Fran and Rich, Myself and Sarah have spent our lockdown coffee breaks catching up on your every episode of your VLOG's, we have found them entertaining and informative so thanks for that. You are a great couple and have opened up a new way of thinking to us and where our future lies. We have booked a rental boat at the end of September to give it a go and we'll see from there. Sarah has just baked the first bread to your recipe, smells great!
We look forward to the next episode.

Well done and keep them coming.

This Canadian vegan loves tomato pie. Absolutely delicious with asparagus, garlic, mushrooms, chopped onion and kale sautéed then add nutritional yeast and put in my home made vegan pie crust with my homemade cashew cream cheese spread on the bottom and sliced tomatoes on top to roast to their hearts content for about an hour in a 375 F degree oven. Oh boy. Nootch is a staple in my kitchen. Try it on popcorn too.

Barney Leith. The common where I take my dog has a huge meadow, with a track that runs the length and is about one quarter of the width of the meadow from the edge. The major part is already waist high over the whole area with Cow Parsley (Queen Ann's Lace was it?) but the minor part has hardly any. Why is that? Also, what you described as 'Garlic Mustard' and called "Jack by the Hedge", was pointed out to me by a friend (just before lockdown) who called it 'Dead Nettles" (I think) because they grow alongside real nettles, but they flower and don't sting. Good vlog guys, as ever. Thank you.

I've been binge watching over the last few days (from episode1 through to the present), and I've thoroughly enjoyed the journey and sharing all your ups and downs. I was particularly unhappy about the experiences you had in my own county of Lancashire (on the Rochdale canal), but that's modern society for you I guess. But I can almost guarantee you'll have a much pleasanter time on the Lancaster canal when you finally do the Ribble Link, which is in my own back yard and an area I know well. And knowing how much you enjoy walking, I recommend walking the route of the now disused section of the Lancaster, from Tewitfield to Kendal. You'll really find that an interesting and scenic walk. May I finish with belated congratulations on your marriage (you are both so well suited and a great couple), and that your recent ailments.are improving with each day that passes. Good luck to you both, and thanks for all you're doing for us land lubber canal enthusiasts!

Fab video. For the first time I watched it with headphones on. Absolutely brilliant. The sound of the birds, panting dogs and even your footsteps on the towpath. Just lovely to listen to. So many thanks. However adding things like nutritional yeast to food sounds more like a science experiment than cooking to me. But as they say, don't knock it till you've tried it. Keep on keeping on!

    • @FloatingOurBoat
      @FloatingOurBoat  4 года назад

I understand what you mean about nutritional yeast. It doesn't sound appetising does it, but it is a natural product and really cheese making is a bit of a science experiment itself. It is good and dairy free so we're happy.

I loved the video. When I was doing my research form my foraged soup last week, I came across the recipe for pesto from garlic mustard. I also made some, with not all the true ingredients. I also did not have pine nuts or parmesan cheese, so I used some almond pieces I had and finely grated some cheddar. I thought it was delicious too. I did not make much, and I spread it on some homemade garlic bread.

Made pesto yesterday with Italian Parsley and pistachios. It was great! Have you ever picked Queen Anne's Lace and put the blooms in water with food coloring (maybe use beetroot juice). The blooms will turn a lovely pastel color. Thanks for the great videos. They are keeping me sane during this wretched pandemic.

I have some of that same plant in my yard. Just this morning I was thinking, " I wonder how I find out what that is?" And here you are with the same plant. Thank you very much from Ohio.

    • @FloatingOurBoat

Just make sure it is the same plant then get cooking. It smells and tastes garlicky and a little peppery.

@@FloatingOurBoat I lost my scene of smell years ago. But hubby said it smelled like garlic. I see in Wikipedia that it's an European plant. Must be a different variety.

Really enjoyed your video and recipe. I knew you could use wild garlic in pesto (and nettles too I've heard) but never thought to try jack by the hedge. Will certainly do so now. You were only a few miles from where I live and I miss walking the canal towpath so much :-(

It's the first time we have ever used wild garlic too. Thoroughly recommend it.mx

@@FloatingOurBoat . Prop walk is the rotation of the prop pulling the boat stern sideways as you back up it will always pull the stern a little in that one direction if your prop was turning the other way going forward it would pull it to the other side in reverse that happens with any single screw boat in reverse it tends to walk sideways ways it can be helpful when backing into a dock once you understand how much it walks but it is easily dealt with but a pain on a long reverse

Ah yes we do. It is quite manageable though as long as we just relax and take it slowly

Of course meat pies are wonderful. I made my first corned beef and potato. And then a chicken and mushroom . This Friday I am going to try butter pie. (Potato and onion) I think it was served by Chatholic’s during period of Cromwell. Wish I could find that Mustard and garlic plant in the Seattle area. Thanks for the lovely vlogs.
