screen was flickering with no touch response. put the phone away for 3 years because it was out of warranty. I came across this video, my sister needed a phone. used your idea. BOOM!!! phone working perfectly. People like you make this world a better place. THANK YOU SO MUCH. SUBSCRIBED
My iphone 6 has been acting possessed for the last 6 months or so. Every... Single.... Time... I'd... Use... It...... Screen randomly stops working, sometimes the phone will unlock by itself, open the camera and snap a bunch of photos back to back and then shut down. If I had text open, it would randomly start texting a bunch of things like "fdsaklj asdjk 84,a 8arl dsa as" and then send the text.. ALL WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE PHONE.... Weird stuff randomly happening, but I refused to upgrade. I will never buy another iphone again. EVER.... I found this video as a last ditch effort before tossing this phone and going with an android, but this video worked. It's been 24 hours and my phone hasn't acted up once. THANK YOU
This guy is making videos to save us 100's of dollars and yet people are still giving him a hard time. Follow his instructions and it should work. If it doesn't, chances are, you have a different issue. Worked like a charm for me. Thanks man!
I posted a few weeks ago that after I purchased the tools from Frys (you'll have to buy the ones specifically for Apple - about $15) I had a problem in doing this because one of the microscopic screws was already stripped at the factory. I couldn't drill it out (worried about damage to the sensitive mechanisms) and finally gave up. But then the Apple store told me that it would cost $150 to repair, or I could buy a new phone (with the same flaw) - and blamed it on ME! So I then reread the posts here and saw one of the posters only took the back off (about 0:48 into the video), then, put the tape bundle *on top* of where the touch censors as opposed to going through the complete dismantle, and he swore it worked. So I did the same, wrapping the tape around a couple of more times for good measure. It works GREAT! No problems...THANK YOU RODY!!
I highly recommend to anyone doing this that you draw a map of the internal layout of your phone and draw little circles where you take a screw out, placing that screw on the map. It's vital that you replace the SAME screw where you took it from as they are different sizes.
My aunt’s touch screen failed the other day and she didn’t have a backup saved. This method worked and I was able to get the screen working to take a backup! The only problem I had was removing the standoff screws since I didn’t have the right screwdriver, however I was able to finagle it with a flathead.
Already replaced the phone and it was just sitting around. Took it to a repair shop to ask about fixing it for one of my kids. They told me about the touch disease then. (An entire year after the issue and I was never contacted as being a 6plus owner). The repair shop quoted “at least $140 and the phone isn’t even worth that much”. So daughter was willing to twist it to get it to work, but that seemed stupid. Just paid $11 for a precision toolkit and followed the steps and it’s working with no bending! Good enough for me! Thank you!
Hi Rody. I would just like to give a massive thank you to you for posting this video. My iPhone 6 Plus was having major problems with an unresponsive screen, and, after following your instructions, thanks to you - My phone is now fully working again with a fully responsive screen! I'm so grateful for selfless, kind people like you who take the time to post videos to help others. God bless you my friend! Thank you so much!
Hey man just wanted to thank you for this fix! I replaced my screen and still had the problem. figured it was touch disease but didn't want to pay for my phone to be fixed by apple. Took me about an hour to insert the tape and BINGO! it works as good as new. don't listen to the "haters", a wise man once said if it's stupid and it works... it ain't stupid. Thanks again.
We don't hate. We're trying to prevent people from making things worse. Read the comments and you'll see many people in worse shape and with new problems. Most of the people who warn against this idea are members of a trained micro soldering community. Non of us make any money commenting here. These ICs are not simply lose. They have weak bonds from corrosion. Squeezing these corroded points back together is like putting a spacer at the back of a flashlight that has leaking batteries. The pressure might make the corroded connection work again, but it that really what you want to do?
i used this trick on my iPhone 6+ 128gb because it is such a great phone that i would hate to have it stop working. also this has worked great so far with no problems. thanks for instructing me on how to do this.
