Miles: "Shoot, our engine just failed, and my radio doesn't work, what am I gonna do?!", Josh from the backseat: "Did you know you could actually declare an emergency via SiriusXM, lemme show you …"
I had the same experience out of Paris, TX. From the time I got to the uncontrolled airport I could watch the thunderstorms build. On the ground using XM. That completely changed my departure. Where I changed from IFR to VFR with see and avoid. Always having a out and a escape to a airport in case my route was blocked by thunderstorms. The good things about big CBs is they usually build fast, move fast, and break fast. Land, let them pass, and then go on your way. Keep your distance, know their ground track, and look for cover on the ground to protect you from hail.
Being able to see the weather on the ground is a huge help. Sirius rocks!
Yes it does, but the guy in the right seat is using a sledgehammer to promote it.
😂

Edit to add: Glad to see all three of y'all know what comfortable sunglasses feel like.
😂😂😂
Welcome to Harlingen Mr Aviation 101! I live near Harlingen n have worked there the past 40 year's in the medical field. It's great to know that you were able to make it down here. I've learned a lot from watching your videos. Keep up the great work.
I’m jealous of Kevin! I want to be in Texas wearing shorts! 😂
“How dare Josh make content that is free of charge to me and not do so according to my very own timeline. And how dare he try to leverage his skill set to form beneficial commercial relationships and make a buck or two in the process” - Jerks
Yes, the audacity of this Josh character! Ugh!
It is amazing all the new stuff that comes online to make aviation safer. Great shot of the T-38 Talons.
You can get radar on ground with XM but you can also get it with an internet connection if your iPad is equipped. I was burned once by not having it on the ground, XM takes a few minutes to obtain signal. Now I always have an iPad with cellular data plan. Enjoy your videos!
Sweet ride! Looks like a shaggin’ wagon with those curtains 🤙
If the wings are rockin' don't come-a-knockin'!
15:03 glad the door was latched correctly Josh.
I like Miles's radio work. Unlike most modern pilots, he doesn't suck.
The Six is a great airplane!
Thanks Josh
Welcome to flying in the lower 48...
Nicely done comparable analysis.
Love Miles new Piper! Sweet livery. 😍
Thanks for the PA32 tinkle review.
All local pilots in the mountains here at KSKX swear by XM as the weather changes by the minute. ADSB great tool for traffic. Trust XM for your weather.
Very nice flight. Thanks for sharing
Another fun and informative video. Can I be first on the list to buy Miles' PA-32 when he's ready to upgrade? Love that plane.
It’s been a great bird. I’m eye balling a twin next 👀
Great video and amazing editing as always! Excited for the upcoming trips!
Never tried sirius yet makes we want to look into it. Thanks.
Hi Josh Iam 12 and love flying
Same with me bro! You do flight simming?
Yessir
That's awesome! My daughter is 13 and has been flying with me since she was 11. Maybe we should get you, her and Josh in a future episode.
Awesome video!! Love flying IFR. Glad you were able to test how much space there is in the back! 😂👍
Hey Josh, next time you come down to Harlingen give a shout out!! Will treat you all to some awesome bbq!!
They are really banking in that sponsor cash 😎
This is fascinating since I worked for Baron Services, the supplier for the weather data pushed by XM (XMWX) before and slighter after the Sirius acquisition/merger with XM up to about 10 years ago. When ADSB weather was 1st proposed, we weren't concerned since we anticipated much of the performance challenges, and knew that ADSB weather wouldn't be able to keep up; but that 10 years ago.
Sad to see ADSB weather hasn't gotten better, where as SiriusXM seems to have done a good job of incorporating the best of both services (Sirius weather wasn't adopted by the aviation community after the merger, and Garmin kept XMWX/Baron in the game, because Garmin's platform is the dominant form factor, and saw the flaws with Sirius's initial approach (eg. no composite radar, just lowest tilt).
One of the things we enjoyed during the formative years of XMWX, was the competition from Sirius; if the service/platform is to evolve and get better, competition from a viable source is important; clearly, that's not ADSB weather....
I've heard how big the Cherokee Six was but dang... you really can fit a couple deceased people in the back :) When this video started I didn't think Sirius XM wx would be much better than ADSB wx...and then the comparison(s) started. Sirius XM would be handy to have for long cross countries. Do they know that they spelled serious wrong (yes I know... it's named for the dog star, etc, etc).
