    The man behind gunny juice actually has a RUclips channel. Talks about best methods to apply it, strop material recommendations, etc. His channel is called Gunny's Sharp Talk. He's coming out with a lubricant in a month or two, Gunny Glide.

    Hey Canadian cutter. I just wanted to let you know your videos are awesome and keep it up!! I am receiving my k03 sharpener tomorrow ! So I’ll be watching all your vids

      Thank you. I am sure you will enjoy using the K03 very much. If you don't have all the sharpening stones that you want, I would suggest that you consider VENVEV diamond stones, they are the best stones I have ever used. They are rated at 25%, 50% and 100% - that only means that 50% has half as many diamonds per square inch as the 100%. They also have oversize stones that are 1.5" X 8" long, great for faster sharpening.

      @@CanadianCuttingEdge I just finished sharpening my first three knives with the basic set of diamond stones I got with it. 200, 600, and 1000. I could only get the fillet knife to shave. The ESEE 3 and ESEE 6 won’t cut paper barely. I think I need to take your advise and get the Venvev stone set. Do you recommend 100% version? Thanks again

    I took one look at the price and made my own. I bought the diamond powder from Ali express in multiple grits from 1/4 micron up and mixed it with alcohol hand sanitizer jell. It dries very quickly, works very well and costs peanuts. Depending on grit the cost of the diamonds is $4-6.40/20grams and the hand sanitizer was free. Although the carrier is free I’m gonna look into suspending it in baby oil to see if that helps it cling onto the strop longer. All I need is a baby and an oil press😉

    I've always just used Beavercraft Green stropping compound on my leather strops for years, works just fine for me. However, in recent years I've gotten some knives in super steels like cpm20cv, zpd189, M4 and the like and I need something that's more aggressive. I really should give this Gunny Juice a try...

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  3 года назад

      I was always happy with my green compound too, but that was before I experienced diamond compounds, and now this Gunny emulsion even makes the diamond pastes that I had used seem a bit pale in comparison.

    Do you think gunny juice (or similar) is better for polishing a blade, worse, or equivalent to, using lapping films. Thanks for the videos!

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  Год назад

      In my experience Gunny Juice does indeed work better than anything else I've tried. I have tried other diamond compounds/pastes/liquids or lapping films, and they don't work as well for me. But, there is no way that I can have tried every possible variant of each of those types that is out there.
      Some people just cannot get the hang of freehand stropping and for them they can use gunny juice on wood or leather blanks on their sharpening rig just like they use sharpening stones except only pull - never push.

    Hi Jake,
    I recently viewed your video on gunny juice and noticed you are using leather stropping boards to apply each gunny juice grit liquid… I was wondering what your opinion would be if I apply the same application to leather stropping belts and use a belt driven sharpener like the WorkSharp Ken Onion sharpener to strop my knives?? I’m thinking I could get better results using a leather belt on a belt sharpener instead of hand stropping… What do you think? What’s the pros and cons of this stropping method vs hand stropping??

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  2 года назад +2

      I replied to this question when you sent it to me on Instagram.
      In short, the advantages and disadvantages with using a belt driven leather strop are pretty much the same for any compound or "emulsion" that you could use, there is not special challenges with Gunny Juice. The advantage is that it will get your good result more quickly than any other stuff I have ever added to leather for stropping.
      The main risk with belt driven is heat buildup at the very apex of the edge of the blade - that can ruin the steel up to a few mm depth, which is a waste of a lot of good steel that would have to be removed to get a new pristine edge on the blade. Go light, go easy.

    Im wondering are you using the smooth leather side or the rough suede side.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 месяцев назад +1

      I use the rough suede side for general stropping (all knives) and I then follow up and also use the smooth side for knives where I want an awesome mirror polish.

      6 micron is what I use the most. Any leather is fine but I use the flesh side the most

    You maybe very 'wordy' Jake, but isn't that what it's all about?
    Explaining everything clearly and concisely?
    It always strikes me that 'empty vessels make the most sound'.
    Those that don't listen.....?

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge

      That saying is so true. I certainly get weird but loud nonsense comments, demands, and just plain idiocy every once in a while here in the comment sections, but I don't let those bother me.
      But I always thought "concisely" means saying something clearly with as FEW words as possible. Maybe not.

    Thanks for doing this video. And providing a link in the reply on your stropping compound video.
    My issue with Gunny Juice is the name itself. It's a play on the slang for female ejaculate 'Cunny Juice'.
    I get disgusted with the creators American Ol Boys Club sexualized name for a product that's predominantly used by men.
    I'm a Sworn immunized civil rights investigator whose sealed whistleblower indictments got Cuomos DNC chair Buffalo Mayor Byron Browns City Hall and bogus HUD charity raided by the FBI, NY OIG, IRS and HUD. Cuomo & his brother are circling the toilet bowl.
    I'm probably going to find out how to make it, myself.
    Hacks are awesome for boycotting mysoginist companies.
    Not knocking your video or use of the product. I don't expect men to get it. Not that you're insensitive. You're not. But that name is just so gross. He didn't name it Bowel Movement for a reason... It would gross people out. He chose a name that appeals to his toxic masculinity. 🤮

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  2 года назад +1

      Sometimes we see things that aren't there. I never once for a second thought of the name as you do. I assumed that the creator was a "Gunny" (Gunnery Sargent) when he served in the American military. I am not saying you are wrong, just that I never even thought of it the way you see it.
      If I thought it was named for the reasons you believe it is I too would be against it, because I am also disgusted by mysoginistic sexuality in all it's forms.
