The valve cover gasket kit on this video is for Escape 3.0 v6 built after 01/19/2006. The engines built up to 01/18/2006 have different kit; the kit is FEL-PRO Valve Cover Gasket VS50579R. BTW, excellent video on how-to.
Thank you! Also, re-torque all the cam cap bolts while you are in there. They can come loose towards CYL 3 and 6, break, and eject the lash adjusters into the cover.
Excellent video. 2010 here and will be doing the front cover soon. Watched a bunch of video on this, but yours is the Best one out there. Thank you Sub'd & Bell rang.
@@HowtoAutomotive Desperation advice here!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not get at that bracket bolt to remove the front valve cover to save my life after trying for two hours. A DYI who needed to finish the valve gasket job that weekend, I finally just took out the Sawzall and cut the daxxxx thing. where it was blocking the removal. I assume it is there just for an engine removal should it be necessary? I'll cross that bridge......
Thank you for making this video, I just replaced our valve gasket on our 2007 escape. After buttoning everything up I got rough idle and p2195 and p2197 on the obd. I’ve checked the vacuum lines to be sure they are on securely. Im wondering if I have a vacuum leak or bad o2 sensors.
Brian, it looks like the tube that holds the dip stick would have been in the way when removing/installing the front valve cover. Was this the case and how did you deal with it? Thanks.
The fatal flaw on these engines are the camshaft retaining bolts. They can come loose after about 140,000 miles and cause misfires. That is your first clue. Buy New updated bolts from Ford and replace and torque to spec. FordTechMakaluco has a video on this.
I seen the same video, but I'm curious, if I have the valve covers off anyway, but the bolts are not loose, would you still replace with new ones from Ford? Thank you.
Thank you much for the great reference video. It sure has a lot of connections and parts/pieces. I hope I could remember all of the connections to be unhooked/hooked back. I had heard on another channel that the 3.0L V6 in the Escape can have a problem with the camshaft caps. In particular the bolts holding the caps on would become loose. Would it had been a good idea to get new bolts and torque those bolts if this is a model year with that type of problem? If the bolts get too loose a catastrophic fail will require a new engine. Very expensive.
very descriptive thanks i just did the tuneup this past weekend never done one before on this car but still only took me an hour and 40 minutes i should have done the valve cover gaskets when i had it apart due to the oil settled in the spark plug holes in the valve cover but no worries after watching this i think ill be fine lol thanks !!!
Dave S awesome glad the video help out. I do have a video on replacing the valve cover gasket's on that car. You will have to buy the valve covers itself the seals are built into it or non-serviceable. I have links in the video for all the parts. It's on my RUclips channel or my website it www.howtoautomotive.com
How to Automotive I really enjoy your videos is there a way I can get your email? I’m trying to change my walker hardware I could use some tips thanks it’s my first time trying to do this
Thanks for the video. I have a question, if i need to change the timing chain cover gasket do i have to remove the valve covers too ? If so, i guess i also have to change the valve covers gaskets?
While replacing I found a yellow bracket connected to the base of the engine and it has 2 push in connectors but I have no idea where it goes and don’t remember taking it out
If you are doing all of that, I would pull the cam shaft pulley (water pump drive) and replace the cam seal and "gasket RR housing" on that support plate. thanks to YT Joshua Lymer
Roughly how long does this job take for an experienced mechanic? I’m having issues with leaking oil and I’m assuming it’s a 3 hour job for a professional, so double that time for me?
I used the video to change the cover gaskets on my 2007. video contains all the necessary info except for 1 detail-the torque sequence drawing that is shown for the rear cover is wrong. The drawing only shows 10 bolts, the actual cover has 13. In the gasket kit, there are 26 bolt grommets...13 for each cover
Really dude? In my opinion, That is about as good as you could ask for short of him coming to your garage and doing the job for you! It’s literally POV that you’ll be seeing when you try it yourself, so I thought it was perfect!
Pull vehicle in shop, realize you have to take apart half of the top part of engine and accessories! Pull vehicle back out and list for sale! Wow! That's just ridiculous all that work for one rear valve cover gasket! FU Ford!

The absolute best explained video on this that I've seen. Very well explained! Thank you! John
Thank you!

Great help bro! It took me about about 10hrs with breaks in between and spending time with the kiddo, but got it done because of you!
Thank you so much! My husband fixed the oil leak in our car with this video

Fantastic! One of the best presentations I've seen. Well done!
Wow dude, that was great! Very descriptive and concise. I'll be changing mine very soon. Thanks a bunch.
Roy Newman thank you for watching. Good luck with the repair!

