- The Real Price of Owning a Cirrus Vision SF50
Cirrus started to develop what would later become the Vision SF50 in 2003, which later in 2006 was announced and teased to the public under the project name "The-Jet". The Vision started its first test flights in 2008, and stuttered slightly due to financial issues related to the financial crisis, but ultimately concluded in the beginning of 2014. In April 2015, Cirrus started production on the first of the 550 jets that were already ordered, and which completed its maiden flight on May 5th 2016

I have $22 in my account and I’m here like “it’s reasonably good. Maybe I will buy it”
Fella, you don't have a crew salary on a jet like this. 9 out of 10 are owner operated.
For the most part, not until the owner has spent anywhere from 20-100 or more hours flying with an instructor in the right seat. This is an insurance mandate, and will of course vary depending upon the experience of the owner as a pilot. A retired 747 Captain would probably be able to skip most or all of this tutelage.
@@anthonyvallillo422 Not only that, but they need about $100k+ worth of the flight time to meet the basic qualifications to even begin flying it. Even if I was a multi-millionaire with cash to burn I don't think I'd want to put the time and effort in just to do boring straight and level flight in a jet you can't even sightsee in. Just let a pilot fly you around and sip your champagne in the back or take a nap.
@@nunyabusiness896 I don't think that in the grand scheme of owning a plane like this, with a reasonably estimated annual cost of about 500k in taxes, maintenance etc. Spending 250k on training is going to be the issue. Sure it raises the buy-in cost from 2 to 3 million, but for the target consumer that doesn't strike me as a problem.
It's also not likely to be someone's first plane to buy, so they probably have a couple hundred hours in a C172 or Bonanza.
If you just want a pilot to fly you while you sip champagne in the back, just fly private charter and dispense with the whole ownership part of the plane.
If you're going to buy a plane like this, you're probably going to want to fly it yourself and it's probably less about sightseeing and more about range and speed at that point. I mean it cruises at 300KTS at 23k ft. You're not gonna be sight seeing from that altitude anyway. Besides for the target market of this kind of plane it's in no small part about status. The fact that this thing can be used to take off in the Hamptons on a friday afternoon, refuel and dinner in the Florida Keys and get to your private beach cabana in the Carib that evening, is probably a big selling point.
@@fermitupoupon1754 The first lesson is to understand you can't buy status. The Vanderbilts went broke trying to do that exact thing. Rule 1 of life: fuck what anyone else thinks, they're not worth the hassle.
@@nunyabusiness896 But if you were a multi millionaire would you employ a chauffeur to drive your Veyron? I reckon many MM's would want to fly this aircraft themselves, the luxury is in its convenience rather than its cabin fixtures.
Uh, not all airports have landing fees. One of the advantages of the Vision Jet is it can get into smaller airports which typically don't have landing fees.
True one reason to consider buying one
You can completely avoid all landing fees by stalling over any Airport and pulling your fancy cool parachute, just declare emergency and squawk 7700 y'know.
ah yes, because FAA fines for are cheaper than landing fees lol@@stevenhedtmann7244
The more an aircraft flies, the more fuel it burns... MIND BLOWN.
Wherever you find yourself that is where you are….MIND BLOWN
Exactly like for cars? MIND BLOWN.
No, I dont think he got that right
What? How?
You are what you eat, so technically everyone and everything is a cannibalist... MIND BLOWN.
I've flown into hundreds of airports where if I purchased fuel, i was not charged any ramp or landing fees.
As long as you buy fuel… if not, ramp fee.
Now if you fly into a real airport with service, you will pay a ramp fee.
We had one of these at our little airport yesterday. So cool!! I would love to fly in one.
When the lottery gets over $500Million I like to watch videos like this so I know where to "invest" my loot when I win. For a jet this one is actually reasonably priced and opens the doors to jet ownership to many owner/operators.
Are you into crypto?
Nice plane but Piaggio P180 is better
Just last week when I sent my Dassault Falcon 900 in for a service I was lent one of these Cirrus Jets as a courtesy loaner for the day. It was very nice :) Honestly you must belive me..
