I'm glad to hear that someone else is bored with converter design. I really think they could be much better and honestly prefer the realo despite it having no real benefit, a cheap converter in a two hundred dollar pen just feels bad. My goal this year is to use my mother's old Waterman on every final exam I take. I just switched the steel nib with an 18k from a l'etalon, and it's glorious I'm a huge fan of 3 oysters inks. The quality has been superb. Aqua green and mustard are incredible
Binge watched an absurd number of your videos in the last 24. Glad to hear your reviews. A big goal for me is to continue writing every day and see how many journals/empty ink bottles I can add to my bookshelf.
This is one fine looking pen and the color is wonderful. Sailor has always kept their delivery of it's ink perfectly smooth with any ink, I'm sure. Good luck to all. Happy New Year.
Hi David. First of all, I'd like to say how much I appreciate the quality and effort that goes in to producing these videos. As a reletive newcomer into the 'pen world', they provide invaluble insight, as well the excellent entertainment factor. In regards to your competition, it goes without saying that I would love to win this stunning pen. Me 'pen related goal' for 2019, is for me as simple as owning and using a fountain pen for the first time. I hope to pick up a Parker Sonnet with a stunning gold and red finish, that I plan on purchasing early January, and using to complete homework and essays. Once again, many thanks for producing your great content, and for holding such exciting competitions. Tom Happy New Year everyone!
David, I'll use this opportunity to comment on how much I enjoy your brief introductory video that plays prior to all your videos. It's perfect in just about every way (music, graphics, animations, etc.).
My Favourite brand for a while, the feedback on the nib is just enough to feel that it is grabbing and feeling the paper, without being unpleasant or scratchy. Will make someone very happy in the New Year.
Thank you for your time and effort in sharing your experiences and information about the various writing instruments, inks and paper. Wishing you and your family a great 2019.
Thank you for the giveaway Figboot and Goldspot! This one looks amazing! My goal this year is to make more art with my pens. Inktober really taught me how fun it can be!
Amazing pen. I am an old lifeguard and reminds me of the pebbles I used to find in the beach while working. Keep the good work Figboot and have a very nice year.
I think your comment on boring converters inside translucent pens is right on the money. My goal for this year is to add a few carefully selected pens to my small but growing collection. The Sailor 1911 Sea Glass you reviewed is a bit outside my price range, but is a particularly beautiful pen to aspire to.
Sailor nibs are my favorite. The feedback you get from them works well for me. This year I hope to get better about being more organized and writing in my planners more regularly. Thanks for the great review.
David, thank you for this excellent review. I love Sailor pens for two reasons: 1. The excellence of their music and zoom nibs, and 2. For their converters. I understand why some complain about the proprietary converters, but Sailor is the only Japanese company whose pens do not suffer from converter starvation when stored upright in a pocket all day.
Another great review! Love the look of this pen, and Im glad Goldspot sent you one to review. Love the special editions Sailor puts out and this is another gem. I can say my 2019 goal is to add more Sailors to my collection. Already have 3, but they just make such wonderful pens, they are quite hard to resist. Happy New Year! Look forward to seeing more of your videos in the upcoming new year.
Thank you for the great reviews, I enjoy them and when I receive a notice that another one has dropped I savor the wait until I can watch the video. Perhaps an episode in the future on what inks work well with fountain pens that exhibit certain characteristics - dry writer vs gushers. I have noticed in my collection of pens that pairing inks with certain qualities with the unique characteristics of certain nibs highlights my experience.
David. I’ve only been watching your channel for a few weeks, but I enjoy your thorough review and your enthusiasm. The Sailor 911 Sea Glass could be the 4th pen in my collection and my first gold nib.
I started my niece on fountain pens when she was 12 years old, now she is applying for law school so I plan to give her half my fountain pens in 2019. Sailor is one of my favorite brands so this pen would be a keeper. a most enjoyable review. Happy New Years.
For me, I'd set the goal of writing more consistently in my journal. It's a good way to be able to use and enjoy my pens and I think in the long run, I'd find the journaling more enjoyable if I wrote a page or so every day rather than several pages each week or every other week. Thanks for all your work on the channel and the opportunity for the giveaway. Thanks also to Goldspot for making one of these available for the giveaway. That's a pretty generous gift!
The goal is to continue to enjoy using all of my pens, as varied as they may be, but specifically to jot down what ink/pen/nib combo in an ink journal so I can see what inks behaved the best in which combinations. Thank you for the review and the giveaway. Happy New Year!
What a generous giveaway- thank you to Goldspot . My resolution for the year is to be more consistent in my daily journaling which would improve my writing skill as well as de cluttering my thoughts. The journaling with various fountain pens keeps things interesting. I think I may have(hopefully) just fallen over the line in time! Thank you for your amazing comprehensive reviews.
Looking forward to beginning my collection this year. I’ve had a Pilot Vanishing Point for a while, but am now expanding to other brands/types of fountain pens. Thanks for the terrific videos!
Happy New Year, David! Hope you and your family had a nice holiday. For 2019, I’d like to write more letters and do more journaling with my pens. I have so many nice journals that need to be used!
Thank you for your pen reviews!! It is a great help to be able to hear reviews from an independent source! Gorgeous pen color! I'm looking forward to starting a bullet journal with my fountain pens! Thank you, David! Happy New Year!!!
I’ve never been a fan of demonstrators but the that gorgeous color is making me change my mind about it. My main fountain pen goals for 2019 are to get to the L.A. Pen Show and to make sure I use all my pens regularly instead of only a few.
I would say my pen goals for 2019 would be uploading more calligraphy on my instagram since I've been infrequent this year. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity as usual! :)
Thanks for reviewing the 1911, David! Glad to see it so quickly after it being in a 10-pen list recently. My pen goal for the year is to finally get a Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age. That's the Grail pen, and it WILL be mine! Happy New Year!
Happy new year! In 2019 I think I’d like to write in my journal more. Maybe I’ll finally get around to organizing my home office enough for it to be a quiet space for contemplation. Thanks as always for the reviews, and best wishes for personal growth and fulfillment in the coming year!
David, happy new year! Thanks for the review and for the generous giveaway. My goal for 2019 is to actually keep a better journal, i've been lenient with mine last year... Cheers!!