You can fit five deceased bodies matter of fact, but once you try to add the sixth it gets a little cramped.
You need a Cherokee 6!!
Going to watch a Starship launch?
When I flew that same model it had to be loaded front seats then Aft seats then center with the club seating.
Game of musical chairs at 11,000 @12:20 :P
It is crazy how the way pilots get weather has changed over the years and keeps improving.
Great video as always! Awesome to see Miles around again too... Interesting "moves" Josh :-)
We interrupt this east coast tour to bring you an infomercial for Sirius.
Yup
I’ve been posting the coast-to-coast every-other release. These are not easy/short to edit.
Beats a whine-fest.
I’m still scratching my head at this, any reason why he was using another aircraft registration? he was using N45379 instead of N333BF.
Tell Kevin it has warmed up, it is currently 12 here in anchorage
Dam, that’s crazy
Awesome would’ve been nice to have known you were flying into HRL I’m a CFI down there huge fan would’ve been cool to had met
I've flown that Brasilia before, heh
What was that callsign?
What's the mount your friend is using on the yoke? The ram mount I'm using puts it at an angle where it kind of interferes with looking at the panel. The one he's using looks like it slings it a little lower.
Hey Josh when you gonna get your autopilot, I bet it was nice to not have someone controlling the airplane at all times
Hey Josh I’m from Harlingen I just missed you I left Sun Valley aviation coming from my flight training my CFI said he saw you hahah sad couldn’t take a pic with ya
I don't know if it's the wide angle lens but that plane seems super roomy.
Cool hat, P.I.C. I want one!! Where did you get it?
Is there any advantages ads-b has over Sirius XM
love that "IFR WEE-WEE" Departure Then Approach ;-)
Bro. Love the videos. I actually work on T-38s. Where were you guys when you saw the two flying formation?
i love planes so much its my dream to have a cessna 310r
So, what the heck were those big tubes in the back of the plane? Cheers and nice video!
That’s the AC
Those big tubes are heaven in the summer time...
@@billye1789 -- What?? Hahaha... are serious?? Man, that's bigger than the rig in my house! Hahahaha... thanks, and cheers! I've never seen anything like that.
I wonder if they would have given direct if you requested VFR on top. I'm always trying to spot some legit use for VFR on top.
Hey do you know if it works up in Alaska... coverage here sucks. I have been thinking about getting something like it for a while, but it's all about coverage.
Great video... come back to Alaska soon.
How much delay is there with Sirius XM? Can that be a problem when picking your way between cells or just deverting a cell to continue on route?
Josh GDL worth the money? I was debating in purchasing the GDL 50 - 51, but the 52 just haves it all.
Do they have a discount for poor people like me? xD
SirrusXM is nice, but on the ground I just use my iphone and foreflight.
Is that an OV-1 on the ramp at 4:12?
I’m glad I’m not the only one that has to pee up there at times
Not exactly like you can find a rest stop to do your business either... 😏😏😂
How do you get your audio into all the cameras? Just record it on your phone and sync it up later?
Great video! Wish we had SiriusXM in Europe :/ just out of curiosity! What was your callsign?
“ForeFlight 379!”
Thanks! I use Foreflight in my PPL here in Portugal but unfortunately we don’t have the FFL callsign here yet :/ safe flights!
@@Aviation101 Yeah, I'm like...uhhh, I don't see those numbers on the side of that plane, where did he pull those from? Haha, makes sense now.
Love the SiriusXM features. It’s almost like they’re paying you for this video or something....
.......
For real
It literally says sponsored by SiriusXM at the beginning.
@@Aviation101 😂 Ah, so it does.
@@Aviation101 Did they let you keep the subscription and the GDL52 as a part of the sponsorship?
This video sponsored by COVERGIRL...lol.
Just hate SXM because of throwing Jason Ellis out the door for no reason. But okay. :) Love the videos regardless.
As a Dutchman, I feel slightly offended by the pronunciation of "Harlin'-Gen"... :-)
No SiriusXM here :(
Bring back 991
Question: what is time delay, when you get the weather through XM? is it in real time ? Thanks.
👋🏻KSRQ ☀️🌴🇺🇸🛩
I want to ask if fore flight n all the other platforms would still function in africa or its america n europe
um, i was the 52nd like
thank you very much
Josh's mic is broken, the sound rigging is painful to hear.
