      50sKid, Once we hit the great Industrial depression Snap-on, Mac, Matco,Cornwell and many more will be going down the Drain. Over the next few years they had better come up with a "MASSIVE" game plan to keep their customers. Funny how every time I need something my SO man don't seem to be around. Matco guy is awesome to deal with can even go to his house but he don't stock anything out of the ordinary. I find myself using more of the "other" brands when it comes to Sockets it is on my way to just run in and exchange if need be.
      Over the Last 35 Years I have had and used many brands of tools English, German, US don't matter they are all good tools but in today's economy I opt not to load myself up with tool bills anymore. I will admit many moons ago I was one of them people that thought a good mechanic needs them name brand boxes and tools but then I grew up. Not knocking the Snap-On, Matco, Mac, Williams, Dowidat, Knipex, Kennedy ect. ect. tool boxes and or tools they are great. But the cost of owning them is ridiculous. It is no problem to to spend 150 grand on name brand tools when a (one) 32mm socket costs $48.00. Sorry, I'm rambling on now..... You get the Idea.

      I've looked in snap on catalogs before and some of the tools I see which are obviously china made and really no better than Harbor Freight are so ridiculously priced it makes me scratch my head. seems that all of those high end American made tools are being priced out of the market

      A cherry picker is the crane that mechanics use to lift engines or transmissions out of vehicles. When the valve cover was giving him a hard time, he jokingly said "get the cherry picker" to emphasize how much trouble the valve cover was giving him while coming off.

    I don't know if you have looked at yours, Eric, but a lot of those endoscope cameras have a little thumbwheel on the side of the USB plug which will turn the LED light brightness up and down. Often, turning the lights down can make the picture a lot clearer than running it at higher brightness, too.

      what do you think causes a valve to break like this ?

    • @fieldsofomagh
      @fieldsofomagh 7 лет назад +2

      This condition is usually caused by alternative very high temperature and low temperature. Cracks start to form and eventually the pieces fall off into the cylinder and misfires occur. With constant high temperature the valve metal will soften giving a concave effect. Heavy loading and a lean condition will result in a very hot engine.

    • @DavidD-qr2vn
      @DavidD-qr2vn 7 лет назад

      Probably started out as a little bitty crack. Once it made it through enough to leak, then you have (in effect) a cutting torch acting on it and the rest most likely burned away.

  • @iroulis
    @iroulis 3 года назад +7

    27:38 You already determined that the cylinder walls are fine with the leakdown test: Air was only going out the tailpipe. No air in the crankcase means cylinder walls/rings are fine. No air in the air box means intake valves are fine.
    If you're not sure, plug the tailpipe and check if ANY air is coming through to the crankcase, or use a 100 PSI smoke machine.
    She may need a new catalytic converter when that exhaust valve piece finds its way there.

      Detonation from low octane fuels can also cause weird damage. Exhaust valves overheat, and eventually burn or fracture. Finally, we can't rule out a manufacturing defect of the part itself. QC isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

      I have personally had a couple exhaust valves fail from detonation. Mine was caused by the tune having too much timing and it eve took out the headgaskets in the corresponding cylinders. Can't rule out predet as an option of failure.
