Paige hit what would’ve been the best shot ever in national championship history, only for it to be followed by the actual great shot in national championship history
Maybe the best finish to a game that I've ever seen. No choking here. Josh Hart hits 2 clutch free throws to force Carolina to nail a 3. Page makes a ridiculous, circus 3-pointer. Arch hurries the ball up court, unselfishly gives it up and Jenkins delivers the stone cold dagger. Incredible stuff.
U know what was better then Jenkins shot North Carolina's march to the crown while Villanova sat at home at watched on the couch eating cheetos and drinking dr pepper
I hear you!! I've already watched it about 50 times today! My internet went out last night and I missed the last 30 sec of game before it cycled back on.
Man, I watched this live with my dad. He never really watched basketball, but I remember him yelling like he won the lottery. Such a surreal moment, one of best closing minutes of a game.
I agree great shot, maybe a little lucky but yes he made it and it was huge, a question why is Ahmad Rashad still picking up Jordan"s tabs. Are you kidding me.
I was holding my head like that girl saying, "Oh my God!" after that shot. That was an incredible shot! I think I would have had a heart attack if that game would have went into overtime. Go Cats! Go Cats! Go Cats!
That shot from Jenkins HAD to go in, it would have been a killer to this city if Villanova lost that game, and I am not conceding that they would have lost in OT but that shot from Kris was true when it left his hands, great shot and game, the shot from Paige was lucky, I mean come on a double pump from three from a guy that was just average from three, no the shot from Jenkins was the more pure shot, and it was a dagger.
2016 was such an incredible year, the sports where incredible too, cavs 3-1 comeback against the greatest NBA team in history, Cubs comeback down 3-1 for their first championship in 107 years, and this incredible shot and game
No one should ever forget the Paige shot. It would have probably been the biggest jump shot in the history of college basketball had Villanova not won that game. Not a NC fan btw
As someone in the midst of a Master's at UNC, having graduated from UNC in May, this comment is everything. Marcus and I are the same age--I had lunch with him a couple times a week the summer after our sophomore year. He'll go down as my favorite college athlete of all time. And you're correct--this shot would have been the greatest shot in the history of college basketball. Hurts just as much today as it did five months ago.
This is 6 years later and I still look back at his video at least once a week! My dad went to Villanova so watching this game gave me chills. Greatest ending in NCAA history for sure!
I don’t know how old you are, but I remember the ‘84 game between University of Houston and NC State; NC State won at the buzzer too; ESPN sometimes shows a documentary “Survive And Advance”, about Jim Valvano and NC State’s magical run!
If this was scripted, you couldn't have scripted it any better, this game was amazing in the final minutes this is how every championship game should be.
dwight cook Dude. KU held a big live screening of the game in Allen Field House. I was there with my dad, and oh my word. I had to get a new phone because I was recording when Mario hit that shot and the place lit up. The sound busted my mic in the phone because of the noise.
Couldn't have said it better...Gotta Love College Basketball! After UK was knocked out, I was rooting for Villanova all the way. And had them winning it in my "2nd" bracket lol My best friend is a die hard UNC fan so that made this especially awesome to watch. Jay Wright seems like such a great coach, and more importantly a great guy. He deserved to win this title. So happy for him and Nova fans. If you're a Nova fan...cherish it! Championships are so hard to come by. I want to see another UK Title so bad.
As a diehard UNC fan, I watch this often and even though it’s heartbreaking, it’s beautiful. One of the greatest games of all time to me, even in a loss. Because I can say without a doubt we ended up with the 2 best teams in college basketball that year and it came down to the buzzer and whoever had the ball last. Everyone executed and did their job when it needed to be done.
Maybe there hasn't been back to back three's like that to win, but Kentucky had a clutch shot to get a 1 point lead on Duke with only 2 seconds left...Grant Hill had one of the most clutch passes of all time to Laettner across the court and Laettner sank it in to win...this is a close second
the best of its time? talk about a no substance blanket statement. The general play of college bball and nba today is NOT suspenseful. They shoot threes all day and they hope these athletic freaks can dunk without honing their skills.
8 years later it still gives me goosebumps. I went to vfmac is 10 minutes from nova and that watch party and after party was the greatest night of my life💯🔥
Marcus Paige’s heart and determination during the final minutes of this game still put the biggest smile on my face. The whole team. The fight. The constant comeback. Two great teams. One of the best championships ever. Man it’s such a happy yet gut wrenching game to watch.
What's been up with the Carolinas in 2015-2016? Clemson lost the NCAA football title game Carolina Panthers lost the NFL Super Bowl North Carolina lost the NCAA basketball title game. Even Carolina Crown lost the DCI World Championship to the Concord Blue Devils
Think about how I feel. I'm a die hard Panthers fan, and my brother goes to Clemson. And one of my good friends marches In Carolina Crown. It's been a rough year.
+Chase kimmel it looked like he was on his way down when he finally released the ball. Incredible. Jim Nantz said it best "Impossible! How did he do that?!"