So cool. Apparently you guys are living in a Covid Free World! No Masks!
one in every crowd !! this is texas. were 'em ifin ya want to rules.
So firstly, let me say unsubscribe because I’m not going to willingly subscribe to advertisements.
This isn’t an airport. You don’t have to announce your departure. Frequency change is approved.
@@Aviation101 good look bro
@@Aviation101 Content creation is expensive. Especially considering this is completely free for us to watch. You're clearly actively using the product and as a CFI I'm sure you wouldn't recommend a poor product. By all means, keep the sponsor bits coming if they mean you can keep making videos! In other words, glad the people who don't want you to succeed are leaving, everyone wants something for nothing!
What was the 2nd part?
As Curly Bill said to Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, "Well......bye"
Since Dan is giving you a break and Making fun of Br"Y"AN, I figured I should drop by and see what you were up to. Great video work as always and excellent content! ANC!
Love the cherokee 6 and n80991
Thanks for the informative video! Do you know what yoke mount Miles is using? Thanks!
How well does that air conditioner work in a Cherokee 6? I’ve been thinking about getting one for mine.
I’ve had it installed for a few months now. I’m pretty happy with it. Don’t expect it to cool down like a new car but definitely helps, especially when flying at low altitudes.
When I flew a 6 with Club Seating for weight and balance it was required to fill rear seats before the Center seats. YES/NO?
Interesting, I was curious about why you were calling yourself "Foreflight 379" and then looked up the ForeFlight call signs program. I have the performance plan so I think I will apply for a call sign. Learned something new today! Great content, thanks Josh!
Me too.
15:40. Don't think I've ever chuckled during one of your videos, until now. Nice.
Also, 2/10 wouldn't recommend? Welcome to my survey flying world! Gonna have to look into this ForeFlight call sign program!
So he showed you a product? Big deal. Maybe some people have never used Sirius before. Kinda cool to see what they have to offer. It literally says this video was sponsored by them. If you don’t like it. Just keep sitting in your cheap seats and just wait for the next video to come out. Josh’s videos are always top notch. Just be glad he does have sponsors. Otherwise, most people would charge for these quality videos. What he does here for YOUR entertainment, is not cheap nor easy. Just be happy like the rest of us that we got a video to watch.
Exactly, man. Everyone wants quality videos for free, and they complain when it includes a paid partnership.
@@Aviation101 some people are only happy when they are unhappy.
I’ve never met a happy hater.
Hey, josh aren't you going to Boca Chica, Texas. To witness starship Sn8 12.5 km flight.
I would like to see you fly.
Just came to get your flyingeyesoptics link 😃 Sorry Dan
Cool video as always. But if flying is about risk management, why aren't you guys wearing masks?
How live is the feed from Sirius XM? Is the ADS-B using 5 minute old NEXRAD?
Hey Josh, I don’t know if you follow Premier1Driver but in his jet they have a Pee tube. Just thought I’d let you know.
A free box of CoverGirl products is on the way.
I would get SiriusXM in a heartbeat! The details and the advantage of having all of them in real-time is HUGH! Thanks for reviewing it!
Been using both for over a year now! Would not go IFR without Sirius XM!
My main question is can I hook up an external a ADSB antenna like I do with my Stratus? I see there are connections on each side for the GPS and the XM radio but not sure if I can pop off the antenna on the back and use an external one.
Josh, I love your videos! I might have to get Cam to contract you to make videos for me. ;)
Why is he saying 45379 instead of 333BF?
“ForeFlight 379”
@@Aviation101 what’s the reasoning behind the call sign ? Just having fun with it ?
@Corey McDonald interesting , I might give it a try. The things you learn in the wonderful world of RUclips
@Corey McDonald just was reading the same , appreciate the input good sir
How was miles able to adopt that call sign?
You're one of those people and then you wonder why he's having a bad day. Lol. Love these ❤️
Loved my Cherokee 6-260. Yes, it is roomy!
Always thought the state bird was the mosquito!
So I have XM weather and now a Sentry with ADS-B weather. The XM weather is costing me ~$220 a quarter. Is there some different way to bundle it so it doesn’t run 900 bucks a year?
Geesh!!
Callsign foreflight?
I love these vids
Those T-38s we cool
Impressive