I love how thorough your reviews are. I think my pen goal is to buy fewer and be more intentional about my pens. I have a tendency to have a "one of each" approach but I have pens that aren't getting as much use as I would like.
Love your channel! I’ve been spending the holidays catching up on missed videos and it’s been very relaxing! My NY pen goal is to try to resist inking up all the pens in my collection at once! There’s really no need, except that I think that I’ll need a variety of colours at my disposal when I really don’t! Happy 2019 to you Dave!
Hello David! I discovered your channel recently and greatly appreciate your content as I've started to explore the hobby and the current fountain pain market. As for 2019, I aim to discover and learn about pens from Japanese makers and smaller producers as I've mostly had pens from the big European and US brands in the past. Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year!
thank you David for the review. great fountain pen, i like sailor quite a bit. my goal for this year is to stop craving for new fountain pens and use the ones i already have.
That ink is a great match for the pen color. I agree about converters in transparent bodies, too bad it isn't an eye dropper or vac filler. Happy New Year!
Another terrific review, David. I was excited to see this pen, as I’m I real fan of the Big 3 Japanese pen makers. My 2019 pen goals are to (1) round out my Pilot collection by finally acquiring an 845, and (2) using the pens I have more!
Its a good, detail review. Thanks David. Congratulations in advance to the winner of this contest..great start to 2019. I would love to own this pen. Thnx.
I just got into fountain pens. I am a college student and in 2019 I want to develop ways to use hand writing more often so that I can utilize a fountain pen more often. I am trying to take hand written notes in college and I have begun hand writing thank you notes for Christmas. Another great review and happy holidays to all!!!
This is an excellent goal. I like to use fountain pens and fun ink colors to write birthday cards. For this year's Christmas cards I used Diamine Red Dragon and Akkerman #27 Green.
I only got into this hobby recently, bought some cheap pens, that I enjoy and now my first two more expensives (Pilot VP and Platinum 3776). Want to write even more in the next year and use all my ink samples :-) Happy new year to everyone and thanks David for all your great work.
Thank you for the great review and giveaway! I actually have two pen goals: get back to making my own pens, and start learning to make my own journals. I got materials and classes to do both as Christmas gifts, and so I look forward to diving back into those endeavors. Thanks again!!
that is a nice looking pen. Having grown up on the south shore of long island the color reminds me of the sand weathered glass you would find on the beach.
Thank you David and Goldspot for the giveaway! If I won, I would so take up your suggestion and paint some fish on the side of the coverter with acrylic paint. My pen goal for this year is to use some of my bolder inks. Happy new year!
Happy New Year! I hope 2019 is wonderful for you. Thanks so much for your wonderful reviews and for the giveaway. I love demonstrators, but I absolutely agree that it would be great if companies would start paying attention to what we see when we look through them!
I'd just like to continue to improve my handwriting in the upcoming year. I've found in the past year and a half that I really enjoy writing with fountain pens and it makes me want to write better. Thanks for making such informative reviews!
Really love the color on that pen! Totally agree with your opinion that converters could be fun too! Making it a cheaper way to change the look of the pen rather than buying a different one, one can just buy a different converter with custom designs on them to refresh the look! I think it might go well with the Emerald of Chivor ink!
Thanks, Dave, as always, for a very well done video and your generosity (along with Goldspot's!). I really like this color and size and would love to find a truly fine nib that didn't offend me. I tend to like the bigger mediums and especially the broads. Btw: I very much like your idea of providing decorated or nicer looking converters with demonstrator pens! You get an extra thumbs up for that one ... or you would if I could.
Another fine review, of a lovely pen. In 2019, I am beginning to keep a journal, I also managed to get two people to begin using fountain pens! I plan to continue to be a penabler in 2019!
Great looking pen! The 1911 is one of the pens I want to acquire this coming new year, along with the 3776. Thank you for the opportunity to win this pen.
Despite only owning two pens, albeit nothing expensive, i love them. This one would be no exception. As many others, I'm also relatively new to buying, though i've been interested in the hobby for quite a time now. This pen writes beautifully and would be a great pen to anyones collection. Cheers to you and Goldspot alike for such a great giveaway.
Such a beautiful color, one of my favorites! What I want to accomplish most of all in 2019 is practicing my handwriting to a point where it's legible every time and also pleasing to look at and read. Thank you very much for the giveaway and for a year full of such high quality pen reviews.
Thanks for hosting the giveaway! I have become a huge fan of Sailor 21K nibs this year after picking up a Pro Gear this summer. For the new year i'm looking to use more of my pens more frequently by setting up a regular rotation; I'm planning to do the same with ink (I have so much ink!). I'm also looking to slow down and improve my handwriting. Happy New Year!!
My pen related goal for 2019 is to be more consistent with using my bullet journal - having everything written down helps me to feel more calm and organised. Excellent detailed review of this lovely pen. Thanks to you and Goldspot pens for giveaway opportunity. Cheers!
Thanks for this video and all the great pen related content this year. It's been both informative and indulgent for the sweet tooth your viewers have for fountain pens. My FP goals for 2019 are to engage more with the FP community on social media; and put more focus on expanding my nib choices so I have more variety in my collection - right now I have a lot of EFs. The great thing about fountain pens is that you can swap the nibs. So I'll be getting new nibs for some of my pens, and investing in a few broad nibs and seeking out custom grinds to broaden my horizon.
Happy new year, David! It's always a treat to see what's in hand for the week, here's to many more. My 2019 pen goal is to find more surprises. 2018 was mostly me slavering at models of pens from companies I'm well familiar with - here's looking at you, TWSBI - almost like I had blinders on. I was actually on the verge of snagging a TWSBI Precision as a new EDC until another one of your reviews brought the Diplomat Aero to the forefront of my mind! Getting my hands on one of those instead was a breath of fresh air, and while I'm probably gonna wind up with a Precision in the coming months, I feel a renewed sense of adventure when it comes to trying new brands. Let's see what they've got!
I'm glad to hear that someone else is bored with converter design. I really think they could be much better and honestly prefer the realo despite it having no real benefit, a cheap converter in a two hundred dollar pen just feels bad.

