If you look closwly at the map you can already see the DLC locations, genious. You can pan camera in story mode by hitting R1.

so to basically sumarize shredder's plan shredder wanted to get revenge on the turtles by taking over lady liberty and destroy new york. in order to succeed, shredder came up with a diversion by tricking the turtles into thinking he was building another technodrome. and the reason all of the villains were passing each body of the technodrome to one another was because the plan was to get the turtles away from new york so they won't have any problems. Shredder is a fucking genius.
These guys need to be given licenses to make more "long-awaited retro arcade sequels". If this is the Turtles in Time 2 we always wanted, then I'd love to see them do an X-Men, or Simpsons arcade with brand new levels and characters.
I'd love to see either Asterix or Bucky O' Hare. Or maybe even Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa

This is probably one of the only games where you don't hate the the sewer level.
I got my physical copy from Amazon yesterday and I had the biggest smile on my face playing this masterpiece. The visuals, the soundtrack, the gameplay and everything in between. I didn't grow up watching the show or the movies but I've always been a huge fan of the TMNT games especially Turtles in Time and the arcade game. I didn't think it was possible to top Turtles in Time or the arcade game but these mad lad developers pulled it off. This truly is THE greatest TMNT game ever made.
The graphics are amazing! And 6 players on 1 screen? That's havoc! Wish it was a bit more like river city, with upgrades, buying food, weapons. Games don't include those fun features anymore.

Clicked on the video just to say yes, yes it is easily the best TMNT game ever made.
Dotemu should be allowed to make an X-Men 97 game. Base it off of episode 3 where Jubilee and Hotspot go to Mojo World.
I just need the team to release an OG skin mode so all the turtles are wearing red bandanas to make it just that more confusing in multiplayer. Ha ha! But seriously.
I really liked this game, you can play solo or easily join random or friends with up to 6 players. Lots of lvls, you can pick which ones in a mario 3 lvl selection screen, challenges per lvl to do, 7 heroes to lvl up to power lvl 10 so plenty of replaybility.
You get the 4 Turtles plus Splinter, April and Casey Jones. They definitely have distinct feels when you play them so it's not just 7 clones. Range, power and speed for the heroes which give them all strengths and weaknesses.
I give the game 9 out of 10.
Wonder how laggy 6 players would be online.. with different connections from far away regions.
No arcade stick compatibility on XBox... This is maddening.
No mixed local/online on PlayStation, on player per console if you want to play online

especially since TMNT Shredder's Revenge has shown that revivals like this are 100% doable if done by the right people
Bought to today and me n my two kids have been having a fun time with it and it def brings back those late Friday nights as a kid gaming on the classic turtles with the boys I agree with the lack of shedder but over all this game hits on everything the classic were and builds a nice enjoyable game

NGL kinda sad that Rise didn't get any sort of good video game for it. Always seems like all TMNT related stuff being made always falls back on the 80's series.
Got this day one. And I am ready to bear this games child. I havent had this much fun since Turtles 4, and this is what we should have got from Konami, instead of that bullshit "remake" of turtles in time from back then. And, no spoilers, but a certain foursome that makes a cameo, I would have loved to have been able to play as. Maybe even toss Miyamoto Usagi as a DLC fighter? Please? Pretty please?

