I've been considering getting a Sailor Pro Gear Slim. I didn't know that Sailor Pens filled from the breather hole - that's nice to know. Thanks for the review.
That's an outstanding writing instrument, Michael. I only own one Sailor scribe - a brush pen (for calligraphic purposes), & altho' not even close in expenditure to this model, the attention to detail - in construction terms, aesthetics, & unwavering reliability, is superlative. There's nothing I can see to fault the '1911' Large version - a truly wonderful pen !! Many thanks for another detailed review :D
I have both these pens as well, EF and F. I found the pro gear I have has a gentler cap screw mechanism than the cigar one. Not sure why that would be. Cigar one is ordinary and you have to be careful not to screw too tight, cut ends one gives gentle resistance just before it's fully screwed, which is really pleasing.
Hello do you think that realo worths it over the 1911 large c/c considering the price? Do you prefer the design of 1911 large or the pro gear? Thank you
Why on earth would anyone pay 300 Euro for this pen? I got mine from Japan for 120 Euros. Personally I think the capping and uncapping of this pen is to inconvenient for note taking. It is a Montblanc knock-off when it comes to design but it’s better made than the original. Despite the 21k gimmick which makes their nibs hard (it is difficult to make springy 21k alloy) Sailor nibs are above anything else available on the market today. Nice pen
I bought mine in 2014 also from Japan (it cost me 150 EUR), I would argue that Pelikan nibs are slightly better but maybe its just my subjective experience (-:
Polishsoldier these things are always subjective. I often hear people describe Sailor nibs as smooth which I find really odd. If you prefer smooth nib Pelikan may be a better choice. In my experience Pelikan nibs are less consistent in quality compared to Sailor but I agree they are very good.
alex mood There is also one (in my opinion) interesting thing abt Pelikan nibs. I have M200 & M600 both M, and I dont notice any difference in writing quality (they both excellent) but there is huge difference in prize, (yes I know M600 has gold one and nib craftsmanship look better, but in case of writing experience M200 is as good as its more prestige brother). PS still prefer M600 mainly because its bigger.
Polishsoldier well Sailor 1911 large costs twice as much as Standard. Cost of materials is negligible and manufacturing cost is similar so where does this price difference comes from? I guess it depends on company’s pricing policy.
One of my favourite pens along side with M600 & WM Exception. My has gold trim & pen is definitely worth the money, 3776 may not be as prestige as Sailor but nib is really great (-:
Yeah, the M600 and Exception are awesome pens. I have both, too. Sure, the Platinum nibs are stellar. Was no discrediting intended. I just find the Sailor built quality of the body better (which does not mean that the 3776 is a sub-standard construction)
OK. It looks as though we have a lot going in common. That is the next pen I ordered. 3 out of 3 reviews and you seem to preceed me - firstly it was the FC Loom, then MB 146 and not Sailor Large and this time it runs deep. I am now pinching myself to be doubly sure that about this freak coincidence.
@@Scrivelynotes If you already have an opinion about them, I'd like to hear it. :) I already have a C74 and wonder if there's a point in getting a 1911L (I do love the Montblanc-type look).
Yonathan Zarkovian I think there totally is a point for you in getting a 1911L. Especially if you like the design. Also, it’s a completely different pen a writing experience. Pen feels a lot more substantial, nib is larger but harder and less bouncy, with that Sailor characteristic pencil’ish feedback. Section is also girthier. I personally sold my Custom Heritage 92 and 74 and kept my Sailors. I prefer them. But it certainly very much comes down to personal preference. Some are die hard Pilot fans. Some say Sailor is the best Japan has to offer. Others like both for their individual qualities.
Your passion and pen knowledge is very engaging. Not so easy to check out all these wonderful pens in person, so many thanks indeed :)
Thanks so much for the nice comment. Very glad it's helpful :)
You always upload exactly what pen I'm looking for, at the exact right time!
Glad to hear that :-) . Thanks

you're comparisons are a treasure for non-experts like me
Thank you. very happy it is useful!

Definitely still one of my favorite fountain pens.
I agree on the platinums. I have a platinum 3776 and the gold finish on the cap started wearing off in like a month. Nice review.
That has not happened on mine. But the resin body for instance just feels a lot more solid on the Sailors, imho

Interestingly, I have found the same differences in the caps that you describe as well. I wonder how these come.

I personally prefer the flat top design of the ProGear.
Nice review thx :D I have looked at the Sailor 1911 and Realo.
Thank you very much! Do you own one of these pens yourself?
No. I’ve done a lot of looking around, however, not bought anything yet 🙂
@@Richard_Barnes Got it :-)
Very nice review. Thanks.
Thank you very much

Yeah, Japanse pens are considerably less expensive in Japan. Pen pricing. A long discussion :-).

Excellent as usual! 🇸🇪
Thank you Lennart!
medium nib sailor looks like extrafine pelikan when writing
Indeed!
I have one but with gold furniture and as with sailor an excellent writer ...very nicely sized large enough
I like the size a lot as well. Fits my hand just perfect

BTW you are left-handed just like me (((-:
I only wish the grip diameter on the 1911 Large were a bit smaller. Otherwise, the pen is great, and the nib is sensational.
There is the 1911 Standards, which has a thinner grip section

Ha! Let's see whether this will be a trend going on. Not very unlikely, as I have produced quite a few reviews over the past years :) .
This vs Custom 74?
good idea!

I'm getting this pen soon
yay!!
I really love your reviews becausecits always on a pen that im interested in(speciale the sailor oens😉)
Thank you! Glad to hear that!
Definitely need one of these! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
You do :-)
Honestly not much difference between a Jinhao in size or writing ability.
There is also not much difference between a Mazda MX5 and a Porsche 911 Turbo in size and the ability to get you from A to B.
