My son was stillborn then a few years later my wife was diagnosed with cancer. The only way i was ever taught to deal with greif was by ignoring it and pretending that it didnt bother me but that only made my family think i was cruel and emotionless. Losing a child is the deepest hurt I've ever felt and at the time I couldn't imagine that the feeling would ever go away but after time it did and I realize that the longer you keep it to yourself the longer the pain lasts.

Harald Ofstad wrote a book 30 years ago. "Our Contempt For Weakness: Nazi Norms and Values - and Our Own". He builds a very strong case that contempt for weakness is the core of fascism - especially when fascism suggests the weak deserve to be demeaned at best and exterminated at worst. Nazis did just that against people they perceived as defective and weak (Aktion T4's extrermination against the "genetically weak" is just the logical conclusion of contempt for weakness - plus anyone else they considered weak).

I thought the lecture to the football team was most fascinating, and I wish they had interviews with the team afterwards.
Football is a game of inflicting and receiving pain, and quickly recovering from or ignoring the excruciating pain to make the next play.
I cannot imagine how helpful this lecture would be about expressing your feelings about pain.
It would be interesting to see this type of lecture to combat veterans and see their reaction.

My issue is I think men get sex shoved in their faces too much. I once had my dude drive me somewhere beautiful in nature to tell me I'm not the most beautiful girl in the world so it's his right to check out other girls. I never felt ugly before that though that wasn't his purpose. Men, my point is you always look and we know this but don't make your own women feel less than. And DONT take them on dates by lakes to tell them you're not attracted to them. #notcool

I think a man should just be allowed to be themselves. The term toxic masculinity and society dumping on men doesn’t help. Notice society doesn’t lecture women on being feminine and accountable. Women can be everything even manipulative and bat-shit crazy with no shaming.

    • @thelonestarpelican9343
      @thelonestarpelican9343 4 года назад +2

Yep, I agree. Men should be allowed to find their own path. They definitely can do without social pressure to be a so-called Man's Man -- as if physical force, forceful personality, backbone, and thick skin as the main yardsticks to measure a person's worth. That kind of attitude dovetails better with hyper-militarized dictatorships in banana republics than it does in an actual democracy/representative republic like the USA and most economically advanced nations.

    • @sublimekerosene7047

The video, and the term "toxic masculinity" are not saying that being masculine is inherently toxic or that being masculine is bad. It's saying that there are times when people think that they need to act "masculine," and to those people that means being stoic and not showing any emotion. You can still be masculine and not "toxic." The "toxic" aspect refers to the suppressing emotions as well as the societal pressure to act a certain way.

Men should be masculine. I can’t tell you how many years of depression and anxiety I endured whilst adopting feminine ways of processing emotions. If you actually become emotionally resilient, it strengthens you as a person. That is a masculine characteristic. The reason why corporations, the media and women want men to be less masculine is because it makes you easier to be dominated and have other’s wills imposed on you. It’s hilarious and somewhat tragic seeing a frontman of a punk band, clearly mentally and physically Ill just by examining his physiognomy, trying to tell other men to be less masculine. 40 year old research and music with a message that is dated by about 40 years is not reflective of a society in the information age. Things happen much faster now. All this would be applicable in the late 70's and 80's, but today, men ARE the reflection of this sentiment. Like most things "progressive" this is late to the party. What do you want to do with high/low testosterone data similar across species? The pendulum has swung too far again. If you think this is applicable to anything, you probably believe in the gender wage gap. Do better.

If you count societies that don't give a fuck about gender roles, the split is about 50/50... which kinda makes sense when you think about it. I was born in the 80's. My early male role models were action movie stars. That shit wasn't healthy. Society is only falling apart because people would rather turn on each other than work together to solve problems.

Jordan Peterson published a scathing crtitique of the appallingly bigoted notions asserted in this video, and the fact that Journeyman Pictures published this video shows a complete lack of ethics.
For example, because it pertains to the singer in this video and helps explain the violence in his music, here is an excerpt from Peterson's critique - which is based on science, not feminist ideology:
"Consider this (it’s of primary importance): If it is fatherless boys who are violent, how can it be that masculine socialization produces harm both to mental health and society? The data should indicate precisely the opposite: that boys who are only raised by women are much less violent than boys who have men in their lives and, similarly, that boys who do have fathers are more violent than those who do not.
This is not the case. Period.
The APA document writers - who were also, by the way, very likely to disproportionately cite their own research - are inexcusably unaware of the basic biological facts as well as either ignorant or willfully blind to the data pertaining to the absence of fathers and, therefore, to the lack of a guiding masculine hand."
Journeyman Pictures needs to publish an apology to men and boys who are being abused and gaslit by therapists because of those guidelines. Research has shown an 80% rise in suicide rates among the very group who in America who are most open to getting therapy since they were introduced - white, middle-aged, divorsed men. The effects are nothing short of murderous.

nothing more depressing than suppressing ones own masculinity, that's why they kill themselves. too much sodomy causes metal illness - apart from all the other STD risks.

Jordan Petersen is a hack who fled academia so he could start collecting Infowars money and listening to his opinions as opposed to 40 years of reaearch from the fucking organization that literally *is* the field of paychology is about as smart as letting Dr. Phil perform open heart surgery on you because, y'know, doctor.

do we really want a world where males are all like milo yanapolus or jussee smollet? the message is actually dubious because the growth in global homosexuality has grown exponentially over the last two decades.

It’s not that there are unhealthy concepts of masculinity it’s that their normal masculine feelings are not allowed. Also most studies show that men don’t talk in order to feel better but rather in order to solve their problems, most men don’t actually respond that well to talking therapies. Having said that there will always be outliers like this singer. Or it could be that he’s been too influenced by femininity. The apa guidelines on the mental health of boys that he refers to in this film has largely been discredited. The reasons that the higher rates of mental ill Heath in boys and men is not because they don’t talk but more because they are expected to approach the world in a feminised way not a masculine way. Conversely women can also be expected to act in more masculine ways by sleeping around and being “strong independent women” and what’s happening is that it turns out in the long run women who live this way are experiencing high levels of dissatisfaction and depression.
This film hasn’t done its research properly, I suspect that it’s been made to pander to the modern feminised man to reassure them.

Lost me as soon as he said his music is about "starting a conversation". That's bullshit contemporary art speak. Art is it's own reward and doesn't need to start a discussion in linguistics. Then it started to go on about what's wrong with masculinity. Well, I rather think we need to go the other way and be stronger and more independent, in which case we need to bring back traits associated with masculinity.

It's attractive to be sensitive, emotionally express yourself, or cry as a man. Masculinity is both backbone/strength and unapologetic expression. It's only when you wallow and fail to show your strength to bounce back that is unattractive.
