    I have a brand new ct200-ex mini bike and I am keeping it stock. I like the way that it handles now. I will buy a new mini bike with a clutch, torque converter and comet drive belt if I want to go faster!!!!! Your upgrades are fantastic if a person wants to go faster on these 200 series mini bikes. Hey Red beard ,If you back out the screw that holds the throttle from getting its peak power, there is a great difference but the two random holes on the throttle arm hit the bracket so I ground those holes off and got just a little more power, it works great.

    There's even more power and torque to be had if you change the sprockets on the crank. The only issue is that the clutches might burn up from the stress.

    Instead of using zip ties you can cut a few coils out of the throttle return spring so you get more throttle. I was hitting 28MPH with this. I was hitting close to 5K and lowered it though with the throttle stop screw cuz I don't have my billet rod installed yet.

  • @FireAndGasoline
    @FireAndGasoline 7 лет назад +9

    Huge difference with that sprocket swap!! The ziptie trick is the first thing i do to an engine, never had a problem. The way i do it, i cut the head off of one zip tie and put it on the other zip tie. That way its somewhat adjustable( you dont have to tighten it all the way). You can do it that way without removing the tank by feeding the ziptie from the carb side.

      can also play games with where the springs are located on the arms, or different weight springs, or alter the springs length. totally recommend spending the 30 bucks for a mini tach to know what you're getting with changes. edit: IMHO, better to have the governor in place working about 44-4500 RPM, with a stock mill that's a bit to the high side as a reminder "hey back off a little!".

    • @ilovecheesecake516
      @ilovecheesecake516 4 года назад +1

      will it mess up the engine?

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline 4 года назад

      @@ilovecheesecake516 some people say it can, we have never had an issue. It usually wont rev high enough just doing that to cause valve float. To really get the most out of your engine safely, you want a cam, billet rod and a lightweight flywheel atleast.

    Hi Red Beard. I tried the zip tie trick on the spring and gained 5mph. From 25 mph to 30. Would only do 20 out of the box and then backed that screw out that stops the throttle and got it to 25. My neighbor has a Honda trail 70 with a speedo and said his said 28 when I was at top speed.I'm using this SpeedTracker app. I wanna go riding with him right now but he's not home and i can't wait cause I have that performance up grade from Go Power Sports and I'm putting it on today. Thanks for the code and the 10%. I also picked up the muffler. I;m gonna test it for top speed with and without it but for just riding around my neighbor hood after work, a typical suburb 5 miles north of Detroit, and I don't need unhappy neighbors. Awesome videos, everything is explained in detail but plain and simple. Thanks....JOE

      The header gave me 3mph and the air cleaner and jet and tube gave me 2 more for a top speed of 35 and tons of torque, and I weigh 292. Oh yeah, when I did the zip tie I started the motor like usual, put the choke on, pull the rope and when I turned the choke off the bike started to move thats how much more rpm's there was.Where next? I'm not sold on a torque converter, everyone saya it's much faster but most people at the Detroit mini bike races use clutches and some are hitting 60+. ruclips.net/video/oXAjZeHu79w/видео.html

    I much prefer clutches over torque converters on minibikes even in the woods. With the right gearing they work great much better response than a torque converter

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 7 лет назад +1

      TC's have that slip/grab action that isn't always as consistent/predictable as a clutch. TC's are cool for how they'll give grunt then grow legs too for sure.

    • @budgettacticool8593
      @budgettacticool8593 6 лет назад +1

      I prefer my torque converter because I like low and top end. I have 3 mini bikes, one is geared low with a clutch and only does 25 but will get there quick as hell, the other is geared high with a clutch and does 58mph but takes a little while to get there and my torque converter bike does 49mph and gets there real quick. For slow rides the geared low bike is great, for long high speed rides my geared high bike is great but for all around riding the torque converter takes the cake. That's just my opinion as well as you have yours. No matter what, we can all agree mini bikes are fun as hell

    Bought one of these because of you guys lol! I’ve been working on perfecting my build, I’ve done a few things with it sofar just an air intake carb jet upgrade gov screw removed and ziptie trick and I’m topping out at 33-34 mph. Next up I wanna remove the actual gov and put on one of these sprockets. At some point I straight chained it and topped out at 54 mph that was fun until the chain snapped😂 so I just went back to the regular jackshaft and she runs fine again. Definitely recommend for any beginner I went into this with zero experience and have learned so much just on my own let alone what y’all have taught me through these weeks! Keep putting mini bike vids out!

