      Hii just got my Audible account last Christmas and have finished 3 or so books so far. However, it's not letting me return the last book I read. I wasn't aware that each book has a credit (I'm a uni student so I figured it was like a library card) Is there anyway to remedy this? I intend to buy more credits later on but will I be encountering this problem over and over again? How many times can I return a book per credit? How will I know what titles can or cannot be returned? Send help pls 😭

    This is a great video for someone who didn't understand the idea behind audible at all before, so thank you. I do have to say, I'm not in the US, so I use Storytel for my audiobooks. Sotrytel works like netflix does, which is a great advantage. You pay around $10 and get access to their entire library, so paying $15 for only 1 credit seems really expensive to me. What you're saying makes sense that paying $15 for a $50 audiobook looks like an attractive deal, but honestly in such a case I'd just consider purchasing the physical copy, because if I don't like it I'll just re-sell it and get some of the invested money back. The only disadvantage I can think of of not having an Audible subscription is not having access to the Originals. So honestly, I don't think it's worth it when considering the competition. I know for example in the US, if you have a library card you can download Libby and get a fair share of audiobooks for free. Scribd & Hoopla are also good alternatives, so Audible is really not the only option and I think probably not the best value for the money paid when comparing. What do you think?

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  Год назад +2

      Storytel may be a better option for saving money due to unlimited listening based on a monthly subscription but it’s unavailable in America where I (and a vast majority of my viewers) live.
      Some things people find themselves missing out on without Audible are full ownership of the books you get even when you stop paying for your membership, and what Audible seems to have over every single audiobook listening platform regardless of price is selection. Every source I looked at cited their overall collection being much bigger than Storytel’s - not to mention the fact that Audible is available in more languages, many feel they have a more intuitive interface/setup, and their customer service is top-notch. Some people care more about these than others which I think is a good thing because it allows for the success of Audible’s competitors in other markets/niches!
      I can’t recommend or even use Storytel because of where I live, but if I could, I’d still use Audible because I review books on this channel and most of them are contemporary titles which hit Audible’s unmatched, gargantuan selection as soon as they’re published. I also personally can’t stand reading so it wouldn’t make sense for me to buy then resell any books I’m not a fan of.
      So the fact that I’ve made over 20 videos now about Audible and this is the first time I’ve heard of Storytel tells me all I need to know regarding why. Audible is nothing close to the only option and it’s not the best for everyone but I think for many it’ll come down to personal preference and consumer needs. Thanks for your input and insight!

    I live in Zambia in Africa. My market place in audible is set to the USA. Recently every time I try to buy a book it gives me the error that the title is not available based on geographic restrictions. I have tried to change the market place, I have tried to change my VPN to the USA. But nothing seems to help. I keep getting the same error. I never used to have this issue. Any advice

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Duncan! I understand your concern. If you didn’t have this issue in the past, my guess is that Audible may have updated their geographical restrictions to where if you do not live in the same marketplace you have Audible set to, you may not be able to listen to the book.
      Of course, if you’re able to buy it but not download it, this sounds like something that NEEDS to be sorted out on their end. Otherwise they’ll have unsatisfied customers who are under the impression that they’re still able to get a book only available in a different country, but not listen to it? Come on, now. That’s just preposterous.
      I only cover the usage of Audible - no third-party apps, programs, or other software involved. This video has more comments than any other on my channel - not one of them has mentioned a VPN, but if this is all still a concern (which again I can definitely understand), I’d recommend calling their helpline. It may be a different number in Zambia.

    • @DuncanScott-u7v
      @DuncanScott-u7v 10 месяцев назад

      Thanks. It won’t let me download the books, just says processing. Zambia does not exist as an option for a market place, and there is not another African country as an option. I’ve tried setting market place to UK as well and same issue

    Another Downside.
    Audible is a book mill. They have a need to fill the shelves. The problem is you get the good bad and ugly and rarely a diamond
    In the past a book title could make millions but it would have been vetted multiple time to make sure it would be worth printing. So when i spent $5 for a paperback I knew it should be a good read if not a transportation method to new places.

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  10 месяцев назад +1

      I get what you’re saying but this is sadly just the way of the world right now, and quite frankly, it’s probably going to get worse. Gargantuan platforms like Audible, Spotify, Apple Music, Netflix, etc. they want to make it easier for people to put their content with minimal vetting and editing involved because more content = more curation, more curation = more time spent on platform, and more time spent on platform = more time spent either watching ads or signing up for subscriptions/upsells, which obviously = more money in their pockets.
      As Kevin Kelly said in his genius work The Inevitable, nouns are turning into verbs. The creation of content is becoming so mundane, easy, and convenient that it’s almost as if the content is becoming the act of its own creation.
      If this whole situation is an issue to you (like it VERY MUCH is to me), personally I have the best luck on Audible checking out reviews, looking into descriptions, and researching the authors and their credibilities. I primarily review nonfiction books on this channel and it’s pretty rare I run into anything not worth a listen.

