Look up Gajin hunter or Ruikan. Both of them have amazing introductions to the series, as well as Super rad who is doing a history of every weapon and Handitips gaming who atm is live streaming GU on RUclips and hopefully soon with Rise
Imo one of the best ways to get into the series is to have a (hopefully patient) friend who already loves MH play the game with you. They can walk you through basics to get you started, and then over the course of the early-game they could answer or help you understand some of the less intuitive stuff. I hated MH1 when I tried it on my own. I didn't like Tri when I played with another person who never tried it before. Then I gave it another shot with MH3U with a more experienced player (along with some early Gaijin Hunter tutorials) and fell in love. I introduced some friends to World in a similar way and they got really into it as well.

Wtf?!?... how is this so awesome looking, and play so well compared to Scarlet/Violet? Peeps who say that Switch needs a pro obviously haven't seen this game, and should demand GameFreak create Pokémon games that actually work well.
I have to ask with the charge blade. What happened to the block indicators? Certain parts in some animations, it blocks an attack better than blocking normally. Monster generations had steam to indicate when in the animations can block, helping people know when to do it. Then they removed that in world and rise. Why did the remove this? I so hope the patch it back in
Loved your energy in the video Alex! You just sounded so excited and like you really enjoyed the game and really love the Monster Hunter series! I was already hyped as a long time Monster Hunter fan, but now I'm feeling even more energized and can't wait to play!
I have one question... how's the remapping? The demo didn't let me remap the controls in a way that leads to less mistakes. I wanted Y and X to be attack buttons and A to be the sheathe/use item button but it wouldn't let me do that.
@@ralphtaylor7448 That's what I was asking. I was asking if the main game lets you remap the buttons freely, because the demo only lets you choose between templates. I don't want to drop $60 only to find out that it works the same way as the demo.

I bought my Switch because of Rise. MHRise for me really feels worth it having the fresh experience. It doesnt really feel that short but it does feel easy. Been playing MHGU now and goes back to MHRise when I feel like it. MHRise is great if you are playing to finish the game, it only doesnt feel great grinding for HR999. Nevertheless, you can wait for the G Rank expansion release in 2022 if you don't want to on Switch. Plus MHR is also set to release in PC in 2022 Edit: Focus on getting MH6 tho (World: Iceborne is MH5 Ultimate while Rise is MH5 Portable), I suggest, since you can play Rise in PC. MH6 may come in PS5/XBSXish like hardware.
I'm late to the party, but looking to buy the game and... Wow. I'm having difficulty believing this was captured on the Switch. It looks and performs amazing! I have a silly question though: can I pause the game? I bought it for PC and refunded because I couldn't, but I heard that you can pause on the Switch, either by going to the home menu, or via an option in game.
Nintendo and Capcom should capitalize on this opportunity and have Nintendo monsters as dlc such as Ridley and Kraid from Metroid, Dry Bowser from Mario and Ganon from Zelda. Make it happen please
I recommend finding a group to run through or some people to teach you the ropes. Starting out and learning a weapon can be REALLY rough. Stick with it though. Once you click with a weapon, the combat becomes super risk, super reward. Every big hit feels so good and crunchy.

How do you like it?
Can’t wait! I have it preloaded ready to go, just waiting for my pro controller to arrive now 😌
This might be an even better birthday present than I expected!
Honestly, I would love a video introducing me to the game. I've always been on the fence and never really gave the series a chance. This review is definitely leaning me in one direction
I’ve been playing since Monster Hunter Freedom and this is the most excited I’ve been since Monster Hunter Unite. This and all Monster Hunter games are 100% worth it. Can’t wait for my special edition system and limited edition game to arrive.
Ah, a fellow freedom player. Yeah, Freedom Unite was an incredible release day! We finally got G Rank for the first time in the states haha.
Nintendo Life giving this game 9/10
Ah I'm so happy to see my old nemesis, the Zinogre, has made it here too.
1:29 what weapon is this?
Thrilled to hear this is good, pre-ordered the hell out of it now. Can't wait for Friday
4:04 while I like the new HH changes, this is quite a bold statement, some parts of the player base are clearly not happy with the changes.
i think we can change it to older one with switching major move at tent, its win win solution
@@Gummi2946 Skill description isn't clear enough for me, it only suggest that buffs are applied through performance (ZR) with it and not that the core movesets is changed.
