I traded in a 2016 F150 Platinum with all the extras on trailer back up package, 35 gallon tank, adaptive cruise control, .. and my New Denali is the best vehicle I have ever purchased. The Ford had more technology but I love the new style and that hoss motor. Everyone seems to have a Ford. Love our new baby.
well ford platnum ecoboost have more teck and biger cavin bether motor more mpg 365 hp but a ecoboost will teke down a 6.2 that is 420 hp lol on a race
Kinda disappointed at the “redesign” especially the interior. The rams interior rivals luxury cars, gm trucks not so much. Love that they are keeping the V8 alive unlike ford.
Honestly, I prefer the GM's interior over the Dodges. There's nothing really wrong with the Dodge interiors other than I don't like the giant center console, and I HATE that dial for the transmission. I like that the GM's aren't trying to make a truck into a car interior.

I lease my GMC every 3 years, and I just traded in my 2016 Sierra Denali 1500 truck for the 2019 Denali in April 2019. I loved my 2016, it was fully loaded, but this 2019 version is a big update to the 2016. The 2019 has blind spot indicators (awesome), also cross traffic indicators great when backing up, heads up display, camera in my review mirror very bright view, rear seat airconditioning/heating vents, my passengers always complained in my 2016, new rear heated seat (sweet), tailgate is incredible. Also 2019 is quieter than my 2016, especially on those concrete highways, which I still fell it shudders a bit, but not as bad as my 2016. The 360 degree camera system allows me to back up in any parking spot. I was always rubbing my rims on the 2016 trying to park on the end spot. And seeing the hitch when connecting to my trailer is a great feature. Phone wireless charging (that works for my IPhone and new airpod case), and the interior display is very responsive. Everything on the 2019 is a big update from the 2016. The new transmission is so smooth, that on the 2016 every time I stopped I always thought that someone bumped into me because the transmission always clunked. Anyways, i do not miss my 2016 Denali :)
ive never seen or heard of you before, but congratulations, youve won my sub. what won me over is your professionalism and the general personality you bring to your review, will definitely watch more from you.. even though i need to stay away from channels like this, i just paid off my avalanche and now im really eye-balling the 2019 ram
Expensive as hell. The guy says it right at the start, “very profitable for the manufacturer “. For all you would be buyers, I’m in NC and every dealer around has an abundance of 2018 Denali’s that listed for 65500 are being sold for less than 48000 now. That’s a 16000 dollar difference. I’ll wait till next year......or the year after.......or
Joseph Dunbar duh.. that’s the old body style. This happens with every single vehicle in existence when the vehicle is remodeled. There is “abundance” because people want the new one unless they heavily discount the old.
+Joseph Dunbar A base GMC truck start at $20,000. There is one out there for everybody. Just because one model costs $60,000 does not mean every model does. People who want a Denali need to stop complaining about price. The beauty of America is that you can wait for the marketplace to price differently or be more competitive. People in Europe are not so lucky.
What was GM suppose to do, sneak into the product planning meetings of the 2019 Ram 1500 of the past? I think that tailgate is awesome. Why can’t many people just accept a new feature as cool and not wonder about if it will break? Any feature of a vehicle will break at some point. Not criticizing you Tom, just speaking in terms of a overall conciseness
Webster Slaughter well in 2020 the f150 is going to be lacking compared to the Sierra,Silverado and ram because Gm made some changes to the trucks the towing capacity increased to 13,400 pounds and the trucks will get adaptive cruiser control and the 6.2L v8 gets more horsepower and torque it will get 435 horsepower and 469 feet pound of torque and the Sierra And Silverado is getting more towing technologies
How could anyone possibly buy a luxury truck in 2019 without adaptive cruise control? A Corolla LE I rented in 2017 had adaptive cruise control! Is GM marketing this to people who have no idea what’s on the market today?
Adaptive cruise control is most pointless feature available on cars today. Why set the cruise for a speed if you can’t keep the speed you want? I’m sick of hearing complain about not having adaptive cruise control on these trucks. You don’t use cruise unless your on the highway for longer than 15-20 miles. Otherwise, pay attention to traffic and change lanes as needed.
your reviews are awesome while also covering all there is to know about the vehicles being reviewed. Keep it up Tom. Always looking forward to your reviews. You deserve far more subscribers than you currently have but you'll get there surely. Bell icon checked. ............That's Driven
What a beautiful truck... with tons of cool features... but acres of cheap black plastic in the interior. UGH. I wanna love this truck, but the cheap plastic interior!!!
