So how did you reattach the throttle cable? Didn’t see anything about that? Would be great to see a little more detail in vids like this. Great video though!

10 years ago, I got into 4 stroke open class go karts. At the time, they ran the 200cc engines. Started out with a cheap clone engine. During the 3 years, I swapped out pretty much everything, apart from the rocker stems. Broke 2 crankshafts, 1 set of lifter rods and rockers. Chewed up 3 stock con-rods. Embedded so much metal into the cylinder wall, I decided to build the engine from scratch. New block and side cover. Genuine Honda crankshaft. ARC billet rod, flat top piston, billet flywheel. Light weight aluminum pushrods, performance camshaft, stiffened rockers. Stainless steel valves, seats and bronze valve stems. Stiffer springs. Was a mix match of different kits available from different race shops. Also, upgraded to a Mikuni VM32. Dunno, how many horses it made(probably 12-15HP), but it got to 50-60 mph on the straights easy in a 150lb go-kart. Moral of the story: never EVER run stock clone parts past 4000 rpm. They will not survive for long, 2-3 hours tops.
This was much easier on B&S engines from the 1970's. My brother and I defeated the governor on our 2 seat Sears go-kart with an original top speed of about 18 mph. We got it up to about 35, but the engine lasted only about 45 minutes at that speed. It was a thrilling 45 minutes though.
Oh man... the bikes got messed up in the race last weekend. Should I do a video about how to fix a mini bike that's been decimated? :-) Video about the race is up now! Go watch it!
Add Straight pipe Mufler, take trotle screw off, add smaller sprocket, bigger air filter i didnt change my carb .runs nice not hard to start dont have to keep giving trotle to keep it running.
so completely remove the throttle screw??? which one is it? and did you lose a lot of low end by using a smaller sproket? What does the straight pipe muffler do for it? Thanks!
@@nobodyspecialdotorgrichard5971 They already have lots of torque so I doubt using a smaller sprocket would be that big of a deal and a straight pipe muffler increases airflow
You guys took the governor out the hard way. It is super easy to do if you remove the flywheel first. Then take a punch and push the shaft holding it into the block. Everything comes out with the shaft. Then remove the gear, You can pull that clip off easily, then put the shaft back in the block. Easy Peasy.
I did it this way but I left the clip on and when I put the shaft back I took a washer before the clip and put it back to prevent the shaft from falling into the engine if it ever happened
Glad you mentioned the stiffer valve springs, seen some people do the governor delete without mentioning(or installing) . _. Valve and piston no play patty cake
Don't be afraid to replace the rope on your original starter. It's not that hard to do to wind a new rope on. Pull the rope to put tension on the spring, wind the rope around the pulley while holding it from winding itself back, and then pull again. You can add tension this way. Once you've done a few, you'll never hesitate to take your rope start apart again. Getting it back in order is easy.
Thanks for explaining everything and showing really appreciate it no one usually takes their time to write on the screen how to do it and show it thank you
I just got my Predator 212 a few days ago and removed the governor and oil level sensor. I can't wait to mess with the carburetor, need a Mikuni!,...and my new gas tank that's coming. I can't wait to get my Coleman ct100u the way I want it! I have added a backrest and changed the seat. there is a monoshock underneath the seat attached to the frame that helps tremendously with all the bumps and bruises you're going to get along the way... Lol Wish I could show a pic of the beast! SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
That was both fun and interesting to watch. There is more involved with the upgrades than I originally thought, but this video should help! Thanks, Jason!
Here's a Hint for cold starting any of these engines. With the Kill Switch on Kill... Give it Full gas twice....Crank the engine over twice with the Choke on.... This gets a little fuel sucked into the Compression Chamber AND gets some Oil flowing at the same time (less dry start damage!) *Then Turn the KILL Switch OFF and give it a good Pull.... it should Fire right up !*
Change out those knobbys for a street tire in a different size, especially in the rear and you could probably get pretty close to 40mph. Taking off the front fender or adjusting it so it's more snug against the tire should also make a bit of a difference.