Really need more info before we can say that it's like the old HH.
well yes its said just implying buff like older gen. but not guarantee other move as same as older one. i think its cool tho replacing it to old performance. maybe the minor move switch will solve a thing
@@keriol7966 Here's the thing, Ichinose said that the Horn draw attack can be any note, but the HH doesn't have a draw attack anymore, so unless the move was cut during development, there has to be a way to switch to it
@@Gummi2946 Spoiler we know how this works now and it's only a bit similar to the old playstyle.
Songs are no longer 2 note auto-plays. Instead, 1 note=1 song.
You can queue up to 4 notes/songs at once.
When you hit ZR, there's a new recital (which doesn't seem to have I frames, as it's not the Adept/Invigoration animation). Using it plays all the songs you currently have queued.
2:28 holy shit. World’s biggest problem, it was dragon hunter.
Can you create a black cat? I can't seem to edit mine. Just gray at best.
I can't wait to play 1k+ hours in this game. I hope they have an interesting end game mechanic to keep me playing like in MH4U. Missed out on MHGU since I didn't have a switch and I buy limited edition console of every MH game since MH4U.
It's Monster Hunter. The answer will always be "yes."
Every time I play the Demos for these games I find myself enjoying it but I always feel excited hearing fans talk about the series and their games. Hopefully my time will come but I saw someone mention MH stories so I might try that out next
Edit:
Watching this game play looks so exciting though 🤣 maybe I should try one more time, from level 1 with the full game instead of the demo
0:33 his character looking just like him had me laughing out loud 😂😂😂
IGN could take lessons from you on doing video reviews. Great review, good presentation, not ambiguous as to good points of the video.
Nice review. Kudos.
Probalby best to note that you can use a USB keyboard to chat in the game.
It doesn't replace voice chat but it'll help for communication with randoms.
I just purchased MH: Rise, it arrives Thursday, and I'm excited for my first experience with the series
i got REALLY exited when i saw that rise is coming to pc (i kinda hit the wall in world, grinding out "leitlande" (dunno how its called in english) kinda gets boring relativly fast) and actually seeing the gameplay now gave me even more exitment even tho i didnt know what to think about the demo (im an insectglaive user and everything felt more floaty and i wasnt used to such a slow bug). but rise will definitly be something i will have to check out, so ye, thanks for that review
For me, Monster Hunter Rise was the most beautiful graphically and the most stable 30 fps gameplay on Nintendo Switch 🤤😍
Quick question. Does it support HD rumble? I’m thinking about buying a new pro controller but if it doesn’t support HD rumble, I don’t see the point.
_anyone else just replaying this until it comes out?_
This will be my first monster hunter game I'm getting really excited to see how it plays and try out all the weapons.
Picking up this game tomorrow, and Switch comes in Monday. New Switch owner(of course amidst rumored Pro model "coming")excited to play this and the many other exclusives. Put in 700 hours into World, so really hoping this game is well supported :)
Anyone knows that name with that sword/club with a mouth? It appears at 4:09
I want it so badly.
Khezu hunting horn
Is it only me or the radial menu placement feels unpractical :/ I'd rather have smaller shortcut menu than the wheel :C
It can be disabled if it's frustrating. I did it in the demo as I rarely touch the menu
How is this game solo? How is the connection? Is it easy to meet people? Thanks
Are the skills more akin to the world system or an older mh or totally different?
do palicos still have the palico gear things?you know the heal wasp and coral ocastra
april 10( my birthday) cant come sooner enough for me to finaly play this amazing game.
Wtf?!?... how is this so awesome looking, and play so well compared to Scarlet/Violet? Peeps who say that Switch needs a pro obviously haven't seen this game, and should demand GameFreak create Pokémon games that actually work well.
that khezu hunting horn is the closest we get to a naruto collab (kisames sword)
I have to ask with the charge blade. What happened to the block indicators? Certain parts in some animations, it blocks an attack better than blocking normally. Monster generations had steam to indicate when in the animations can block, helping people know when to do it.
Then they removed that in world and rise. Why did the remove this? I so hope the patch it back in
Is the game support rumble? How it's feels?
Loved your energy in the video Alex! You just sounded so excited and like you really enjoyed the game and really love the Monster Hunter series! I was already hyped as a long time Monster Hunter fan, but now I'm feeling even more energized and can't wait to play!
Just bought it I’m excited my time playing hopefully I’m not disappointed 😞
12:06 That is until you play both the village AND hub quest sections of the story.
Every time someone hears "Hello lovely people you take a sip of beer
I’ve never played a Monster Hunter game. Been wanting to play one for a while. I’m gonna pick this up.
