Ha, this was my first thought. The secondary bourbon market (both buyers and sellers) has completely destroyed the availability of so many bourbons to casual drinkers.
@@daver7178 Yep, another decent hobby ruined by obsessive collectors and opportunistic investors. As far as I am concerned, there are far too many great whiskies available on the shelf to be chasing down unicorns and/or products that have simply become overpriced and overhyped. .
@@StillLivinginthewoods agreed, I've gone all in with Old Forester products and love that Rare Breed is everywhere and cheap. Also dabbled in some Isle scotch as well, fantastic, readily available and zero effort to chase down and no dealing with the bullshit.
Jason, thanks for the informative review; as always. Haven’t seen the Taylor rye in the wild yet. Have Baby Saz and the OF Rye. Agree with your perspective on both. Have been wanting to try the Pikesville rye next. Looks to be a good choice.
Thx for putting out this review! I’m glad I was able to find this EHT but for the price I paid ($80) I would probably pass on it a 2nd time. I tend to enjoy barely legal ryes like wilderness trail, Pikesville and WT101 more. Keep up with the great content man!!
I finally found me a bottle of Sazerac Rye after some hunting around Minnesota stores. Still looking for the E.H Taylor but im starting to find some little stores that are carrying some great bottles
I'm a big fan of anything from Buffalo Trace and especially E.H. Taylor. I wish it was morw available but it is sort of fun chasing it down and meeting new people along the way.....💯😎
This is one of my favorite whiskies. I get a strong spearmint note, which I love. I can never find this. Can you please recommend an alternative rye with strong mint notes? I’ve tried pikesville and a few others, but it doesn’t measure up.
Love bourbon and rye. Realized just now that I’m not subscribed to your channel. Been watching for a long time. Error corrected! Keep up the great job!!👍
As hard to find as EHT single barrel here in IL. Haven't seen any in a few years and I hunt pretty hard. I have a few bunkered from 2014-2016 which I'm enjoying slowly since I don't think I'll be able to replace them anytime soon.
Yes the price point I feel is too much, I just think you are better off with alot of other Rye's I just recently bought Pikesville on sale for 45 bucks. One thing I always tell people is Bourbon with Rye ages faster then bourbon with wheat and Straight rye's age faster then bourbon. You don't need a 16 year old Rye for it to be good. Saz is really nice if you like that light Rye, I always get vanilla birthday cake on baby Saz. Great review Jason.
I had it last night I I bought the bottle about three months ago. It was pretty good Although in saying that like you said I can find other rye so much cheaper that are actually better. Also paying at that price I would much rather have Peerless Rye which is about $10 to $15 dollars more and taste 100 times better
If I could ever find it I would jump on a bottle. Any variety of EHT is extremely rare here in south Jersey. Meanwhile I can always find Rittenhouse and Sazerac so they are my go to. Thanks Jason, I enjoy your reviews even if I may never see the product.
LOL, in my liquor cabinet. I was super lucky and bumped into it at my go to unicorn store. You will not find it anywhere near retail, more than likely at least double.
Great review Jason. I’ve yet to find a recent release of EHT rye. I got a new bottle of baby saz a couple weeks ago. Bout ready to crack it soon. In the meantime I’ll keep searching for the newest taylor rye release. ✌🏻
If you are sensitive to black licorice, I like that note by the way, lots of barely legal ryes have that note to me, pallets may vary, most notably Pikesville. I find that knob creek and old forester has that note too. Maybe you secretly like black licorice. 😃. Great video and totally agree. Taylor rye is very good if found. Buffalo Trace is starting to frustrate me too.
When I first opened a bottle of this, I was getting a lot more sweet cinnamon candy...almost like Big Red gum. I just had a dram now at a half bottle full and it's lost that sweetness and tastes a lot more spice and less sweet. Is it just mental? Did the bottle contents really change in profile over a few months of not drinking it?
Know this was an older review but EHT rye is much better than rare breed rye. Blinded against KO3 and Michter's BP Rye and this one won. Michter's Toasted Rye is a beast but EHT Rye for sure can hold its own!
Jason, I recently saw a white label EHT bottle at a liquor store near me. Any idea what it is? I couldn’t find anything online. Maybe it’s an older bottle and a different label was used?
The Mash and Drum I believe it was small batch. The shop was super busy and I was in a rush and couldn’t stick around. I will swing by again and see what I can find out.
I much prefer the Willet 4 year Rye for similar pricing and Pikesville if I didn’t feel like spending the extra money for EHT Rye. I have one bottle of EHT Rye to go with the rest of my EHT collection but don’t touch it that often, there are better ryes out there. It has gotten better as it has opened up lower in the bottle.
I’d give it a good rating and a fair price for what it is - I’m definitely not wowed by it and for the $85 it’s not that special other than it goes with the other bottles in the series of EHT and looks good on the shelf. If it was a Buffalo Trace product with a different name we’d be a lot more critical of it for the price point and what it is. Every time I see a Willet bottle I grab one, I wouldn’t do that with an EHT Rye.
Shit bruv, $75 msrp for a higher proof rye sounds roadkill when I can get a 6 year age stated Pikesville for $50 with a 5% abv spike, or recently now the Rare Breed Rye.
Offinthepines Willet Estate 4 Year is one of my favourites, definitely a very good Rye, very berry sweet to me, almost like it was finished in a wine cask.
No one talks about it because no one can find it.
This is why I don't really mess with Buffalo Trace products anymore.

@@daver7178 not this seller. NY here. Jason gets many products for true MSRP from me.
Nice review! I can get the Sazarac rye for 22.00 no limit at Sam’s. EH Taylor is usually 400.00-800.00
I still enjoy any Sagamore anytime!
The "Big League Chew" note is interesting. An older bottling I had smelled just like cotton candy to me.
Trading for the Taylor rye this week. Can't wait to try it
This is an excellent review. Thank you for providing a fair and honest assessment of this Rye! Great job!

Paid $120 for the EHT rye today, but that's actually a good price in California.

Great comparison Jason. The Saz in I get pretty handy over here in the UK, but the EH Taylor is pretty tough to source. Cheers buddy.

I snagged one today for $90
Why? Because it’s too damn difficult to find regularly.
True
I don't know why this isn't in green print and the barrel proof in this one.
I was like number.... four hundred and twenty......one
How do you compare the Russell's Reserve 6Y Rye with this? I know it is lower ABV but, anything else?
Not a fan of the Russell's 6 year. Way more citrus than this. I'd go Russell's single barrel rye or rare breed rye.