G I agree with ya. That’s why I went with the Ram Longhorn. Better interior. Better ride. Quieter inside. Love the looks of the GM and been a GM guy all my life but jumped shipped and got a Ram
19 RAM is a nice truck, but until FCA proves it won't build a piece of shit and something that lasts I won't buy one. I liked the new Denali, but it lacked a few features Ford had like Adaptive Cruise, Power Steering Wheel and pedals, too much hard plastic and too much chrome.
+Brett Sandy They are nice but what do people expect for $50,000 to $60,000. If you want an interior like a Mercedes S class it is going to cost about $100,000 and GM knows that will never sell in Trucks.
The Sierra is definitely the truck I'd be getting if I was going to get a half ton these days...maybe not a Denali though, I don't like to call that much attention to myself.
Pro tailgate puts the others to shame, rear bumper steps, extra wide bed, AC outlet in the bed and cabin, 12, (yes 12) welded in place bed tie-downs plus 6 optional tie-down spots, storage behind the rear seats (tire pump, hand guns), storage under the rear seats, full size spare..plus the GMC cheaper than the others even in the Denali trim (heads up display, surround camera vibrating seat alerts (instead of a chime))...best value by far. UPDATE: I bought a loaded SLT with the STANDARD size bed. With the gate down and the "step" flipped up 4' x 8' drywall and plywood will fit FLAT on the bed with 2 inches of clearance between the wheel wells and about 5 inches of clearance between the back of the bed and the flipped up step. With the AC outlet in the bed we can cut our pieces right at the truck if we need to. Just an awesome truck so far.
I love this truck! It’s got great perks, designs, etc, but I feel sad they don’t offer ACC on this, but the Multi-Pro tail gate makes up for it. GM really has a leg up over Ford and Ram tbh, they don’t offer these unique options. The Sierra is probably best truck out there IMO, I also love the Silverado too. Great Job on the review too!
Whoever designed that Cluster needs to be fired ! .. almost $70k for truck and that cluster looks outdated with no innovation, looks like they didn't try and used something from the design board in 2010 .. smh look at Rams cluster even Ford's Cluster is color and full of nice graphics .. I wanted to upgrade my 2015 Sierra SLT , but not much of a difference , I was hoping for more
Great review on this one, because i like how you compare it to ram, why no adaptive cruise control? No big sunroof (f150 have it too), material they used compare to ram feels cheap. As viewer I think lots ppl like to hear what is the downside too
Do keep in mind this is still cheaper than the ram, and while this does not have As Nice of an interior as the new Ram it does offer more performance, better fuel economy, more technology such as carbon fiber bed, 10 speed auto, dynamic cylinder deactivation , HUD, multi pro tailgate, and magnetic ride control, not to mention according to Edmunds and KBB current reliability ratings and forecasts show ram being far less reliable than the GMC and Of course the GMC offers Superior acceleration and Towing. If you have a dog in the fight of course you're going to throw a baby fits because a product you don't like is on the screen. Although with that being said it is hilarious seeing all the Ford fanboys coming out of the woodwork like roaches who don't even like Ram needing to push Ram as the alternative because they know there's nothing to answer from Ford in terms of luxury, reliability, and build quality.
I was going to buy one of these trucks and travel during my retirement-but a 41 year old injury to my lower back while doing 20 years in the Air Force caused me to change my mind..I’ll be getting a Cadillac XT5 Platinum with hand controls and be happy with a day trip to Payson..
Great review. I love the multi-pro tailgate. And while I love the brawny, yet upscale styling of the exterior, the interior doesn’t live up to the Denali name. It looks too much like the previous generation. I agree with Tom....too much plastic areas inside, especially compared to the new Ram 1500 Limited and the F-150 Limited. Otherwise, GM did a great job with this new generation truck.
I did test drive all of the full size pick ups beside Nissan Titan and in my opinion Ram 1500 is the best driving truck out there. I ended up getting the 2019 Ram 1500 and although it has a couple things I don’t like , it is the best driving truck out there. Not having leaf springs on the rear it makes a huge difference . My neighbor has been a Ford guy his whole life and drives a 2017 F150 limited and when he drove my Ram Bighorn he was blown away by the way it drives and how smooth the ZF transmission is. I would love If Ram had better sound system on the lower trims and sprayed in bedliner.