I performed this fix 2 months ago and my wife's phone is still working perfectly. Saved me the $350 plus dollars I was quoted for a fix. I had never taken a phone apart but found it to be relatively easy if you just take your time and take notes as you go. Thanks Rody
Exactly. This isn't that hard and yes, it is a fix. As good a fix as anything else out there. Even if it just holds me out long enough until my contract is out and I can get a new phone. Or better yet, wait for the iphone 8.
A good 4 months after doing this fix, my wife broke her screen. I've since replaced the screen and phone is still going strong. I'm still standing by this fix and the money saved towards my next upgrade whenever that comes.
NEED HELP!! My iphone 6 has a weird horizontal lines on its bottom of the screen. sometimes it showed up but sometimes its gone. now it had a lot of line than before.. please is there any advice ? :')
Hi there, I have followed your guide step by step. My phone is still as it was before i added the tape in. Is there by any chance another reason why my phone screen does not register touch or swipe? I've tried your method also i had brought a completely new screen. Im looking for any other suggestions to which the problem could be. I would get it repaired professionally which would cost a fortune but only as my last resort. Thanks
I started disassembling and got stuck when one of the internal screw was too small for my 1.2x40mm philips... any idea what size I should buy to get this one out? It's one of the top most center screws just a hair to the left of the front panel assembly bracket.
I have yet to try this repair but for those who don't understand the SCIENCE behind this. The tape forces the chip down onto the motherboard when its screwed into the housing of the phone. Basically your chip has become ever so slightly disconnected from the phone and this fix prevents u from removing the whole chip and replacing the solder. I'm going to try it out as ive tried a billion new touch screens and none of them work. Also the phone in question I plugged in a new touch screen and it worked for about 3 mins then stopped home and power worked for a min and a half eventually stopped working and hasn't worked since. UPDATE: Worked like charm! Nice thank you for your fix. I can micro solder I just really hate it!
Completely fixed my problem!!! Works perfectly!!!! And I don't like my cell phone at all, so your video saved me 250 dollars (price in Brazil for the fixing). Of course I've made a mess with the screws (I've never opened a cell phone before) and there's one left looking at me right now (I don't care!!!). But everything is working perfectly! Thank you very much!!!
how long does the tape have to be? I want to make sure I do perfectly the first time. I haven't had my iPhone 6plus in months sense I got this touch disease. PLEASE HELP!!!
It worked! My iPhone 6 Plus became infected with the no touch disease. I watched this video and preformed the operation and now my phone works perfectly! I used 3 little squares of electric tape. Thank you.
Großes Dankeschön!! Beim 2 Versuch hat es dann auch bei mir geklappt....Der kleber muss min. ca. 2mm dick sein, wenn er zu dünn ist, macht es keinen unterschied
This is the best band-aid fix ever. Works like a charm. My iPhone 6 Plus developed this issue recently, perhaps coincidentally after updating to iOS 11.2.1. Thanks so much.
Hi zenapsgas : unfortunately the issue did return. I think I could have added an extra layer of electrical tape and made it work, but instead I visited the Apple store and opted to replace my device for the price of a screen replacement. I have no regrets about trying this fix though!
never took a phone apart before was told my local cell repair phone was not fixable. Followed tutorial hour later full working function. Good job for getting this information out! keep up the awesome work!!!!
Man nice work. I did this repair back in Nov to my 6+ and it worked perfectly the first time. Haven't had a problem since. Don't mind all these tech shops that are hating on you. Not everyone has the $$$ to pay for these things. And they are losing money to the somewhat tech swave viewers who can preform this procedure following your instructions. Not meant for all. But keep up the good work man
Will this work on an iPhone 6? I don't have the grey bar, but my touch screen is constantly going in and out or "clicking" random places I haven't touched. I live several hours from the nearest Apple Store. Help!
Did this yesterday afternoon and it is still working. Usually it would have already glitched out by now and I am writing this msg from the same phone. Seem to have worked!!! Thanks man.
