a really nice collection to have i grew up in the 80's i remember playing the turtle game in the arcades back in the day was some really fun good times and memories and remember playing turtles games on the nes and snes game consoles that's why when i heard about this collection i had to pick this up couldn't pass on it if a person is a big turtles fan like me you won't regret picking up the game but the turtles collection is not for everybody my opinion i know im having a blast playing the collection bringing back my childhood again and remembering the good old times and good old days and im 45 now and still feel like a kid when replaying these games again.
In terms of content and features (as well as emulation quality); this is the best retro compilation yet. I just wished they put work into the games themselves like the way Sonic Origins did; recreating it for a proper full wide screen (all screen space is taken and not stretched) as well as add a bitmap smoothing filter (like the one in the interactive strategy guide in this collection).
Thanks for covering the trophies, Matty. I know we’re a small small bunch of the audience, but I probably would’ve avoided this if it didn’t have a plat.
I know you don’t normally do movies but you should review the Rise of the TMNT movie on Netflix. It’s pretty good even if you don’t like Rise that much
Great video, but I think it's a bit funny that you keep saying Fall of the Foot Clan was for the 'Gameboy Color', when it was actually for the original Gameboy.
I'm glad the turtles are getting more time in the spotlight.. definitely my favorite cartoon , toys and video games from my childhood.. with the release of shredders revenge and this release we got the best collection of retro games ever created in my opinion and I had to throw shredders revenge in because it obviously uses the old catalog as inspiration and has to be seen as a spiritual successor in the series.. sad they couldn't add the turtles in time re-shelled Remake from the xbox 360 to really give every version possible but it's really hard to complain with the content provided this year.. Hopefully the castlevania collections and the turtle collections will spark a ! Over the head of some vp or ceo at Konami to give us a definitive Metal Gear collection Bigger than the xbox 360 and ps3 versions
Multiplayer is kind of embarrassing, but the rest of the collection is quite solid. NO ONLINE for TURTLES IN TIME SNES?!?! what a flop.... and you cannot change your resolution or screen settings with the online games. Pretty ass.... also good luck getting the 4player games to run with any playability with 4 players actively playing. Slideshow.
2002...haha I forget how old I am. This collection is a dream to me because I was a kid when the 1988 cartoon came out and I grew up playing these. 2002 I was renting my first apartment by myself as a young man lol. But seriously. For someone like me this thing is a dream come true. Best compilation
It’s so cool to see a retro gamer perspective from someone who appreciates and can also say some aspects were past his era. I think so many retro gamer vids are about nostalgia that the viewing audience may not relate to because they haven’t bn able to grow up with them like the content creator was able to. So yea thank you for being honest about what you weren’t able to grow up with and what you did grow up with
The original NES Ninja Turtles was from a different era. It was a world where you paid $50 ($100 in today's money) for one cartridge, it was all you had, and no matter how hard it was, you were going to play it over and over day after day until you beat it. These games were made to be almost impossible, but not quite, and to invite the obsessive player to memorize its patterns for long enough to beat it. It's a style of gameplay where angrily banging your head against the wall for hour after hour is more expected.
I don't know what the price is like nowadays, but I remember seeing Hyperstone Heist loose carts going for around $100 (Canadian) Good thing an awesome mom 'n pop video store just gave me a copy back when I was five (my mom would rent it for me all the time.)
I bought the Switch version and I absolutely love it! However online play is unplayable if more than 2 people are playing. Even with 2 people the audio goes to crap. I think Konami needs to put the Switch online play back into the oven because it's definitely not ready. Your money would be better spent on Shredder's Revenge if you want the arcade experience online. I haven't tried local multi-player yet, but I suspect that will be fine. However the Switch version is still worth it just to get this retro collection of games. Just do not get the Switch version for online, you'll be disappointed.
I’m having way too much fun with this collection- except I had to take shredders revenge out of my Switch to put this in. But the games really pop on the OLED screen the OG gameboy trilogy looking way better than they have any right to really. Just. Awesome.
I love this collection i do have the first 3 turtles games on the nes and turtles in time for the snes and play them from time to time. Let’s hope more turtles games come to modern consoles after this
for me, growing up back then, these games were my childhood. it takes me back to days going to the arcade and sliding a quarter into the machine and beating up foot soliders with 3 stranger. back to renting turtles 1 on the NES and being mad about getting past the dam level. back to playing turtles 2 with my cousin at his place and eating pizza hut. back to renting turtles 3 over and over from blockbuster and loving it. back to renting turtles in time and playing it with my friends from the neighborhood. the collection is worth every penny and now, i get to share these memories with my nephews.
I grew up when TMNT first came out, and the creator is from my home town in Maine. I was absolutely hooked on them. Still love the original live-action movie, and the NES game was SO HARD. I spent so much time on it... mostly dying LoL Happy a generation who maybe hasn't seen some of these games can experience them more easily now. Great video, Matty.