Bought the game and me and my roommate blew through story mode in a couple of hours. The game felt fairly easy on that mode and the most lives we lost on a single level was 2 out of the max 4. It is held back by being maybe a little too easy at that point. Granted, I have the 1up Arcade for TMNT and there's a lot of cheap moments that are super frustrating, but they made the game make you think about how you fight enemies (granted jumping is really too good). In Shredder's Revenge, I would just mash square and Donatello's 4 hit combo does the rest. Only a couple of enemies require you to really alter your tactics. Specials are fun, but being able to taunt spam without enemies on the screen allows you to really abuse the system. Reviving friends and high five to transfer some health al la Toejam & Earl is a nice 90s call back.
What works is the game is very straightforward: beat up bad guys, avoid traps, avoid boss attacks. No enemy or boss hits really hard which is kind of a shame on bosses. I don't think Super Shredder even has a OHKO move. Leveling up is nice and all, but if you're good enough in co-op, you'll level up quickly and be done with it.
What seems to not work at all is mixing and matching couch co-op with online play at least on PS5. Seems to be one of the other which is disappointing. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to get to include my roommate when I selected online and it would boot him. It wouldn't let me list out group for match making.
If comparing to Turtles in Time or the original 2 arcade games (Turtles 3 not being released outside of NES) and all the subsequent games then I would rank this as #2 next to Turtles in Time and above TMNT2 arcade game and the sequel TMNT 3: The Manhattan Project

i was pretty meh on this game- til like 2 days before release, then i got SUPER hype (i narrowly avoided running over a turtle the other day- it was a sign)! gonna play online with randoms tonight!

Tribute games really living up to their name with this game.
I laughed my ass off at the Foot Clan just doing mundane jobs like being office workers at the TV station before they throw off their neckties and join into battle, or the foot soldiers working the register at fast food joints, or the foot soldiers playing their Game Boys. Those touches were just chef's kiss.

Just finished playing TMNT SR... I want to track down the devs and give them all high fives and scream "TURTLE POWER!" so loud my voice goes out! I have never been this blasted by nostalgia in my life! May these devs make many Turtles games to come! Can you imagine if these guys got to make a Batman, X-Men or Aliens vs Predator beatemup?!
I remember going on a field trip to a Dutch Island.
My classmate went there before and was claiming the 4 player TMNT arcade game was at a restaurant over there.
We went to the restaurant and he was right...I remember all my field trip money ending up in that arcade machine.

This franchise has so many characters. From the original Eastman and Laird era, the 1987 incarnation, the Mirage era, the 2003 incarnation, 2012 incarnation, the 2018 incarnation and finally the IDW era. I would love to see represented.
I love this game. I didn't grew up with '87' cause I was introduced via the 2003 incarnation with the Fast Forward story arc (Weird entry point lol) and basically kept up with anything turtle-related and this game has a charm of an incarnation that I never grew up with or have any attachment to. Plus, if this game is successful enough (I hope it is), then we could maybe get skins or content pertaining to other incarnations of the Turtles (My preference is the 2003, IDW era and 2018 incarnations)

I mean, that's what I like. When the 2012 incarnation was coming out, I was one of the many who liked it, but overtime, I was not as into it as I would liken it. What I liked about the 2018 incarnation was the stylized look of it, the banter between the brothers are not as aggressive as different versions, Splinter, the worldbuilding and the way the fights are choreographed.

I bought this to relive my childhood memories with my son, and I am blown away by how good it is. And so many little nods to the originals that made me smile.

That's why I also bought " Streets of Rage 4". I had a Sega Genesis as a kid in the early 90s.I play with my son too. Mario and Sonic too. My friends had Super Nes.
This is the greatest game of all time and here is why: Throughout the years, I always try to get my friends to pay co-op/multiplayer games with me. I tried introducing them to Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Scott Pilgrim, Switch Sports, etc. None of my fiends are ever interested in these types of games. By the time this game came out I already gave up trying to get them to play. Crazy thing is, I did not advertise this game once to my boys and they all saw mw play it on my switch over my shoulder. Next thing you know, I'm hooking up the dock and we having a 4 player run and it was amazing. Everyone enjoyed the game even some on my fiends that don't play games like that. This was the first time I played a co-op game with live people since X-Men Legends 2 (2005)

The online multiplayer is amazing! Yesterday we beat the game in arcade mode with a couple of friends, and it feels like rollback netcode, no connection problems, no input lag.
Yeah, I'm playing Australia and had pings of 200+ and even in 6 player, I couldn't feel any problems! Kind of amazing.