NEED HELP!! My iphone 6 has a weird horizontal lines on its bottom of the screen. sometimes it showed up but sometimes its gone. now it had a lot of line than before.. please is there any advice ? :')
Thought i would also leave the same comment on this new , After doing this the screen on my iPhone started working again, but now after 2 weeks the screen no longer works at all, It is turned on and my computer detects the iPhone but the phone doesn't do anything not even vibrate or make noise when I call it. Could it be a logic board problem? I have already tried restoring it and holding power+home nothing works.
can you get the insulating protective shields that go over the section? I'm doing one and and the last repairer didn't put it back so i can't anchor the fix down? Would like to put the correct one on otherwise I have to be creative and make one :-(
Haven't tried it but don't take the stupidness of people to heart, they're most likely annoyed that you found a way to fix a problem that makes them money, keep doing what ya doin, Great Job!!
Everything was going great until a piece of adhesive that is CLEARLY not present on the phone used in the video showed up on my iPhone and while trying to pull it up, I tore the flat connector. This is the connector you pull up and fold over beginning at the 1:56 mark of the video. Mine was held down tightly with adhesive that is not present in yours. Bummer. QUESTION: Can you tell me where I can purchase the connector in question? I am not a beginner as I have 3 teenagers and a wife and have replaced multiple screens and batteries on different models. Thank you.
I purchased the Apple screwdrivers at Fry's, and began to disassemble my Iphone 6. However, the second internal screw will not come out as it appears to have been stripped at the factory. How do you overcome this? Drill it out, and if so, does it have to be replaced?
I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you, for this post. I took a chance and removed the motherboard and followed your instructions, when I put everything back together I was getting grey lines and squares on the screen. I assessed what could be wrong which something must have no been reconnected properly, I re-did the process disassembled everything and to my surprise the apple logo popped up. I was back in business. This trick works. It saved me a lot of money.
I opened and adjusted the thickness of the electric tape three times, but it doesn't work. Eventually, I removed the tape and wanted to get back to the initial condition, but now it shows dark area on top right.
My phone screen originally was constantly flickering and turning off and on. After i tried this tutorial IT COMPLETELY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I couldn't believe that a piece of electrical tape would fix it but it did. Thanks Rody!
took me almost 2 hours to ope and close it but didnt work for me maybe because I put just single tape I didnt realise tgat it supposed to be thick. so I will do it tonight again and comeback for review if it willuuj work for me or not.
I completed your procedure in placing the electrical tape on those 2 chips and reassembled the Iphone, but I'm experiencing some vertical lines when all done, what is your suggestion in checking for?
i did this but my phone now has a brighter spot in the area??? did i just fuck up the screen? or can i simply go back remove some of the tape and itll go away?
I folded mine 9 times. I made it full width then cut it to precisely fit just on the two chips and not overhanging onto the board. Works perfectly the first time!! Take your time and do it right the first time. Take pictures and or keep your screws separated so you get the right screws in the right places!!! I believe there are 7 different kind of screws. Length and width vary. Other than that very good idea! I believe it's a better fix that heat gun soldering it back as it will keep the constant pressure on the chip so the problem does not come back!! Your the man! Thank you.
Will this overheat at all? Did this yesterday and worked until I started watching RUclips videos. Then it started having touch problems again. That area seemed a little warm on the phone
Great information. On your next video can you show me how to properly install a headphone jack in my iPhone 7? I messed up the last 2 times and am out of insurance claims.
I had to fold the electrical tape 8 times to get results and I now get intermittent responsiveness rather than none at all but my screen doesn't want to sit fully in place on the right side and my home button feels less secure. Could this be why I'm not getting full results and how do I get the screen to close with the additional thickness caused from the electrical tape?
This definitely works. Instead of tape, I cut a piece of a fairly thick rubber band and place it on the chips under that tape. Been working for almost two weeks without one little flicker. Thank you for this video.
My pretty new iPhone 6 screen responds sometimes but it stops responding only when I press the screen too hard and there are no white lines on the top of the screen... Is this touch disease?