    I'm pissed cus I was listening to a book on Spotify and found out that there's a time limit to audiobooks so I got an audible subscription to resume the series but it's stupid cus you pay the membership but you still have to buy the books?! That's insane!

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  6 месяцев назад

      I understand what you’re saying - I’ve been told this too many times to count. The thing is, if you do your research, you may find that platforms less expensive than Audible either have WAY smaller selections, aren’t available in America (and many other countries), or both. That being said, the membership actually includes books.
      Most people don’t listen to more than one audiobook a month so their most popular membership option gives you one credit per month that you can use on any audiobook that you get to keep forever even if you cancel your membership and if you want to buy more books during that month, you can always buy extra credits at a discounted rate. Even if you don’t, books are discounted (sometimes HEAVILY, like 70-80% or more).
      The amount of benefits is staggering but as a user of 8yrs, I’ll admit that the way Audible’s business model works certainly benefits the more avid listeners more than anyone else. In other words, the more books you listen to, the more an Audible membership would benefit you.
      Again, I get that it sounds insane, but audiobooks haven’t been decentralized like music, movies, and shows, so if you’re looking for a monthly all-you-can-listen platform with the same selection Audible does, let me know!

      I’m not sure I understand the question. Why would someone want to spend more on the audiobook than on the Kindle or the hard copy on Amazon?
      I believe the prices tend to vary per book by platform but not by all that much. Audible members can often get really nice deals on audiobooks though. I haven’t spend more than $10 on an audiobook in years.

    "Audible is NOT ALL YOU CAN LISTEN for Audiobooks."
    Thanks for the video, but I think most of the confusion arises from simple fact that it is NOT netflix of audiobooks.
    I subscribed thinking it's just that, and I am regretting. I came on board to listen to the Witcher. Got 1st book for free, and when going to 2nd book there wasn't any PLAY button. Then I realized it's not all you can eat kinda subscription. It sucks that in all the amazon's documentation and even on 3rd party blogs and forums, nobody straight up mentions, this, and everybody just keeps beating around the bushes.

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  11 месяцев назад +1

      Someone NEEDS to say it. I’m making a 2024 equivalent video soon but that would save a lot of people a lot of stress. As an avid long-time user, the fact that it’s not well-known and well-disclosed is my biggest pet peeve on the whole topic.
      According to my research, unfortunately the all-you-can-eat of audiobooks in America is nothing beyond the library because Audiobooks aren’t decentralized like music, movies, and TV shows, but even the library has nothing close to the selection Audible does.
      If I were you (in case you haven’t) I’d buy the 2nd book with the 2nd monthly credit and cancel the subscription. That way you don’t have to pay monthly at all, you can keep the Witcher, and listen to it whenever you want.
      Thanks again for watching! I’ll be making more videos about Audible in the future. These get a heck of a lot more views than my book reviews!

    • @Lilli_Jewel
      @Lilli_Jewel 10 месяцев назад +1

      @SamuelEarth ~ So how many books can you listen to during the month if it's not an "all you can eat" library?

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  10 месяцев назад +1

      Good question. That’s ultimately up to you because it depends on your membership. Most people go with one credit (AKA one book) per month, but if you use up that credit and want to listen to more books, you can always buy 3 more at a time at a discounted rate. However, when you have that subscription, many books are actually included for listening at no extra cost - it should say “listen” or “play” or “included” near the book listing but you can find those where it says “Audible Plus”.
      There are other membership options. They have one where you can get two credits per month at a lower price per credit, or 12 per year, or 24 per year. Each one costs less per book than the last. I have the one for 24 credits and I haven’t spent more than $10 on an audiobook in YEARS. Sounds like a good deal to me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  Год назад +1

      I get this type of comment a lot and I understand it completely. The thing is, basically no audiobook streaming company does what you’re describing. People are used to seeing that in Netflix and Spotify, so it’s easy to imagine that audiobooks are the same, where you pay once a month and can listen to anything you want any time.
      If someone’s not buying Audible because it doesn’t have that, it’s hard for me to imagine them buying anything else. Believe it or not, with their bulk membership options, credit system, 30% off deals, daily deals, and Audible Plus catalog for free 24/7, Audible is actually the closest thing to this. If you can find another one, please please please let me know!
      For more info on what I’m saying, I made another video about how Audible works and addressed this a little further because again I get the frustration behind it and as a diehard 7yr Audible user, I personally wish there was an easy way for them to disclose it. @@SamuelEarth I guess my point is, IF Netflix/Disney+/Spotify/basically every other subscription service has this (or something much closer to this, at least, like PlayStation Plus/Xbox Game Pass), why is Audible NOT doing it like that? And if they want to make extra money or something, they could just do tiers like: Basic subscriptions gets you ONLY audiobooks, but not podcasts, or anything else. Since I assume MOST people who subscribe to Audible are only doing it for the audiobooks, with the other stuff as cool bonus features, this would make more sense and piss less people off. (I say to you, as if you work for Audible and could do anything about it. LMAO).
      EDIT: Also, I'm lucky and have a great library system, so I don't really need Audible for audiobooks. The only reason I might get it is for Audible exclusives, but in those cases, I just read the e-book version instead... So... Audible really has nothing going for it for me if it's going to lock certain audiobooks behind even more money, anyway, if I can just listen to most audiobooks for free re my library.

