Bought before I tried. Big regrets. I agree, tastes like a 70-80 dollar bottle. And if that was what I paid I’d be pretty happy. But huge miss at 200. I think it’s better than ogd 100 and 114, but it’s just not a top end bourbon. Honestly I prefer knob creek 12.
The price is outrageous. OGD is mostly popular for offering extremely good bang for your buck. Charging this much for any OGD release doesn't make any sense
Always appreciate your honest reviews, me and my brother-in-law picked one of these up at an allocated draw and have not opened it yet, so maybe we look for a good trade. Go, Royals!!
Bought one while in Bardstown. One of those things you have to pull the trigger or you might miss out. Think it’s a cool bottle and think it won’t be released again. I’ll keep it in my collection as it does look pretty sweet too bad the whiskey is kind of a miss. Thanks Jason.
High proof Bourbons generally benefit more from oxygen and air time. This one is just missing proof at that price point. I’d rather add my own water to the whiskey rather than buy pre watered down whiskey at the distillery at an outrageous markup
It’s been pretty available in NJ for right around 190-200. I tried it and I think I came to the same conclusion as most people that it should’ve been 114 proof and closer to $150. It’s too light and too expensive.
I just got back from Tennessee & Kentucky...stopped by Beam which had 11yr Old Overholt...been sipping it this week, quite nice. I also could've purchased for $150 is their 18yr Knob Creek...have you tried this 18yr KC ?
Thanks for doing the review, Jason. I’ll pass on this bourbon for two reasons number one anytime there is a whiskey that old with the proof point below cast strength. I’m automatically cautious because when you try it, that will be the least oak forward. It is the longer it sits open the more the oak will take over as many times with Elijah Craig 18 year. The second reason is price and at this price point it has to be special.
Hard pass at 2 hundo, and based off yours and others reviews, this is a bust. Jim Beam usually prices their stuff pretty well, so I’m surprised by the orice point.
Right know Knob Creek 18, Bakers 13, Elijah Craig 18, Little Booke Infinite are all sub $200 in my area and easier to find than the OGD16. I’d rather go for one of those any day than take a gamble on OGD16. Old Overholt 11 was a big letdown at $99, Jim Beams released some hitters this year but all I hear is this one’s a miss. Winter Reserve was also huge budget hitter🥶. I’ll stick to OGD BIB and 114 sub $35
Yeah , a 16 year barrel proofer at $60-100 would've been more on the money. Maybe even $120. But the way they've turned OGD into an econo-lux brand, 2 bills is out in left field.
The price is out of hand. I wouldn’t turn down a sip, but wouldn’t open my wallet. The $25 114 NAS is a killer mixer. FYI Pennsylvania’s control stores were blowing out Old Overholt 114 over Covid for $15.
Sneaky pick that is better than both ogd bib and old tub bib is the Jim beam single barrel. 5 years old, non chill filtered, 108 proof, and only $17-$20 in my area. The bottles vary significantly in flavor and at that price point may as well grab 2 or 3. Best value in the beam lineup hands down.
@@josiahgaza4501 Hey, yeah... I've had the Beam SiB some time ago - the black label version. If I recall, I enjoyed it. I'd definitely buy it again. But I paid a bit more for it where I am, because it's hard to find it on shelves here in Los Angeles for some reason... So I ordered it from an online store. Old Tub.... one of the first bottles I ever bought and it became a favorite sub-$30 bottle. But is getting harder and harder to find lately.
They shouldve made it uncut/unfiltered to raise the proof and mouthfeel, and dropped the price $75 down to $125. Would've had people oozing over it. They really missed a huge opportunity, and with ogd bonded being my budget sipper/daily sipper, i was really let down. I wont even be buying the bottle after seeing the $200 price tag. I can get a jack 12 for that🤷♂️
The pricing of this is pretty confusing given Beam's history of pricing LE's. I mean it's more expensive than the Knob Creek 18, so are they just trying to capitalise on the Old Grand Dad Stans who normally wouldn't splurge for an LE or was this simply a pricing misstep? A pretty large store near me just got a deliver of 21 bottles, so I don't think it's priced this way for scarcity lol This is gonna be a pass for me. I'm not a big Jim Beam and at $200? They pretty much priced the FOMO out of me 🤣
Was excited for this release til I found out it was $200! How do you take your product pricing -low-shelf $20-$30 bourbons- to top dollar premium at $200? Their MSRP is higher than Pappy and Weller!! These will be dusty for a long time I’m afraid
I preferred the National Distillers OGD to Beam's OGD. To me, they're nothing alike. I really like Jim Beam. But I honestly wish their OGD was more like National Distillers.
I would have hoped you enjoyed this a little more. But, I guess it will be a disappointing day, maybe you could use this to drown out what’s coming tonight as Nola mows the Mets down? Cheers Jason, Go Phillies
Not to be a contrarian, but the 114 bottle is so awful that it puts me off that product despite the reasonable price. Too bad Beam couldn’t dream bigger.
From the reviews I've seen, the finish on this one is the same as Knob Creek 18yr. Tastes great up front, falls off the flavor cliff on the back. I'm sad, was looking forward to this one, not so much for $200 though. I'll pass.
It’s worth $19.95 . I would not recommend this year. Maybe in the future release will be worth retail . $25.99 for the bottle in bond one is much better . Skip it
First off, not spending $200 on any bourbon, if I did, it would have to be special. This doesn't sound special, the JD Single Barrel is special, only $54
I feel like everyone is disappointed with recent "special releases"..... whiskey world falling off!?! Are they just pumping out "junk" to us and slapping special labels on it!? The conspiracy continues
OGD 114 for $21. That's the best buy king!!
Where can you get it for $21??
Definitely agree. Love seeing it in my area for $21. Always keep it in stock
$25 and tax free in Delaware. Pennsylvania took it away. It makes a fabulous Old Fashioned and Manhattan.
29 in my area