For anyone who has one of these engines, or one like it. It's basically a Chinese preditor engine. All gas seems to be crap and goes bad very fast now days. There is a plastic plug on the top of the carburetor that usually is under the idle screw. The bottom of that plastic plug has a tiny jet in it. MOST ppl including myself forget about that jet. It clogs easy, and gets gunked up when gas sits to long. It majorly affects engine idle and surging. That tiny jets makes a huge diff when trying to keep your bike running if it's clogged.
You would love my coleman mini bike. Goes 60 mph. Governor bypass, straight pipe exhaust, cold air intake, and the rear sprocket it’s now a 44 tooth and the sprocket coming off of the torque converter is I think a 12 tooth. Other than that it’s stock. I don’t know if you can run any higher octane in the motor besides 87 or if you did, would it even help it be faster
Stock bike will do 27 with the throttle screw backed out. At least according to my local speed trap sign. But looks like you guys added some torque as I see the front wheel came up! See you at the enduro!! Dirty Kid Gang
I'm not sure if everybody is aware but all you have to do is just dis connect the rigid line from the governor to the throttle plate and run a separate cable to the throttle plate.on the carburetor With a spring so the throttle goes back while depressed and that simply bypasses the governor there's no need removing the pin in the gear so you could do it with out having to remove the engine though I think that's a lot of the fun
So once you remove the linkage from the throttle on the carb to the governor, how do you get the throttle cable to connect to the throttle on the carb???
Torque converter and a v twin worked wonders for us. We used an adult size mini bike with the long seat. We add front and rear disc brakes with appropriate wheels and tires. Battery lights and signals. Licensed too. Bike has Springer front end. Its 😎
I got mine to go 31mph top speed and 17 mph average speed with cutting the gov screw and putting a zip tie on the gov arm, not sure if that really makes a difference now that I have the screw off but all I know is I’m hauling with that thing and I haven’t touched the inside of the motor. I love this thing and I’ve been having a lot of fun! Next I plan on getting the whole air filter and carburetor upgraded!

I had a machine shop advance the cam on a Honda XR250 that had a 300cc kit installed, then I used a lightened flywheel. It made a world of difference and I'm sorry I ever sold that bike.
You would need to maintain the throttle spring connected the governor arm but have a separate solid linkage from the throttle to the carb. You have to have something pulling the gov arm toward the carb. A spring would be best because it allows the governor parts to move and return. The idea is still not a good one. People take the gov gear out because they are afraid that it may blow apart at high RPM and cause serious engine damage. They believe that the plastic gear and it's components were not designed for high RPM operation. On the bike in this video governor removal is a waste of time if you know you will be installing a torque convertor. If you have a stock Coleman 200 and want more speed get a torque converter and leave the stock throttle linkage and governor alone. Removing the governor will not increase top speed with a torque convertor and stock gearing on the Coleman.
I'm planning on getting a Coleman bt200 for my birthday in December for I can ride to school when I do that I'm removing the governor for I can go faster
Just remember that they aren't road legal. Maybe you live in a cool town that doesn't care. And they don't have a key or anything so anyone can start it. :-)
next time, valve adj, try using a box end wrench. You can stay on the nuts easier. Also, when adjusted, the proper size feeler gauge can be worked in the gap, the next size larger cant, just check.
Hey! Check out my “Jason On 2 Wheels” playlist. The minibike build videos after this one are much better and follow a good portion of your suggestions. 😁
What is the performance difference between the 18lb spring and the 22lb spring for the stock coleman ct200 engine? Would putting in 22lb springs hurt any performance?
If you didn’t notice, there is a screw on top of the motor for the parents to control the speed of the motorbike, it is set pretty low, if you take it out like I did, I get 35mph with the stock motor with no modifications
When doing valve adjustment the engine should always be cold. I don't know why you made them tighter than the spec you were told. That is counter productive as the valve naturally get tight over time and you just shortened the time when you will need to adjust them again. If anything you should have made them a little looser and gone 7 and 9 instead of 5 and 7. This not only allows for more time between adjustment, but it allows a little more flow through the valves and less wear on the cam lobes.
It goes about 45 if you drop the toque converter and straight chain it to the engine to drive sprocket also you could have bypassed all the governors removal by attaching a cable from the throttle to the governors float arm under the gas tank
Just built my own mini bike from scratch. Using the cheapest engine I could find, first ride 35 mph no mods. I think I might try this maybe I hit 45 lol. I got small ass tires tho pretty sketchy at that speed.
Where can I get those springs at? I know u said they were 18lbs... But what size and stuff ? Curious on how u found that info and where I can get them... Please! 🙏 Thank u in advance!
Stupid question, i bought a Coleman bt200x and about the 5th day my chain popped off, i got it back on but it's SUPER loose, anyone know how I would tighten the chain? Thank you for any answers!
Put a torque converter ( belt drive CVT ) that you can get from Go Power Sports or other Cart/Minibike parts distributor and with your modifications you should be able to hit around 50 mph. That stock centrifugal clutch and jackshaft set up really slows you down unless you gear it for top speed and if you do that your acceleration suffers.
@@JasonExplainsThings yeah, RUclips recommended that one about 3 hours after I commented lol. I'm running a 212 Predator and Torque Converter, stock carb, stock valve springs, governor delete, and an exhaust off a little Chinese 4 wheeler modified a little, stock rear sprocket. I'm topping out at an average of 43mph, a best of 46mph. I'm in the process of starting a RUclips channel and when I'm ready I'll post a video or two with some more stuff like a ported/polished head etc..., maybe even a Kohler 740cc Vtwin engine swap out of a welding machine. Before I retired for medical reasons I built racing engines/dragbikes for a living, machine work, porting heads, running a flow bench were things I did daily for 25 years... Might not be a Top Fuel Harley engine builder anymore but I'm gonna build something stupid with this minibike.
Maybe someday but not really. It tops out from just under 4000 RPM to maybe 6500. I put a tachometer on the bike so don't hang out over 4000 for long periods of time. It's not like if you keep giving it gas it blows immediately or anything.