We deserve the fake original theme song is that what you just said we deserve no remakes on any of these games dude Konami is a joke these days they don’t believe in power they leave their games the same forever cause their too lazy
I love the TMNTs, but I was always more of a comics/cartoon fan for those. I never really played much of the games, but this collection I knew I had to own. I have no regretsm
Honestly what this collection told me is that the turtles needs a game a la Arkham or even dishonered. With freeflow combat and stealth mechanics cause it seems that the turtles are stuck in the beat em up genre
Difficult decide. Haven’t played either, but was thinking of either getting this or Shredder’s Revenge. Maybe not both for now, so which one would be the better option to go with first? I would assume the collection because of how many games there are in the collection. I don’t think I’ve even played a Teenage Mutant Turtle game before.
To me the most awesome thing about this is that you have the complete Nintendo Power style maps to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES in there. Going back to a child I have always wanted to have this (we had it for games like Mario and Castlevania 2, but never much more than a few areas for TMNT).
Obviously Konami and Nick-company I can't spell came to an agreement somewhere down the line. Because without the agreement, this collection would not have came to be.
I'm surprised that even the Switch version was 40$ (~45$ total) at Walmart. It's a decent price considering that here in Canada every AAA Switch game is around 100$
The collection is a big fail, they change the theme songs, they remove the Pizza Hut logo from arcade games(maybe from all games)some games have bugs and online play is a garbage (high ping, delay, etc) some games are without infinite lifes and a cheat menu...and you must press 2 buttons for speciall moves,is not in settings to change default controlls with 2 bottons in 1...is like I am in old arcade and I need to smash 2 or 3 buttons...back then was cool but now on controller is not.Is a f...g cash grab...they throw them all there in one disc without to much work and want to people pay 40$ or 150$ for Collection Editon.
I really don't want arc to produce a TMNT Fighter. I already don't really like FighterZ because it get's so boring compared to every Budokai or Tenkaichi or even Xenoverse. I know it should be competitive blah blah but I f.e. don't like the gameplay. The stopping in every move, street fighter Style, just interrupts the flow too much. And to see the same animations at the beginning over and over and over and over again. I don't know if that's different now, I played it for about 3 days and was done with it.
My dad could not complete tmnt on nes when it released and his friend couodnt beat the simpsons on NES , they then swapped games for a week and my dad completed simpsons and his mate beat tmnt but the funny thing is once they gave there games back to each other they still couldnt complete there own games
I'm definitely getting it, but my concern is the achievements for the fighters. I don't play or like any fighting game, is there no way to cheese these?
For me the worst part of the collection is that the online doesn't work properly If at all, which is a shame and i pray it gets fixed BUUUUUUUT i don't think it will, here's hoping, but the collection is worth it regardless
Got the only xbox copy the store had, I swear gamestop only buys 1 or 2 copies of new games that aren't preorders, its an insane way to run a buisness.
Does anyone here know how to play locally? Or I guess "splitscreen" even though it's on a single screen. Does there have to be another switch running the game locally?? Cause that's how it looks like it's setup, with a create and join lobby. I tried to take the joycons out to use like two controllers and the game was still only detecting one player it seemed. I have no idea what's going on but that is insanely disappointing if the couch coop doesn't work on a single switch.
Never got into TMNT to experience any of this first hand or to care too much about any side media of it (only saw bits of the 2003 series as a kid) but I'm still very glad that all of its dedicated fans can experience such a beefy and substantial compilation. Retro licenced games don't get that much love very often.
I agree about the achievements man. I got the cowabunga collection on the switch and I feel like I'm missing out but taking it on the go almost makes up for it.
You still have to brave the original nes turtle game with no cheats or extra lives to get the platinum which in my opinion wouldn't be worth the headache so I went with the switch version as well it just makes more sense to have these games handheld.
Hey Matty I've been watching your videos for a very long time and I think I would like to try making my own videos. Would it be okay to use your name in the tags I make for my videos, they will be similar in nature covering retro games and doing retrospectives
Tmnt turtles in time was the best for me spent hours as a kid playing co op with a friend who sadly passed away last year.
I'm really sorry to hear that
Sorry to hear that, stay strong
a really nice collection to have i grew up in the 80's i remember playing the turtle game in the arcades back in the day was some really fun good times and memories and remember playing turtles games on the nes and snes game consoles that's why when i heard about this collection i had to pick this up couldn't pass on it if a person is a big turtles fan like me you won't regret picking up the game but the turtles collection is not for everybody my opinion i know im having a blast playing the collection bringing back my childhood again and remembering the good old times and good old days and im 45 now and still feel like a kid when replaying these games again.