I recently bought a Cirrus Vision SF50 and as a pilot I like it, it makes it easier to moon ATC at low level while I'm drunk
🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🫡👌
I saw one of these flyover going to land at a private airport near my house, very cool planes.
what a a great little beauty. very pleasing to look at from all angles.
very sleek looking. the cockpit looks great too.
I recently purchased an sf50 and could give to real world costs as of today 9/2022 if you so desire
Please do tell.
This is EXCELLENT video show the operating costs of this aircraft and actual flying shots. I have been following the progress of this jet since I first heard of it several years ago. This aircraft is a SPO gem. The CAP system is amazing. Well done!
When my numbers match tonight’s 1.2 Billion Lottery, I’ll buy one for me and everyone that likes this comment!
Such a best elegant vision jet!!👍👍!!
This jet is the perfect 6 passenger jet, if all of you are 4’8” and 90 lbs…
It is a 4+3 aircraft. It is just like many cars, the backseats are for kids only.
Also, typical aviation math, Sure, you can take off with all pax and no fuel! Got to find the balance based on the need.
what, you were expecting to be able to stand up and walk around in it? 🙃
@@eopest He thinks the Ford GT40 is only for little people and toddlers.
Si
The government doesn’t require insurance on airplanes - I’ve never had insurance on any of mine.. But if you borrow money to buy it the bank will.. And many airports will require liability insurance if you park the airplane there.

I know the TBM is a little bit "apples and oranges" here but I thought I'd throw it in just to show aircraft that are similar in size and performance. I do have some "cringe" issues with the fact that a turboprop is faster than than one of these jets and it has a greater range than both of these jets. The early Cessna Citations used to get picked on for their underwhelming performance specs. They were called "Slow-tations" and "Nearjets" as some turboprops like the Piper Cheyenne 400LS could beat up a Citation 500 on the schoolyard. The only "plus" factor for these light jets is maybe the price. The Eclipse, having 2 engines, has a faster cruise, of course. Both jets beat the TBM in terms of cost. If I was in the market and currently in a turboprop or a high-performance piston and I really wanted to get into a jet, I wouldn't bother with these jets. I would go straight for the Embraer Phenom 300E. Otherwise, I would stay in the turboprop and wait until I was able to make that move. The old adage applies: you get what you pay for most of the time. But to each their own.
am in love with the vision jet
Most airports in the USA do not require a land fee.
Nice ones do
Please do this.
Take a jet.
Go small, medium large.
Put it in a city.
Go small, medium large.
Take scenarios.
Old. Medium. New.
Take uses.
100 hours. 200 hours. 300 hours.
Take styles.
Personally flying. Have a pilot fly.
Then do the cost, buying, transactions, upgrades, storage, maintenance, use cost, resale cost.
This will be educational, useful and great.
Thanks
Your information really really good.
I am appreciate also supports your channel.
Best fly...
Beautiful aircraft. I suspect you would need an income of a minimum of $2million a year to afford such an aircraft and a serious love of flying. I would probably take on paying passangers on longer flights to cover costs but you would need added insurance, further flying qualifications and get a license from the DHS.
This aircraft is now $3m and flying it 200 hours a year will cost north of $500k when it’s all said and done. Just insurance is $50k a year for an owner pilot, property tax $30k and then a hanger you’re over $100k a year.
Dude, if you can afford this, the cost isn't gonna bother you.
Yes it is A Jet 🛩
@@eopest Facts! Most of these jets are own by private pilot's, via their LLC businesses. As a result, their "recreational" 🛫 flights✈️ can EASILY be used as a tax write off ✍️ by masking it as a business trip expense.
Therefore, the write ✍️ off, via the actual annual expenses to fly this aircraft is not totally lost, as it would have went to Uncle Sam anyway.
Rip off
Why do you think people will respect your opinion when you spell hangar as hanger? Simpleton.