I'm a Tar Heel fan through & through and that shot by Marcus Paige was absolutely miraculous. And the game winning shot by Jenkins will most definitely be a shot that will not go unremembered.
Rory Johnston idk Marcus Paige shot had to go in to not lose, but Jenkins shot could of been missed and they still would of went to OT therefore I believe Paige shot way more clutch, but both great for sure.
Page’s three was one of the best shots I’ve ever seen. Shame they lost but came back the next year to get the Natty. Amazing ending but heartbreaking as well
incredible game from start to finish. this one is mos def an instant classic and one for the ages. congrats to villanova for capping off the season with a championship.
Best NCAA Final I've ever watched. 1983 NC State and 1985 Villanova were also great. Ironic Jordan was there - he had to be living 1982 all over again.
+GuhGahFta IMO it can't be one of the best unless they were behind because only then would it be do or die. If he missed this they still might have won in OT. Something like 2009 Lebron in the playoffs has what it takes to be GOAT.
I am a huge UNC fan and, although we lost, this was the best title game ever. Even topped 82 UNC vs Georgetown and 83 NC state Houston. Not just one, crazy miracle but two miracle shots in the end.
I come back to this game every once in a while. The wild, off balance, defender in his face, two feet beyond the arc 3 point bucket by Paige was one of the greatest shots I have ever seen. Then you have Villanova draining a buzzer beating 3 pointer to win the national championship. Plus it was technically an upset. Could you have imagined a more perfect ending to March Madness ever?
This was a heck of a game. Clearly the last two teams playing deserved to be there. Congrats to both teams. Great job Villanova, And I am a serious Cuse fan. But you got to love that game.
We are always spoiled when it comes to this. Even when we have the sensation of not too many upsets and craziness, the tournament gives us 2 teams that never went to the final four and the first championship game since 1979 that GUARANTEED a new champion (2019). And last year. We had #1 and #2 overall on the championship, but the first final four to Houston since 1984 and UCLA, the school with most championships, doing something unknown to them, a Cinderella run coming from the first four. It's 2022 and I cannot wait for the next tournament and to know who goes to NOLA
Almost two years later and I still get tears in my eyes. My mom and I travelled from Maine to Texas for the Final Four. I remember being in the stands surrounded by light UNV blue when that shot was made. Earlier that day I got to meet and thank Kris Jenkins’ family. He was always one of my favorites. I’ll never ever forget that day.
+Henry Madden Possibly of the NCAA, definitely not the greatest ending in sports history, there have been way better moments. I suggest you watch this: watch?v=Pma5RDt6MRw
National Championship Game in 2019... One of the best basketball games, and the best in college level, that I've seen. OT, a new champion to be crowned, two evenly matched teams. Hard to ask for more
Nova nation..2 in 3 years baby...gotta tougher road this year but teams rebuilding.lost alot of players and leaders last year but did beat #10 Marquette yesterday
so incrediblyr hard to describe how it felt, even after winning it all next year and having the season we're having now. Especially knowing that this was Marcus' last game, and he probably would not play in the NBA.......😔
Carlos, we did lose the game but you have to give Jay Wright and Villanova all the credit. They earned it! I'm a Carolina alum and it was a shame someone had to lose that game. But we did win it the following year! Take care sir!
Congratulations on your 2016 NCAA basketball championship game wildcats IAM happy you won like that good job Villanova love you guys like Philly happy for u!!!!!!!!!
My apartment complex must have heard the l blood-curdling scream that emitted from my apartment when that shot found nothing but net as the clock expired. Remarkable game. One of the best finals ever. I will never get enough of watching that last 4.7 seconds. EVER. Way to rock the house Cats!!!!
Marcus Paige's sic behind-the-back crossover 59 seconds in to this video is overlooked, and was instrumental to them to even have a chance to tie it up, the confidence he must have had in his ability to pull that move, at that point in time, with so much on the line is absolutely amazing.
I can't imagine being at this game in person. One of the greatest moments in all of sports and arguably the best in recent history, the fact that this wasn't that long ago will forever be insane to me and that's coming from a hockey fan.
I watched this entire game live, and even though I was sick at the time, it didn't prevent me from celebrating! Two years later, Nova's back in it again! *WHO'S READY FOR NOVA TO DO IT AGAIN!?*
The last 5 seconds have two of the most clutch shots ever back to back in NCAA history
insane
Paige hit what would’ve been the best shot ever in national championship history, only for it to be followed by the actual great shot in national championship history
In basketball history
So true. I had forgotten about that UNC three to tie it. Absolute insanity.
As a Kentucky fan it hurts but Sean Woods and Christian laettner with back-to-back shots was pretty great too... Unless you were a Kentucky fan
+Randy Bailin love the way you said this
unselfishly is the perfect word to describe it. love Archie as a point guard.
u mean the ref forces him to the free throw line...he missed the walk on that nova guy
its been a year mattncam408, has that salt worn off yet?
U know what was better then Jenkins shot North Carolina's march to the crown while Villanova sat at home at watched on the couch eating cheetos and drinking dr pepper