They also released 2 more games on switch. The mobile/arcade game based on the 07 show and a rogue like that looks like Hades. Both are really fun
At this point I can confirm that the online play is great, even with a large number of players. There are a couple areas where syncing bugs occur, but just backing out of the level and jumping back in fixes it. That situation is super rare though from my experience and I haven't really felt any latency while playing. It's a great time!
My ONLY quibble with the character leveling is that it doesn’t include a bit of that deeper, Scott Pilgrim-style progression for each characters combos and such.
But I also stayed up until 4AM playing the arcade mode with a random, rotating cast of strangers, so… safe to say it delivers with what’s under the hood, as-is.
This made me more then just a kid reliving my nostalgic childhood, but truly worthy of a long awaited sequel to Turtles In Time!
I played a couple of levels earlier tonight, I feel kind of like a doofus because I bought this game on switch only to turn on the Xbox and find out that it's on game pass
After playing a little bit of it however, I'm not mad that I spent the money to have it portably like I originally intended, this game is worth playing on two different devices for sure
This is crafted so lovingly and it brings a smile to my face with every second I play it
I feel you! I have Game Pass as well and I still purchased it for my PS5 and Nintendo Switch Lite so I can play it on the go lol. This game is seriously that good I have no regrets!

A game like this isn't going to tire me out on replays anyway, it's an arcade game if you enjoy it you're used to playing it over and over and over again anyway
I think what I'm doing is playing through the story mode on the switch and then whenever I want to play it looking a little crisper and running a little smoother I play through arcade mode on Xbox
These developers definitely deserve to be rewarded, and I hope they are able to either work on a sequel or even better work on bringing a lot of other arcade classics back into the limelight

I got chills during the opening intro of the game when I played it. I loved TMNT as a kid.
Watching the intro literally made me want to go back and watch episodes from the original series. ^^
This game is really nice. Tight controls, combos feel good and have an impact to them, the pixel art is gorgeous, music slaps, and with all the on-point references its clearly a labour of love made by fans of TMNT. A true recipe for some perfect pepperoni gameplay. Also the scripted events that happen seamlessly when progressing through a level go a long way in adding an extra satisfying narrative to them without slowing down the gameplay
Also haven't played a beat'em up since River City Girls, so this will scratch that itch nicely

My brother, a close friend, and myself played the entire story mode on launch day yesterday! We all grew up with Turtles in time for the SNES specifically l and boy howdy, we were smiling from ear to eat the entire time we played! It was so much fun! Nostalgic enough to remind you of your childhood but new and improved enough that it can really stand as its own game nowadays! Seriously, this game is great for long time fans of either the Turtles or beat em up games as well as for a whole new generation of fans who didn't really grow up with these types of games, it's just that good!
The soundtrack is fire and the bosses were all incredible, my only change would be make Tokka and Rahzar their own boss battle but still seeing them made all the difference. On my second play through now as Casey, my #1 game of the year so far.
Unless I'm missing something, the only thing I wish this game had was a CRT filter.
Hyperstone Heist on Sega Genesis was the first game I've beaten as a kid. Played through Shredder's Revenge yesterday and it's pretty much an perfect sequel to this game. I still can't believe it happened.
A slight correction to your review. Playstation version only supports 4 player local co-op. Another disappointment for my PS5 as it only supports 4 Bluetooth devices at once. Xbox version plays 5 and 6 players no problem.

I loved my time with this game! Slowly but surely, beat em ups are now back in the gaming mainstream. We got Streets of Rage 4 before, and now the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back too! What are the chances we could get another Final Fight in this style? Or maybe another Golden Axe?
Another final fight is coming but who knows what the art style is gonna be like

