- A common plague of Ford 2.5 engines, this Escape presented with a dead misfire on cylinder one. Upon inspection, I found a failed ignition coil caused by oil intrusion into the spark plugs wells. Come along with me as we correct this failure and get this thing back on the road!
Thank you so much for sharing this very informative video. I successfully completed the valve cover gasket swap. As an amateur, it took me much longer, but boy am I glad it worked. Best of luck to you!
I always preview upcoming jobs to get an idea what I am up against & this was HUGELY informative! I always see little things to look for when doing the job! I'll let you know what the outcome is when completed!
Thank God I found this video straight to the point
Thanks Man. I'm a DIY. Gonna try it on 2010 Mariner. Great vid.
Great clear video . For this job they want to charge me $ 360. . Only 30, 45 min.
I will do it my self.
Thank you.
My mechanic tried to scam $700 for this job. I'll do it myself for $70.
Experts: "Put sealer on 2 spots ONLY".....
Me: Dips entire valve cover in RTV BLACK
great video as usual, i think one reason for not commenting all the time is the noise level in that workshop, cant hear yourself think let alone talk, for me the visual was fine.
That's a lot of my reasoning as well. I may have to make a compromise and do some voice overs, I think that would work well.
Thank's Bud,was good to see how to do gasket+plugs on a 2.5L Escape.
job well done.. very informative video, easy to follow.. thank you.. may i know what kind of liquid spray in can do you use to clean up excess oil??
Very well done video! I have worked on jets in the Navy and this video is perfect,
Great video Joe! I probably wouldn’t rev the engine past 3 grand cold, but other than that you were very thorough! Thanks for the video! 👍
I've never used sealant on the corners. I didn't know you were supposed to, ha but it doesn't leak so I guess it's ok for now. I might take them off and apply some. Thanks for the video.
I found it right in time as I have to work on it in the morning.
Was that brake clean that you used to clean the engine with?
Great video. DIY myself with your help. Thanks
I did everything step by step.. after I was done it through some codes. Oxygen sensor monitor
Auction sensor heater monitor
Cat monitor
EGR and VVT system monitor
Evaporative system
Is there something I did wrong or could have not plugged in?
Freaking excellent job….nice man. 🍷Need the socket that holds plugs, lifts them off with spong thingy inside. Easy to place new ones in to finger tight, anyway…I do one at a time…just me.
What is the sealer you put on those 2 spots? Thanks
RTV Sealant to provide extra protection in those spots. amzn.to/2Zslpoq
Here's a good close-up of why it goes there: ruclips.net/video/Y-aScxyk7pM/видео.html
I think a voice over on what your doing would make the video better... still a good video tho
Thanks for the video. You made it look it easy
Apparently the gaskets and process to replace them is identical to 2.0L v4 found in 1st gen Ford Focus.
Break Cleaner we used to clean the valve?
Was hoping you would tell us what tools you used. I can figure it out. What was the calking like stuff you put in the four corners??
Very well done, easy for anyone to do, thanks
89 INCH lbs????? wtf man, thanks for the heads up on that!!!! 3 bolts torqued off. now mind you i had purchased a shotty torque wrench, but SERIOUSLY??? INCH POUNDS???? who does that dude. btw great video, I love what you did with my sensation of feeling like a man, driving down in my mazda tribute even with 3 bolts missing... but ya, next time just a heads up, for people like me who don't pay attention to these little details..
i had to go check my toolbox to make sure yall didn't steal my chinesium freight bearing race driver set :))
holy mess making @23:34 !
I use an old shop air "A/C system venturi vac pump", through a bucket/container with lid to suck the oil and cleaner out of the holes. no shop vacs there, unless you want a possible vac-bomb, lol. I used the same thing for digging carbon out of old engines heads with plugged oil return holes ( yeah lots of carbon!)
as a side note, with 5+ gallon bucket and it can be used as an oil extractor among other things if your crafty :)
In the beginning you were cleaning the components off with a spray, was that brake cleaner... that’s a safe way to clean the engine?
I want to know too!
Haha, I forgot I typed this!!
I ended up doing this job on my escape and yes, I used brake cleaner and compressed air to clean around the engine where I was about to open and work.
Nice job... I do however enjoy the play by play audio... I understand that it is not always possible,
RJC3po, I think for my next video I'll do a voice over. Best of both worlds
Very solid and satisfying video!! 2👍🏿's🆙!
Is that brake clean? Wouldn't that damage something under the hood? Seems like that shit melts plastics
Great reason Leonard
A block of open space in the back...everything pushed forward or hidden underneath...engineers. I miss my secondary auto: 98 Saturn sl2. So, easy to upkeep and ran like a champ until a car accident.