Rody Davis i have done all the step exactly like in the video and fix my 6plus ,but 10min later my iphone cannot power on..i tried to charge and also reassemble it back but still the phone cant be turn on..how to fix it?help me please
This works! Aside from adding sim to the flex of the screen. Do i need to reduce the electrical tape that i put in to the ic? There is a huge bump on my screen and it will not fully close the screen
Hi! The solution proposed worked as a charm. I managed to map the screws not to miss anything while putting it back but know I have another problem. After assembling it I saw that the phone is really heating up in that area and sometimes even shutting off. Also the front camera is not working but it is connected properly. Any suggestions to what i might've done ? Any other users experience this issue ? Thank you!
It actually works but it seems to only be temporary. The first time I tried it didn't but the second time it works. but from time to time its going again so, I remove the screen and put some pressure to the board and it works
I did this. The keyboard "i " button was not working, the on and off side button wasn't working nor was the silent button wasn't working after i did this. i ordered a new screen digitizer and replaced it today. The keyboard i button is working now but the side switches still aren't working. Have any idea why?
I tried it today and the grey flickering lines are no more appearing on my lcd. However, my camera has gone pitch black both front and rear. I found it when i was trying to use my snapchat and it could not access my camera. I tried restarting my phone but it was unsuccessful. is there any solution?
Hi, My iphone 6 schreen stoped working a while back. It stays black and wont turn on. The rest of my phone is still working, but even when i replace my screen the same problem appears. I was wondering if this could be the same problem, because before my screen stoped working I noticed that I was having touch problems. I hope you have a clue why this is happening.
Thanks for the useful video. Mine just got "the disease" today. Sorry about all the trolls on here that seem to have a financial interest in people using their services so they go out trashing people who provide an alternative solution. Keep up the good work!
Although this may seem to work for some, it will defiantly not fix the issue in the long run and will make the issue work and possibly harder to repair in the future. Having an experienced tech work on it by replacing or re balling the touch IC and damaged pads will fix it correctly and for the long term.
Thanks for a Great fix-video! My 6 Plus is almost working now after putting in the tape. It still stops occasionally, but I can live with it until i get a new phone. BUT, my Wi-Fi signal is weak after the fix 😕, Do you think its just that I got too close to the antenna and broke it during the fix, or do you have any other idea, hopefully a solution? Thanks again 🙂.
Did the fix...tried turning phone on afterwards. Screen wont turn on. Tried hard resetting it. Screen is displaying flashing colors. Dont know what the problem is. HELP PLEASE. Dont wanna pay a arm and leg for fix!!
try another one. remove the tape and then put every component back to where it should be. Then, on the top right corner, there should be a L shaped metal plate with 5 screws. Unscrew it and place a micro sim card or anything about the same thickness and size then put right in the middle and on top of all those hidden cables so that the hidden cables are pressured enough for your touch screen to work again. Just make sure your screen is off and you powered off your phone the entire time. Try it if you still have your phone :)
Gabriel Serban Thanks for reminding to reply, the fix worked for about 3 hours and stopped responding again. It is easier to get responding with less bending now but I think I need to insert more electrical tape to apply more pressure.
My display some time touch and some time touch is failour so what I can do???? Some repair person told me that u r jack pin is failed but touch is working sometime so what I can do??
It's the same problem. This technique is not a fix. In your case not all of the joints were able to produce a viable connection. Squashing the BGAs onto the motherboard is bad mojo.
My phone has just started the touch disease. So in the last 24 hours maybe happened 3 times. Is it recommend doing the fix now or might it only happen now and again.
Have you tried or considered reflowing the solder with a heat gun instead of the tape? Also, is six layers of tape the magic number? There's no problem with the board distorting the LCD?
This works. Not sure for how long but it does. Just need a little bit patience. I am wondering if I send my iPhone to get screen replaced as suggested by the Apple tech, how can they fix this issue without swapping out a new logic board. Anyhow, many thanks for the video. It saved my time, money and potential frustration from the “repaired” iPhone.