Can’t believe I’m getting so hyped for this game I didn’t know was releasing until a couple days ago. One of my favorite games of all time was a similar strip arcade x-men game which I used to play with my brothers.
This game is not only nostalgic but seems to be a mini masterpiece (I have a feeling it’s very short). Can’t wait to play
Mike Patton sang this version of the TMNT theme, that * automatically * puts it into the upper tier
I absolutely love this game. On top of being great, it's internal resolution is perfect for playing on a CRT
I’m glad that Jones made in he’s by far my favorite character when I watched the 03 show by far my favorite adaptation of the turtles
Few caveats about online that I found (am on linux, and most of these issues are ironed out when I switch to win10):
Playing with remote play on linux crashes my sound drivers.
Crossplay is really unstable when playing from linux with people on windows. You'll get odd glitches like your teammate constantly getting back to character select menu without any input, levels not properly progressing, and boss AI glitching out.
There's a few more issues that am not thinking about here, but the game is still phenomenal, and am sure dotemu/tribute will patch these issues with time, if they haven't already.
General thing about 6 players coop tho: Game is unplayable with 6 players, it's just a super attack fest, while it's a nice feature, you'll get the best experience with 2 players coop. c:
Honestly I'm really loving the Game! As a big fan of Beat'em Ups & TMNT the only immediate things that I can think of to make the Game EVEN BETTER would be a "Survival Mode" and a "Practice Mode" much like Streets of Rage 4 did.
There's a lot of potential for DLC but the base game is still very incredible 👍
I agree. It's nice but it's a little too safe. Hopefully, the inevitable DLC will address that. Also, SEGA, can we get these guys on to a Golden Axe: RoDA port? That game is waaaaay overdue for a home release!
Yesterday I played this game with a friend. He's a die hard turtles fan. I wasn't really sure to buy it just to play online with him.
He bought the game, and shared the it with me via Remote Play on Steam. After Chapter 6 we tried Online and it was a blast. People started joining out of nowhere and we didn't even notice, we were bussy mashing buttons and suddently we have 4 more dudes on our team. It felt like an army.
Really fun game, worth the price.
A tmnt beat em up by the same team that streets of rage 4 i already knew this was gonna be dope and they have the orginal voice actor's to voice the character's 🔥 love how April has street fighter moves 🤣
I would say more with the foot and shredder really could be done in a DLC. Because I had the same thought. This game although really well executed in level design and gameplay design, doesn't express *shredder* himself.
It throws krang at you, then shredder, then the tyranny statue. And lastly super shredder.
So you're telling me all but ONE boss fight (that mind me saying was a little underwhelming for the mighty shredder.) and he just goes straight to mutagen? Yeah... i don't know about that. Especially when splinter is optional and playable. I think splinter being playable would be well fit for post game, say a secret story or some dlc to come. Because shredder's problems START with splinter, and extend to the turtles.
As well with more bosses would be very much so apricated, who knows. Maybe pick from 2003 and 2012 lightly for inspiration.
Regardless for twenty five dollars you certainly get what you asked for as a fan. And does so much justice for the games.
Important information: the players' character icons are freaking adorable. Angy Raph is my new favorite thing.
I haven't even gotten to story mode, just been enjoying Arcade with randoms and it's just a fun time. I hope they support it with survival modes and maybe a tougher difficulty to keep players coming back.
Anyway, to answer the question... this is definitely the best TMNT game ever. I've played them all and I'm not sure anything can beat having 6 players, including Casey Jones, Splinter, and April. Also one of the most epic showdowns with Shredder as Wu Tang raps a diss track. So good.

the 6 player mode ia fun and absolute insanity. Enemies flying and bouncing across the screen and racking up crazy ass combos and hit counts. its fun chaos
Remember when the side-scrolling beat-em-up genre was relegated to the past? Now we not only have so many incredible indie titles like The Takeover and Final Vendetta, but the actual franchises themselves are returning too! Such a great time for Beat-Em-Up fans!

if X-men arcade and Simson's arcade get's some kind a retro remake, remix, or sequel.
Like X-men arcade can be base in 90's X-men cartoon,
and Simpsons can be base on the early seasons of the 90's maybe 5 or 10 of them with some modern references.
If they do make a TMNT Tournament Fighters 2, they had better get the TMNTxJL team to work on it or they fucked up. Nobody on earth can do it better.
I absolutely love this game. I’m also a huge TMNT fan, so this is an absolute blast! It’s controls are so smooth. I love me some Raphael, but I’m honestly surprised how much I like April as well, she’s a pretty solid character, and one of my favorites! I hope they do dlc for this, but even if they don’t, it’s still a shell of a time. 😆

