What a shame. I was really looking forward to this release. I was able to find a Hardin’s Creek Trio for $169 instead. Now that was a great idea. Some people on RUclips need to get a grip and not take opinions on releases personally. Some reviewers are talking down to OGD16 naysayers. I won’t name names, but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Thanks for the great review and comparisons BB! And for never talking down to your audience.
Yeah I was hyped for the OGD16 myself too I’m bummed it’s priced where it is. I would have been totally saying it was a buy worthy if they would have priced it right in the 100ish range. Above 130 bucks it doesn’t sit right in their lineup of higher aged stuff. That being said if someone never had the other higher aged stuff from beam and they saw this they are still getting a glimpse of good higher aged beam it’s just priced slightly to high
Was firing on all cylinders today! Found Forteleza blanco, knob 12, knob 18, Bowman SiB, yellowstone 2024 LE, Elijah Craig toasted rye and Weller 12. Now for some lunch and bourbon bill!
@@bourbonbill haha... it's the only yellowstone I get. Nostalgic I guess, since I've been getting their yearly LE for a while now. Might have to take it camping if the taste isn't up to snuff, add some experience & friends with it and it's "taste" will vastly improve!
Yeah the 211 is magic in a bottle from beam. The sadder part here is that the 211 likely contained in part the same stuff as OGD16 just older and slightly proofier
I was just in Kentucky and visited beam twice. They had ogd16, kc18 batch 3, LB infinite, LB 8, bakers 13, and overholt 11. Tasted nearly everything they had. I grabbed a 2024 bakers 13 and overholt 11. Then while drinking at the Airbnb I ordered the 211 month to ship to my door for just a hair above the cost of the infinite/ogd16. It was hands down the best thing I tried from beam.
@@bourbonbill yeah it was head and shoulders above everything. Couldn’t stop thinking about it like an old girlfriend so pulled the trigger and it already arrived
Nice! Would be interesting to see if KC 12yr or any KC SiBs are on par with this or even if the OGD 114 is half as good. Some reviews say to mix in OGD 114 w the 16yr to give it what it's missing.
I think the OGD 16 drinks old so I think you have to stay in the higher aged stuff from KC like the KC15-18 to get the real similar flavor. I’m not a massive OGD114 fan it’s decent but was never a favorite of mine. I heard about the mixing but I don’t think we should have to mix 200 dollar bottles to make them good they should do that for us haha
@@bourbonbill Oh for sure. It was just a recommendation for people who happen to buy the bottle blind & were disappointed. But yes, 100% agree, that if you can add a $25-30/4-5yr whiskey to improve a $200/16yr whiskey.. Watdafuxupwitdat!
Where are people still finding JW 211? Stores asking 350-400 for the last remaining bottles near me! A definite no-way!! Keeping an eye out for KC18 now!
Well I mean these things have been out almost a year now so I imagine word has gotten around on them. I’d say keep looking I see them pop up on secondary for 220to 250 every now and then
There's a guy by me who they call Easy Andy and, a few months back, he had a 211 for 200. He meets behind the local high school after hours. Just don't ask him his real name; he don't like that.
A friend snagged one for me. I don't have it yet, but already regretting it! Thanks for the review. Slightly unrelated, have you ever had the early 80's pre-Beam ODG114 from ND?
I mean it’s not the worst value like wild turkey masters keeps are and it’s still 100 less than that trash so you could look at it that way haha. Also no never tasted an older one but I hear they are amazing
@@bourbonbill, Chad and Sara Night have said that the *best whiskey they've ever tasted* was an '83 OGD114. They said '70s and '80s Turkey was close behind.
I have not unfortunately. I’ve long been a hater on little book but last year chapter 7 was surprisingly good. I haven’t gotten a sample or seen a bottle of this years releases. That being said I have serious doubts it will surpass Jacob’s well 211 month in terms of flavor and it’s more expensive than that bottle which is all 17.5yr
Wish I could but I haven’t tried it. Need a sample from someone. Most reviews I’ve seen say it’s not up to snuff. On paper it don’t seem bad but a lot report not enough fruit flavor surprisingly. With those mixed reviews to me it’s too much of a gamble for the price
If you want a well finished bourbon pickup a Chattanooga white port or Pinot noir not as old obviously but excellent and only like 60 bucks. If you want the best finished stuff around go to sagamore and find a finished bottle from them
I just started my bourbon/whiskey journey. Great channel. Thanks for the insight.
Thanks for tuning in welcome to the journey!
Good to know 211 is better. You cannot even find the OGD16 on the secondary online!
Yeah stick with the 211 or if you can’t find that then KC18 will get you same flavors

I'll say enjoy camping with it KC9 for 30 bucks is better
Great review. I’ve been hearing that the Old Grandad wasn’t up to the price and you confirmed it. I love that 211 though

I loved the JW2. I recall getting a grape soda type note with the oak..
Yep I could see that i get a jammy note with the oak but I can think grape soda and get that too
hey fun review, cheers
Thanks

@@bourbonbill it was pretty minty/pine forward but it was still pretty good. For the price I preferred the overholt
Who did you order from?
BTW, E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof Rye is out. $80 MSRP and at least a $1000 to $1300 on the secondary online😳
I would bet some money that the EHT BP Rye isn’t as good as Sagamore 9 year

I like you. Step up the production value. It'll be worth it.
Thanks. Once I get my basement renovated the set could see an upgrade
Set price aside for one moment , how do you like it now ?
It’s very good in terms of flavor. Like the video said it’s very similar to KC18 which I enjoy the only problem here is price
Some people have no problem paying big money for BT products or Russell's 15 🤔 hmmm.😉
Haha you know that saying a fool and their money are soon parted

Yeah even if you love OGD and it’s good don’t get me wrong it’s not the same league as Jacob’s Well batch 2 for less money
By far my least favorite limited Beam release of the year. We have to get you a Bookers Reserves
Haha why because it’s worse or because it’s better haha
By far your least favorite? What about Hardin's Creek: Colonel James B. Beam at two years?
@@bourbonbill Bookers Reserves is great, the normal boomers heat is dialed back and it’s a punch of flavors with a long finish
To be fair that was released like 2 years ago though although yes its a sham of a release

Overpriced premium bottle … again
Yeah unfortunately it is overpriced but at least this one is quite tasty
Overpriced, overhyped and weak. It should be 114. Sad for beam to put us over a barrel like Turkey does to us. Hard pass 😢
Haha I know I felt like this was a wild turkey product beam doesn’t usually do us like that
