striving to create their very own genre. A genre that isn't limited to just Heavy Metal.
Will this pinned comment stop people from making assumptions and attacking? Nope. But I still want to try 🤣

As for the David Reece comments on BABYMETAL “hurting” metal, they just never looked at the possibilities it could bring. What they thought of was “copy cats” arise and essentially destroy the genre but if they did some digging and a little bit of research, they would know that the music industry in Asia (especially in South Korea and Japan) you will get SLAUGHTERED if you do anything remotely similar to an already established artist. So copy cats are not rewarded.
However, the results bore fruits that these guys didn’t have the hindsight to comprehend. BABYMETAL is a bridge. A lot of people who love BABYMETAL who are not metal heads, ended up discovering more bands like BMTH, Sabaton, Judas Priest, Metallica (who are BMs favorite band), Arch Enemy, and so much more. Also, westerners who discovered BABYMETAL were introduced to the Japanese metal scene. They’ve become fans of X Japan, Hanabie, BAND MAID, LOVEBITES, and a lot more.
Also let’s not forget the significance of the fact that it also started a huge spike in numbers of Female bands and the rise in female metal fans too. I see it as a net positive for metal.

    • @NegoClau
      @NegoClau 11 месяцев назад +6

Same here man. Not a big fan of their earlier stuff without a real band onstage, but once they got a live band, that changed everything. Mikio Fujioka was one of my favorite guitarists, and he was one of the first to play with them, but he tragically died a few years ago. They have absolutely top notch world class musicians, the songs are meteoric, and they have an unparalleled stage show. Nobody else does it that good.

    • @jasonandrade6041

Having seen them live and having a great time at their show, I still think some of their popularity is undeserved within the metal space. They probably have one of the best backing band, and if it weren't for them, these girls would be no different from Pussycat dolls and Nicole Scherzinger is easily a much better singer than Su-metal. So I completely understand the frustration of other Japanese bands like Crossfaith.

It's funny that people seem to hate Japanese Idols because of the parasocial correlations the industry pushes on us but for some reason those same people are ok with Korean Idols.
The whole idea that Amuse is using Su, Yui, Moa, and Momoko as parasocial clickbait it asinine. They (Amuse and Koba) have done everything possible to keep the girls protected from that type of stuff. If they weren't, then all 4 girls would have more of a social media presence.

Look at how (mostly) Korean idol groups, and western female artists present themselves on stage, either half naked with only a thin top and denim shorts (very very short) or/and skin-tight suits that are cameltoe bait.
If you really are a singer/musician/dancer, why do you show up on stage as if that was your first step towards an onlyfans career?
I can't imagine Sharleen Spiteri, Enya, Susanna Hoffs, Ann Wilson, and many other GREAT female singers showing up dressed as wh0r3s, because each in their time, had/have true talent and skill.

Babymetal has always been the opposite of that, all covered up to the neck, skirts down to half the tight, being sexy was never the selling point.

_"It's funny that people seem to hate Japanese Idols because of the parasocial correlations the industry pushes on us but for some reason those same people are ok with Korean Idols."_
I think one of the reasons is that Korean idols seem a bit older in general and appeal to girls their age, while most people believe (wrongly of course) that Japanese idols are automatically 12 year old kids oversexualized by cynic corporations to appeal to 50 year old perverts, the West is just absolutely clueless about the Japanese idol scene while the Korean scene is spreading worldwide.

That generalization isn't incorrect. The first time I watched the video for AKB48's "Heavy Rotation" I knew right away this wasn't for me.
Go to an Idol concert in Japan and take a good look at who is in the audience. In Japan, a 17 year-old Idol is considered "old."
Kyoko Mikyake did an excellent documentary called "Tokyo Idols," and she's not very welcome in Japan after it premiered.

For me Babymetal is not metal also not jpop/pop band. Babymetal is like in the middle between both. They do create their own genre, their own world. Many metal fans hate them because it's too cute to be metal, and I don't think jpop fans accept them also because their music is too hard for jpop (unless you're SG fans). It's hard being Babymetal themselves because they don't easily accepted even in many music genre, it happen also with other music acts who break the rules, mixed or created new genre. Babymetal litteraly have their own world (ok metalverse). The true fans they will get is only from people who love music in general like me, the people who are open-minded and respect every music genre.
btw, it's also kinda sad but understandable that they're not allowed to have social media account and keeping their privacy very strictly I believe because it's too risky because all hates they get even until now.

