I find it interesting how you interpreted this with an American eye. Being british I guess and having it more cemented in our culture about use of sarcasm and tone along with language I saw some elements of this completely different to you. I always see Idles as unashamedly British, but it’s awesome to know it’s still reaching.

fucking LOVE this album. Favorite of 2017 so far. The vocals are hilarious and blitz of guitars and bass is insane. It reminded me a bit of Future of the Left as well as some of Protomartyr's more unhinged songs. It's gonna be hard to stop listening to this one. On the track Faith in the City (4:18 above) i think the singer Joe is definitely taking the piss when he says everything is ok because these people have found God. It would seem hugely out of place with the rest of the album to have a line like " Uncle Noel's got cancer in his lungs and his brain, I thought it would tear that man apart, Luckily, uncle Noel's got Jesus in his heart" coming from a warm, non-ironic place.

I wasn't sure about this album to begin with but after seeing them as a support act live I went back and listened to this and I now really like the sound... 1049 Gotho has become one of my favourite songs of this year.
I think their lyrics are really clever because they're quite simple yet get across the message and just kinda act as prompts to the meaning without being too obvious and I love the sarcasm like on stendhal syndrome.
I think the album could have been a bit more short and sweet with a bit more diversity and a better conclusion but there are some great tunes on this!
... also, great album to put on full volume and let off some steam if you're in a bad mood!

FUCK YES! I was hoping you would do this one, but worried they would get the Girl Band treatment (I did not expect that).
Regarding the review, mostly agree. I saw these guys in their hometown Bristol a few months ago and I was instantly hooked and have been awaiting their debut with great anticipation. The energy and urgency is something I've been longing for for a long time. Regarding hooks, it's in their DNA, you'll hear it when you listen to their older stuff, it's a bit friendlier, especially the first EP Welcome. The Meat EP is right in between Welcome and Brutalism and is fucking great as well.
Divide and Conquer fucking rules though. The lumbering first part and than that ending. I might be biased though since it was my introduction to the band.

Hi Anthony, I came across the self titled Suicide Silence album which came out recently. After giving it a listen, the first thought I had was 'Needledrop would rip this thing apart' It would certainly make for an entertaining review

As pissed off as I am that gave into the temptation to listen to the leak, you are not going to enjoy Hot Thoughts. I was amazed by the two singles but every other composition on the album is nonexistent, it pains me to say (as a huge Spoon fan).

Because they are from bristol they get compared heavily in the local music press to fellow bristol post punk band the pop group, seen them quite a few times live a great band!