Me: "hmm, yes this seems like failrly reasonable cost to have a private jet that i could fly myself" - while having 800€ on my bank account
Yes, I love aviation, but when I need to go somewhere, it's a lot cheaper and easier to just buy a ticket on a commercial airline and let them worry about the cost of ownership, fuel expenses, pilot's salary, etc...
Why would I pay someone to fly my jet? 😂
I felt the same way. Lmao.
Same with any vehicles lol.
It would make sense if it was a jet like a citation longitude or a gulfstream g700, but it's extremely unnecessary for something this small.
I agree. If I were to buy this jet it would be to learn how to fly one
The only reason for me personally would be if I'm not certified to fly it, in the SF50's case though I most certainly would be. Not like it's a Boeing BBJ here.
The Cirrus VisionJet was purchased out of the bankruptcy of Eclipse Aviation which pioneered the “million dollar jet” market with the Eclipse 500 but couldn’t deliver on the price it contracted with hundreds of buyers to build its 6 pax twin engine jet. The Eclipse 400 sat in the showroom in the hangar at Albuquerque Airport - a beautiful red mock-up of the fuselage with the V-tail and Williams F-44 engine perched at an angle just like you see it today.
Please state your source for this. The SF50 and the ECJ were being developed at nearly identical times. Cirrus started the SF50 concept around 2003, unveiling it to the public in 2007. The ECJ first flew in 2007 just before Oshkosh that year and the SF50 flew a year later. Eclipse didn't file bankruptcy until 2009, a year after the SF50 first flew, so how could the SF50 be purchased out of the bankruptcy of Eclipse Aviation?
I love all kinds of aviation video
This model is my dream Jet. As I prep to get my pilots license
one time in 2019 or 2018 two of these flew over my house in formation, I have no idea why but best I can assume was someone was having some fun with a friend
I was thinking three would be perfect, but realizing all the incurred costs after your informative video.. I'll make do and just take two.
You got an aviation com-pile-ation channel? Cool man.
The 4.1 ft height is giving me the urge to stand up right now. This is claustrophobic. What if I want to stand up mid-flight?
I am in Florida, I like to get this one as they have an extra safety parachute, but still not sure what my annual cost is, I will be the copilot, I need to get the right person to get my final number.. get more details.
So we can travel to my businesses and have fun. Thanks for some insights.
They had a waiting period? Now I am not sure.
Great information
Good stuff. Cheers.
Beautiful plane, concept reminds the Heinkel He-162 Salamander ("Volksjäger")
Exactly!
MUITO LINDO O AVIÃO CIRRUS TOPE DEMAIS ❤❤
The fact that youtube considers me rich enough to recommend such a video is just!...
I am an aviation insurnace broker and the insurnace cost in this video is misleading. As the comments above suggest 9 out of 10 owners are pilots, it can cost quite a bit more for owner pilots than the video suggest. You need to make sure your broker is in touch with the market and can get the most competitive premium because it can balloon without getting multiple quotes.
If you're an insurance broker why do you spell it insurnace twice?
Unless SG is, in fact, an insurnace broker. We have those down our way.
Most videos that I see on this aircraft has been $3 million dollars and with an operating cost of $660 per hour as this writing.
True specs are average of 65 GPH at 310 going 315 KTAS
Crew? The reason to own a light jet is that they are owner operated.
More than a TBM, or an EA50, each superior in every way with equal or lower fuel burn.
very cute aircraft.
its my dream to own and fly this jet by myself
You will own it !
@@georgiadriven what makes you think that me the poor guy will own this jet. when i have no money to own a phone.
Make sure it comes with a toilet, just in case.
There is no governmental requirement for aircraft insurance in the US.
تخيل ان معاك الطايره هاذي و تطير فيها لوحدك من مدينه الى مدينه. رهيب شعور رهيب جدا
I'm going to buy one as soon as I get a little better job. 🙂
Its a very expensive minivan to own.
Pounds of torque? All composite??
Does it have a two-engine option?
no, but it still can cruise at around 300 knots
Does it have the auto land system?
The new ones do. I think it's been in for a few years but can't remember how long exactly.
