    The SR22T is the top model. As of 2019 it goes for $985k loaded. The accident rates were due to the high performance, low drag, complex aircraft and the lack of training for new pilot and renters. Now Cirrus requires basic training with a trained factory CSIP before a new pilot can fly the plane. Also, in the beginning pilots were reticent to pull the chute given the history of always 'landing the plane' in case of emergency. The factory now trains pilots on a simulator and trains when and how to use the system.

    2006 was the SR22 *TN* rather than the SR22T (which came in 2010). The difference? The 2006-2009 SR22 TN had a turbo normalised set up, which means the turbo was not active until at high altitudes, where it worked to maintain manifold pressure at sea level. The SR22 and SR22 TN had the same *max power output* . The 2010+ SR22T has a full range set up, where the turbo is taken advantage of throughout the power and altitude range. The SR22T has a modest increase in max power over the normally-aspirated SR22.

    The accident rate was high because people were reluctant to pull the caps handle. Better training which promoted use of the caps over a bad ditching/landing is what lowered the rate

      Part of the reason was the chute which is new to most people before they fly a Cirrus. But these high performance aircraft were being rented to pilots not able to fly them...so Cirrus requires rental companies to offer transition training before renting one out...the factory will train rental company pilots gratis. Also training was made a focus and now Cirrus has the best training in the world.

    The Cirrus accident rates were reduced via training. The aircraft is HIGH PERFORMANCE and COMPLEX. Few pilots are able to just jump in one and fly it without 10 to 20 hours of transition training. Three models are made SR20, SR22 and SR22T Turbo.

    • @Vejitasei
      @Vejitasei 3 года назад +2

      HP yes, but NOT complex. It has neither retractable gear nor a controllable pitch speed prop. It does have flaps :) But so does (nearly) every other plane made in the last 50+ years.

      @gbigsangle3044 3 года назад

      @@Vejitasei What are you talking about? The prop is constant speed and VERY large. The gear is fixed but costs no drag penalty and makes the plane safer and costs less to insure thanks to that. Cirrus was first to use the BRS chute, all carbon fiber and a NASA split wing to allow use of ailerons during any stall. They are equipped with Garmin glass and Garmin A/P and Garmin 3D sound so you can listen and monitor two radios at the same time. They also have ADS-B in/out, TCAS and TIS collision avoidance. And in cock-pit weather via Nexrad. Among the options are FIKI (flying into known ice) a titanium leading wing edge, a Sat phone, and fully IFR capable. The turbo version cruises at 200ktas with a range over 1100nm. Pattern speeds are 90ktas, over the numbers 80ktas.

      @@Vejitasei Complex due to speed, agility, glass panel, feature set most pilots do not deal with in antiquated older aircraft like Cessnas and Pipers. As a SR22 pilot/owner, I agree with you about flying the Cirrus cold not being a good idea. But, FAA part 61.1b (Applicability and Definitions) states "Complex airplane means an airplane that has a retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable pitch propeller, including airplanes equipped with an engine control systems consisting of a digital computer and associated accessories for controlling the engine and propeller..." Bottom line, the SR22 is not categorized as a "Complex" airplane as it has fixed landing gear not retractable.

    • @speedomars

      @@jscott0071 I know the regs. I did not refer to them. I used the word "complex", which is an adjective: 1.
      consisting of many different and connected parts. Synonyms: complicated, elaborate, multifarious, technical.
      I bought new a 2016 G5 SR22T. My plane before the CIrrus was a Flight Design CTLSi (heavy stick/rudder skills needed). Despite having 500 hours in the logbook and having flown Cessnas, Pipers and a Mooney, insurance required me to fly 25 hours with a CSIP. It still took me two years of flying the plane to learn all of the intricacies and ways to get into and out of trouble. Imagine some guy renting an SR22 or SR22T coming from steam gauges or worse? Coming from a Cessna 172 or 182? That's why the accident stats were a problem for Cirrus before Cirrus corrected it by REQUIRING at least an hour of transition training with an experience Cirrus driver before even renting the plane.

      @speedomars 2 года назад

      The impossible turn and base to final are fatal situations for all aircraft, not just the Cirrus. Cirrus advises to still pull the chute regardless of being below optimal altitude. You are wrong about spin testing - repeating the nasty myth. The SR series passed spin testing in Europe (EASA). The FAA did not require it due to the presence of the chute. If you want to forgo using the chute and recover from a spin you are welcome to do that the same as with any other aircraft.

      The DA50 RG would compete with the SR22, not the SR22T. It has a ceiling of only FL20...and a max cruise of 180ktas. It lacks a BRS chute and so will suffer the same fate as the Cessna TTx? Worse. It may come with retractable gear which is a deal killer. The extra insurance cost and the barrier to get insurance of 100 hours with a CFI in retractable gear plane will keep most of the market away. This is the same problem Pipistrel will face with the Panthera.

      It’s more than that. Back in March right as the world stopped spinning, I got a quote from cirrus sales for a fully spec 2020 SR-22T GTS and by the time all the options were added it was a little over a million... $1,010,000. With $200k down and financing $800k, the monthly payments are pennies a month under $4800. Based on 250 hrs flight time per year the total including mortgage, insurance, fixed & variable costs total $110,000 a year. It’s a beautiful plane but I’ll need to weigh it against older examples of bigger singles, twins, turboprops of each and of course Eclipse 500 jets can be gad used for that kind of money, too, competing directly with the Cirrus Vision Jet SF50, but the Vision now sells for $3 million. It’s tough to swallow that pill when the Eclipse and Cessna Citations can be had in that range... the Eclipse is actually cheaper to fly per mile/hour because it gets there quicker than the Vision... there is a video up here that makes that case.

      Sean F I didn't get the idea that there was much negotiating I do know that they talked about giving me a free year subscription to all the charts and maps and stuff and I believe they were going extend the extended warranty further and they want to use my plane for the first few months as a customer demonstration plane and they were going to pay me a couple hundred dollars an Hobbs hour to do that, plus they were going to warehouse, fuel and maintain the plane for the time they had it and that was part of the process to legally avoid paying $100,000 in sales tax to my state by using it and immediately putting it to work primarily outside the state for some number of months before I brought into my state permanently. As you can imagine the incentive to legally avoid sales tax on million or tens of million dollar items is worth it... in the meantime I was going to lease or rent by the hour something local to me as a stop-gap. This is all new to me and I’m actually involved in spec’ing and purchasing two aircraft at the same time, I’m also looking for a bush plane I can put big Alaskan tundra tires on for backcountry flying and also put floats on as well. I’ve definitely got my brain and hands full crash-coursing on aircraft ownership details. For jets it’s again much more complex, with yearly recertifications, and turbines in subscription programs, etc. the annuals or periodic inspections aren’t a thousand or few dollars like on a piston aircraft, they could be a hundred thousand or few dollars.

As far as discounts, if they are pushing all those "freebees", it sounds like there are no discounts. I guess if you want a fully loaded SR22 GTS with everything its going to be 1M, take it or leave it. The irony is, a lot of people complain about the Mooney prices, but they are not this high from my research and you can get a discount. If the economy really tanks, they may change their tune, but as of now I guess they are selling all they produce.