Great review Tom like always! I prefer the interior of the previous generation design wise.... Question, GM used to offer two interior designs for the 07-13 trucks wonder why they stopped that.
The Denali could use some more updating... The 6.2L is tried and true. But I hear Cadillac has a 4.2L V8 with twin Turbo.. GM wouldn't you please.. GM Panoramic Sunroof, 12inch touch screen, adaptive cruise control and a full digital gauge cluster would be a step back into the competition?
Cadillac do not have anything on the market yet that is close to the Denali. I am sure that if Cadillac to release a truck for it to have a better interior it will need to cost far more than $50,000 to $60,000. An up market Escalade is about $90,000.
Nice GM upgrades the inside of the cabin, add panoramic sunroof and lane assist, then they will be closing in on the competition.the big screen infotainment center also would be a great addition.70 grand fo a half ton pickup is a lot of money.
Have you had any problems with the parking sensors? Mine go off randomly with nothing around. Then the lane assist quit working. Took it back to the dealer and they had it for a week and got everything working. That was two weeks ago and it's acting up again the same way... Frustrating to pay that much for a vehicle that is in the shop 1/3 of the time that I've owned it.
the height of the bed is to his neck. Nothing says utility like having to step on something to reach your bed. Most people don't do offroad. A lot of people just want them to tow a boat and go fishing. Put that truck down and make it easy to reach.
90% of the people in these comments complaining about the lack of things this truck doesn’t have or saying these other trucks have better this and that doesn’t even own a pickup truck to begin with and probably never will
I own a 2017 Sierra Denali with the 6.2L, after seeing this review I’ll be keeping it. The interior in this new truck for whatever reason looks dated already and the Exterior, especially the front grill & headlights is just plain ugly. It’s sad how much nicer looker the Dodge is.... Come on GM, step your game up At least they’ve kept the V8 going (hopefully on the Next Redesign we’ll see a small V8 with Turbos)
All they really need to do to fix this is add adaptive cruise control, power pedals, 10 inch screen and more wood/aluminum trim in places it actually visible and this would be more competitive with ram. Even if the interior wasn't quite as nice, the other benefits that are functional (tailgate, rear view camera, better engine) would, for me anyway, make this a better truck than the ram.
Great vid. All is explained well except one thing: towing. How bout' a couple or three trips up and down Tiger Summit with a heavy boat or a load of rock in a dump trailer? Seriously thinking about another truck tow regularly, next trip how about some towing?
Excellent presentation, loved the blooper in the end, entertaining as well as informative. I still prefer the Denali’s body lines over the Dodge’s even though the Dodge has more tech. I would have liked a bigger infotainment screen as in the Dodge.
Bought 2020 ram 1500 longhorn over GMC because the ram interior is nowhere in the reach of GMC. Not even close . I’m glad I made the switch. But GMC got the best looks from the outside. I’ll give you that .
Both trucks are very nice. However the radio/infotainment system that is on the Ram will be a nightmare if it malfunctions and has to be fixed. The Sierra design is much better thought out in my opinion.
it could use a bit nicer materials in the cab but also that Ram 12" screen has been a problem child for many plus having physical buttons means it will always work if the module on screen takes a dump and they will at some point........reliability is GMs best feature as well as resale value, Rams drop like a tank comparitively and their interiors look old fairly quickl...i drove new Ram and although it was nice it felt cheap like all pickups do ( even top of the line).....guess you just have to pick whats most important....one truck certainly doesnt have it all......but i must say GMC has best looking exterior in 1500 and i love that tailgate!.....thought it was kinda "ehh" but i use it all the time
It's nice they got some "work" stuff niceties in, but it is hard to forgive for overlooking the simple luxury things like padded/soft door pockets and the ubiquitous luxury panoramic sunroof. Personally, $60k+ (msrp) for a truck is down right ridiculous...I guess it's so they can be marked down $10k to move unsold units cuz it's a "good" deal..........
Who cares about a panoramic sunroof.. I hardly ever use the one I got in my 17' Denali.. This truck is nice, and built better than any dodge.. The 6.2L is powerful.. I have the same engine in mine, but with an 8-speed.. They added alot of upgrades from previous years..