All I wanna know is: does the arcade version of Turtles in Time still have Pizza Power for the Title Screen music?
@@EdmondDantes224 Yes it does indeed!
Just discovered this youtube channel. I love it! Great review of Cowabunga Collection and great year for we fans of Ninja Turtles
Thanks for covering the trophies, Matty. I know we’re a small small bunch of the audience, but I probably would’ve avoided this if it didn’t have a plat.
Never played any of these so this is great to hear.
Speaking of collections, what were you're thoughts on sonic origins?
I will be talking about that in the coming month :)
Sonic Origins. More like, Sonic Snorigins amirite? Highfive.
I know you don’t normally do movies but you should review the Rise of the TMNT movie on Netflix. It’s pretty good even if you don’t like Rise that much
My kids love playing our arcade machine and shredders revenge. I can’t wait to get this for us to have some more tmnt fun
Great video, but I think it's a bit funny that you keep saying Fall of the Foot Clan was for the 'Gameboy Color', when it was actually for the original Gameboy.
Can't wait to get shell-shocked again!
WOOT!
Another throwback for this game, the start screen has music from the first 2003 turtles game
I met Kevin Eastman at Montreal ComicCon
2 x TMNT video games.
My wife bought ME a TMNT pizza maker
The Last Ronin

I played so much fall of the footclan many moons ago.
I have all systems but got it for Switch
8GB for Punch of SNES NES Genesis Games
bro this shit is 120 ms, i wouldn't say we deserve garbagio
Looks like a shell of a time.
Half shell
2002...haha I forget how old I am. We need a Donkey Kong collection!!!
Facts. Also need another Rare Replay type of game focusing on another studio with a long history.
The Cowabunga Collection is so good I sold off the old physical cartridges I had of some of the games that are in it. Phenomenal compilation.
Why
How much did you get for em?
Lmfao whyyyy
I don't know what the price is like nowadays, but I remember seeing Hyperstone Heist loose carts going for around $100 (Canadian)
Good thing an awesome mom 'n pop video store just gave me a copy back when I was five (my mom would rent it for me all the time.)

wow konami finally did something good again
I’m having way too much fun with this collection- except I had to take shredders revenge out of my Switch to put this in. But the games really pop on the OLED screen the OG gameboy trilogy looking way better than they have any right to really. Just. Awesome.

the collection is worth every penny and now, i get to share these memories with my nephews.
Only ever made the Airport in Turtles NES, by Palcom in some countries & Ultra in others ......getting back i to the action.....a 44 Yr Irish fella 🍺☘
I wish they included the gba games
However its NOT worth its $150 ASKING Price for the LIMITED edition of the games I won't even pay more then $69.99 for a NORMAL copy of the games.
I grew up when TMNT first came out, and the creator is from my home town in Maine. I was absolutely hooked on them. Still love the original live-action movie, and the NES game was SO HARD. Just picked this up %100 worth it grew up in the late 80s so nostalgia is crazy with this collection 😁
Konami is making me very happy with all of these great compilations they've been cranking out.
I love the TMNTs, but I was always more of a comics/cartoon fan for those. I never really played much of the games, but this collection I knew I had to own. I have no regretsm

I wish I could find those 2 SNES games for 40 bucks!!!