      I also talk about it more in this video at 0:30. ruclips.net/video/GdPVJSMyOYs/видео.html
      Spotify isn’t the same with audiobooks as they are with music, just to give an example. It’s actually generally an even more expensive option where there are no membership/tiers and you have to pay individually for every audiobook.
      There are books I don’t pay for because they’re already included in my membership. Because of the membership I have, it’s been years since the last time I spent more than $10 on an audiobook.
      Generally cheaper options like Scribd, Librivox, and Storytel have much less of a selection, they’re known to have less of an intuitive interface with a harder-to-use setup, and they’re also known to be less responsive and helpful customer service. Not to mention some of them aren’t even available in America.

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  11 месяцев назад

      It would depend on if you’re an Amazon Prime member. Prime members get two free credits with the 30-day trial. Otherwise you get one.
      After the trial, they do charge you for one month (which if you’re in the US should be $14.95 plus tax) and you get another credit. After that, you’re welcome to change your membership to 2 credits per month, which is $22.95 plus tax). After that, you should land on maybe 4-5 credits and you can just cancel your membership before they charge you more. If you do this, YOU GET TO KEEP THE BOOKS YOU BOUGHT. They stay in your library forever.
      If you just buy the books one at a time, they can be much more expensive. Most Audible books can be $20+ which is why I’m so obsessed with credits on this channel. The more you get at once, the more you save, but if you’re only looking for 4-5 books, you may have to go out of your way to get them all for cheap. On the bright side it costs much less and you get to keep them forever! I hope this helps. I have PLENTY of other videos about Audible - if you need anything else I can just directly link one.

    Hello I’m new to audible and paying 16.34 monthly for 1 credit.
    The book I want to listen to is $13.20 on sale and so I use one credit which is ridiculous because I extra spent three dollars. I don’t really understand if my book is less than the amount I pay monthly I only get one credit for one book. How do I navigate this , I’m feeling ripped off and the series I want to listen to has 13 books in it. Do I have to wait and only listen to one book a month? That’s not how I want to do it but I don’t understand how to navigate it especially on my phone. I appreciate any help you can offer.

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  6 месяцев назад

      Yes - some books cost less than credits. I know it sounds ridiculous because it allows you the option to pay EXTRA for a book when you don’t need to. This is one of the ways to spend less money on Audible - buying a book instead of using a credit on it when it costs less than a credit. The only downside is, the membership is what lowers the price of these books to be $13.20/piece, and I’m willing to bet that without the membership this book would probably cost more than a credit (when you have a membership, all books are 30% off or more).
      So you’ll need to continue paying for the membership to get this deal - the benefit is, by the time you’re done listening to all these books, you’ll have multiple credits to use on whatever books you want. It’s worth noting that credits do expire after a year.
      I understand that Audible has this membership and its benefits to offer people more opportunities to spend less on books, but as a user of almost 9yrs myself, I do wish they’d have a disclaimer stating when a book costs less than a credit and that you could always buy that book then save the credit for one more expensive.
      By the way, you mentioned using your phone. Sometimes when I’m on my phone having trouble buying a book on the app, it works on the Audible site. I have an iPhone but given the simplicity of the app, that shouldn’t make much of a difference.
      NOTE: THIS IS PRESUMING THAT ALL THE BOOKS IN THE SERIES COST LESS THAN A CREDIT.

      Thank you I appreciate that. I have an iPhone as well they don’t have any problems using up my credit. I just get upset that I’m wasting money with this stupid website that annoys the hell out of me. I want to try something different, but I don’t even know what to look for.