Hey thanks for the awesome tip on fixing my Iphone 6 plus. I thought you moved too fast for me (Im a novice with Iphone repair) but i did use the electrical tape trick. I used another video which was much slower and more detailed. Your video was great but I think it was for more experienced Iphone repair folks. I realize you made that disclaimer in the beginning!! Thanks again!!!
Tried your procedure on my 6 plus! Initially ghost touch played for 2 minutes after phone gets little warm there was no ghost touch problem! I’ll update my comment once again ! Thank you !!
i just tried it because it seems logical. its functioning now but will give you an update in a few hours or days. thank you. really appreciate. in the case it happens again tho, i should try using a bigger piece of tape?
I went to the Apple Store today and asked about the Touch Disease, and they said it was caused by "flex cable" being bent. I said what about the fact it's the Touch IC failure and they said it is because they phone bends. They said they replace the phone with one that has never been bent at the price of a display replacement (Meaning it will have the issue again). Its sad that they are not even fixing the issue correctly.
I tried the tape trick last night and the phone is worse now. It harly reponds at all and will randomly open stuff with out me touching it. Does anyone have a follow along tear down and installation of all the screws and cables after being taken apart
Rody Davis you're welcome to mail it to me . I will replace the touch IC chips and guarantee a working phone, as long as you have not damaged anything else with this attempt.
The right way to fix this might be with micro soldering, but this hack worked for my iPhone 6 and has for over a week. Since it cost me time and a piece of electrical tape, I'm satisfied.
screen was flickering with no touch response. put the phone away for 3 years because it was out of warranty.

+Tyrell Malone thank you so much for sharing!
What Is the other tool you used? The 1.5? How can I find it? Is it just called 1.5?
Does it have to be a black tape only?
I opened and adjusted the thickness of the electric tape three times, but it doesn't work. Eventually, I removed the tape and wanted to get back to the initial condition, but now it shows dark area on top right.
My phone screen originally was constantly flickering and turning off and on. After i tried this tutorial IT COMPLETELY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I couldn't believe that a piece of electrical tape would fix it but it did. Thanks Rody!
took me almost 2 hours to ope and close it but didnt work for me maybe because I put just single tape I didnt realise tgat it supposed to be thick. so I will do it tonight again and comeback for review if it willuuj work for me or not.
im having the same issues on my iphone 6 do you think this will work if i do it
I completed your procedure in placing the electrical tape on those 2 chips and reassembled the Iphone, but I'm experiencing some vertical lines when all done, what is your suggestion in checking for?
PLEASE HELP my iphone fell apart when i dropped it and the piece that connects the top to the bottom little black t=strip is ripped what do i do
Hi Rody, thank you for the vid. My home button stopped working after the fix. Can you help. Thank you
You probably damaged the flex cable for it (the last one) just try reconnecting it
Taj Islam 2nd last flex cable I meant
it would be nice to have a video of you putting it back together
What do you do if some of the screws dont come out
what would happen if rubbing alcohol touches the ics?
i did this but my phone now has a brighter spot in the area??? did i just fuck up the screen? or can i simply go back remove some of the tape and itll go away?
Hey. Where do you get the toolset to fix this?
I folded mine 9 times. I made it full width then cut it to precisely fit just on the two chips and not overhanging onto the board. Works perfectly the first time!! Take your time and do it right the first time. Take pictures and or keep your screws separated so you get the right screws in the right places!!! I believe there are 7 different kind of screws. Length and width vary. Other than that very good idea! I believe it's a better fix that heat gun soldering it back as it will keep the constant pressure on the chip so the problem does not come back!! Your the man! Thank you.
Hi, I recently tried your method and it worked, my touch sensitivity came back but now I have no cell service whatsoever, all connections seem right
Will this overheat at all? Did this yesterday and worked until I started watching RUclips videos. Then it started having touch problems again. That area seemed a little warm on the phone
Also have a slight halo in that area of the touch screen(like a whiter area) where the tape would be. Could that be too much tape causing a problem?
Do you have this for iphone 5s users ?