Shredders revenge. Cowabunga collection is a laggy mess currently
I give it out of nine out of 10 but it’s so good😊
To me the most awesome thing about this is that you have the complete Nintendo Power style maps to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES in there. Going back to a child I have always wanted to have this (we had it for games like Mario and Castlevania 2, but never much more than a few areas for TMNT).
is it? is super laggi online, the buttons are slow to respond. it's cool. I like it, though it needs an update.
Yep it’s sad that shredders revenge has next to no online issues but the most important collection is a mess online
The tmnt from nes doesn’t have god mode. Wish it did. That one’s pretty hard
I love it I have it on switch and I enjoy the wide screen its a retro dream ☺️😃
It really is a great collection, too bad they couldn’t get the online right. These games are definitely tough.
40 bucks?? I bought both the Switch, and PS4 version for 29 each when they came out!!! Must be because it's PS5???
My only complaint is the music in the arcade original is really quiet. I have the arcade and the music is much more pronounced.
For a quick review, one can simply say this collection is amazing, and most would agree to it. 💚
Obviously Konami and Nick-company I can't spell came to an agreement somewhere down the line.
Because without the agreement, this collection would not have came to be.
Save Me A Slice Of Pizza!! 🍕
I'm surprised that even the Switch version was 40$ (~45$ total) at Walmart. It's a decent price considering that here in Canada every AAA Switch game is around 100$
It's perfect for every TMNT fan, and 80's and 90's kid cowabunga.

I even had Turtle slippers as a kid. I snuck over to a friend's house to watch the movie. I mean, I was obsessed!
Even im sooo happy that they came out tmnt, contra, sonic orgins, castilvania, finally and lion king aladdin on steam.
My dad could not complete tmnt on nes when it released and his friend couodnt beat the simpsons on NES , they then swapped games for a week and my dad completed simpsons and his mate beat tmnt but the funny thing is once they gave there games back to each other they still couldnt complete there own games
Re: Shelled
What is that? Sounds like something that shouldn't even exist or have been attempted.
TBH you should skip the 89 series or just watch the first season. Then dive into the original comics. That's top tier TMNT.
The original TMNT game for NES doesn't have many options to enhance the game and it is still extremely difficult.
It’s a laggy collection that isn’t really that great. 10/10 would emulate on any other system but the switch
This collection is a ninja turtles fan come true, hope they do a second one with the game boy advanced and gamecube/ps2/xbox games
I’m 17... so never played these games except snes tournament fighter, use to play that a lot. I bought it on switch excited to play.
The hardest trophies are Snes and Genesis Tournament Fighters. Rest of the games just use watch mode if you wanna get trophies fast.
Im so glad they added a rewind feature too, those old games were hard as hell.
I hope they have the updated versions of all the games for example tournament fighters had multiple version with more characters

In every other aspect this is one of the best retro collections I've ever seen.
I like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection
Is there a soundtrack with it, like in Castlevania collection, there was an option to listen to some music?
Never got into TMNT to experience any of this first hand or to care too much about any side media of it (only saw bits of the 2003 series as a kid) but I'm still very glad that all of its dedicated fans can experience such a beefy and substantial compilation. Retro licenced games don't get that much love very often.
Loved playing these games with my cousin’s when I was young can’t wait to again
A lot of these games in this collection I think either suck or too hard when playing alone. The only one i'm okay with is the first TMNT game in it.
2:00 Oh he mentioned it.
All I can say since I've been playing it is Cowabuuuuuuuuuunga!
one of if not the best game compilation i have ever played.
Do any of the online versions have matchmaking?
I want to play these games while watching the first animated series
I agree about the achievements man. I got the cowabunga collection on the switch and I feel like I'm missing out but taking it on the go almost makes up for it.
You still have to brave the original nes turtle game with no cheats or extra lives to get the platinum which in my opinion wouldn't be worth the headache so I went with the switch version as well it just makes more sense to have these games handheld.
As someone who is making a game? Are you developing one?
You are wrong. 80s turtles are the best turtles hands down
I can't get past the first stage of the original arcade game
2012 TMNT is one of the best TMNT shows. Not perfect, but pretty damn good.
What the shell? Looks totally tubular, dude!
Cowabunga Dudes!! - Mr Matty.
No mutant nightmare, no battle nexus
Definitely gonna get it! But to the Switch.
Super solid vid bro.
How’s the online performance?
Picked up the collectors edition of this
Such a cool collection I need
15:41 lol
I hope we get a second one.
Good review, man. Thank you
Hey Matty I've been watching your videos for a very long time and I think I would like to try making my own videos. Would it be okay to use your name in the tags I make for my videos, they will be similar in nature covering retro games and doing retrospectives
Apparently watch mode then hoping in you can beat games too via the trophy's
Input lag city.