@@asteria9963 tbh I did try Fight N' Rage (bought it on sale on switch after reading many good things about it). I didn't like the art style very much and I don't remember being blown away by the first few minutes I tried it. Maybe I should give it a fair shake one of these days as I didn't really give it a chance.
Leave it to the 1987 Turtles to save the games. I have little nostalgia for the cartoon, but this era of TMNT manages to have the best games in the franchise even now.
This game is pretty much the "Sonic Mania" of the TMNT beat'em ups.

Could maybe draw a highlight around your character in multiplayer? Coz oh boy it's easy to lose track when you have three or four turtles going nuts on screen.

They really put all the love into this game.
This game is exactly what I wanted from an Arcade style TMNT game. Being able to play as Splinter, April, and Casey Jones is great to see. My one big gripe with the design is how easy it is to exploit the taunt for free super meter. Its much more fun to build up the meter by fighting enemies and avoiding damage. Supers are great so long as you don't have someone spamming them constantly.
I feel like if you set the game to easy mode, you should be able to taunt to refill super, but you should not be able to on normal or higher.
@@MattMcMuscles Yeah, having it be tied to difficulty would make sense. I also sort of felt like it should be used like a real taunt where you'd need an enemy on screen and have to take the risk of getting hit by doing it. Having the action slow down because someone wants to fill up their bars with taunts before the next fight doesn't feel good.

In arcade mode of u tske damage, the meter depletes.
Dunno if I agree with ur original commenr, in-game, it ain't as easy as you'd think unless u cleared the area
@@rottenmeatpuppet I was thinking the same thing. I feel the taunts take long enough to were that would be a good risk/reward move.
The only downside I had to this game is the last level felt like it just sort of ran out of ooze. The final confrontations feel really simple and nowhere as engaging as the other bosses in the earlier levels. Still loved every bit of this game.

Hell yeah I love the game, when I'm playing it for fun and leveling just to get through it, it's a blast. Playing with friends is easy. Best TMNT game I've ever played.
However nothing makes me want to hate the game more than when I'm trying to do those challenges. That no-miss challenge on stage 1 is brutal, took me hours on Okay difficulty.

Fantastic game that needs to be advertised as NOT just a nostalgic trip down memory lane. VERY solid, tight and concise game!
I find it kind of weird that Casey is the more powerful unlockable character once you mastered the game and not Splinter, since you now he is the master and the one who usually sits back

So glad its on game pass because i really wanted to play it. I might still buy it if it runs on the steam deck I haven’t checked yet. It’s pretty much what I would want out of a game like this.
I ended up buying it on cdkeys cheaper than it was on the steam sale. And it runs great on the deck 60fps and i have the tdp at 6 or 7 watts and the gpu at 500mhz. It really helps with battery life. Its really hard to go back to the switch but i wish the steam deck had an oled screen.
I joined as a 6th player online on switch. Game was absolutely seamless
I bought this game the second it was available and have dumped a lot of time in it. At least more so than most other beat em ups I've played. I love it to death and largely agree with what Matt said here. Its the best love letter to what I grew up with I could ever ask for.
Them putting this on game pass was incredible, but it's too bad I never did play streets of rage 4

If you were raised on the 80’s TMNT series, or raised playing the Konami TMNT Games, this game is a mandatory buy!!! And if you have PS+ subscription it’s currently on a 10% discount. Buy this ASAP. I wish James’s Avery was still here to voice Shredder. Sleep well Uncle Phil. I wish the Cowabunga Collection was coming out sooner though.
For a fun night of coop with friends I guess you’d recommend Arcade mode over Story mode?
You could honestly do both? But the arcade version is more streamlined.
