I’ve had the EHT straight rye and Jb SBBP Rye and that JD bottle I had was really grassy and offPutting. (And I’m loving what JD is doing lately so I’m not bias) The EHT was much more well rounded.
Great descriptions of each! Definitely understand the difference you’re referring to in fruit driven / natural tasting sweetness vs confectioner’s sugar / artificial dessert like sweetness. Nice comparison for these two lines.
Yeah, I'm all over it! Hype city, and FOMO net. I know that I'm supposed to be clamoring these offerings but, I'm sorry, I just can't, and won't do it! I hope that anyone who does find it enjoys it but, I ain't wasting my time! Great show as always! Cheers!
Just picked up a bottle tonight, haven't cracked it. Have a new Stagg already opened...Mine was got at MSRP $70.00, to know that it might be a $1k bottle on the secondary makes me want to hide it in the cellar and stick with the JDSBPF Rye picks.
Great video as always. Love your tasting notes! I’m a true rye guy but it’s just too bad this bottle will be all bought up from people that don’t even appreciate rye.
I'll never pay secondary price for any whiskey. If I get lucky by the liquor gods and find in my local abc store I'll definitely grab it up but as far as paying 4,5,6 hundred plus for a bottle hell no I ain't doing it lol.
Any idea why EH Taylor Straight Rye has two DSP numbers on the bottle? I’ve heard it’s not actually distilled by Buffalo Trace. Some say it’s actually Barton juice.
@@motohead077 This one's also barrel proof, so BiB doesn't apply. But for the regular straight rye, as long as it's distilled at one distillery in one distilling season and aged in a bonded warehouse, I don't think the physical location of the aging and bottling matter.
Well well well look at who's gone tater. You laughed in my face when I said this was my most looked forward to bottle of 2022 at TIMBP Live. Colonel Taylor Underpants edition I believe you said!! Of course it took 2 years for them to actually release it. 😂😂 Cheers Jason
I’d hope this would turn into an annual release and slot in a bit cheaper on secondary than the EHTBP bourbon at around $300-350. But I guess not. $1200 is eye watering.
J. Is this not the same mash as eht straight rye? If it’s not this is really weird as it wouldn’t follow the offering like the bourbon eht small, sib and BP.
Dang I wish I could get one might have to be a skip for me. Here in PNW I rarely see those bottles and if you do the price is ridiculous and we have to pay 25% extra tax.
Jason - Just out of curiosity, what made you stop tasting videos of Scotch and other world whiskies? Just the viewership on those videos, or you’ve just grown toward American whisky more?
I heard this bottle was only a myth. That said The standard EH Rye is massively overhyped and I would rather have a Sagamore pick or even a bottle of Pikesville over the regular EH Rye. Not that I will find it on the shelves, but maybe I can grab a pour at a bar somewhere.
I have to give credit to Buffalo trace on keeping their pricing reasonable compared to other distillers. Its too bad people buy it just to flip. Wish they would just do a lottery
@@LeatherDaddy97 yep just saying buffalo trace could charge way more retail if they wanted to and still sell everything. WT has a knack for charging outlandish retail prices o many of their special releases
As stated I’ll never see this and I’m okay with that. I don’t hunt anything from BT. Would I like to get a Stagg yes but I’m not going to pay some ridiculous price for it and same with this bottle if someone is willing to buy one of these for 1000+ they need their head examined that’s just stupid.
So many years later I still don’t understand the hype around most BT products. Hard not to imagine a time when all that increased production floods the market and nobody cares about flexing for the gram.
I really am not a fan of product labeling if it doesn't mean anything. Was this stuff really distilled at Barton??? That's kinda B.S. to me. There should be some expectation that if a person is buying EH Taylor, they're getting Buffalo Trace distillate. That's like buying a Ford just to find out the only thing Ford are the decals and all the guts are GM. Not saying the GM guts are bad, but it's bait and switch, if you ask me.
Just got one for $99.99 today!!
Any comments about how it compares to JDSBBP Rye?
Kinda hard to compare a batch product vs single barrels that all vary quite a bit
Watch the replay of his live from Oct. 16 😉
@@whisk-e-y_problems9075 I did - I thought the JD would probably be better.

Agree with you 100% as usual! Thanks as always for an excellent and honest review!
Thank you for the review. The regular E H Taylor Rye is a favorite of mine…. This one should also prove worthy!
Great review… agreed on the Handy 👍🏾
Great descriptions of each! Definitely understand the difference you’re referring to in fruit driven / natural tasting sweetness vs confectioner’s sugar / artificial dessert like sweetness. Nice comparison for these two lines.
Thanks for the details and review!
Great perspective dog! I 3 always avoided the Handy, but will give it a shot
My buddy gave me a sample of The EHT Straight Rye. “I’m not gonna oversell it… but it changes you.” 🤤🤤🥺🤯
Sings… “never gonna get it, never gonna geddit….” 😂
I found a bottle. Have connections at the liquor store. 😄
You can always get it if you're willing to pay those ridiculous prices
I could have bought this for the low low price of............. wait for it............. $1,199 😂 smFh 😂😂😂
Oh snap!!! Another Pokemon to chase!!!
That the BT way!!😂
Just get the A Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey Monongagela Mash if you want that mashbill. Not cask strength but $40 all day long.
Is it confirmed that EHT rye uses the 80/20 rye/malt mashbill? I know that's the one Overholt uses for Monongahela Mash Rye.
Jason, really grateful review. Appreciate you
I can't believe this bottle is more than 320 on the secondary That's crazy people are insane
Never even knew this was a thing. Thanks for the review.
This is certainly the first I’ve heard of it, but I suppose that doesn’t matter because I’ll never see it.
Toasted barrel pappy finish… I’m dead 😂 😂

Your description of the Handy sounds fantastic. Can you recommend a rye that is actually available on the shelf that would be similar?

Great! Another bottle that I will never see and if I did I would not pay the jacked up price! 🤣
Sound delicious. Can't wait to find one at MSRP. I don't have to have Batch 1.
Side note. What's up with eht warehouse c? Saw one for 3k in Washington state this spring.
My least favorite eht. Not worth it

@johnferron3709 I'd rather spend that kind of money on 556 and 9mm ammo lol 😆 😂 🤣
I'm the same. Don't get why anyone pays secondary.
Secondary is for suckers.
most i pay 77.99 $USD
Nah. Your chance of getting hit by lightning is much much higher

I’m betting sagamore 9yr smokes this
Good review! Lots of decent eyes out there.
Damn. So expensive. I'd pay $150 for a 1.5 oz pour. Going to Louisville on Thursday. Will look for it.
Nice review! I’ll stick with the Sagamore’s, TH Handy, Little Book Chapter 8, etc.
Handy blows the eh Taylor BP rye out of the water. Got a major grassy funky oak and butterscotch note that just overwhelmed the whole thing
Sounds pretty good. If i see it under 90 ill probably bite
Any idea why EH Taylor Straight Rye has two DSP numbers on the bottle? I’ve heard it’s not actually distilled by Buffalo Trace. Some say it’s actually Barton juice.
Barton has a 95/5, don't they?
I noticed that too. The first release was just one dsp. The BP Rye has one dsp. Weird.
Yes its distilled by Barton I believe.
To be Bottled in Bond, doesn't it have to be distilled, aged & bottled by the same distillery in the same state?

Nice one!
What happened to the Mets in Game 1!!!! Come on boys!
Handy and saz 18 are both insanely candy sweet. I am glad to see the EHT is not that sweet
I’m sure that will be filling shelves for MSRP. Can’t wait to get multiple bottles for cheap. 👍
