Always loved this song (and band). It’s obvious that in addition to being exceptional in the studio, they were rockers and hearing this adrenaline romp is a treat.
I was at this gig, brillent set and I didn't realise it would be the last time I'd see 10cc. I;d seen them 4 times in total from 1973 -76 I know how lucky I m to have been around!
Fantastic! Great Band and had some great Hits, they don't appear to be taking this appearance too seriously ha ha. Think Eric Stewart was very underrated as a Guitarist, every live clip ive seen he has been Spot on and a great singer too.
The stones were stupidly late and 10cc suffered through loads of technical problems. To be honest I only went to see 10 cc. I'm glad I did because it was the last time the original members played together. God was it really 1976?
That's Paul Burgess, who played drums/moog on most of the live performances from the very early days. He was the drummer with Eric & Graham's Mark II version and has recently been touring with 10cc: Graham Gouldman & Friends
A killer triple bill that day in Knebworth, England. Not only 10CC but also The Rolling Stones and Lynyrd Skynyrd. A rocking good time in England that day and night. I didn't get to see a show there until three years later on August 11th, 1979 and it was the mighty blimp, Led Zeppelin. Those were the days......
Annie I see your point and you deserve credibility as you are obviously a big fan. I too have always been a massive fan and remember hearing Donna for the first time when I was 15 ! I always went to their shows and even was in touch with Lol recently and bought one of his paintings. I was also a Beach Boys fan and the same thing has happened....they took on a life of their own and as a result can still be around in a hundred years time....doesn't that excite you ?
They are superb at creative arts and I saw their life with 10cc as part of their journey.Lol now does fantastic paintings and I have one and when they moved on from 10cc they created amazing video art so they are creators.I always felt I could relate to them as I myself had a song in the charts and also was involved in the music and TV business for 30 years.I now have a TV and video company so I appreciate their talents.I still believe it was time for them to move on as they have a natural con't
Annie, thanks so much for posting these fantastic reminders of my youth. There was so much original and exciting music to discover in the '70s, and these guys were right at the top of my list, alongside Roxy Music. RUclips is the time machine HG Wells had predicted, and it's fine people like you who are taking us on the ride!
Thanks Annie for putting this on...I was there that day ,right down the front.Lynard skynard were on in the afternoon ,and the Stones were on after this,a long time after if i remember.Great Days
Yeah, a little bit too fast, and I think because they are such a "studio Band" that they just "play" on stage........, but like you just said, I LOVE them and they are my favorite band !!!!
A natural ability to keep re inventing and discovering....that is also why I believe the name 10cc should be an umbrella for future talented creators. I realise you are looking at the band as Lol Eric Grahame and Kevin but I am seeing it as a continual and evolving life ...just like the guys themselves.
This day is still very vivid in the memory, although from what I used as food then, I should not be able to remember anything. I would REALLY love to see film of DEVO, they received a very hostile reception but at the end even the Angels that where next to us were impressed.
I was at the gig and can confirm the legend of the 'wanker'. I can also confirm that the infamous 'delay' resulted in 10cc getting a bum rap from the crowd. The gig ran so late that we had to head off before the Stones hit the stage in order to get back to London by train (where we headed to Smithfield Market for breakfast). The rest is pretty muddy, but 10cc remain a great memory of the 70's!
Steve Carney Recently on an extended plane flight, they have “On Demand” for the long flight and they had a rock pre-canned station and one of the promoters for this Knebworth show was introducing the Lynyrd Skynyrd song , Freebird and he was EXTREMELY critical of 10cc refusing to take the stage immediately after Skynyrd played because (in his opinion, I guess) 10cc would look terrible following what he described as an incredible Lynyrd Skynyrd performance.
There's lots of lies spread about this... 10CC delay was primarily because they had to get everything miked up etc as they were recording what they knew was probably their last live performance together at a major venue. All the activity on and around the stage ahead of their entry tends to back this up. I don't think they had anything to fear from any other hand tbh.
This is the first time I have seen this footage and can see how easy it is to be complacent and too relaxed...it then makes for a less than professional performance...Last week in Falkirk I saw Graham's 10cc and they are amazing. The singing and playing is far superior and I never thought I would say that as I have been a fan for 35 years ! I beieve 10cc are generic and nowadays they are red hot !!(I am now thankful the other guys left as they had gone past their "sell by" date.