    I've never heard of the zip tie trick. I feel a little dumb now for spending an hour making a new linkage instead of taking 3 minutes to zip tie the spring. I may put the stock setup back on and do the zip tie trick since my custom linkage has stuck wide open on me a couple of times. I'm also going to do a 60T sprocket now instead of saving up for the torque converter. I think that will suit my needs just fine, and the clutch seems like its holding up pretty well. I don't think I'll mind going a lil slower since its borderline scary fast on the trails right now.

    • @RedBeardsGarage

      Red Beard's Garage I did a test of how long the engine will last on full throttle without the governor. The first thing that happened was the oil scooper on the rod broke off and shot out the block. Then the piston and the valves started to seize made make it harder on the connecting rod and rod then it finally blew up. ( the connecting rod shot out the side.) rip predator 212cc.

      said above, just not a fan of removing a governor on a stock mill, much better to get (or borrow) a mini tach and play games with the springs to set a limit/reminder, than not. older stock briggs usually cut out about 3700-3800 RPM, but 4500 RPM was a pretty safe limit for them. if I remember correctly, stock 5hp briggs powered go-kart limit was 5k RPM. being they're much like a 1 cylinder VW engine, understandable!

    Nice. Those sprockets are huge! Can you also change the sprockets on the clutch to get more torque or to smooth out the ridiculous torque you have now? Can't wait to see these w/o gov'nr and a torque converter.

      Instead of doing that I would just mess with the sprocket on the wheel. We love the 60 tooth on these bikes.

    The governor is there to keep from over revving the engine, floating the valves and potentially destroying the connecting rod. You can put stronger valve springs in to deal with the lack of a governor.

    The reason for the camo being a bit slower is, the cellphone has a cloaking program that takes just a smigen of electrical energy. Therefore when it goes into the cloak the human body picks up another pound or two, thus slowing the bike. Other things is the bike cloaker weighs about 23 pounds not cloaked, and when cloaked older cloaker clog the cloak filter, thus adding a few pounds. But, after my research, I can't really found a friggin reason for its slower mode, unless one of you is rather well endowed in the body parts and adds some weight. But, I did subscribe just soes I can keep up with the great things you do in your great vis. Keep up the great vids, looking forward to many more!

    I don't like the stock chain or sprocket if I don't add a torque converter but just add the new sprocket could I keep life long still for the engine doing that ?

    Cool video. It's always fun to get more speed. I used to ride minibikes but that was 40 years ago. Now I have electric mountain-bikes which are actually pretty cool. You can usually add an extra battery to up the voltage and get more speed. I like the kits because you can change parts like the motor controller to handle the extra voltage and current. Also, I swear by 12AH deep-cycle SLA batteries (like Powersonic, for example) because they are easy to deal with (simple charger, no balancer), fairly inexpensive and lots of power... But they are heavy, so you always have to figure out a way to mount them mid-frame. 1/2" plywood and Gorilla tape works for me. The rear hub-motor never burns out, so you can run a 36V motor at 48V or 60V, (if you are crazy enough :-). Just make sure to have good knobby tires:and V-brakes for your mountain bike. -)
    But, seriously, I usually just ride my bike at 36V because it gets me to the store and back with no problems. :-)

    Hey guys! That's slower cause it's heavier! Or the governor needs a tweak. Back in the day my friends and I would attach a small length of light string to the governor mechanism, so when we hit the top sled governor we could reach down and pull the string up to get the revs so high the valves would float! We got to the point where we knew just how far we could go. The next thing I tried was to shorten the pull rod that connected to the governor fan blade, so I did not need to use a string, it was all in the throttle! I could get about 31 mph out of that 3.5 hp Fox mini! Where it would only get to about 26 before. But of coarse by the end of July I needed another engine! So I bought a new 5 hp B&S! Horizontal shaft with a 1" crank that I was able to adapt a tq converter to! But it just made that small bike dangerous! As it only had a poor rear cable operated disk brake in the rear that clamped onto the sprocket! So in effect it had ABS! But it would run away from the Sears mini I told you about before! That had a two speed jack shaft 4 hp Tecumseh! So if the wear and tear in the engine does not matter to you, try tweaking the governor, if there still mechanical! All they were before was a fan blade in the engine cooling cover that at high speed would pivot and was attached to a rod going up to the carb, that had a mechanical device with a slot in it that would throttle the engine down! Very easy to mess with! I believe those small engines are governed to around 3,400 rpm's, but can runout to a bit over 4,000 before the valves float! But that was on the older flathead engines back then. Those engines on the bikes you have seam to be slanted and OHV, if so they could rev a bit higher! Good luck have fun and stay safe!