So we go from this to game 7 of the nba finals. what a great time to be a basketball fan.

too bad it wasnt lakers celtics or duke north carolina...then we would be really lucky...

And sure enough it was good.
I'm watching this 6 years later and it still gives me chills! This remains the best championship game ever...ever!
i don't always watch college basketball, but when I do I watch the greatest game in college basketball history
That's me

sounds like old school broadcasts... the crowd is so loud that you couldn't hear the announcers during final shot! love it!
I wish the Final Four and the National Championship every year could have both Tracy Wolfson and Allie LaForce on the sidelines!

VILLANOVA! PHENOMENAL!
unlocked Josh Hart Lakers!!!!!!!!!
Carolina deserved to win
TheBigD why. They played harder that entire season to get there
Nova nation..2 in 3 years baby...gotta tougher road this year but teams rebuilding.lost alot of players and leaders last year but did beat #10 Marquette yesterday
@@csoles6446 The deserved team won that night
Every UNC fan needs a hug
so incrediblyr hard to describe how it felt, even after winning it all next year and having the season we're having now.
@Haston Puckett at all bro, we coulda had 2!!!
March Madness is my by far favorite time of the year
if you love the game , you can’t help but smile at moments like this. maybe even get goosebumps
Best game in college basketball history
This is WHY I LOVE College better than pro.

Villa!

VILLANOVA!
My apartment complex must have heard the l
blood-curdling scream that emitted from my apartment when that shot found nothing but net as the clock expired. Remarkable game. One of the best finals ever. I will never get enough of watching that last 4.7 seconds. EVER. Way to rock the house Cats!!!!
Marcus Paige's sic behind-the-back crossover 59 seconds in to this video is overlooked, and was instrumental to them to even have a chance to tie it up, the confidence he must have had in his ability to pull that move, at that point in time, with so much on the line is absolutely amazing.
goosefarm99 how is it overlooked everyone is saying his shot was better
I can't imagine being at this game in person. One of the greatest moments in all of sports and arguably the best in recent history, the fact that this wasn't that long ago will forever be insane to me and that's coming from a hockey fan.
Cant believe I watched this game live!! Best NCAA championship game ever hands down !!💯💯
Still gives me chills
Cole Ashley can't stop watching this.
as shaq famously said after fisher's .4 shot, "one lucky shot deserves another"
+Joshua Han Jenkins shot wasn't lucky. What where you watching?
+Richard Johnson he was referencing Marcus Paige's 3 pointer right before.
***** thank you!
That really put the “madness” in “March madness”!
Watching in 2020 still gives me Chills 💯. The greatest college ball ever played.
I watched this entire game live, and even though I was sick at the time, it didn't prevent me from celebrating! Two years later, Nova's back in it again! *WHO'S READY FOR NOVA TO DO IT AGAIN!?*