Excellent video! I have a question though, Do you have to reset the computer once this is done? Mine is a 2008 Ford Escape XLT

Your tutorial is outstanding!!!
Fantastic how-to guide, thanks very much for this!
Gearbox thank you for watching!
Great instructional video. I have a 2005 escape. Is there any difference from the 2007 escape?
don campbell hi I have done this on a 2006 now I own a 2008 and it looks the same should be same

Andrew Sal thank you and thank you for watching!
My Ford escape has been leaking oil for about five years lol I think it’s time I change the valve cover gasket
It’s self oil changing. Lol
I have a question when u put the silicone do you have to wait for it to dry a lil bit or u can put it all back together right away and start the car
Thanks so much for this video. Now I can change mine with this very in depth video.

Any tricks/tips to get access to the back bolts removed? And then properly torqued on re-installation?
Great video I have to do the head gaskets on my gf 2002 book time is 15hrs this gave me a glimpse why
Thanks for the video. I have a question, if i need to change the timing chain cover gasket do i have to remove the valve covers too ? If so, i guess i also have to change the valve covers gaskets?
Excellent video , thank you , have to work on daughters car
Thank you very professionally done but I didn’t see you tighten the bracket you loosened but I’m sure you did
Be Blessed
Great video - Helped me do mine last weekend on an 05. Thank You !
Glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
Excellent video.
What size was that engine lift bolt?? Ive been fighting it for awhile.
Did you include a link to the silicone? I must have over looked it. Thanks
Thank you so much! Super great and helpful video! Your the best!
Glad to help. Thank you for watching!
No comment he is good ,great video..
Is it possible to change the front valve cover gasket without removing the plenum?
Not my 2012 Ford Escape 3.0 Motor but still great information. Thank you

The last 3 years of the V6 had a different design
Roughly how long does this job take for an experienced mechanic? I’m having issues with leaking oil and I’m assuming it’s a 3 hour job for a professional, so double that time for me?
Jeff I’m not to great of a mechanic and it took me about 4 hours but did plugs and cleaned a lot
I ended up doing this job myself today, took me a little longer.... glad I didn’t cave and send it to the shop!! Thx Vince.
Had this done today. The parts were minimum cost compared to the labor cost
$ how much? I'm DIY'ing this. I know what I'm in for, either way. I'll take the pain of the work myself and a pal to help.
Is it necessary to replace the intake and manifold gaskets, are they reusable?
You are supposed to but I have pulled my intake off several times without replacing them and had no issues
Great explanation, Thanks

I just finished doing it but now my escape smokes as soon as I starts it up. What do you think I did wrong. Thnx
Ps. Smoking from the rear valve cover
@@dispeekah9950 Did you figure out your problem? Was it remaining oil left from when it was leaking or something else?
Thanks very helpfull but i need to change vvt gasket
Would this be more or less the same for a 2008 ford fusion 3.0?
Jason Goeders it's going to be very similar but there will be some differences.
Thank you for the quick response! I just had the intake off to change spark plugs but seems I need to replace the valve cover gasket now as well.
Jason Goeders sucks you have to go back in.
Jason Goeders same scenario here as well. Wish you had captured yours here.
Ive made the decision to let it keep leaking
is the exact motor for the 2005
Might be a great video if your tagged commission products didn’t block half the screen while using chrome cast
2012 Escape v6 3.0 Duratec is a bit different and I'd imagine 2008-2012 gen2 or at least 2010-2012 are not the same as 2007
2010 V6 is definitely different from video. Throttle body on mine is electronic not cable.
This is definitely not for a 2011 ford escape 3.0 my setup is completely different
Great video, but i would have spent the extra $10 and got intake mani gaskets as well....
he did lol
8:54 If you're only changing the front one.
Will this be similar to a 2007 expedition v8
Naice
Thank you!
You are supposed to go in a star formation not counter clock wise
Not the same as my 3.0 2012. Help
THROW IT IN THE SCRAP YARD
this doesn't work for my 2009 3l ford escape
I agree 3.0 lt 2009 has a sensor on the side i can't abe to remove it
You record too close to the engine, and it's difficult to know where the parts are located.
Really dude? In my opinion, That is about as good as you could ask for short of him coming to your garage and doing the job for you! It’s literally POV that you’ll be seeing when you try it yourself, so I thought it was perfect!
@BurnAftrReading I agree. I'm not even making a video on this job because his is so good
Pull vehicle in shop, realize you have to take apart half of the top part of engine and accessories! Pull vehicle back out and list for sale! Wow! That's just ridiculous all that work for one rear valve cover gasket! FU Ford!
I think this is typical for any transverse mounted V6 in a front-wheel drive configuration. It's a huge engine for that small space.
Should be titled 2001-2007 valve cover gasket. 08-12 is next generation. Good video though. I'm sure it's pretty similar
i have esape 2010 3.0 V6 and engine looks totally different