When did you last look at acquisition costs?!? A new SF50-G2 is north of $3million.
They also make these jets in Grand Forks North Dakota
The chute is great
What crew?
This is a sweet plane but I’d probably go for a PC-12 instead. You can carry more people. Fly higher, and just a little slower. From what I’ve seen
i want one.
I'm watching this RUclips video and my bank account is giggling from the back....😅
What license is required for this kind of aircraft?
first, you need to get your private pilot's license, which can cost upwards of $12,000 in the end, and then a bunch of certifications. In fact, A pilot "license" is actually a certificate.
This is what silliness looks like
When 21st century X-Box

“Start with a clean sheet”
Great video, Thanks
Thats a sexy plane.
Quanto adoro questo piccolo aereoplano ❤❤❤ È la Smart dei cieli 😂 Però un wc potevano mettercelo. 😊 Oppure con 100€ in più ci si mette il wc chimico del 😉 camper
I'll take one.
A con and possibly a pro is that there isn't any onboard lavatory.
Rich folk peein in a bottle
i’ll take 5 of these please….
All 3 people who own one love it.... so they say
Crew members??? I AM THE CREW!!!
This aircraft has more than a few similarities to the failed Visionaire jet of 30-ish years ago, even the name.
Cant find the engin 😮
it is NOT "pound per foot." Lb/ft describes a spring constant. Force per distance. "Pound foot" or "foot pound" is Lb*Ft. Completely different.
Does it have a toilet ?
انا اريد اتعلم اطير فيها بنفسي
I WILL HAVE A CUSTOM BLACK AND NEON GREEN ONE BY JUNE 3RD 2025
The government doesn’t require insurance on aircraft in the USA.
1900 pounds per foot of torque? Aren't those the wrong units for torque? It should be pound-feet (or whatever force-distance units)
I'm not even sure torque is the right term. I've always heard it referred to as thrust.
Is this a real person’s voice or a computer? “com-PILE-ation”??
ليش الاغنياء ما يشترون اللعبه الحلوه هاذي. اتمنى ان تكون معاي و اطير بها بين المطارات في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي و اليمن.
where are the 3 parachutes
You could sell these to people as a career, that's how convincing your presentation was.
TBM or PC12 make way more sense.
only $1,625.00 per hour plus plus plus... /Im an A&P WE WERE LUCKY TO GET $20.00 per hour at small airports.
It’s a Cirrus not a serious.
2:02 "1900 pound per foot torque." Uh, no. 1900 pounds of thrust. 🙄
What a brilliantly informative video.
My own opinion is if you can afford, almost $2000000 dollars for a private jet then you can afford to run it!!
Anyway, I've just purchased one of these for £20.99 (for Microsoft flight simulator 2020) :p
Liked and subbed :)
And you are wrong. Just owing a big amount of money does not mean you have any income. You can just inherit 2 million and there you are, not being able to buy and actually run it.
Which is why rentals and fractional ownership options exist.
1900 pounds per foot of torque? Its a jet.
I went to the Williams website, and the FJ-33-4A-19 produces 1,568# of thrust.
I stopped watching at this point. This is fundamental data.
I wish RUclips would ban these automated bs videos. Just uses videos and pics from others with a lame voiceover.
The USA doesn't require insurance on private aircraft.
Only complaint is this jet is underpowered slow for a jet but it does look cool. But the Williams engine is weak sauce
Yeah . . .I just don't find them pretty and there are a lot of aircraft that that kind of money will buy. I'd rather buy a PC-12
This video was thoroughly be
This is how I explain it to my 5 year old.
"Pounds/Foot-Torque." How much is that in Euros/Meter-Pressure? Or Babble/Nonsense-Embarrassment?
Not sure about those conversions, but it's at least 1 metric too-stupid-to-understand-it from what I have seen...
i flew this plane in flight simulator, great plane with parachute !
Pound per foot of torque? You just made this engineer throw up in his mouth a little..
How far can this fly?
1300 nautical miles