I have one question... how's the remapping? The demo didn't let me remap the controls in a way that leads to less mistakes. I wanted Y and X to be attack buttons and A to be the sheathe/use item button but it wouldn't let me do that.
You have to buy the main game you idiot
@@ralphtaylor7448 That's what I was asking. I was asking if the main game lets you remap the buttons freely, because the demo only lets you choose between templates. I don't want to drop $60 only to find out that it works the same way as the demo.
@@waxwinged_hound typical switch owners all hype no money
@@ralphtaylor7448 I don't want to waste money on a game I won't be able to enjoy. I'd be able to buy it, I just don't want it to go to waste if I won't enjoy it.
You can easily remap the buttons in the Switch system settings, save them as Monster Hunter, then load them as needed.
Is it worth it to buy a switch to play mh rise? Im also planning to play other games on switch but rise will be my 1st game that i would play, I also finished iceborne on pc.
Plus MHR is also set to release in PC in 2022
Edit: Focus on getting MH6 tho (World: Iceborne is MH5 Ultimate while Rise is MH5 Portable), I suggest, since you can play Rise in PC.
Presumably if you go to the home menu the game will not just continue playing in the background, right?
How is the battery life on Switch v1?
Nintendo and Capcom should capitalize on this opportunity and have Nintendo monsters as dlc such as Ridley and Kraid from Metroid, Dry Bowser from Mario and Ganon from Zelda. Make it happen please
800 thumbs up?! Looks like this will be my first monster hunter game.
Welcome to the hunt! Glad to have you!
I recommend finding a group to run through or some people to teach you the ropes. Starting out and learning a weapon can be REALLY rough. Stick with it though.
Once you click with a weapon, the combat becomes super risk, super reward. Every big hit feels so good and crunchy.
This franchise will definetly suck your time if you really into it. Played FU and Portable 3rd in PSP back in the days ❤️ and 4U, XX on 3DS. Sooo happy on what this franchise become. Truly one of the best games out there..
I’m not the biggest monster hunter guy. Didn’t really love the demo or World but I’m glad the Switch is getting bangers. I’ve been playing a lot of PS5 and my Series S just came, but I still can’t put my switch down. Enjoy everyone! Seems like this game is getting awesome reviews!
THIS IS THE BEST REVIEW FOR MONSTER HUNTER RISE ON RUclips!!! THANKS 🙏
Both this AND GameXplain’s review of Monster Hunter Rise. GameXplain did an interesting review by having a newcomer and veteran perspective.
You should make a introduction video :)!!! And just talk about your history with it and favorite weapon etc :)
This might be my first monster hunter game, but I'm only going to get it if I know how good playing with just one friend is
IMO one friend is more than enough, that's how I hunted in GU.
Lol I barely had any friends when playing MH games. MHW would've been good with friends but I don't have any so yeah. Multiplayer kinda sucked too.
Drop your fc and ill hunt with you 👍🏿
My brother and I have brought down countless Monsters, Just the Two of Us.
OK, yes, the credits did roll WAY earlier than expected, ironically enough, the only monster that I died to was Khezu, though that's probably because that's the last monster I used the base armor against.
After that, it was Khezu armor team for life and beat Magnamalos and the others first try.
My first Monster Hunter game, its amazing!
i love that this palamute is named "Pączki" which means donuts in polish xD
I wish you didn't spoil at least half of the monsters/bosses in the game
6:26 Narrator: "your weapon is now able to be personalice in a scale that is NEVER BEFORE been seen in the MH franchise"
MH Gen and Gen-U: "am I a joke to you?"
Is Doshin The Giant one of the monsters you can hunt?
Already put 20 hours into the demo 😂
AGHHHH THE CHARACTER ALEX MADE LOOKS LIKE ALEX THIS IS SO COOL
Is this game good single player I'm not going to play connected to internet , will I miss out or is online better?
waaaait generation for 3ds wasnt japan exclusive was it? i remember playing it on my 3ds
So I have a question guys I just purchased the game and before I play it I am worried it’s going to take me a while to get decent at fighting and learning how to fight in general. Or is it not that hard to learn how to utilize your weapons and stuff. Any tips or thoughts would be much appreciated! Hope everyone is enjoying the game
I especially like the fact you pointed out the pandemic when talking about the endgame. We really are in a once every hundred years kind of ordeal, it's a totally fair thing to point out. I'd imagine there are quite a few game developers just trying to hold thier lives together who'd say the same thing. Cheers!
We gonna ignore what he said about 20:50 ???
This is my first ever Monster Hunter game. And ohhhh boy lemme tell you... It's worth it.