That is great
Wouldn't it have been easier to clean the spark plug wells and replace the plugs before putting the valve cover back on?
ebay has haskets AND valve cover package....is it a good idea to replace the cover also. Seem the middle gaskets need to be different per usual INTERNAL leaks.
What spray did you use to clean the top of the engine before taking it apart?
Doing this today, my mechanic said it's brake cleaner
What size socket do I need for the spark plug removal? And what do you do when the spark plug is seized. I also have some oil intrusion but don't have an effective way to clean it out. But I want to do it myself as I cant afford to get someone to do it for me.
Thanks!
I have this exact problem. Can you tell me what agents you used? The sealant and degreaser? For cleaning out the well
Thank you. You are very good.
Can't you make another video
Ford escape 2011 V6 transmission gasket replacement........
Guessing same steps
What RTV did you use? What works in those two spots on the mating surface? And why put those there?
Hello What is the stuff you putting on both side of the edge? Som type of white glue?
perfect video
Good job thanks so much
what was the spray you used, brake clean?
What size socket is it for the main bolts on this?
Do you need sealant?
I don't know how to set the torque wrench
I did ALL of this yesterday. Had a misfire on number one. Plug well was filled with oil. Leak is gone but still getting misfires on cylinder one. All new plugs, coils, dielectric grease. Any suggestions????? Thank you!!!
You ever find out what the problem was? Was it already a major problem and this was a waste of money to do? Asking since mine is doing the same
@@kickfliphctp long story. Do you have a scan tool? My cylinder number 1 is very weak on the power stroke so it runs rough. I found this by looking at the "Power Contribution" graph on my scan tool. I have a picture of that graph but I don't know how to attach that to this conversation. What year, make and model are you working on??
@@dalebabbitt6185 2010 Ford escape 2.5.. I do have a scan tool.. shows cylinder 1 as well.. I haven't done this process yet but I need to do it.. I just hope mine is cleared up and if not I'm wondering if cylinder 1 is shot? Should I be looking into something newer soon
@@kickfliphctp does your scan tool show any misfire data for any of the 4 cylinders? Is there any way we can talk? It would make communication sooo much easier?
Hi I like these mechanical videos, but are you going to show some more diagnostic work?
Yes I am. I intend on showing both diagnostic procedures as well as repairs.
Triangle Diagnostics, fantastic.
yea your a beast at diagnosing man. scannerdanner style
good jop
What was the cleaner?
Everyone's favorite. Good ole Brake Clean.
What is the brand and model of your small impact driver. Looks easy to use... Tks
Rod McCormick, it's a craftsman nextec 1/4" Impact driver. Ive used it for 2 years now and is my go to for top end disassembly. Well worth the money and has handled all the abuse I could dish to it.
What sensor is that at 4:00
What are the torque specks for the valve cover after you replaced the gasket?
Did anyone ever find this out?
Valve cover torque is I believe 9ft lbs.
89 in pound. It’s written on his paper.
What's your take on anti seize on the plug threads?
I've used it in the past, but often find it to be unnecessary. My experience is that if a plug was tightened properly in the first place they generally come out without issue. An argument could be made for certain models that are inherently prone to problems regarding plug removal, as well as vehicle up North. Being down south, I have the luxury of not dealing with much rust, so I often just install the plugs similarly to how they were done at the factory. I think this is another one of those things that comes down to personal preference, and don't personally see a problem with using it if you wish. Maybe someone else has a differing opinion.
many of the plug bodies have a special coating and are meant to be installed "dry", it's always best check with the plug manufacture.
the cheapest plugs are likely not coated, while the direct OEM/ OEM equivalents are and ready to go.
NGK's quck notes and recommendations www.ngksparkplugs.com/about-ngk/spark-plug-101/5-things-you-should-know-about-spark-plugs
throttle bottle Very good info. Thanks. Both of ya. Also it just happens that NGK is what my car requires. I tried Bosch and they fell apart in the cylinders before I discovered that nobody uses them in a B18 Acura.
Why my escape 2009 on drive vibrate when it's stop?
Engine mounts are wearing out. Replace them
The shop I just came from wanted to charge me $400 just to replace those gaskets. Get outta here with that noise.
Ve
a bit more talking please explaining what you are doing
MegaGrahamo, thanks for the feedback. How does voice overs sound, or would you prefer talking while doing the repair?
i think talking as you do the repair like when you do the diagnostics which i really enjoy, it makes it a lot easier to understand
I'll keep that in mind. Thank you sir!
thank you for the videos
Even if you don't talk much, record with the lapel mic, as I think it does a better job of blocking out the rest of the shop.