Removing the governor will not increase top speed with a torque convertor and stock gearing on the Coleman.
did you notice the front tire bounces and make the forks vibrate alot when you take off till you get up to speed
easier way is to change the size of the drive sprocket with a 2 part so u can swap sizes out but nice video !
Laughing with you ! Great video ! I just picked up a minibike just like yours,
I'm planning on getting a Coleman bt200 for my birthday in December for I can ride to school when I do that I'm removing the governor for I can go faster
Just remember that they aren't road legal. Maybe you live in a cool town that doesn't care. And they don't have a key or anything so anyone can start it. :-)
Change the back sprocket to a 63 tooth, bump up the carb and you will get the same if not more power out of it, much easier
The rattling sound at 2:21 that seems to come from the fork or front fender....how can I eliminate that? What is rattling?
Bruce Poindexter if you find out let me know!
next time, valve adj, try using a box end wrench.
With a gearing adjustment or a torque converter I bet it could get in the upper 40s or even 50
Awesome!! I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago!
You can also loosen the screw on the throttle to make it go faster too.
Mine had that screw removed. Still pretty slow.
Why not 3 and 3 on the valve lash I threw a stage 2 kit in mine and the papers that came with the kit told me to lash them to 3 on both valves
“-Just took out the governor.”
*FBI open up!*
What is the performance difference between the 18lb spring and the 22lb spring for the stock coleman ct200 engine? Would putting in 22lb springs hurt any performance?
Like you like me! like your honesty and characterisations.
Thanks!
If you didn’t notice, there is a screw on top of the motor for the parents to control the speed of the motorbike, it is set pretty low, if you take it out like I did, I get 35mph with the stock motor with no modifications
Mine had that screw removed and still only went 23. But maybe some Colemans are different.
im thinking about getting another one to make it fast, the one i have now i use for offroad.
Yep. Check out the build video from 2019. With a torque converter it went 44.
Your videos are funny as hell and I'm learning something
Nice work Jason. Thanks for sharing!
MnJ Outdoors thanks for watching! Your views and positive feedback means a lot.
What app do you use for the speedometer
Updated the description to answer this question. The most asked question by far. :-)
Good job, and fun! I recommend editing your vid and covering your POV plates so the midnight rambler doesn't visit your garage. Just say'n...
Just took governer and all linkage now I have the problem of the butterfly on carb our do you make that work for air flow
Stupid question, i bought a Coleman bt200x and about the 5th day my chain popped off, i got it back on but it's SUPER loose, anyone know how I would tighten the chain? Thank you for any answers!
I know I'm a little late to this video but you can move the throttle restrictor out and you will gain speed
Oil sensor is intended for stationary engines. Not moving equipment so removal of sensor is needed.
"Learn how to do it yourself!"
My motto, right or wrong! :D
Yes sir... check out the minibike build video done a year after this one.
Might not be a Top Fuel Harley engine builder anymore but I'm gonna build something stupid with this minibike.
you had me motivated and inspired to want to do things for myself and the next thing you said was you ordered a new pull start rope. hahaha
Also screw ups can actually make creativity. Sometimes it works in you're favor. That's how things evolve
If you remove the govener that means that the bike can rev till it blows? correct?
Maybe someday but not really. It tops out from just under 4000 RPM to maybe 6500. I put a tachometer on the bike so don't hang out over 4000 for long periods of time. It's not like if you keep giving it gas it blows immediately or anything.
When you did your spring’s how did you hold your valves up ?
Im a new subscriber. I stumbled across your videos and here i am
how did you take off the speed limiter,/govenor oboma
I recommend a Genuine Stella 150cc scooter with a polini kit and sito plus exhaust.Way fun!
I just did another build video! Added a Torque Converter, Predator 212 Hemi and Front Suspension. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/_RaZy4w6oUw/видео.html
First i thot it was click bait
You are an amazing RUclips by working on the mini bike 💪
@@chrisromo8845 Click bate is not my thing... for better or worse.
What’s the app called to count your speed
Great video guys, never mind the subject .. just great production!!
Nigel’s Mustang and Models many thanks!
I screwed up something when I took the governor off my mini bike now it goes full throttle when I turn off the choke. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Can you get one without a governor because I can’t do all the stuff
This is probably your best/only bet. It still has the governor gear, but comes with a good carburetor and is slightly set up for use in mini bikes or go karts. But honestly there's nothing wrong with just leaving it stock if you don't want to mess with it:

All I do is punch the pin holding the governor from outside of crankcase. Then trim pin and reinstall pin to close hole.