Bro you are genius!!! This worked on my iPhone 6 iOS 12.4.9 Thanks mann. You saved my valuable time and money. Respect
Great information. On your next video can you show me how to properly install a headphone jack in my iPhone 7? I messed up the last 2 times and am out of insurance claims.
I followed your first video on this, it worked at first but it came back. But since doing this new video there has been no problem. Thank You!
Thank you!
Why u don't rehot the ic touch of both
Will this work for my iPhone 6?
It actually works but it seems to only be temporary. The first time I tried it didn't but the second time it works.
but from time to time its going again so, I remove the screen and put some pressure to the board and it works
I did this. The keyboard "i " button was not working, the on and off side button wasn't working nor was the silent button wasn't working after i did this. i ordered a new screen digitizer and replaced it today. The keyboard i button is working now but the side switches still aren't working. Have any idea why?
I put new touch screen on my I phone 6s plus but screen is not working I mean none of the application responding my touch
Having an experienced tech work on it by replacing or re balling the touch IC and damaged pads will fix it correctly and for the long term.
do I need to purchase these tools or are they typically tools people have lying around?
eBay but once you do, you won't be able to pay apple £146 to properly get it fixed!
I try but it doesn't work
try another one. remove the tape and then put every component back to where it should be.
Just did this on my iphone 6. Lets see how long this will work. Thank you for the tutorial
Just spent the last few hours doing this - and seems to have resolved the non-responding touch screen on my iPhone 6 - for now ;)
Michael Brennan at this moment, your iphone it s ok ?
Gabriel Serban Thanks for reminding to reply, the fix worked for about 3 hours and stopped responding again. It is easier to get responding with less bending now but I think I need to insert more electrical tape to apply more pressure.
My display some time touch and some time touch is failour so what I can do???? Some repair person told me that u r jack pin is failed but touch is working sometime so what I can do??
Soory its have touch problem bro
Soory its have touch problem bro
i cant take off the left upper part help
Is it the same way to repair an iPhone 6 touch disease ?
thanks it's working but some time it's same it doesn't response and "1" button is not working.. what should I do
It's the same problem. This technique is not a fix. In your case not all of the joints were able to produce a viable connection. Squashing the BGAs onto the motherboard is bad mojo.
IT WORKED!!!!!! YeeeHaawww!! Thanks SO MUCH DUDE!!! 3 weeks of touch disease was sooo annoying. So far so good! I'll keep you updated!
Can you replace the damaged logic board with a working logic board from the same model iPhone?
after putting it back my front cam and ear speaker is not working ,
My phone has just started the touch disease.
It saved my time, money and potential frustration from the “repaired” iPhone.
work after 2 week??!
Thanks again!!!
will this work for the iPhone 5s?
Hey Rody, will this work if the phone is bent? The bend is very minimal. Also the screen broke so will i be able to replace the screen with the bend?
Tried your procedure on my 6 plus! Initially ghost touch played for 2 minutes after phone gets little warm there was no ghost touch problem! I’ll update my comment once again ! Thank you !!
i just tried it because it seems logical. its functioning now but will give you an update in a few hours or days. thank you. really appreciate. in the case it happens again tho, i should try using a bigger piece of tape?
Kahlid Lawrence no don't go beyond 10 folds! It will bulge more and could break the mother board!
does it still work
I went to the Apple Store today and asked about the Touch Disease, and they said it was caused by "flex cable" being bent.
Try this. I hope you get your phone working again. www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+6+Plus+Logic+Board+Replacement/29868
Rody Davis you're welcome to mail it to me . I will replace the touch IC chips and guarantee a working phone, as long as you have not damaged anything else with this attempt.
hi, can u help me? i need this fix on my iphone 6 plus
Brandon McNeely do you still do this repairs ? What's the fee
The right way to fix this might be with micro soldering, but this hack worked for my iPhone 6 and has for over a week. Since it cost me time and a piece of electrical tape, I'm satisfied.
My 6 plus has ghost touches and screen becomes unresponsive i tried this method but didnt worked , is this lcd problem?