      1. If you cancel your subscription, you DO keep your library and the books you’ve paid for. You do NOT lose them.
      2. If you’re on an airplane in airplane mode, I know that you can listen to Audible but I’m pretty sure it’s only the books in your library that have been downloaded. What I’d suggest just to be safe is make sure that whatever books you plan to listen to on the plane, you download those before having to turn airplane mode on on your phone if that makes sense.
      Thanks again! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

    Scribd (Audible’s direct competitor) is my preferred service. It doesn’t have all of the titles audible has, but it’s a monthly rate which grants access to everything: audiobooks, e-books, podcasts, and documents uploaded by users (which can range from sheet music, dissertations, essays, poems, and full books).
    I’m a music teacher, so the presence of sheet music, method books, and instrument transcriptions is what attracted me to the app. But the audiobooks have become one of my favorite aspects of the subscription, and if more people gave their money to support that feature, it would become more prevalent.
    That being said, I am currently on an Audible trial, because there were two audiobooks that are only on Audible that I just HAD to have, so we’ll see how that goes.

      It sounds like Scribd is definitely the better choice for you being a music teacher. Exactly what I needed to hear.
    When I hear "membership" I expect to pay a upfront fee and have full access for a limited time.
    But hearing that this is NOT how this works, is good.
    So no need to subscribe if Im only interested in a few books.
    Really seems like a dumb deal on Audibles part.
    I would stick around if I had access like a real membership.
    But now I am just going to buy the 4 books I want & not likely to return or explore audibles titles afterwoods. Because I got what I want.
    & Im Joe Smoe. Someone who doesnt read or listen to long form stuff.
    & Audible is missing out on folks like me.
    Because Id pay to have unrestricted full access to everything.
    but instead
    Im just paying for a few things and never returning.

    • @SamuelEarth

      More people NEED to understand this. Audible is focused on people who are going to return. People who only need a few books really don’t need to. If they decide to, that option is literally always there, but what matters is that people know about it and the fact that it’s an option.
      No reputable audiobook platform has “full access”. Audible’s version of this is probably the most affordable and closest to it, but until audiobooks are decentralized to the point where they’re fully accessible like music or movies on a monthly basis, I’m expecting Audible to eventually make this happen in a profitable enough way to meet the needs of the consumers they lose who demand it.

      Thanks for watching! I’m happy to help. If you stop your subscription, you can still access the library. There’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to - especially if your device and the Audible app are up to date. I suggest consulting their helpline at 1-888-283-5051.

      @bjwhite1333 from what I have read in the Ts &Cs, you still have access to that audio book if you cancel your subscription.
      But obviously you still need a log on and go through their platform to play it.
      So it's yours to keep as long as you have access to audible.

      As long as you have access to Audible, you get to keep it and listen to it whenever.

      Thanks for watching, Tashima! Unfortunately there isn’t. That would be an awesome feature - I’ve been waiting for them to put it out for a while. Hopefully they will in the near future!

    Audible is so archaic. Old school app. Nothing fancy. U cannot set it up to skip certain chapters. U cannot put a chapter on repeat (i like to sleep to the meditations in the app) spotify allows a repeat function.
    Ehhhhh 2.5 stars outta 5.

    Hi, I have a question...if I want to gift an Audible book to someone in a different country. How does that work? Must they have an Audible membership account to cash in their book? It is not practical to ship them the physical hard cover but I also don't want to impose them a new expense of a monthly membership fee if that is the case. What do you suggest?

      Got a pain in my head, twice, trying to get Audible Support to explain their membership options to me. If it’s that confusing, methinks it’s intended to be.

    After I finish a book (I listen at night to put me to sleep) there are two very loud beeps that wake me up. How do I get rid of those awful beeps? Thank you in advance!

    If you get the $7.99 a month subscription can you also download to listen offline?

    • @SamuelEarth

      Yes to my knowledge you can still listen even in airplane mode as long as you have audiobooks downloaded.

    Because i have not had a subscription for 4 years, Audible can't reset my phone number and i have now lost access to my account and all the content that i paid a lot of money for. They know i have paid them, and wont give my credits to buy the books again.

    Can I have the same APP for Audible on my iPhone and my lap top? I find that I have a lot of questions, being a senior citizen and very technologically challenged. to keep a book do I need to download it. If I download it can I listen to off line? I don't want to pay for more data on my phone and have a lot of it on my lap top?

    • @SamuelEarth
      @SamuelEarth  Год назад

      No problem! On the phone you need the Audible app to listen. On your laptop you don’t - you can just listen from the Audible site.
      To keep a book you don’t need to download it but you do need to buy it. If you download the book on your phone, yes you can listen to it offline because it’s on your phone so you don’t need internet to access it.
      Depending on what iPhone you have, your phone or Audible should actually have an automatic space saving feature where if you have too many audiobooks downloaded and you’re not listening to every single one, it’ll un-download them. That way, you’re saving space on your phone. This does NOT delete the books and you do not lose them. You still keep them - you just can’t continue to listen to them again unless you’re able to download them again. Otherwise they DO stay in your library and you do keep them.
      I hope this helps!