I was pissed off at Benji Webb. At the time, I was still on a minor BABYMETAL hate trip as I'd only seen a couple of very early videos and I wrote the act off as a shallow gimmick. I changed my mind completely when I eventually saw the MV for 'Karate' and I realised my initial reaction was way premature.
Anyway, even though I had no interest in BABYMETAL at that time, I just thought Benji was a complete asshole. I like a lot of Skindred's songs but the guy just showed how fucking disrespectful he is to other performers, particularly those for whom English is a foreign language. Not racist? Maybe, but you'd think he'd at least understand why people saw it that way. Nah, rude af for no reason.
For the record, so long as BABYMETAL has the Kami Band they are metal af.

Interesting that the only people that have been negative about Babymetal are people that desperately need publicity. More likely they are all jealous that young girls are far more successful than they could hope to be. I read an article from live wire about the top 10 albums that were only remembered for their cover. They go on to claim that The album Devine Intervention was Slayer's biggest flop, but was remembered for the album art. I was shocked, because I knew that couldn't be true. Took me 5 mins to search the album revenues. Divine Intervention was their second highest grossing album in their catalog, second only to South of Heaven. Beating out Seasons in the Abyss a close 3rd. My point being, that Live Wire contributors are supposed to be experts. Clearly, not...

I can say I love babymetal ,its fun its way cool and I look at the girls like my nieces or step kids .
I support them and take my hats off to them they work hard and care about their fans .and put on one hell of a show.
Someday I'd like to catch them live to see how good they sound live and in concert.
Those kids are doing it the right way and give metal its props in what they do. I think most of the detractors are just jealous .and will disappear ti the void while they will be remembered for just having a good time and being something different and just plain a great band to enjoy .
If you can't your to old and set in thought . There's room for anyone in metal and the fans have spoken . So crawl back to irrelevance as this band continues to reach audiences that proved the doubters wrong again .

Su's vocals is not a joke and the mighty Kami band is outstanding. And it's because of Babymetal I discovered Dreamcatcher, Rolling Quartz and Scandal. So, as far as our little metal sisters are concerned, Babymetal Rocks!

The 2 reason I can see why Metal bands and the Metal community disrespect Baby Metal is that.
1 Most westerners don't understand the kuwai music culture of Japan. To westerners it's creepy to see middle aged men geeking out over some kids who in some cases, girls who haven't reached puppetry.
    scene
Baby Metal is a marketing gamic that works in Japan because of the kuwai culture. Metal is a style of music that comes from within, not a board room. We can smell them back then, and we can smell them now. There are not too many 12-year-old girls that would listen to heavy metal. The girls in Baby Metal even confirmed this.

The girls do seem to be genuine metal fans and they're passionate about what they do. Being a silly gimmick does NOT exclude them from being good as well. ;) ( See: Weird Al Yankovich )

I must admit I was guilty of thinking Benji Webbe was talking crap about babymetal when I came across those videos. In both recordings, it does sound like he's saying "you guys fucking around?" But if you listen to it carefully it does sound more like "you guys rock", especially in the better quality recording and this can be corroborated by the fact that the presenter next to him nodded in approval which he wouldn't have done if it were the former. Also, I thought Benji was lifting his middle finger up after saying that but upon closer inspection it actually could be the fox sign, albeit difficult to say for sure. Anyway, thank you omajination for clarifying things and posting the kerrang article talking about what really happened. I probably wouldn't have known otherwise!

Also, writing Fred's comments off as a joke is problematic in itself. There is no context in which it is ok to say things like that about girls 15 and 17. None. Zero. There are tons of creeps around, remember the live photos and videos of the girls where the photographer purposefully took upskirt photos or videos of the girls bending over and uploaded them to the internet. A culture where Fred's comments are "just jokes" is directly responsible for vile shit like that.

There's two sides to the story at Sonisphere 2014. One side says there was a cancelation so Babymetal got moved to the main stage to help promote them. The other side of the story (the one I personally believe) was to move Babymetal to the main stage to destroy them. The girls were really nervous because the reputation of the Sonisphere crowd to throw bottles and other things at bands they didn't like. And here are three little Japanese teens trying to bring something new and different to a bunch of drunk metalheads. Fortunately, we all know how it turned out. However, I do believe the intention was for Babymetal to fail, be boo'd and rushed off stage, and disappear. The organizers were hoping for humiliation but turned it to celebration when the crowd went crazy for Babymetal. From my understanding, every shred of Babymetal merchandise was sold out by the end. It was a great catalyst for Babymetal's future.

Metal heads definitely love to gate keep. When Slipknot and Korn came out, many did whatever they could to distance themselves from them, and say they weren't metal for any number of reasons. I'm not a Babymetal fan, but thought the collaboration with Electric Callboy was fun as hell and loved it. Besides that song, not really going to put their music on my playlists, but I'm also not putting Five Finger Death Punch or Ghost or Disturbed on there either. Doesn't make them not metal to me. Enjoy Babymetal, it's music, have fun and love the music you love.
