  • In this lecture, I have briefly discussed the different components of a Removable Partial Denture (Cast Partial Denture).
    - The RPD, or the removable partial denture has a very unique structure made up of various different parts that give it a complete design.
    - A removable partial denture has in total 8 different parts or 8 different components.
    - The components of the Removable partial denture (Cast Partial Denture) are named as:
    The Major connectors
    The Minor Connectors
    The Rests
    The Direct Retainers
    The Stabilizing Component
    The Indirect Retainers
    The Denture Base
    The Artificial Teeth
    - Each of these component has a specific function to perform contributing to the stability of the removable partial denture.
    - There are many other types of the individual components that are making up the removable partial denture. that I will discuss in some other video.

    This was very helpful, thank youuu. I have a question too, what is guiding plane? It's mentioned in McCracken.

    • @studywiththedentist
      @studywiththedentist  3 года назад +1

      Guiding planes are those planes that generally are parallel to the path of insertion and removal. But for the proper definition : "Two or more vertically parallel surfaces on abutment teeth and/or fixed dental prostheses oriented so as to contribute to the direction of the path of placement and removal of a removable partial denture, maxillofacial prosthesis, and overdenture." (GPT).

    Question. I have been fitted for a lower partial cast metal. I am missing/replacing #29,30,31. My #28 is a pre existing crown. I can’t seem to find any pics or demos of this particular arrangement. Could anybody tell me what teeth this will clasp on to? I know my dentis said #28 for sure because it’s a crown and she can drill a clasp slot. But where else will it be anchored to? Note I have all my teeth other than these. I’m new to the denture world and kind of anxious. Thanks for any info!!!

    • @studywiththedentist
      @studywiththedentist  Год назад

      Actually it depends on situation to situation and giving a proper diagnosis let alone a treatment plan is not at all possible in this way. That being said, clasp arrangement is usually done based on the retention required for the denture and depends on the case.

    Hi!
    Is it a metal partial denture a good option today?
    Can I chew and eat well with it?
    Do the clasps damage the healthy teeth?
    Thanks!

    • @studywiththedentist
      @studywiththedentist  2 года назад +1

      Yes metallic denture (known as cast partial denture) is a pretty good one.
      If made right then you can chew, eat, speak, do whatever you want.
      And niether will the clasp damage your teeth. (If they are made right)
      Don't worry at all.
      Hope this helps :)

  • @_mahnoor_nadeem2464

    Is it necessary for an rpd to have a metal framework, we make an acrylic rpd w/o any framework and I'm confused because everywhere it is said that metal framework is a part of acrylic rpd?

    • @studywiththedentist
      @studywiththedentist  Год назад

      I understand your confusion. Actually, ideal RPD should be made with a metal framework, hence the book describes that metal frame RPD as the only rpd and therefore that id asked in exams. But here in Pakistan (and I believe India as well, not sure about the rest of world), we make dentures with acrylic frameworks as those are very cost effective and much easier to make.
      I will make a video on this topic explaining the types of rpd designs in dental practice very soon in order to clear confusions.

  • @dentistrythings7213
    @dentistrythings7213 3 года назад +2

    Sir i always get confused in indentifying the indirect retainer.
    Like they are used in distal extension cases.
    Like you showed 2 indirect retainer on either side
    What about on left side there is 2 indirect retainer or what

    • @studywiththedentist
      @studywiththedentist  3 года назад +2

      Indirect retainers are generally placed on the opposite of the fulcrum line. The requirement can be fulfilled by a single indirect retainer, if placed directly opposite to the fulcrum line ( as explained in the video). But since that would have inadequate support due to weaken tooth so, therefore, we place it abit farther away, and compensate for the increased distance with two indirect retainers.
      If it is still confusing, don't worry, I will make seprate videos on indirect retainers explaining it in more detail.

    Theres a major blunder in your design. Your indirect retainer is on the wrong side. What is the need for an indirect retainer in the 3rd quadrant?