Could have seen how much fits with the back seats up! That being said, it seems that GM really phoned it in on this generation. They're fine trucks, but not worthy of the new moniker. Plus, that styling of the Silverado! Holy cow, is it ugly
Just a word of caution - the new 2019 Silverado-Sierra twins can NOT even be ordered or does NOT come with the “power brake and foot pedal” adjuster.... Think about such a large truck without this option....If you have short legs, you have to move up the seat close to the steering wheel, which has an airbag in it. This is normally a pretty standard option for most trucks (GM, Ram, Ford)...I own a 2017 Silverado, but some “bean counter” within GM axed this very useful feature......why?
Eric Fox how could you possibly know the 2019 Ram is better and will last longer? Please explain cause one day I’d like to be able to see the future as well.
Looks like GM is still trailing RAM in the interior. Looks pretty good on the outside though. Realistically, if I were to pay $60k for a truck (heck, even $50k)... it better be rated to tow 13,000+ lbs.
If my 2015 Denali ever wears out I will get one of these! 6.2 4x4 is a beast and is bulletproof
The tailgate alone has more options than my entire car.
😂😂😂😂

I ended up getting the 2019 Ram 1500 and although it has a couple things I don’t like , it is the best driving truck out there. Not having leaf springs on the rear it makes a huge difference . My neighbor has been a Ford guy his whole life and drives a 2017 F150 limited and when he drove my Ram Bighorn he was blown away by the way it drives and how smooth the ZF transmission is. I would love If Ram had better sound system on the lower trims and sprayed in bedliner.
I bet the fancy tailgate works it's way down stream as an option on lesser trim levels.
Great review Tom like always! I prefer the interior of the previous generation design wise.... Question, GM used to offer two interior designs for the 07-13 trucks wonder why they stopped that.
Money I would imagine.
considering an average 2-ply is about 3.5 cubic ft. that 61 cubic ft cargo should hold about 17 packs.
However, I have found that "should" and "does" can be quite different.
Great blend of Pros and Cons! Thanks
What a great opening shot! Got lucky with that light. 14 more days until the RAV4 review!
Good eye. I'll point out that one opening shot is a combination of two that are blended together because the sky was blown out.
Just an outstanding review Tom. Nailed all the major points and great commentary to go along with it. Great work!
would love to buy just the tail gate option for my G.M.C. Sierra 2011 excab... is that possible
Great review as always Tom! However, Tom in a truck??? I don't think so, Audi A6 is more your style :-)
FYI, I learned to drive a manual transmission in a Ford pickup.
EXCELLENT REVIEW
I really like the Silverado LTZ. You get some features from denali and high country but not so much that you have stuff you dont need.
Interior design is resembled Chevrolet pickup. Very nice pickup.
Which is utter garbage.
Best looking truck in its class just not interior nice wise
the height of the bed is to his neck. Nothing says utility like having to step on something to reach your bed. Most people don't do offroad. A lot of people just want them to tow a boat and go fishing. Put that truck down and make it easy to reach.
90% of the people in these comments complaining about the lack of things this truck doesn’t have or saying these other trucks have better this and that doesn’t even own a pickup truck to begin with and probably never will
I so enjoyed this video review.
Great job.
There's a lot of ram comments but have you noticed how they no longer use the word Dodge coincidence I think not........ cuz a RAM is still a Dodge
Yes it is. A lot of them don’t know that the vin on the trucks is actually part of dodge. Ram never left dodge
what happened to rear wheel steering? would make this easier to park in urban areas
Excellent review!
It's weird this luxury pickup with that price has no adaptive cruise control!!
+Ali 1002jj
People buying a V8 truck do not generally care about adaptive control. There is a reason they are driving a V8 in the first place.
Absolutely gorgeous well done GM, but do agree the interior is nice but could be better
Come on GM, step your game up
At least they’ve kept the V8 going (hopefully on the Next Redesign we’ll see a small V8 with Turbos)
Great review of the 22 T,P carrier
Please review the new 2019 1500 limited.
I agree, the Ram will have more features, but it'll also have no reliability or resale value.
;)
I do not know. The 2019 is a whole new beast.
My 2018 Chevy Silverado XLT has adjustable pedals, this model has to have them. Did you happen to over look the switch?
Silverado trim levels do not include XLT. You're confusing your trucks trim level for Ford. Chevy's are L, LT, LTz71, LTZ, LTZ Z71 AND HIGH COUNTRY.