Ah; see what between-band entertainment we had in the good old days when Knebworth only had one stage! By the way, it does sound something that FZ would have done.
The world would be a really boring place if everyone had the same opinion. But I believe your comment that "I am now thankful the other guys left as they had gone past their 'sell by' date" has been disproved by the success both G&C and S&G experienced in the late 70s, 80s and early 90s and and would refer you to Eric's 2003 solo CD "Do Not Bend" which showed his continual virtuosity in vocal and musical ability - and you say he's passed it!
Thanks for all the comments and as a final one from me when I used the term "past his sell by date" I simply meant as far as 10cc as a colective group were concerned (they were never going to achieve the heights of the 70's again) but of course as a solo artist fantastic things can happen...that is what I mean by evolving and Eric proved that point. So it WAS right to move on and he and the others proved that. I would never have been so daft to think he was finished as an artist.
To be honest, no it doesn't excite me. What does, however, is trawling though loads of web pages trying to find rare video footage of pre-1995 10cc and then locating sites/people in Japan, America, New Zealand, etc. who have previously unseen footage of the original band for sale or trade. That is the reason for this RUclips channel.
I was there at the age of 16 10cc were brilliant blew the stones and skynyd away I met all of 10cc backstage at bham odeon same year I became a vocalist with a band called Assassin and also restless dig band I have met many famous artists in my life I currently work for m&s in Birmingham harborne feel free to get in touch mouse🎤
The split was a good thing for them as individuals and both of you seem to have thought I meant Eric and co were now rubbish (it's the opposite)I sense that you both have strong feelings towards certain members and I prefer to see them as a whole band. The idea of continuing the name came from the Beach Boys as that is what they want and Brian Wilson would probably be dead by now if it hadn't been for the fantastic musicians he now has playing the amazing beach boys music..keeping it alive
Have to say that Kevin's memory of certain events during the 10cc era were not necessarily that accurate..... all I can suggest is perhaps that the onstage interruption occurred during INIL and the reason why the first verse has been omitted from the footage!
lol :o) (sorry couldn't resist the pun)! I suppose he was lucky in that he didn't break both wrists - that would have restricted his favourite past-time.
I think you are being very unfair on the original line-up; they had been delayed from going on stage for 2 hours due to the "politics game" played by the Rolling Stones. As such, there was hardly any time for sound checks as they had to get all their equipment set up.
It was only my opinion like anyone else has an opinion on here. It doesn't mean you are right or in fact I am right as everyone has a differing view point. I always thought the original line up was the best band I had ever seen and raved about them for years but I began to think that latterly Lol and Eric were losing interest and all I said was it showed in some of the songs (and other people on here have agreed with that)I saw Lol and Kevin as creators (of anything)and their life has shown that
I've watched the uploaded tracks from the Falkirk concert and am embarrassed that GG is still "earning a buck" from 30-year old songs. As he has a huge portfolio of his own, why doesn't he play some of them (they were included on the original set-list of this concert tour but have now been replaced by Feel the Benefit and Second Sitting for the Last Supper). There are sites like RUclips where we can enjoy the original and GG/ES 10cc material without the need for a second-rate tribute band.
(Keep in mind, I'm watching this as someone watches a train wreck) I'm surprised anybody even CARED about these blokes after Lynyrd Skynyrd pretty much slammed the door shut on Knebworth after their performance that year. 10cc either gets a gold star for bravery or stupidity for even DARING to follow "Freebird". At the very least, they were pissing their Beatle boots before they went on!
@@patricialambert3110 imagine thinking Lynyrd Skynyrd is good, and then thinking finely crafted art rock songs aren't. Sorry honey you just aren't capable of understanding it.
Time passes, 10 CC's music just seems to get better and better. They are, in my opinion, the best band ever.
Always loved this song (and band). It’s obvious that in addition to being exceptional in the studio, they were rockers and hearing this adrenaline romp is a treat.

No one really follows skynyrd
My husband was at this as he was a huge Stones fan; he's hated 10cc ever since! I, on the other hand, LOVE them 😊

Paul Burgess. Still touring as 10cc drummer!!!

was it the last concert with the origail band ?
They Should have these guys go on before Lynyrd Skynyrd so that Mick Jagger could have felt like his Rolling Stones were blown off the stage