Binge watched an absurd number of your videos in the last 24. Glad to hear your reviews.
A big goal for me is to continue writing every day and see how many journals/empty ink bottles I can add to my bookshelf.
The goal is to purchase less pens. Easier said than done. However, winning a pen is not purchasing a pen. Thanks for the giveaway.
This is one fine looking pen and the color is wonderful. Sailor has always kept their delivery of it's ink perfectly smooth with any ink, I'm sure. Good luck to all. Happy New Year.

Happy New Year everyone!
As an owner of a Parker Sonnet nib with a steel nib in both fine and medium, I can assure you, you are in for a treat.
David, I'll use this opportunity to comment on how much I enjoy your brief introductory video that plays prior to all your videos. It's perfect in just about every way (music, graphics, animations, etc.).

My goal for this year is to take a good care of my pens, especially my new targa. It is fantastic writer!
What a gorgeous color. Love it! Great work as always David.
What a lovely combination of pen and ink with Maritime Themes. The Gods of Stationery would certainly approve.
My Favourite brand for a while, the feedback on the nib is just enough to feel that it is grabbing and feeling the paper, without being unpleasant or scratchy. Will make someone very happy in the New Year.
I just saw Aquaman! If I were him and had this pen I’d get my ink directly from the squids. 😁
This is a pretty compelling pen. I don't always keep track of your videos, but the ones that I do see regularly are always very thorough!
I plan on collecting all the colors of the pilot metropolitan this year and then giving them away to friends and family.
Hi friend!
You should get a move on it because the price goes up I think at the end of 2018 ie today!

What a gorgeous pen! The colour is very striking. Thanks for this.
I have tried fountain pens when i was a kid and i loved how writing with one felt, and now i am back on that wagon!

Some fountain pen goals I have are to write more, finish a bottle of ink, and try my first Sailor and Platinum. Thanks for hosting this!
David, thank you for this excellent review. I love Sailor pens for two reasons: 1. The excellence of their music and zoom nibs, and 2. For their converters. I’ve always been curious about Sailor pens. The sea glass finish looks great as well!
Excellent review and a very beautiful pen! The goal for 2019 is to have many beautiful thoughts and words to write with a beautiful pen!!
Great looking pen, love sailor pens.. I plan to sketch more with fountain pens. Thanks..
I’ve never had a Sailor pen - I’d love for this to be the first! Thanks as always for the review, and to Goldspot for the giveaway! (Hi Tom!)
