- This video brings us to this Starbucks location with drive thru where I was documenting the comings & goings of the late morning taking place. Within 5-10 minutes of recording, I began receiving interactions from customers as they were exiting the the drive thru lane & entering back into traffic. Some were curious , some were trying to tell me what I was doing was illegal. I even got what appeared to be a cam back or two. Eventually police were called & arrived on scene. Apparently the calling party said I was obstructing traffic. if anyone was obstructing traffic from my perspective, would have been each vehicle that chose to stop & engage in conversation with me. I informed the officer to check store cameras to show where I was documenting from the entire time. The two officers eventually got back inside their patrol cars & left without incident.
A definite fail goes to the calling parties , but at the end of the day hopefully they were enlightened about the basics of public documenting photography/videography.

If only they know the amount of info their car collects on them so the dealers can sell that info...they would be upset.

I've said this in other audit videos but never in my 50 years have I felt the need to go up to anyone in public and demand to know what they're doing. I find it absolutely bizarre that someone feels privileged enough to demand answers from strangers in PUBLIC.

I am in utter disbelief the amount of entitled people who think that it is a wise decision to go up to a stranger on a public sidewalk and ask, often with an attitude, what they're doing! THEN to have the audacity to roll your window down, get their attention and then say that you don't want to be filmed! REALLY!?!? Even before I knew what an auditor was, it never dawned on me to go up to a stranger who was not breaking the law and ask them what they're doing because it wasn't my business!!!!

When the officer said he got a call about you obstructing their driveway, it would have been great if you would have said...look around, you can for yourself that the only obstructiion of a driveway is your vehicle, perhaps you need to investigate that.

Keep in mind that without the 911 or non-emergency call transcripts, we don't know who came up with the obstructing traffic claim. It is entirely possible, even likely, that the cop made that up just to try and scare you to leave. He can legally fabricate just about any scenario to justify his presence, including his reason for contact.

Bad enough that they call just to report someone photographing, as if that's a crime, but when they say something false like you're blocking their driveway, then THEY have committed a crime by filing a false report to the police. It's particularly ironic in this case because the cop who responded blocked the driveway next door. Classic.

It is so unusual for the victim of a car theft to ever recover the car. As I understand, about 3% of stolen vehicles are recovered.

You might mention to the people who ask you why your videoing the following: It has come to my attention that the exit of this establishment causes traffic problems. I'm just documenting vehicles leaving this establishment and joining street traffic and how dangerous that has become at certain times. As a sidenote, it is fairly amazing to me how vulgar women have become in this modern society. You never said anything out of line to them but they felt it was necessary to denigrate you. Another thing that could be said to some of these smart mouth women is, I am documenting some of the alleged ladies of the evening who use this facility.
That's because they don't have a real man in their life.

The obstructing that took place was from people stopping to engage you instead of just minding their own business and driving off. So I'm pretty sure that was the complaint that cars were slow getting out because self absorbed morons were stopping to complain. You were not bothering them first.

What a shame, I consider Eastside Costa Mesa my hometown. When I lived there, everyone was so laid-back and friendly. It breaks my heart to see the neighborhood turn into a bunch of Karen’s and snowflakes.

It's always Starbucks customers that have the most aggressive sense of entitlement. That speaks volumes about the nature of their clientele.
Any time someone asks you what you are doing, you should just simply say, "I'm making an educational video." That gives you the perfect opportunity then to educate them, which I am assuming is the purpose of 1A audits.
