Hi, I'm the creator of the 2020 guide. I made this tutorial when I was 13, and I went through a lot of problems while following the 2009 tutorial, so I made my own to provide an updated method that addresses all of the misunderstandings. I'm glad I was at least of some use to those who are crazy enough to boot Linux off of a Wii.
the reason you could not see other drives is because they were not mounted, and xfce doesn't show you the drives you can mount. to see that drive, you would need to type in "lsblk" in the terminal which would list all storage devices and partitions, then you should mount the partition of the drive with "mount /dev/(partition) /mnt". also, because of how old this thing is, i don't think it can read windows ntfs partitions. you also couldn't read what's in the filesystem because windows doesn't support ext linux partitions
I've since installed Linux on my own Wii, and it's been pretty fun to mess around with! The coolest thing I've been able to do is SSH into a modern computer and control modern apps using X11 forwarding!
Hey, I think I might actually have the same RCA television as the one used in the video! (Or at least a very similar model.) I've had it for well over a decade at this point and it's served me well!
Do you think you could share your Windows customization settings and programs that you use? I’ve got Classishell for the Win7 home button, and something else I forgot that overhauls Windows Explorer itself that gives me with Win10 taskbar back, but I’m curious on how I can exactly get your taskbar’s and window’s appearance themselves
Linux typically keeps the external media in the media folder in the root directory, if that doesn't work for you then whiite definitely cannot read external media.
finally, a good use for one of my 4 extra wii’s edit: i no joke have 5 wii’s. one as my main one and 4 extras that just randomly pop up, i’ve had one pop up in my bags while camping once
You did not mount the USB drive to play the videos. You neef to use the command fdisk -l, then mkdir /media/usb, then mount /dev/sda /media/usb. Replacing /dev/sda eith the drive displayed in the fdisk command.