Spec’s in Houston all day!
Not the first less than stellar review I’ve seen. I think I’ll go for two Old Overholt 11 year cask strength for the price of this one. Thanks!
I was really excited about this when I first saw the label. Was really hoping it would come out between $60 and $100.
Saw knob creek 12 for 50 bucks a few days ago can't see this being 4 times as good for 4 times the price.

Picked one up last week and cracked it open Friday night. I thought it was very good and enjoyed it. Glad I was able to get a bottle. 🥃
Not bad. Leaves me wanting more.
With all the reviews I've seen on this offering, I think that I'm going to keep drinking the OGD 114. Great show as always! Cheers!
The price is outrageous. OGD is mostly popular for offering extremely good bang for your buck. Charging this much for any OGD release doesn't make any sense
…but it does make dollars… 💵
Love the ND OGD. Have yet to open. The bottle looks awesome. Great seeing you and Mom a few weeks ago. Hope your event went well! Cheers dude!
Underproofed. A bit overpriced. I enjoy it but it definitely leaves you wondering where the finish is. Great breakdown - cheers 🥃
Yeah that can stay on The shelves
Expectations were so high for this it would have to be a monster to live up to. Appreciate the review
Bought a bottle at the distillery last week. Tried it at the restaurant first and liked it so I bought it. Thanks for the review!

My grandfather’s (Papaw) bourbon…I love this release. Can’t wait to try it.
Thanks for the breakdown. The bottle would look really cool on the shelf, but i think I'll wait and see if this drops in price.
Nice review! Give it some time for the bottle to open up with oxygen. I am hoping to find a bottle of OGD 16yr🎉

So glad I held off from snagging one on secondary
Dang. This was the only bottle I was looking forward to this year.
If you like aged Beam, it’s definitely worth a shot. I feel it should be priced similarly to other Beam products in the same age range though.

I mean if you want to blow over a $100 on Beam just get a Baker's 13yr or a KC 18yr right?! 😂
This is excellent bourbon, but $200 is excessive
@TheMashandDrum would you say this is better than KC18? Both 100 proof
Ill have to do that comparison. I feel like I may like this a bit better. Not sure though

Got it for 157 socal Costco, it seems everything is expensive,,, what are we to do…
OGD114 is one of my least favorite pours, but I would definitely like to give this one a try! Not at $200 tho
My favorite mixer. It shines through cocktails better than anything else. I don't drink it neat very often.
First pour wasn't great. Just orange and oak with a flash of oak spice finish. I'm hoping it will open up with some time.

If you say; "it's a try before you buy."...@ $200, it's a skip for me. It doesn't sound like it's 10× better than OGD Bonded.

I am disappointed that Jim Beam has jumped on the “let’s just jump on secondary pricing” bandwagon that Campari started with the Russell’s releases.
Dang, long drum roll Love OGD, probably because of the high rye. This one is out of my price range though. Big age often makes for over oaked.

I've never had OGD at any other proof than 114. $200 is too much for 100 proof, hard pass.
It says a lot that they marketed this as OGD 16 Year instead of calling it 16 Year Old Basil Hayden. 😺
That makes a lot of sense!