Great review
i sat in a Denali at a car show, I am sad there is no longer a power adjustable pedals. Can you confirm there is no more adjustable pedals?
He said it
haven't seen the single cab?? when will they announce?
Both trucks are very nice. However the radio/infotainment system that is on the Ram will be a nightmare if it malfunctions and has to be fixed. The Sierra design is much better thought out in my opinion.
Or your kid kicks it and breaks the screen. That console come with gorilla glass?
6.2 liter V8 gasoline engine in a 'truck' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only in USA
Go America!!! Yeehaw!!! Lol
Any pickup guy would rather have a V8 than a V6. V6 trucks have no soul
I need that in my 65 C/10.
He wasn’t implying anything about a v6 but rather that in Europe you would most likely see a diesel.
@@vlad1889 , well there is always the 6.6 turbo diesel in the hd series diesel is getting a better foothold in usa just 50 years late... lol
A full size van would be able to haul a lot more though.
Great review as always- but don't like trucks that much. Still, a lot of people do.....
it could use a bit nicer materials in the cab but also that Ram 12" screen has been a problem child for many plus having physical buttons means it will always work if the module on screen takes a dump and they will at some point........reliability is GMs best feature as well as resale value, Rams drop like a tank comparitively and their interiors look old fairly quickl...i drove new Ram and although it was nice it felt cheap like all pickups do ( even top of the line).....guess you just have to pick whats most important....one truck certainly doesnt have it all......but i must say GMC has best looking exterior in 1500 and i love that tailgate!.....thought it was kinda "ehh" but i use it all the time
Awesome Tom! Where do you find 'TeePee Paper' Tie-Downs?
It's nice they got some "work" stuff niceties in, but it is hard to forgive for overlooking the simple luxury things like padded/soft door pockets and the ubiquitous luxury panoramic sunroof. Personally, $60k+ (msrp) for a truck is down right ridiculous...I guess it's so they can be marked down $10k to move unsold units cuz it's a "good" deal..........
The 60K is a big, fat tax write-off for an 'entrepreneur'.
Why do pick up trucks still use those exposed antennas?
"...and compensate for the trailer you might be towing" @5:30, how about compensating for something else?!
Why can't GM build a decent interior? Their flagship truck looks like a base model Ram.
its a truck interior and it complements it just right its not a mercesdes benz.
@@hunkydude322 Oh OK. Don't try to charge for one then.
@@TMJ32 excatly price is not worth it, i know it's a truck and all but with that tag like cmon interior could be better
Looks like a beast! I live in Europe and i don't know how would i manouvre this thing lol
Hell, I'm and American and most modern trucks look like mountains rolling past my Volvo V50.
Could have seen how much fits with the back seats up!
That being said, it seems that GM really phoned it in on this generation. They're fine trucks, but not worthy of the new moniker. Plus, that styling of the Silverado! Holy cow, is it ugly
Marco B some of the Silverados actually look really nice
Nice to see your 1990 Miata make a cameo appearance. Perhaps we can see it featured in one of your reviews someday?
I only do new cars. That one is nearly 30 years old.
TP test behind the front seats with cushions up
That car got more chrome than google
Literally every truck brand has as much or more chrome.
Lease a '19 RAM 1500 & see if it holds up over the 3 years.
I would agree with you on Ram 2018 and before. but the 2019 is a lot better.
@@foxwithshades7080 New = Lease. If I knew about leasing in 2006 it would have saved me gobs of money.
Eric Fox how could you possibly know the 2019 Ram is better and will last longer? Please explain cause one day I’d like to be able to see the future as well.
My 07 RAM with 150k miles just need its first repair in 11 years.
@@FakedStick My '06 Magnum, WOW just WOW. At least it's dead now. Still looks good but it's quite dead.
Cette voiture est superbe, dommage qu'en France qu'elle soit trop chère. Le mieux serait d'avoir une usine ici en France.
Hmmm. I get 24mpg on the highway with my 6.2. Same truck as reviewed .
The truck is well put together, but I imagine you may have issues with parking.
Looks like GM is still trailing RAM in the interior. Looks pretty good on the outside though.
Realistically, if I were to pay $60k for a truck (heck, even $50k)... it better be rated to tow 13,000+ lbs.
Kinda shocking this Denali doesn’t have ACC
